Natural Hairstyles | Damage Your Natural Hair Vs Natural Hairstyles That Benefit Your Hair! S.1 Ep.4

Hi Diamonds, in this video i am doing a series on natural hair, and in this video, i am talk about hairstyles that can possibly damage your hair vs the natural hairstyles that can benefit your natural hair!

Hey girl, hey hi, guy hi, how you all doing on today, cuz it's garina, it's your girlina! It'S your girl, rina and today i am so excited to be on series. One episode for y'all, yes, is what we're gon na be talking about natural hair. Everything there is to know, but we're gon na be talking about hairstyles in particular on today. So let's get this thing started and if you want to see what that's all about then just follow me. Okay, so, first of all, what we're going to be talking about today is the hairstyles that are great for your hair, the uh protective styles, of course, and the ones that are not so good, okay and the ones that you probably should avoid. Okay, so we're gon na be doing five natural hairstyles that will benefit your hair, get your hair growing and all of that jazz, and they are not tight on your scalp and then we will be going over the five hairstyles. That, probably you should not even put in your hair that you should avoid okay, so that is what we are doing on today and i'm so so excited to be all up in this camera. In your face again doing this series: listen! If you are new here - and you don't know too much about not natural hair, you have found the right, video and the right series, because i am doing a whole series for you, so you can learn some things about your natural hair. So, let's get this thing started number one best hairstyles for natural hair is twist just look how absolutely plump and moisturized these twists look. They look absolutely healthy and they just look naturally fun, and i say that because twists are absolutely amazing when it comes to moisture when it comes to hair growth. Listen when you twist your hair up and you put those products in it. It really holds in the moisture throughout the whole week. You do not have to go and refresh your twists now um. Some people do have to do that. If your hair is very thick and you and you don't know how to moisturize it, then yes, you will have to moisturize it throughout the week. But the way i do mine i do not have to do that and my strands are pretty um fine. You know so i don't have real real thick hair, so look at my hair y'all and i do have it down because i am getting ready to wash it so please, if you have not hit that subscribe button, go ahead and hit it right now, like you Mean it because you will not be disappointed, i promise you won't um. You do not want to miss the watch day. Videos, okay, um, so hit that subscribe. Button notification bell right next to it, so you will not miss another video from your arena. So let's get this thing started, i'm so so excited on today y'all to be doing this series again. So first um we're gon na there's the twist or you can also do the regular twist or the mini twist. It does not matter, but the cons of this thing there's the pros now and there is some cons, because i have been doing twists so long in my hair that listen, i've learned some things as well um. If you're, not careful, then you can break your hair, but this is a great hairstyle to um grow your hair, but you just have to be very careful as well, because when you take them down, sometimes you can get knots and tangles and all of that jazz And so this is one reason why i said when i wash my hair, i'm not going to uh, let it air dry, i'm going to blow dry it and then put the twist in because it makes it so much easier and it cuts down on those knots And tangles as well y'all and it's easier to maintain throughout the week so yeah so um, i'm trying that i'm going to go get me a heat protectant because i don't have that. But when i do uh blow dry, my hair, i uh, use all of those products that i put in my hair. I just put it in there before i blow dry, so it can coat my hair really well. So i would not worry about heat damage, but i'm going to go ahead and put the icing on the cake and go get me some heat protectant, because you need that: okay, um but yeah. That'S what i want to do um and it doesn't cause a lot of uh uh tension on your hair as well. That'S another uh pro, that's so good about uh the twist is that it don't leave your hair weighed down, pulled all of that jazz. You don't have to worry about that, and some people grow their hair out by doing the real loose twist. I don't know how that works. I can't do that. I'Ve never tried that before y'all and i frankly don't think that that would look right on me. So i just don't: try it i'm not unless i'm gon na wear a wig or something i might try it then, but i've never tried that. So i don't know how that works. So, don't ask me: okay, now, i'm just playing but anywho uh but yeah. So it just keeps all of that tension off of your hair. Even your sides - listen um. I was like. Let me uh do the twist, because i noticed when, if i wear my hair in a bun a long time, y'all excuse my nose. I would start to lose my edges and it's like when i started doing the twist my edges, i was not losing my edges y'all. That is one of the things that i just do not want to lose, because when you lose your edges, you might as well lose your hair, because you cannot pull your hair back. You have to just wear a wig or something like that, and it's like no. Like or you you can there's techniques you can do, and i see this one lady when she was losing her edges um. She did a technique where it looked like she had edges and i'm like the girl is bad because less said no, i never would have thought probably of something like that to do to hide those edges that are bald so um but yeah. So just the twist is number one on my list. Okay, number two twist outs can be great as well, but you have to really maintain a twist out okay, so that means you would have to either twist it all every day at night, i'm not every day, but every night before you go to bed wrap it Up all of that um moisturize re-moisturize, it depends on how dry your hair is. When i take my hair down from twist um, it can become dry or feel dry um, and i would have to re-moisturize and all of that stuff. So i like to just keep my hair in the twist. That is the best for me now y'all. I always tell y'all i've been telling y'all in this series that try, whatever works for your hair, only okay, don't do everything that you see somebody else doing, because it might not very well work for your hair, okay, so um, but i do think that you can Maintain your hair with your hair being in a twist out um, because if you you know - and you can, you can put it in like a a pineapple hairstyle and take it down the morning and shake it out um and then you can put it in four Ponytails, because if i wear a twist out or anything like that, um i will put it like in, like probably four ponytails or i would retwist it like, and some big thick twist um and that would, and sometimes i would even braid it y'all like that, and It would just really bring the curls right back out once you plant it, not braided braids, so you scalp, but plaid it um. So that would be a great uh hairstyle as well, because it's not pulling it's not tugging, it's not doing anything um on your hair. It'S not messing with your strands, but you still have to be careful of those uh knots, single knots and uh to your strands. All of that stuff so make sure that you are being very, very careful when it comes to your twist and twist out and mini twist and even flat, twist y'all, so we're going to get on the flat twist as well. Let'S see where we are going - and i am looking at my books, so we're going to start on the flat twist flat twist can also be great for your hair. Excuse me, okay, so we're going to go back with these flat twists flat twist. Um could be great for your hair as well, but you just don't want to overdo it with flat twists. You want to make sure that you are moisturizing your hair, and i do think that if you have a blowout, it would be best to do it because it makes it so much easier on your hair, the wear and tear um. You won't have to worry about. So many single knots, uh uh, just not in general um all of that uh, but the only thing y'all is with many toys you don't i mean flat twist. You don't want to keep doing them over and over and over just like with the twist you can do those over and over. You know i'm saying you just leave it up for a week and all that, but with me a flat twist, you don't want to keep putting them in, because you are putting a lot of tension on your hair, a lot of strain on your hair and you Just really don't want to do this, so what i do is one week. I would do the the mini twist or the twist and then i would leave that up for a whole week, and sometimes i would give my hair a break and then i would go into the flat twist to do style for you guys because y'all know. I love do those flat uh hairstyles, for you guys um. So that's what i would do because, like i said, you don't want to be pulling your hair out, especially, i mean it's just like when you're braiding, your hair, you're doing the cornrows you're, putting a lot of tension, strain and all that on your hair. So you don't want to do that and that can cause breakage. So you don't want breakage in your hair, so i've learned to just maneuver between the two um and sometimes like. Like i said, i give my hair a break. I give at least a week break, and that is not easy to do because i like to play in my hair, like i always tell y'all y'all see it down right now, y'all see it down honey. I can't keep my hands out of my head, so when i get through with this video, i probably will go wash it put it right back up in the twist, and there was a time when i stopped wearing the twist - and i was like my hair - was Just not doing what it usually do, so i said let me get back to my twist because obviously i'm doing something wrong. Okay, um and my hair was not happy with that. Okay, so listen go back to where you know. If your hair is not thriving and it's not doing what you know, it can do and what it used to do, do that go back to the beginning, honey, so number four buns are a great idea, a good idea. Um i've heard that buns have been known to grow the natural hair out, but you must not put the buns so tight in your hair. Don'T put those buns so tight in your hair that it is pulling your brains and you're like. I can't think you can't think with this thing, so tight, listen when you put buns in your hair, it can cause you to have headaches. I'Ve known that. I know that because i've tried these buns and i've put them so tight one time that my hair was just hurting and when i loosen it up or i take the bun out, i feel so much better. My head is not hurting anymore, so that lets me know right there that i had that bun too tight. So when i'm doing a bun and if i add extra hair, i would take that and pull it up. Some and you know so - it won't be so tight on my hair, so make sure that you are not pulling your brains out when you do these buns okay um, because it also can cause you to get breakage around the edges of your head. If you are wearing buns every day, you really don't want to do that. I don't recommend that, because you can lose hair your edges on that it really depends on how tight it is now, if it's not tight, i'm pretty sure you probably won't lose your hair because, like i said some people say that they have grown their hair out By the buns so just wearing the buns out, and they take it out and it's longer, they say um so just make sure that you're not putting a lot of tension on your edges. Okay, because you want your your edges or you won't be able to bun your hair. Okay, so number five sorry number five says letting number five letting your natural hair be free. So let listen! This hairstyle is absolutely amazing. Um if you know how to maintain it. If you know how to manage it, if you can keep those knots and tangles out of your hair, i would not do that personally because, like i said, i always plan my hair, so i can't let it be free. I can't let it be down uh in an afro and let it do what it want to do because baby, it's not going to do what it won't do. Well, it is, but it's not going to do what i wanted to do and i don't want tangles and knots and all that and it just tangle up on each other. I don't want that. So my hair is not like that. It'S tightly coiled, it's all of that for type hair, and it's not going to work for me um, but just letting it hang down and uh grow some of uh, some hair, gurus or whatever you wan na call them. They say that they can do that. They don't have to do protective styling for their hair, that they can just let it be down, and they don't have no issues with it and it just grows. Some people can do that. But some of us cannot do that. Okay - and we have to have our protective styles, to protect our hair, to keep our hair flourishing growing being healthy. All of that stuff, especially the ends the ends have to be tucked away because you can damage your ends, lose your ends and all of that, if you're, just laying on your hair, make sure that you are wrapping your hair up at night. That is the number one thing as well, because if you don't, you are rubbing your hair against a cotton pillow, you are rubbing your strands right off, okay right off on that uh pillow, and you don't want that. No, you don't want that um and i've had that happen to me, because i was being lazy and that was years ago, probably in my teenage years i was being lazy and i was noticing, like my hair, is leaving like what happened. It'S because i wasn't taking care of it. I wasn't wrapping it at night. The way i was supposed to my mom taught me this and i wasn't doing it, but i've learned my lesson and i've been doing it ever since. Okay or i'll have a satin pillowcase to sleep on. If i don't want to wrap it that night, but majority of the time i wrap my hair up at night, okay um. So these are the styles and that was number five. Okay, uh letting your hair be down and all of that free, um, and so now i want to go to these styles. You want to avoid so style number one box braids, because these styles can pull or tug at your hair, causing tension on your hair. Follicle. Listen if you have something so tight excuse my phone. It is pulling your hair from the scalp, the follicle, and all of that it's because i'm going to give y'all an example. I wish i had the pictures of where my daughter she had some long braids in her hair, and i mean it was so long, y'all y'all doing them long, braids, now y'all doing long, braids. Now, okay, that's pulling your hair and it pulled her hair so tight that this part just was coming off with the braid okay and it's gone right there. Okay and then this side was doing the same thing and i told her her best bet was to take those on out of her hair now before she get any more damage to her hair. Now her hair, the bald spots, are growing back, but you need to be very, very careful, especially if you are you doing those long braids, because the long braids are so long that they're weighing your hair down and they're pulling it from the scalp okay. And it's messing up the follicle as well um and i'm not expert y'all, i'm not, but i'm telling you what i know. I tell you what i uh experience and what my daughter experienced. I don't wear braids anymore in my hair at all. That is a no-no and i feel like i'm just a little bit too old for that okay um - i am in my 40s of course um, and i just really don't think that my hair will be strong enough to hold any braids anymore. But that's my own opinion, okay, so, okay, so please leave those styles out of your hair. Now, if you know how to maintain those styles um and that's best for what you like to do, that is growing, your hair is doing the best for you then go ahead and continue. That'S on you um, but in my opinion i would not do it y'all. I just won't: do it um number two, any hairstyles with braids or twists with rubber bands, could cause tension and should be avoided. Listen. I can tell y'all about the rubber bands. Rubber bands are not good for your hair and listen. It can grow your hair. They can, because i've been a witness to that as well, but taking the rubber bands out, if you don't cut them out of your hair, you can truly damage your hair by pulling your hair out with the rubber band. Okay - and i remember my daughter when she was one years old - i would put bullets in her hair rubber bands and i we would get ready to leave she'd, be in the back seat and we're leaving right and i'm like she looks so pretty. And i'm talking about like she looks so pretty and i just go look at her and i'm like. Oh my gosh and i just get mad y'all cause. She be. There pulled every single bow, every single rubber band everything out of her head and i'm like what is going on. Does she not like stuff in her head like we are friends to go somewhere, she's? Looking so pretty all of this, and she don't have a bow and a head y'all like no. No, i i don't want this in my head. I can tell you to put this in my head. Uh, it's got to go and i will be so mad like i got to redo her hair all over again. Well, i should have just let her hair be free because she's a baby. She don't need all of that stuff in her hair. You can just put a bow around here and she's happy with that. Like she don't know she just a baby, so she was one years old like i could have just dolled it up with a um. You know with a headband, like you know, a baby, headband or something you know with the big bow, but no, i was wanting to put those ponytails and that was just harsh on her head and hopefully i didn't have it too tight, which i don't think i Did um but yeah i'm telling you it never failed. Every time i was trying to go somewhere and her hair, be so pretty i'm so excited, and then i looked back there and she didn't pull everything out of here like oh, my goodness, so think about that. When it comes to your babies, just let their hair be free, let it grow, and i understand beyonce did that, and people was trying to criticize somebody like. Why do you want to do the babysitter? She was just letting it grow. Bro. Look at it now. Look how her hair is her daughter's hair has bloomed has went on down to the ground because y'all, i don't know if it's way down there, but it is long because she let it be free. You know um babies here you don't have to do too much because their hair is still so fragile. You just let it be what it is. Let it grow all of that now. Mine'S, on the hand that ain't having it okay, so i can't let it be free, like that number three and i know i'm stepping on some toes. I know i know i know even my own daughter's toes, probably oh, when it comes to this lace front. Wigs y'all y'all, please try not to get upset with me when it comes to these uh lace fronts, but um. I'Ve just seen some people struggle and suffer with these wigs using lace fronts uh using using harsh group glues on your frontal on your lace front. Um can cause breakage of the edges if it is worn too long and over time, if you're not giving your hair a break um from those wigs y'all because listen the hair has to breathe. Your scalp has to breathe. If you walk around here with a wig on all day long, every day, all day, you not get no air to your scalp, and so your hair has to breathe. That needs air, your scalp, all of that, and so therefore you lose hair because a lot of times um, the wig, is rubbing against your edges and it's being very rough on your edges and it's like, and it's not only the wig, it's the glue as well. So take that in consideration, when you're doing your lace fronts and all of that make sure that you are using a glue that is not going to be so hard to get off of your scalp. I mean you know, because a lot of people they're not putting it back here, no more, they putting it up here because they don't want to lose their edges. I know this okay um, so they don't want to lose their edges, so they're just putting it on their forehead and sometimes it can cause an infection around your your face because you're putting putting it on your forehead and not around. You know the hair area, which you probably should do, but listen that can be detrimental to your hair because it can cause you to lose some hair. It can cause your hair to fall out, um and break off, and then the damage is done, and sometimes people have so many troubles with their sides or their edges that the stuff just won't grow back and it's like what do i do now. Um and sometimes you have families that their hair, they have that bald gene, and then you just can't you just have those edges like i'm just gon na be honest, my husband's mom, her head just be like that sometimes, and i'm not trying to be funny - and I think my daughter uh, my youngest daughter. She had problems with her edges and i said well um, it's probably because it just runs in the family, because you can that family can have that bald gene and - and i'm telling you y'all, i had to literally braid her hair up to keep the sides from Falling out to keep it growing and don't mess with her edges a lot you know um. So this is why i stay on her right now, because i'm like listen, you have that gene in your family that you just don't want to be messing with your edges. Like that, okay - and let's see some of us, some of us just can't leave our hair out in and fro. Some of us can because our ends will suffer knots, tangles and matted. So some of us cannot just walk around here with a great big froyo. No, we can't be all like this out and about. We can't do it, because our hair will start to mat tangled on each other, loving each other with everything that it has. So we can't do that, so we have to just really uh put our hair up. Tuck those hands in and be on our way as well, uh number five tight ponytails. That is just light tight buns. You do not want to be putting tight ponytails in your hair, so avoid the tight ponytails um and i made a point to not put rubber bands on my hair, but i did do a video with rubber bands in my hair. But now i am so smart when it comes to rubber bands. I would just get me some scissors and you know take that little piece and cut it and it's still even hard, because the rubber band can get into a knot. So it was a while before i uh put rubber bands on my head, but you want to avoid that hairstyle because you don't want it pulling on your edges. You don't want a headache. You don't want. None of those things so make sure that you have loose ponytails when managing or dealing with your natural hair, because, like i always say, our hair is fragile and it cannot take a lot of stuff. Okay, um some some people's hair can and when you are deep conditioning that really makes your hair strong. I do believe if i was not deep conditioning that my hair had would not have thrived as much as it has y'all. It would have not thrived like that. It would not be so thick luscious easy to manage all of that, not at all um, so just make sure that you are following these tips on today, um. I will have all of these videos in a playlist, so you can go over all of these um episodes and you can just look and see what you need to do to your hair. If you are new here, if you are a beginner okay, so even if you're not a beginner, sometimes we still struggle with our hair and we don't know how to deal with it. We don't know what to do a lot of times and it's always helpful to go to these videos and just be like okay, i'm not supposed to do this to my hair. I should do this to my hair. You know but, like i said, everybody has a different journey and everything, so you need to just focus on what works for your own hair um. But i'm just here to help you and tell you some of my experiences. What i've experienced and went through with my natural hair and to try to help you to avoid so you will not fall. You will not have that setback. Okay, but where, but that's just something. That'S gon na happen. We'Re gon na have setbacks. I'Ve had it and all of that, so i love you guys on today. Thank you all for joining brown diamond reena on today. Y'All know i love y'all out there and i continue to make these videos because i love you guys now listen. I am not on my regular schedule, i do have marvelous mondays. I have one uh women winning wednesdays and i also have satis sassy saturdays, but i have cut all of that out, so i can help you out there, so i can do these series, so you can learn more about your natural hair. I love you guys be blessed.

Jubilant_Sue: I absolutely agree with you on the long braids, I feel like my hair isn't strong enough either now that I am in my 40s, especially around my edges. No more braids for me.

Jubilant_Sue: Omg I love your microphone friend ! Would you let me know where you bought it and what's the name of the microphone?
