PROS and CONS of using BAKING SODA on your natural hair - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8akd7...

One problem with baking soda is that it's not the easiest thing to dilute in water. It would take five cups of water to bring just one teaspoon of baking soda to a pH, that's safe. To use on your hair. The alkaline pH of baking soda can be very drying to your actual hair strands and, if you use it too often or use the wrong measurements, it will eventually eat away at your hair strands, similar to what relaxers do. Another issue with baking soda is to residue. It leaves behind the best way to witness this is to wipe a dark colored surface with the water and baking soda mixture, even after diluting it with all that water, the residue Left Behind is still really noticeable over time. This same residue also builds up on your hair.

cawknee: So would rinsing it out and making a very weak solution be better? I’m guilty of over use thankfully my hair is built to endure natural disasters-but I did notice some drying.

Samri Bliss: Good to know. I was planning on using it on my locks

Julianna Okike: You can use this in your laundry. For hair I used vinegar. Or you can use it to clean your hair tools.

CuteNobi: I’ve used 1/8 tsp of baking soda in a diy recipe and my hair liked it. But since my hair fell out with a different diy recipe, I decided not to take anymore risks and enjoy my hair the way it is.

How to This and That: You just have to know how to use baking soda. It is excellent for removing build up. I was my hair with baking soda and neutralise with lemon then follow up with regular moisturising process and absolutely no drying. Baking soda is being used from ancient days by Caribbean ppl.

Arlana Brumfield: There's some truth to this from a chemistry stand point. Increased ph opens the cuticle. It's great to detox and condition but shouldn't be done but every six weeks. Then the hair needs to be returned to its regular ph which is 4pts lower. Shampoo after with normalizing shampoo helps. Rinsing very well also. Replenish the hair with botanical oils while the cuticle is open will give you amazing results. This is why cosmetology, trichology and basic chemistry is important for a professional.

TUFFRYDA: why would you put baking soda on your hair…it’s for cooking and cleaning only

Tshegofatso Seranyane: Baking soda for hair? I learn some new everyday, wonder if activated charcoal can be used on hair, I mean it can be used on my face‍♀️

Denise Oates: Okay, so why is baking soda even being considered for used, if it difficult to use without possible damage and these kind of Cons. I am just going to forget about it.

Christina Curtis: Thank you

Ada Yfeoma: So confusing… couple days ago you were saying something different baking soda
