Hi, my name is Ashley Brown and I am out of Milwaukee Wisconsin. I own a salon called shavoo and I also happen to be I'm funny artist. I am super passionate about keeping her healthy, no matter what texture it is. It'S super important to have a regimen for your hair, so one thing that I think is overlooked commonly in the beauty industry in the beauty world is the need to prep your hair before you go to sleep so today, we're going to talk about I'm gon na Show you how to properly wrap your hair, no matter what length it is and talk to you about why it's so important. So, just like your skin needs crap, you need to wash your makeup off prep your skin before you go to sleep. Your hair does too, when you're here is naturally curly. Every bend in the cuticle isn't opening in the cuticle. So because of that, if you don't wrap your hair while you're sleeping at night, what happens is there's friction so the best way to keep your hair as healthy as possible, while you're sleeping, is to wrap it up. You may be watching this and think. Well, you know my hair isn't textured as far as wave curl, coils zigzag quayle. If you have straight hair and you've always had issues with your hair growing out. This is gon na be beneficial for you as well. I'M gon na show you how to wrap your hair in a bun. First, that's how I wrap my hair. So what you need for this is a brush, so you want to use a boar bristle brush, then you're going to need a scrunchie and the next. You are going to need a silk scarf, so I would say if your hair is like, maybe about shoulder length or longer you'll, be able to easily wrap it in this button fashion. If your hair is shoulder length or shorter will not leave me the scrunchies. Instead, you will need Clips the important thing that you need with Clips. If you're doing a classic wrap our clips that don't have any groupies on the side, product-wise it's going to depend on the type of hair you have. My hair is like wavy curly and it's pre lightened, so my hair has a tendency to be on the drier side. The three products I transition between our lasagna thermos musa mood guard. If I need something lighter than the thermos smooth smooth guard, I will use the lasagna 25 miracle nourishing oil. So that's another great one and then for the winter time, when my hair has a tendency to be really dried out because it gets so cold here in Wisconsin, I will use mazzani's coconut souffle if you're just getting home from work or you are pretty much like You know done for the evening you're inside for the evening you're, not leaving out the house again and you're getting ready to like wash to your face to get it ready for bad or wash your makeup off. That'S when I suggest you wrap your hair, I'm gon na take my thermos smooth, smooth guard and I'm just gon na put like one to two pumps in my hand, I'm just going to start out with one that was a pretty good sized pump and I'm gon Na rub it on my hands, like lotion, just to really heat up the products, I'm putting it on my mid-shaft to end first, I'm not putting it on my roots at all, though then, when I Jews and tape in my brush and I'm brushing it out, then What I'm gon na do is I'm actually gon na flip my head over and then I'm just gon na brush it down this way as well start to put it in like a ponytail, but I'm keeping it at the front of my forehead. So that's super important. So you want as close to the front as possible and I'm gon na take my scrunchie and what I'm going to do is begin twisting, because that's how my button start and then I'll start wrapping it around. So if it's set too far back your scarf, isn't going to stay on so super important to keep it. I start to the front, isn't cutting and then grab your scratch around, so I only do my scrunchie ones and then I actually just twist it a second time and just leave it because again I want this bun in, but I want it loose enough so that It when I shape my head, it comes out on its own, so once you have it wrapped, I'm gon na take your scarf and fold it like this hold it in a triangle and then so that the end of the triangles here and the two sides of The triangle are here, so I'm just like literally Criss crossing in the back and then I'm gon na tie this. So now it's nice and wrapped, like I said I keep the bun close to make sure that the scarf can get detention to take it off. I actually don't even with trying to untie my knot here. I actually just pull it off like this next up, you just shake it, and you see how easy it comes out from just like shaking it again. You don't want it to be too tight, because if it is when you take this down you're going to have lines from your hair type, when you've taken your wrap out, it should be super easy to brush through because it's already been detangle prior to wrapping it. So if I want something kind of more perfect, then I will just brush it through and I'll kind of wear it like this classic wrap starts the same way apply your product first brush out your hair, starting at the end. So when you're wrapping your hair classically, if you part your hair towards one side, you're, actually gon na wrap it towards the other side, so I'm just gon na brush it down and forward so brushing it down in forward. I may be wrapping it around. My head shape cuz your head honestly kind of acts like a large roller to keep the volume. My first section, I'm gon na, take my clip and put it in to secure it. Gon na keep brushing second clip and then right here. So I am one clip to clip and I'm slinging this so my next clip is gon na go right here and again, I'm using these clips because they don't have any teeth on them, so it makes it really easy for them to slide right out. My last step, okay again, I'm gon na take my silk scarf afterwards back of the triangle right put that over my head, the same way ty it just like this. So once your scarf is on its tied, then you're just gon na lightly open those clips back up and then slide them out. So there you have it once I'm done with this again. I'M just going to in the morning find that little end right, pull it out, super easy and then take my scarf off and because there are no clips in it, it just starts to fall right off, so it falls right down and you just kind of lightly Pull it down with your fingers again, we combed it the opposite direction to wrap it so that when we comb it back in the morning, we're still going to have a lot of volume. Thank you so much for watching my tutorial on how to wrap your hair. I encourage you to wrap your hair every single night. It has so many benefits as far as helping you retain and maintain the length of your hair and keeping it as healthy as possible. Be sure to follow me on instagram. Michele A: The first time a white friend of mine wrapped her hair she was so excited! She couldn't wait to tell me about her experience (seeing how this technique is hella old in the black community). I wrapped my hair for decades when I kept is straight. Now that I'm natural, I live that bonnet life.

Breanna Bahling: YAS ASHLEY! So proud to work for someone like you to be exposed to diverse hair care! You’re beautiful and take good care of your naturally textured hair!!

Lisa Nelson: I am DEEPLY saddened by the negativity that is being posted on this video. I know Ashley personally, and she is an amazing woman, business owner, as well as educator. I have learned so many great techniques and healthy hair care as a result of her teachings. This video was VERY beneficial to educate hair of all types. Have people really forgotten about “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all?” Ashley, keep putting out your amazing energy into the world and thank you for sharing your talents with us all. I’m so sorry that the YouTube community is so hateful.

alyssa olson: Thank you for posting this! I know many people will get a lot from this video. I'm so sorry to see the negativity and assumptions made about Ashley. I've known her half of my life, and she is half black for those coming for her. She's been a professional stylist over 15 years and only cares about people having healthy hair. I hope everyone can look past the negativity and learn from this great tutorial! I know I have. Thank you!

Asia Mitchell: Thank you Ashley for doing this tutorial! This is so amazing. I can't wait to be back to work with you! ❤

rach_robinson09: Thank you for demonstrating how this is done. Btw, for those who are pissed off saying she’s claiming she ‘invented’ this - I didn’t once hear her say that. She’s clearly just passing along a great long-ago invented hair tip for all women to utilize. Women need to stop hating on each other.

therustyranger: Ashley is an amazing human being who happens to be biracial and deserves absolutely none of the hate comments. She’s taught me so much about my own textured hair and actually made me feel comfortable talking to others about their own. Please stop making such ignorant assumptions about people over an 8 minute YouTube video.

Kathlena Bruce: So proud of you Ashley! I hate that I moved away, because you were the ONLY one I let touch my head back home! You have a gift! Keep it up!

ms. Parker: I have been knowing ashley for a very long time, we went to beauty school together, I really don't think she was trying to say she invented or her way is better. She was just simply showing a way to wrap your hair at night before bed. She has always been a great stylist and trained very hard to be able to work on all types amd textures of hair. This may not work for all people, but I think she meant well and she probably helped a lot of people who vould use this method.

michelle brown: Women of all colors have been wrapping their hair since before curlers were invented. My white grandma always wrapped her hair... like anyone remember the 50s?

Randy Brown: LOL at these comments. This stylist is known all over the Midwest for how amazing she is at doing hair. She can handle all textures effortlessly. This largely has to do with the fact that shes mixed, both black and white. Do you think that’s her natural hair texture? Nope, it’s not. She’s just a pro. At no point did she claim to invent anything, or be the authority on anything. But she is talented and was trained by one of the best...her dad, who is black, and was a leader in the beauty industry for over 30 years developing the African American hair care market. Y’all are petty and need to do better. Don’t judge every book by its cover, you’ll miss some important chapters.

Carla Marcelle: This is a really good video. I have so many bi-racial clients like you with length that would appreciate these details. Thank you I’ll be sharing!

Kimmysaad: Thanks for the tutorial. I struggle to maintain length. I have sort of fine strands and when i sleep my hair looks likes a frizzy mess in the morning. My hair is a medium length and i cannot get a bun to the front of my head, what would you recommend for that?

Yatta r: This is my stylist and she’s actually of mixed race (AA & Cau). Most of her clients have textured hair with a high % of being 100% natural. Let’s not discredit her knowledge based on her appearance. She’s the truth!

Sleepless SLPLSSINAL: This was really helpful. Thank you

rach_robinson09: HELP! What would you recommend for hair suddenly falling out in large amounts? Is it due to wearing my hair up so often during this quarantine? I wash every 2-3 days & brush it at least twice a day. Also, my scalp has been so oily for years now. I’ve tried so many products, I’ve tried washing it once a week, I’ve tried washing daily, every other day, clarifying shampoos, natural shampoos, apple cider vinegar, masks etc... literally nothing has helped. I use high end shampoos without harsh ingredients and rarely use heat on my hair. I stopped getting highlights and went back to my natural color. I fear I’ll have to cut my long hair short... I hate spending so much time doing my hair when I know the next morning it will be a greasy mess on my scalp. Dry shampoos just make it look worse and I hate the feeling of them.

Parena Yungwon: Y’all, was I the only one low-key mad when I read the title? ‍♀️ Not even the wrap is safe

kandis j: First of all SHE'S Black and Caucasian...Second she did not say that this was a new technique that she created...she is showing 2 ways to wrap your hair... And if you were listening you would have heard her say Classic wrap before doing the second one. Further more a lot of us black women was NOT, and some are still not familiar with the bun technique... She is not just speaking to one audience this is a stylist who has a huge Multicultural Clientele she is the don't get it twisted.. Ashley please keep being the great Stylist/Educator that you are!! ignore the Negativity

Real Thing: Thank you ❣️

Kimmysaad: I wish i had as much hair as you!

Deeann watson: That would stay on my head for about an hour before it would slide right off while I slept.

Briana S: Wow. Just the tutorial I needed.

Lisa Scales: Curly hair ppl wrap their hair I know I do lol I didn't know that it was a race own technique lol this is for everyone yall

Xomarah Dickison: I've been doing this my entire life, I'm 60 now. Btw I'm white but have very curly hair and this keeps my blow out longer.

Ama D: Just wondering what the black community feels this is only inclusive to them . I'm bi-racial. I wish my Caucasian mother would have known about this when I was young. She had no idea how to take care of my hair

J Williams: What in the.... i can’t!

Carlsen life after 60 Carlsen: Are used to wrap my hair like this when it was long in high school. Now I do the bun on the top of my head at night but I don’t wear a scarf. Wow I just did it because I don’t want my hair all over the place when I’m sleeping I didn’t know it was good for it. I use the same product she does to their excellent. I am a hairdresser but I wasn’t told about this till now I’m glad I was doing it instinctively on my own. Great video

theEarthChildx: This YouTube algorithm is something else

J S: No one else is going to say it I will: Dear Karen...black folks have been doing this forever. Why are you trying to front like you discovered something?!

Silkout Milwaukee: Why would anyone put a negative comment about a video thats showing how to wrap the hair, hell some of yall need to wrap or do something to those bird nest that yall dont want to comb and stop all that co washing and sleeping on matted hair. But a video showing you how to put rice water and other foolishness is well accepted. We need to just stop with this negative stuff, I hope Ashley does not feel bad about any negative comments,

Abijah A: BWAHAHAHAHA

Miss Katz Life: I just can't

dr holly: lmfaooo just keep smiling and nodding ya’ll

LeLa1ful: I’m so confused right now.

J S: Get.a.bonnet. the.end

Kelly101Girl: Lol I can't right now

Keke: Lol

ash: I’m just here for the comments lol

Alicia May: Ooook

kobe gianna: i thought that was jesscia maria garcia

kendra p: I think this video made me nauseous

Monica M: I was just curious to see what would be in the comments. I don’t fool with mizani anymore so....

krx: Nothing wrong with her making a tutorial on hair wrapping. BUT she should have acknowledged that this is a technique commonly used by those of African descent and not some new discovery. I do not know her ethnicity but she is mixed for sure.

Lanise Washington: I can’t

JetLerouge007 xxo: GIRL, YOU MUST BE HIGH!!! BLACK GIRLS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE BEING IN THE MOTHERLAND
