Watch the Blow Dry Mistakes you May be Making video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpFpgv...

Alright guys we are gon na talk about the common mistakes you might be making when you flat iron, your hair, hopefully you're, making none of these, but I'm gon na go through and share a few common things I saw when I worked behind the chair and give You some tips and suggestions for how to get your smoothest, straightest hair. Yet this is my hair freshly blown dry, one of the first mistakes people make is not using a heat protector on your hair, either before you blow-dry it or before you use a heat tool. Today, we're talking with flat irons, you have two options. Really. When it comes to heat protection, you can use a cream that you can put on damp hair. They also make serums and things you can put in a dry hair. But my example here is a cream. Like this, that you can put on damp hair before you blow it dry and really that's the best option, because your blow-dryer has heat so the more like health strengthening products you can put on damp hair the better because damp hair is more fragile than dry hair. Your second option is to use an aerosol spray that you can spray on each section before you hit it with a flat iron or curl it. This one protects up to 450 degrees. Let'S hope your tool doesn't have to go to that temperature. It probably doesn't here's the thing with heat protection, though no matter what products you put on beforehand or, however many products you put on. You are still going to put heat on your hair, the products that protect from heat help, but if your hair is really fragile, if it's breaking - and you just cannot figure out why it doesn't matter how many heat protection products you're using it's, the heat is still Gon na do some some damage to your hair, so try and take a break from heat. In the meantime, using heat protection products will keep your hair in the best condition possible, given the fact that you're using heat tools, so that's the first mistake not using some kind of heat protection. That'S a mistake. People make you have to use it. It really is the best thing for your hair. The second mistake is not sectioning. I can't tell you I'm gon na get my part in here. I can't tell you how many times I would ask my clients when I worked behind the chair like okay. So how do you flat iron, your hair, and they would be like well like this, and I thought well that's why you're not getting the result you want here just zoomin over it. You have a section way too big. The heat from the plates of the Flatiron is not even gon na get that middle part of your hair, because your section is too wide. So dividing your hair into sections is absolutely essential, especially if you're fighting frizz. If you're fighting a wave pattern, if you're fighting curls, you have to section your hair off. So that is the second mistake, not making sections. I am just going to divide my hair here in two sections: I'm using a duckbill clip to clip it up if you have thick hair or if you have a curl, that you're fighting go ahead and divide it into more sections, you are better off taking the Time to do a really good, thorough job and get an extra day or two out of your hair, then doing like a half way job and having to wash and start over again you're doing extra work to your hair that you don't need to do. The third mistake is not adjusting your temperature under flatiron. If you have that option, this is the t3 flat iron. I'Ve got five temperature settings here, I'm sitting on three. I usually use this brands curling iron as well very regularly, and I hover between three and two on the heat setting on the curling iron. So I'm giving this a go on three. I also love the GHD one-inch flat iron that does not have a heat setting. It is a great flat iron, though so, when I've use it, I just try and work really quickly. So I'm going to show you how to flat iron a section of your hair. You want to take a section that you can easily hold. It doesn't need to be paper thin, but it needs to be thin enough to where you're sure, when you put the five iron on there and pull it down the heat, it's gon na, penetrate that entire section of hair. You also want, when you're pulling the flat iron through to make sure you're clamping, the hair, don't press it too hard, clamp down on the hair and pull through smoothly. If you're not getting a really smooth glide through your hair, you may have product buildup on the edge. That'S ripping and yanking your hair, or you may just have a flat iron, that kind of has pulsating heat and sometimes that can drag against the section you want. Even heat come through your iron, so you're getting an even smooth finish on your section, even though my hair is straight, I like to start in the other boot area and just slide down I'm pulling at an even pace. I'M holding this section with my hand and then dropping it out if I want these hairs a little closer to my hairline to kind of bend in a little bit, which is usually what I prefer I'll pull that section out. I'M gon na put the flat iron in right against the root and then do a c-shape. So it kind of bends into my hair a little bit or into my face a little bit and then run my fingers through it and smooth it out, and I've got a nice smooth section here. So you can see the difference in how finished and smooth my ends. Look when I flatiron them, even though my hair straight so I'm gon na continue grabbing sections around my hair, always comb out your hair. Before that's another mistake that I see, women make they're just running that flat iron over sections of hair without combing it out and if you don't coming out beforehand. You'Re just gon na kind of cook. The knots and tangles and bends into your hair see how I'm pulling steady all the way down to the ends and I've got a nice flat finished shiny section I like to comb mine out right away I'll continue working my way around my head. What I like to do to get the back of my hair, a little movement, is pull these sections in the back to the side and flatiron them so they're just kind of swoop on my back, instead of being stick straight and being likely to flip out. So I'm putting the flat iron in I'm still pulling it straight, but you'll notice I'm pulling it out over my left shoulder I'm gon na slide. It down got a nice finish if your flat iron is not giving you a smooth finish with one single pass through the section and maybe time for a new one, you don't need to spend your entire paycheck on one either. There are a lot of great options that have adjustable heat dials at Ulta and Sephora that you can find for a really good price under a hundred for sure. So I'm moving slowly through this section. I only want to go over at one time. I do not want to keep going over and over the same section got a nice smooth finish there back to this front area. I am going to section off the front piece of hair that I want to pull toward my face. I'M gon na put the flat iron in here and pull straight down slow and steady nice and straight there, and then this section will go in a little closer to my root area, also slow and steady, just pulling it down slightly closer to my face. So there's the bottom half flat iron straight, I'm gon na let down the top half. If you have trouble telling the difference between the hair you've just led out of the section and the section you've just worked with, you can use the duckbill clip and just clamp. It down don't pull it into a ponytail you're gon na put a crease in it and undo all the work you just did so just slide a duckbill clip in like this on the whole bottom section and then, when you take the clip out, you're, not gon Na have a crease or anything I usually can tell what I've flat ironed and what I haven't. So I can just let it down right on top of that section right around the face here, I'm grabbing a vertical section and I'm gon na pull this toward my face. Cuz. I like soft swoops right against my hairline. I'M gon na go in at the root area with the flat iron pull it down. My wrist is bent a little bit, so you can see I'm getting a slight turn to the section go through with my comb right away. Comb it out. I'Ve got a nice little bend there, so I'm working my way back here. This is too wide of a section to grab with my flat iron, so I'm gon na divide it in half comb through this. That'S why you come through and then this is a better size for me. If your hair does not smooth as easily as mine does the smaller section you take the better, especially at the top part of your hair. You really don't need this section in here to be super straight. If you know you're gon na wear your hair down, so it may be better to spend a little extra time if you're, in a rush on the sections of hair that you're gon na see, which is that top layering right here in the face. You maybe don't need to worry about the nape area very much for volume, I'm lifting the section up. Instead of pulling it straight down, I'm lifting the section at the root here I'll show you again putting the flat iron in and I'm going up, I'm pulling the flat iron up and then I'll drop it down and I've got a nice volume there at the root Area that is another trick, and another mistake I see people will just pull straight down on the iron I mean their hair will feel kind of flat and lifeless. You can use the heat of that flat iron right at the root and lift straight up. So you get a nice extra lift if you have used a volumizing product in your hair, while it's wet, you're gon na get even a greater impact there. So I'm working on my part area here, because I want those nice and smooth I've divided them into even smaller sections, the flat irons going in right at the root going up, I'm just going over the ends, one time and I'm using my fingers just to rake Through here, but this left, my left side is done. Moving on to the back just grabbing sort of the crown area here, combing up making sure I'm all the way combed through might be out of frame for this shot, putting the flat iron in at my root, pulling it up and smoothing through one single time. I'Ve reached the front part of my hairline. I like this side. This is my right side to kind of bend and frame my face, so I'm combing this section forward. It'S not technically a bang, but it's sort of my shorter face frame on this side. I'M coming this section all the way forward. I'M gon na put the flat iron in at the root and pull it down, and while it is still hot comb it to the side and that way I'll get a nice swoop right against my hairline. So it doesn't feel like my hair is going straight back. I hope this video is helpful for you to watch. I hope you weren't making any of those mistakes and you just thought yep, I'm doing that. I'M doing that! I'M doing that right, as you watched. Of course, if you were making those mistakes now, you know not to make them anymore, so you can get a nice smooth result to your hair you're, not doing extra damage to it and you're, keeping it nice and strong and healthy. While you get a really smooth flat ironed look, if you enjoyed this video, you may enjoy a video that I've posted called the blow dried mistakes. You might be making I'll put a link to it right here on the screen. You can just click right on that box.

Carrolle: Thanks for this video, you must have read my mind this morning! UPDATE: I did everything you told me to do with my flatiron (a cheapo) and my hair finally turned out good today. I've been fighting with flat ironing it, and am always in a hurry and trying to iron huge chunks. It didn't take me as much time as I thought it would to get ready, by just following your steps and taking smaller chunks. I am so thankful for this video!

Shelley Dee: I needed this flat iron lesson sooooo bad! I’ve been doing it so wrong. Thank you!❤️‍♀️

Cheryl Hand: Great video!! I was definitely making some of the mistakes you mentioned. Going to try to flat iron my hair right now!! Quick question: Can you tell me what heat protectants you recommend? Thank you!!

Stevdaughtr: This was so helpful to me. Thank you for showing the correct way. I have watched a few on the subject and I was glad no backcombing was involved.. bc it would only produce frizz no matter how many attempts I had made or products I had tried on my wavy hair. Time to section and do it properly. I enjoy your make up tutorials as well as product recommendations. You have recommended several winners for me. Really glad I kept on watching as each video came out. Your content is very helpful to a 40 something who realized its time to start learning. Sincere thanks!!

Cindy Kean: I also am a hairstylist, and have curly hair. Just another tip, keep your comb in front of the iron. I never put my comb down.

Ana Valdesuso: I love your hair tutorials Kate I learned to flat iron and curl my hair with your videos!!! Thank you.

Rita Gregg: Hi Kate, great video. I Love My GHD flat iron. I’ve had three and they’ve quit working right about 2 years. This is perfect timing because I’ve been asking myself “which would Kate recommend” I know you like GHD, too. My GHD just quit last week. I’m going to try the T3. I have thick frizzy hair.

Amanda H: I have super super thick long hair. My suggestion is also to use silk drops or some kind of smoothing cream before you flat iron instead of constantly combing through it. It will give tons of shine and help with frizz throughout the day. I get compliments every day on my hair.

Lady Nash: Very very helpful thank you ! You explain everything so detailed and demonstrate for first timers like me! You definitely just gained a new subscriber

Sue: Thank you for sharing your helpful tips and tricks. My question is how to flat iron a side bang that is about half the length of yours? Do you pull it straight down or angle it to the side? Thanks Kate

April Rawls: I have thick course naturally curly hair and the T3 is the best hair dryer ever made...it literally leaves my hair straight..without using a flat iron. But i think im gonna purchase a T3 flat iron after seeing this! T3's are a little pricey but so so worth it!

Jennifer Bartram: If my hair looked like that after blow drying I would never straighten my hair!

Ali F: To get a smoother look run the comb right in front of the iron, do it together. Comb in front and flat iron right behind it.

Smita Thekkepat: Wow, this is extra helpful ...what great tips, especially about the bend and giving volume from the roots!! Thank you so much!!

Nicole Stroh: Hello my favorite YT Hair Guru!!! What do you recommend to help with static? I have color treated, shoulder length, fine, thin, straight hair that I wash every other day and straight iron on Day 2. The static this winter on day 2 is making me bananas! Erika Venegas: Simple but Very helpful video. Thank you

Cynthia Martin: Thank you so much for this, very helpful!

Gypsy Witch: I love your hair it's gorgeous. I'm currently growing out my hair which is at the end of my earlobe. It's a bob how long would it take to get my hair to that length?

all_the_good_names_are_gone: The mistakes: - Not using a heat protector (cream or spray) on damp hair before blow drying/straightening. Try to also take a break from heating generally. - Not sectioning (note: her hair was first split into 3 major sections: top, and bottom left and right. Bottom left and right were then each split into 3 smaller sections. Top was then split into right, back and left, with the right and left being split each into 3 smaller sections. Make sure that each section is not thick enough that the heat can fully penetrate it. Also, after finishing from the bottom major sections, clamp them instead of putting them in a ponytail) - Not adjusting the temperature of the flat iron - Not combing out hair before flat ironing it (note: she flat irons each section only once by going through it slowly) Tip: ironing each section towards the top direction will create volume as opposed to leaving it flat.

erica giannantonio: Helpful as always... Love the dark roots also by the way!

Holly Sharp: Did you cut your own hair? If so, how would you describe your cut to a stylist? It’s so cute!

ashley n: I have been wanting to buy a new straightener but cant afford the T3. Do you have any other ones that you can recommend at different price points?

Tracey Poland: I really enjoy your videos, it might be nice to see you work on a curly/wavy hair to curl it or straighten it the way you do yours. Maybe you have a gal pal that you can borrow. :)

Mrsmac10: So good!! Would love a video for curling iron mistakes, why your curl may not be lasting., help;))

Andromeda V.: Great tips! Your hair looks beautiful!Thank you!

Reba Seymour: Thanks. Yep, I was making one of the mistake. I won’t be doing that anymore ‍♀️

Eva Marie: Is it okay to use flat iron after wetting hair with protectant product? The hair sizzling sound seems scary.

J Lieb: Really like the way you speak and explain everything.

Debbie Lee: My hair just doesn't straighten out smooth like yours. No matter how small my sections, how slow I pull it through, or what iron I'm using, it will never be stick straight and smooth. My natural texture isn't curly or course - my hair is just stubborn!

Stephanie Landon: Hot damn, 2 simple tweaks and I can’t believe the difference!

D H: "under a $100 for sure.." Me: "under $20 for sure!..."

rooney meadows: I’d like to try Aquage Root Lifter but I only wash my hair every 3 days. Will it gum up or cause my hair to feel gross before the next wash??

Nancy Squier: Thank you!❤️

Sepio Unupe: Your hair is sooooo beautiful I honestly wish I had straight hair

Drea: I have to wash and straighten my hair every day or my hair looks greasy and stringy. I wish I knew how to not have such oily hair without having to wash every day. I get to the point where I don’t even want to anymore it’s so much work

shannondollie: Lol @ everyone her hair is straight already yeah, but the ends are a lil frizzy...shes going for that smooth silky finish

Araceli Castillo: Can you do this same video for curling wand? Or direct me to a video of yours?

Olivia Mae: My hair is fine and coarse, if I try to section it it resembles mozzarella cheese,it doesn't behave like yours, making it a nightmare to style...Hairdresser makes it look great,me, not so much...I've got the boar hair brushes, expensive masks, shampoo, conditioner, heat protection spray...my hair literally hates them all and me.....it resembles cotton wool...I wash it once per week, because it doesn't like being washed more often, I use straightener once per week, if I leave it to go curly, I cant get a brush through it....I'm laughing because if you saw my hair you'd honestly think I don't spend a cent on it, when literally its breaking the bank

Ryah Marie: why is she starting halfway down her hair to flat iron it? Is there a reason for this?

Ninjago 16: Hi! Have you ever tried TYME hair curler? I am desperate for something easy and a curl that will last. Is this product worth the money?? I’ve also checked out Lang air tools.. i am a total tomboy and have never been good at doing hair.. but i do want to look pretty!!!

Vicky Londres: I was subscribed to your channel ages ago, it was my go to for hair help, then it disappeared from my feed. I couldn't remember the name of the channel, so it disappeared completely. Now I was browsing some hair stuff and it popped up and to my surprise, it didn't come up as subscribed. So now I'm back in and hopefully YouTube won't "unsubscribe" me against my will again.

Carolyn Reynolds: Lol flat ironing straight hair is so different than curly/frizzy hair. Talk about sections ...... let's divide that section by five, then five more!

Linda Evans: Thank you for you tips......you are a joy to watch and listen to...... And can you please share what necklace, and where you purchased it ? It is beautiful. Thank you in advance
