Our hair tutorial today shows how to curl your hair with a straightener or flat iron! We also show an easy "hair hack" or trick using nail polish to determine if you have spun the flat iron correctly to get the perfect curl. We thought of this trick as my daughter was learning to curl her hair with a flat iron for the first time and are hoping it will help other beginners. This method can be tricky to master at first, but once you get it down, it becomes easy and so fun. We love these curls because they last for days and look so gorgeous!

If you are looking for a flat iron to purchase, we recommend finding one with rounded edged plates (which will both straighten and curl your hair.) The one we used in this tutorial has been great and is made by NuMe: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018...

Tresemme Heat Protectant: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B...

As mentioned in our curling tutorial, depending on how you twist the flat iron, you can make looser waves, beachy waves, or bouncy curls using the same technique.

Hey guys today, we're going to be showing you how to curl your hair with a flat iron and to start with before you buy the flat iron. You want to look and get one with a rounded edge, and I don't know if you can even see this on camera, but these plates are rounded on the edge instead of just flat and that's going to help while you're curling. The other thing that you may want to do if you're a beginner at this is, as you can see, both of these sites are exactly the same. So what I'm going to do is just put a little bit of nail polish on one of these sides, so that I can tell which is the front and which is the back right now I have this turned off just so that I don't burn her hair, While I'm trying to explain how to do this, but the first step is just to grab a section and you don't want a ton of hair, maybe just like a one-inch section and then you're going to place the flat iron at the root. So, as you can see, I have this nail polish facing forward. I'M going to turn this around 360 degrees so that the nail polish again is in the front. So I'm twisting it as you can see, there's no nail polish, so I've only done 180 degrees. I'M going to go completely around so there, the nail polish is again and that's how you know you've twisted it all the way around, and then you can just pull it out. If you want more of a beachy way, if you're just going to turn it half way so depending on the curl, is the way you're going to spin this. So if I was doing a beachy wave, I would just turn it to the back so that I can no longer see the nail polish and then I would go ahead and run that down her hair. So the other thing you'll want to consider when you're doing this is the way you're spinning this flat iron is the way the curl is going to go. So if I want the curl to go away from her face, I'm going to spin it this way. If I want the curl to go towards her face, I'm going to spin it this way. If that makes any sense and then one more thing before we get started what I found that really helps after you get the hair locked in there. If you hold the end up like this, it's going to keep the hair in there more nicely. If you just let it go, sometimes the hair comes out and it doesn't curl all the way down. So I'm going to go ahead and plug this in and section off her hair and then we'll get started on actually curling it. Before you put heat in your hair, I would highly suggest using a heat protectant. This is the one we used it's just made by Tresemme, I'm going to be wanting these curls near the front of her face to go away from her face, so I'm going to be turning the flat iron this way, so I'm starting with my nail polish in The front and I'm going to turn it around until it's back in the front and then I'll go ahead and run that down the hair. So this is the type of curl you can expect. I really like it because it's more curly at the top then at the bottom. I think it's more of a modern, looking curl. So what I usually do is just alternate the curls I'll do one going away from her face and then maybe one going towards her face. You don't need to get it perfect every other time, but that's just going to help your curl so that they don't nest together if they're kind of going in opposite directions. So this time I'm going to go towards her face. Okay, I'm going to go ahead and do this middle layer and then we'll come back when we're doing the top all right. I went ahead and curled everything, except for this top layer, and this is probably the most important part because it's what's going to show the most. So what I usually do up here is part it out. First, I'm just going to do it on the side and then I'll, usually curl, all of the hair in this layer away from her face. So all of the curls on this side are going to be coming this way and all the curls on this side are going to be coming this way. So again, I'm going to be twisting the flat iron back like this to make the curl go away from her face. So now that I'm on the other side of her head, I'm going to be twisting the flat iron back this way if they lose you next week,
