How This Cirque Du Soleil Performer Hangs By Her Hair | TODAY Originals

The way I explained my job, I'm a performer and then they ask me all do what do you do like I'm, a circus performer and then they keep asking like? Well, I'm the hair hanger. I hang by my hair, I'm vanilla bean, I'm the hair suspension artist for volt and Cirque de Soleil. I get started art as a dancer and when I was 18 I decided to try something new like the circus just to diversify my work and then I started learning more Aero and acrobatics air suspension is painful when you're learning, but every discipline in the circus is It took me about three to four months to be able to bear all my weight only in my scalp also for my body to get stronger my neck to get stronger my hair follicles to get stronger my whole spine. It'S very important to respect that time of learning, so you don't hurt yourself nowadays, I'm not sure if I don't feel it anymore. If I got used to if I got stronger, but on stage I'm not in pain at all, I'm not suffering. I promise you that my day would start my breakfast hoppin them to my bike and coming to the circus, and then I play around two hours of my trombone. I like to do things to compliment myself as an artist as a person, but they're not physically, so demanding we usually have hit Herschel's around like one hour depending on the discipline you're performing I'm a fan of the people that I work with. So I've always tried to watch from behind the curtain a little bit and I still get surprised if every movement they do, we have to deal sometimes with people being out of the show or an injury. So we have to be prepared to adapt to action. Whatever circumstances sometimes missing a person, sometimes a different technical situation, so never one show that's exactly the same as the other. We'Re always adapting for my act. I got ta be flexible and strong at the same time. So I'm waking up my joints and making my muscles. Remember that they had to be strong and engaged depending on the discipline you are performing. So if I'm doing every hoop, I will spend two hours or an hour and 30 minutes stretching and spinning and hanging what it takes to be a performer. It'S much more than just the physical level, because yeah we got ta be strong, we're gon na be flexible. We got to sustain a routine of so many shows, but the most important part of it is for sure the mental level we have to do show sad or happy or sick and for sure mentally. You have to be very stable. It takes about 45 minutes to do the whole make up. This is the time where I calm down. I put my musical and I concentrate for the show it's my preparation among my warmup, my body, but mentally. This is a very important they have to be placed in the right place. Otherwise, the wrinkles like the way you the face, moves, they all hold. It'S a very important part: one string of hair, it's very weak, so that the trick in my act is to get all the hair together. So it's a strong - and I spent like 25 minutes 30 minutes during a set of knots that allowed my hair to sustain my whole weight. It'S only a metal ring and a rope. People always think, like all your act is beautiful, but there's so many people involved in my act to make it happens. I have people calling me, they know my act and know exactly the time to put up and down and people pressing the button, so the motor would work. I have to trust that they did their job, so I can do mine. That'S a big thing. A lot of trust before I go on stage: is it changes every day? You know sometimes I'm a little bit more sad or sometimes I'm Way happier. So I try to calm down and relax and breathe and prepare to connect with, like almost 3,000 people, that I have to give all this energy. So I need to be very, very calm. I cannot do the same thing every day, because I'm not the same every day, so I used that to make my act more real, so it's not just choreography a repetition every day to make them more fresh Serkis, it's not about being someone else. Is about being you and and showing yourself the way you are with all your fears, desires and that's what makes it so special, it's about being you in front of so many other people. Every day's, a different reaction, like screams, are, are even like laughing when they applaud, and they show me that they would like to act. I feel like okay, you did your job today, you may go home, they like that. They are with you they're clapping. They are here, you, you,

danila bim: Thank you so much for sharing my work. I had a great time shooting this interview! ❤️

Josephine McPherson: I had the honor of watching her perform live, and honestly it was magical. Like the whole crowd just held their breathe and watched her twirl. The jewels on her outfit reflected the light and she was basically a human disco ball.

Avalee: Nobody is going to be snatching her wig.

owndugqjr: Imagine trying to pull her hair in a fight and she just doesn’t react

Patrick S.: I loved it. Though it would have been so interesting seeing how she tied the knots and adjusted the headpiece.

Shirley Kim: Her: says hanging from the ceiling by hair doesn’t hurt Me: cries while taking hair tie out

Covidescapeslvl4biolab-this mask will stop it: I absolutely love the kind of people it takes to do something like this...the entire team at Cirque...I've watched the auditions, the years of practice to even be accepted...just incredible how hard people are willing to work for the entertainment of others...

Half-Blind: TWO HOURS hours of trombone DAILY?! One does not casually do that. She is really good at practicing.

LixxieDUST: Her: hanging from the ceiling by her hair doesn’t hurt Me: cries when my mom is braiding my hair

SnyH12: VOLTA was such an AMAZING show. It’s inspirational, beautiful, and the story telling was immaculate. Cirque du Soleil is so visually pleasing and tells everything so well.

Eloise Marie: I had no idea she really hung just by her hair... did not know it was possible. Her act is so calming while spectacular. Bravo!

mochipengin: i was so puzzled and entranced when i watched her performance live a few years ago. can’t believe she’s actually hanging by her hair!! amazing

Kaycee Voights: I watched the cirque du soleil Volta and it was an amazing act! While there were some technical problems when I was watching the show, all the performers were excellent and Volta was an amazing show no matter who was up on stage!

Lena Santana: I saw her performing in Washington, DC. She was absolutely amazing. And I love the way she says that you just have to be you... that was the entire takeaway I had from the Volta: it doesn't matter what some Mr.Wow thinks about you, it's about what you think about you. Be yourself, embrace yourself, love yourself. Highly recommend seeing Volta if you have a chance, but any other of Cirque du Soleil performance is worth watching.

LEB: I saw this act. She was amazing, and the performance was beautiful.

N. S.: Her act looks so... surreal! The way she's floating over the stage. hauntingly beautiful.

Thaia: É isso que faz a gente ter orgulho de ser brasileiro(a). Ela é maravilhosa e o trabalho que faz é incrível.

Shari Dillon: I have severe medical issues that have me in a wheelchair-- my cervical spine is very unstable and daily tasks are a challenge. Watching people who can do this is like watching someone learn to literally fly. It feels so superhuman. I can never get tired of watching.

Bren Gz: I can’t even keep my hair up in a bun without feeling like my scalp is being torn away.

LSP BEAUTEA: Unbelievably amazing!!!!! Just wow the strength & dedication this would take is over and beyond. I seen them preform last year and my jaw was on the ground the whole dang time!

lovelyoliveart: I saw one of their shows. I HIGHLY recommend it. It was really good, so many different kinds of skilled people

Seppe Matteo: Who's here after watching Lindsey Stirling !!! OMG This looks painful to learn, and I admire the courage it takes to learn this!!!

Renee: cirque du soleil is amazing. I saw my first show in Vegas a few years ago and was blown away. The dancers/performers are are amazing at what they do, and you can see the passion when they do it. It was well worth the admissions ticket, and tbh its something I'd go and see again!

Savannah Root: Hearing that she only started training for the circus at 18 made me feel really good because I have always wanted to work for Cirque du Soleil as an aerialist thought I would never be able to since I didn't start any aerial until I was 13 but hearing her story made me happy

Philip Lee: I saw Volta in DC....and you were my favorite act.Fantastic and unbelievably amazing performer you are!!

Wiggle Juice: Cirque de Soleil was truly amazing. Saw their performance “Crystal” in Moncton, NB; really enjoyed the movement of props and acrobatics.

Intrano: She's so humble and down-to-earth. Love it!

finpin: Cirque Du Soleil is so amazing, I've only been able to see it twice but I'm always spellbound by the preformers and the costumes and everything.m..

GalaktycznyPies: Tbh i was hoping for secrets of having such a strong hair

lily cagle: Everyone: focused on how she hangs by her hair Me, a musician : this woman, just whips out her trombone and passes it off like it's nothing

Katie Koche: Magnificent performance! I saw Danila earlier this year in SF. I have never seen anything like her show!!

astroman269: Absolutely loved her performance when I saw her a few years ago.

Olivia Goeke: I remember seeing this video before I went to the show, and was so sad when she wasn’t there! I know people have gotten hurt on the show so I hope she is ok ❤️

Mai: "and then I play around 2 hours of my trombone" Honestly so unexpected I love it

Angie Marr: such an insane and beautiful talent. Great to see someone so dedicated to the art. Definitely shows that there is so much we can train our human body to do.

C Golden: Saw her today in Volta. Such a stunning performance! I didn’t believe she was just hanging by her hair!

Theresa Toomer: Wow! Saw this performance last night. Thanks for sharing your talent and gift!

randomgirl L: This is amazing. I love circus performance so much.

ckrause81: She is so stunningly artistic my eyes can barely take. Bravo!

Wm. G. Thilgen Jr.: It's totaly amazing what the human body is capable of if and when one condition themselves with sufficent practice. I've seen a number of CDS's performaces and have been awed every time. The dedication the performer's have and the mentality of everyone envoled in their routine in making it seem so easy; Is amazing! Performaces like this one and many many other's have been around for milleniums. It's only been just recently, that they are getting some of the respect they deserve for their dedication. The first time I ever actually paid for a ticket to a CDS perfomance. It cost me an unrealistic price of 60.00 U.S. dollars. After I watched the entire event. I'd would have paid considerably more for a ticket and now days, don't consider what the cost is if and when I purchase a ticket to a CDS perfomance. I don't feel that's it's a cost, I see it more and an donation or an investment for the future generations of any and all human's to view.

Missangelblanco: It's amazing what artists can do and how underestimated they are

DA: This girl melted my heart!!! She is really so gorgeous and amazing!!!! I loved it the most!!!!

Satan No 27: Sis has more strength in her hair follicle than I do in my entire body

Neonravekid: One of my favorite acts. Absolutely beautiful!!!

Avery Garner: And her scalp is no where near as high as Jojo siwas

Mara Henao: I watched Volta last year and I was blown away by this act, i literally cried it was so beautiful.

A B: Watching this made my neck hurt! This girl has serious skill!

CT1010101: She's so eloquent and philosophical about her work. So powerful!

gloomfly: i’ve actually been to this show and it’s amazing! i really wanted to know how this worked.

Slartibartfast: Doing this day after day must take a real toll on the body. I hope these guys get paid well for what they are doing.

Lisa Galva: Incrível ❤

nito larioza: My wife and I enjoyed your performance It was the best number in VOLTABRAVO

Skein Game Podcast: Ok the hair is incredible. But also the neck/spine strength and control.

Annabel Dobash: She seems like such a chill, humble, but hard working person. As a performer/director she is the kind of person I like to work with on stage.

Don Boughton: Danila You are a very amazing performer I had the honor to high five you in San Diego when you and the other performers were exiting and walking up the steps next to the guests. Also thanks for the video on this site Thanks again Danila

Matt C: She's fantastic!! Incredible performer. Much respect from USA!!

bblizzyy: I love seeing women becoming physically strong. Its so beautiful to me. All the muscles yet still so feminine and graceful.

Joyce Chahine: She articulates herself and her work so well. A true artist and professional!

Isabella C: ✨with so much RESPECT to the Art & Artists!

Kimberly 84: Wow. She's absolutely amazing ♥

Elle’s Wallet: she actually articulates herself pretty well. love her

nuclearcasserole: Her performance during the show is several minutes long, there are two words that come to my mind as I saw her, Breathtaking, and Extraordinary! And she seems like such a normal person! It was very entertaining that you put together this video.

MsCristinika7: You can see how happy she is with what she does as a job. Congratulations, you are a hard worker and you deserve all the success . Greetings from Romania

TB: Volta was hella-cool, and this act was absolutely mesmerizing. She created such beautiful lines and her attention to details was inspirational. Bravo. I love the shout-out to the behind the scenes crew. Much respect.

Keila Andrea: I saw her in Chicago and I loved her ! Her and the whole show were amazing !

Tactical_ Slushii: I was there in volta! Virginia I’m pretty sure, beautiful performance from you and the rest of Cirque du Soleil’s cast!

mynamegoeshere: “They are with you.. they liked it”? Omg this girl is too humble. We LOVED it. So much respect.

Ellegaitor: I used to cry when my mam brushed my hair as a kid lol when this woman is literally hanging by her! there’s no doubt she’s talented and an amazing dancer and Ariel artist

Bimbi: I seen her act last Thursday in LA, she was amazing. Great performance.

whytower: What a great role model. She's physically healthy, shes got mental fortitude, shes doing something she genuinely enjoys. I need to get on this level asap before I die working retail.

A.K looming: This circus came to my city so I got a chance to see them perform and oh my gosh it was awesome!!!

Emoretta Robinson: Wow! I am impressed by her discipline, drive, commitment and talent! She makes it look so easy, effortless and yet beautiful all at once!

Robby Wiley: She was absolutely amazing!!!

Sur Jeudi: I applaud her, she's talented and dedicated! I can't even imagine, because I gotta protect my edges.

Sanbika: Just wish I heard a little more about the actual act of hair hanging (is this something someone came up with recently, has it been around for centuries? How did it start?) And I would have loved to see the actual construction of the bun she trusts her life to ( kind of an important part, don’t you think?)

Trelawny O.: This is sooo amazing❤️❤️! Look at the muscles in her arms and neck, that’s strength!

Janete Carin: I can see that a performer is very much in tune with the energy not only physical but the spiritual side of delivering their act. Beautiful act. She is really amazing!!

Raeya: Man, I sometimes get sad I was never able to do gymnastics as a kid (parents couldn’t afford it) and be able to do similar stuff. Obviously a circus is different from gymnastics but still, the training and spinning stuff always looked like fun to me. If that makes sense. Most circus performers are/were gymnasts is what I’m tryna say lol Seems like a fun career :/

Vicente Trejo: I saw her show yesterday she’s amazing

T. J.: OMG I'm only 3:42 in & I'm tearing up!!! The people jumping on the wall got me. I guess I'm reacting to the attention to grace and skill. I think so many people don't have regard to how present these people have to be and how much attention to detail it takes to point your toes & hold your limbs perfectly straight. It's so beautiful!!! My internet is PAUSING so it's taking me 20 minutes to watch an 8 minute video....I'm dying to know if they're going to show how she styles her hair. If they don't, I'm apt to think that there's some hidden trick or device in her hair.

sunflower: I thought surely it wouldn't be her actual hair but now I'm in even more shock than I was before

DT Hurley: The Cirque Du Soleil performers put their lives and bodies on the line each day, even in practice, for something they and their audiences absolutely love. I don't think they get anywhere near enough clout, acknowledgement, or acclamation for their beautiful artistry. Their work is better than many actors because an actor is giving us a rehearsed line whereas these performers are essentially giving us their whole body, it would be nice if they could be better paid and awarded. I am in no way saying that actors don't give us their best and deserve their pay and awards, I just think these performers are giving us equal if not more and should be rightly compensated.

Glacian: Don’t know why this popped up in my recommendations, but I LOVED it! Would totally love to see this in person

Just Cade: It's all fun and games until her hair just decides to give out one day No but seriously, I could never do this, props to her for her dedication and passion for her art.

No No: Imagine how fun it would be to work at a circus!!

Mirko Cukich: Great performer. I've grown up going to the cirque and catching them every chance i get. She does an amazing performance and I love how she took you behind the scenes to see her life a bit and then behind the curtain too. The Cirque has always had the best talent from all around the world and Danila is def. one of their best.

KAT MC: You are so strong and have so much talent indeed Thank you ❤

Sara M.: This video only showed like a lil part of the perfomance but man omg that was so beautiful. That choreography and the hair suspension wow!

Jappiepai: Much respect. She is amazing

Jk Goulet: She has such impressive & beautiful artistic talents & hobbies!!

vallyra16: Utterly amazing! She is definitely one of my favorite aerial performers ever!!
