L'Oreal Steampod Vs Ghd Professional | Flat Iron Honest Review | Wavy To Straight!

*I received the L'oreal Steampod from Influenster for my honest review on their website, however this video is NOT sponsored and I was not asked to create this video as part of my review.

I try out and review the L'oreal Steampod flat iron vs the GHD Professional series Flat Iron on my wavy hair. I go from wavy to straight and also try a flat iron curl.

So i mean wow, actually, that's impressive, hey everyone! Welcome back to my channel if you're new here my name is michelle and i make videos about parenthood and lifestyle, videos like fashion and just everything under the sun. So in today's video i'm going to be testing out the l'oreal steam pod um. I just received this and i'm going to test it out on my hair and also compare it to my loyal and trusty ghd pro flat iron, because this is amazing and see how good they do. So, let's get started on that. I'M going to just brush my hair first and make sure it is tangle, free and then i'm also going to spray it with some chi 44 iron guard. This is what i use for when i apply heat to my hair. So a couple things about this l'oreal steam pod um. So basically what it is it's a flat iron. You can also use it to curl your hair, and it has this clip right here: um, that's like a little comb so that when you're doing your hair, you comb it. But the big thing is that it uses steam to um flat iron, your hair so use steam and heat, which i don't know how good that is for your hair um. It reminds me a lot of back in the day when we were like young teens, like i'm almost 30 years old, so think of like the 2000s think of the flat iron that everybody had back then um. It was the remington wet to straight flat iron. I'Ll put a picture of it here, i'm sure everybody knows what i'm talking about um, but it was terrible for your hair and it said that you could straighten your hair when it was wet and it was just awful for your hair, and so this kind of Gives me like a throwback of that? I don't know how good that is for your hair, but basically what you do is you. This is a water tank right here that pops out like so and you fill this with distilled water, and then you insert it back in place and then, when you squeeze this, it puts steam out onto your hair and straightens it. I guess um, and then it has two. It has little arrows right here that you're supposed to keep pointed down as you're doing your hair. So what i'm going to do is i'm going to straighten one side of my head with the steam pod and the other side of my head with this um, the ghd. I think the big issues i'm going to run into this is a one one-inch plate on it, which is the same as this, but you can see that this is much better bigger. I mean this is much bigger because it has the extra like comb on there and the spot for the vents that you can see there, and this doesn't, and so i have like wavy frizzy curly, hair um and you can see along here like this, i think, Is gon na be a problem to get to with this, because this is just so big um, so i think that's gon na be a big issue that i have with it, but we'll see i don't know um how well it's gon na work. I also don't have long hair. I have medium length, hair, um and generally for medium length, hair you're, gon na use a smaller flat iron to make sure you get it all, so i'm very interested to see how this works for my hair type. So let's get started, i'm going to spray it with my chi flat iron guard and then we will section off and get this party going and if you notice the kitchen behind me, i'm just a regular mom. I have dishes on the counter um. This is the only place. I could do this because we don't have a big space in our bathroom so just deal with it, i'm not a beauty, youtuber and then i'm going to brush it one more time, just because my hair tangles really easily. So i want to make sure there's no tangles in it whatsoever. So let's get started um. I set this to 350. It goes through. The temperature goes 350 390 and 410 um. The reason i set it to 350 is because this only goes to 365. It has one temperature and it's 365, and that does great on my hair and i don't like the idea of using too much heat on my hair. So that is why i chose that. I'M just gon na split my hair in the back, i'm gon na section. It and then the way i do my hair is, i tend to do this side. I do i section it just one, two different sections on this side and then this side. Since i have a side part, i do three different sections and i do it that way, um. So i'm gon na clip this back and we'll get started on this section. I'M scared i'm gon na burn myself with this. So we'll see, i guess so. I got about a one inch section here and we will get started. I got the arrows pointing down, i'm really nervous, so i mean wow. Actually, that's impressive holy crap um. It didn't get the underneath stuff, but we'll see if i can manage to get that it does kind of have a mechanical noise see like i don't think i'm gon na be able to get that stuff without worrying about breaking my or getting myself. So that's really straight in the first pass like holy crap wow and it's not wet. I thought it might be like a little damp, but it's not at all. It does feel a little like crunchy. I guess if that makes sense, so we'll see here, we'll do another section. You can see the steam coming off of it. It'S always a nerve-wracking thing. So wow, okay, that's actually incredible holy crap um! I am pleasantly surprised by that. Oh my gosh, okay. So what i'm going to do is i'm going to straighten this whole side of my head with this, i feel like i'm, going to have problems with the back, but we'll see i'm going to straighten my whole head with this whole side of this head and time. It so i know how long it takes me and then we'll move on to this side and i'll talk about the ghd a little bit and then time how long that takes just for the difference. So i'm gon na set a timer, see i'm having this issue where it keeps bunching up. I don't know if you see that i don't know why it keeps doing that. So i would say that worked really well like look at how shiny that is um at first, it felt like a little crunchy, but i think that might have been from this and once i like broke that up it kind of went away. But it's like super nice, like i didn't. I had a little bit of issues with my underneath layers, um, especially in the back i feel like. I couldn't fully get them, but i mean that's okay, but like that's actually really impressive and nice, and it's like it's super soft, like that's really soft. So this is like the before of what my hair looked like, and this is after, like that's, that's really awesome. Actually, i am impressed with that, so that took me about six minutes to do this side of it, um, which this side has less hair on it because again i part my hair a little bit different. I part my hair to the side, but um. That'S i thought that was gon na be. I thought it was gon na take a lot longer with this, so that was really fast, actually impressive. I, like it so far, um and i'm also gon na try to do a curl with this um because you can curl your hair with this. I don't know how well it's going to work because it's like the size of my head. Almost this thing is kind of heavy, also a couple thoughts on a couple thoughts on it. So far, it's kind of heavy. I can see this comb. Luckily it's removable, but i could see this being an issue if you have like coarser hair um, it got caught a couple times for me, but otherwise it wasn't too bad. So now i'm going to move on and try and do the rest of my head with my ghd and see how i feel about them and give you my final thoughts. So this is my ghd flat iron. I have the ghd gold series, um professional. I got this oh how, many years ago, six years ago, i think almost um. This is my second one. I had a friend, i have a friend that is a hair stylist and she hooks me up with these every time. Um. My first one i accidentally fried on a camping trip. I tried to use a power converter to use it so that i could straighten my hair and it fried it um. So i had to get a new one, but i've been loyal to my ghds for about 10 years now um, and there is the i would say these are about the same price. This is 250 and this i believe i paid about that much for it. Um. 200. 250. I can't remember what it was um. This, i will say, is very lightweight compared to this like there's a huge weight difference on these um, but i'm gon na get straightening this side of my hair. Now, so let's go and i'm gon na time. This side as well, you can see that's the first on this side, it's not as shiny. I will say that it's not as smooth looking and i have to do a second pass. So there is that factor to this, but i feel like i can go a lot faster with this, maybe just because i'm used to it and i've been using it for so many years, but it does feel a lot faster to me. I can just grab big sections instead of small sections. I will say that so i'm done with this side now um, i it took seven seconds or seven minutes and 23 seconds to do this side. Um this side does have a little. It has more hair like there was a whole other layer. I needed to straighten on this side um, but i would say this after seeing that i would say this is probably a little bit faster since there was more hair on this side and it was only like only took like a minute and a half longer, but I think once i use this more, i could probably do it a lot faster, but now for the comparisons. The one big thing i feel like is this side is shinier. Like look at that, like that's incredible um, i would definitely say this side is shinier. This side feels softer they're, both soft um, but this side just feels a little more like crunchy and like damaged than this side. I guess if that makes sense like even all the way to the ends it's soft, whereas on the side it's like it, the ends feel like they get tangled easily um. But you can see the difference here. Um, maybe i'll move the camera, because i have a window on this side, so that might be why this is appearing a lot. Shinier um, so i'll move the camera in a little bit, but i am like blown out of the water. I did not think i was gon na like this thing. I thought it was gon na remind me of back in the day with that old wet to straight hair, flat iron, and i am like blown away. I definitely don't think you would need to go up much higher than like 350. Unless you have like very coarse, hair or very curly hair, then i could see you needing to go up to the. What was it 390, or something like that or the 410 410 seems way too hot, like 410, would burn your hair. I don't think anybody would really need 410 um, but i would i'm pleasantly impressed like with this. I think i'm gon na continue using it. I don't know if it'll completely get rid of this um, but i'm impressed with it um do i think it's worth the 250 dollar price tag, uh it's hard to say um. My big thing is like i'm very i've always been very into my hair. My hair is the one thing i really take care of and um. That'S why i invested in a good flat iron. I feel like this would probably be worth more like the 150 range, maybe um, maybe up to like 200, but i feel like 250, is a little pricey for it. But maybe, since it's like new on the market, it might drop down a little bit, but i'm impressed with it. I would definitely like recommend if you can get these like on sale. I don't know if they ever have sale um. I would definitely recommend getting one because i very much enjoy it um now, i'm going to try to curl with it, so i'm gon na do a curl on this side. Um, underneath i don't curl my hair like ever um, because i'm just not good at it, and i just i feel like it doesn't work very well for me, um one thing you can see like up at the root i couldn't get in very well um with It but that might be a good place where a small flat iron like that, would be helpful because then you could just go in and do those finishing touches, i guess maybe um. Does anybody remember those little tiny flat irons where, like they were like that big and they were used for like straightening your bangs, what a wild time we lived in or for, like short hair, i suppose, would use those, but i'm gon na try and do a Curl, so i'm gon na heat this back up to 350., see it's. I don't know if you can see there it's flashing, so i'm going to pay attention this time and see if it actually stops flashing like once it's ready, um. I don't know how good of a curl i'm gon na get out of this, because it's a lot. It'S almost, i would say it's close to two inches and i just feel like two inches is pretty big for hair my length um. So i'm just going to take a small section. You can hear it making noise it's kind of loud. That'S another thing, it's loud and heavy, like that's the biggest issues i find with it. So we'll just wait and i'm looking at the water tank. I barely used any of the water - that's in here like you, fill it up to up to here and it's down to here. So that's not bad at all um. I don't know if you're supposed, i would assume you're supposed to empty the water tank after you use it. I don't know the instructions, don't really say much about stuff like that, so i guess i'll just find out okay, so it did stop flashing. So that must mean it's heated up, so let's go ahead and do a curl over here and see. If we can do this, i don't i don't know how to do curls very well, so, like you're supposed to how do you keep it upside down, though, because you're supposed to go with the arrows, it's like. How do you keep it because you're supposed to you have to turn the flat iron, so that's kind of confusing? Okay, okay, okay, hello, wow! That'S actually impressive! Oh my gosh! This thing keeps on blowing me out of the water like look at that wow. I'M impressed very, very much impressed wow, okay, okay, i see you, i see you l'oreal steampod, okay, then i'm gon na try and flat iron. This back out. Okay, that's even more impressive! I just flat ironed out a curl and it like actually did it um. Most of the time it would just be like wacky and weird, but okay. I would my final thoughts on this. I would 100 recommend it. If you can swing the high price tag on it um i absolutely love it um, i'm going to continue using it. I don't think it's going to completely replace this. I think i'm still going to use this at times, but i'm going to definitely keep trying this and seeing how it is. So. Thank you so much for watching this video. I hope you enjoyed it um, please like and subscribe, and comment down below how your day is going i'll, see you in the next video bye you

TheRealUnrealForReal: I have the 3.0 and it’s such a huge difference to a ‘traditional’ flat iron. It makes my hair smooth, bouncy and really healthy looking. It also feels so much better! My hair is not crunchy and dry anymore. I’ll never go back to my Chi straightener, ever again! I think it’s worth the price.

Cee C: Been using the 2.0 steampod for years and my hair feels healthier. Also, it stays straight and soft for days so I don't have to straighten everyday = less heat overall

Julie O: I have wavy hair that is also coarse and a lot of it. And even though it is not long it takes forever to blow dry and flat iron. I’ve tried GHD, Babyliss, Chi, Kipozi, BioIonic, Vibrastrait…and I still don’t get “white girl hair” after I’m done. This totally makes me want to get the Steampod. I’ve never understood the rave reviews about GHD. It’s never worked well for me. I feel like I would spend less in the long run because I would not need a bajillion products to get sleek and smooth hair.

Jude Harley: You should only ever need to do one pass with a straightener for the hair health. I think that’s why I like these

Acclaimed House Cleaning: The MaxiGlide, infomercial, was around mid 2000's, had pins in the plates and a water reservoir to produce steam. Worked well, but cheaply made.

Carol Byrne: Which straightener do you use more now?
