About Shameless Maya

"What would happen if I shamelessly promoted myself for 365 days?" My channel started out as a social media experiment and now it's a lifestyle. I hope my journey from shame to shameless inspires you and others to not be ashamed of who you are and to share and celebrate that shamelessly. Here on my channel, you'll find videos on lifestyle, inspiration, fun transformations, techie vids for aspiring geeks, beauty, fashion, and so much more.

♪ ♪, What up beautiful people? It is your homegirl Ms. Shameless all up in your building. And she is serving you a bowl on her head. Yes.. I'M gon na break it down how I got this look.. I have not done a hair video in forever., So I'm gon na make it up and give you seven hair videos back to back to back to back to back.. I'M gon na have some weaves some wigs. Some curls. In this case is my how I get my hair laid.. I just realized that there's so many things you can do with your hair, with wigs with weaves with just styles., So I want to play and have fun with you guys.. So I'm going to give it all to you for the next seven days. Make sure you guys follow me on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat. All that fun stuff. Facebook.. Are you guys still on Facebook Holla at your girl at me, now., But yeah? My hair has been through. So much and you've seen it here on the channel. I had long curly natural hair that I buzzed off. I donated it.. Then I bleached my hair platinum blonde.. I dyed her lilac teal.. I buzzed her and gave her a fade., And then I started to grow her out into a short cute little pixie curl., And then I even texturized my hair, which means to loosen my curl. Now a little backstory --, the hairdresser --. I don't know what she was thinking, but she left it on. As a relaxer., I don't relax my hair., I like the option of curls or straight.. So now the front bits of my hair are straight which bothers me. And the rest is curly.. So she's been rocking this blowout press-out look for a hot minute and I'm talking let's get into this tutorial now, shall we She in the shower. She about to get her dirty head washed and cleansed after weeks of going dirty. She's a dolphin. And she's using Shea Moisture., I really like this shampoo because I find that it moisturizes and cleanses without stripping my hair.. So I like to focus on the scalp using this brush right here and just really get in there.. So I rinse it and then I go in for another layer of shampoo., So you want to use a shampoo that isn't too dry. That isn't drying at all.. What am I saying too dry? What Disney song do you guys sing in the shower [ Singing wildly ]? So then, once I have done two washes. I use a conditioner that has lots of slip. I'm using this conditioner by Ion that I got from Sally Beauty Supply and I legit live down. The street from a Sally Beauty, so I'm constantly there.. I use my fingers to detangle. That just puts less stress on your hair.. Of course, you've got to give them some slow-motion realness.. Once the hair is done. I am now spritzing it with a leave-in conditioner. When it comes to leave-in. When I'm trying to straighten my hair, I like to use something, that's light and thin, and that's because I'm not going to wash my hair for a while. So I don't want the product to build up., Then I'm prepping, my hair with a setting lotion and I'm using this setting lotion that I got from Sally Beauty Supply and I'm just working it through my entire head. And then I'm going to go through and use A fine-tooth comb and get the hair laidt laidt with a T, okay, So she's gon na go in, and comb in whatever direction that you're trying to style. You can comb backwards., You could put a part., You can comb and put your hair forward for all. I care., But the idea is to get her stretched out, get the curls all stretched out.. Now I'm using this streamer. [ laughing ], This hair streamer.. It'S not really called a streamer, but it looks streamers for parties. And I'm pulling it and wrapping it around. My head. And I'm securing it with bobby pins.. You don't have to use bobby pins.. You can just tuck it underneath., But I like using bobby pins.. So I'm going to go over that with a few pieces., And I picked this up actually from my hairstylist. When I used to go before my hair was ruined. And -- yeah., So I'm doing -- I use between two and three pieces. Once that's secure. I use this satin head, wrap that I've had for years and I just get her secure. Now. You can leave this on all day until your hair dries the following day or you can leave this in overnight.. For me, this process takes two days.. It'S not. I get my hair straightened in one session.. This is a two-day process for me. And that's because I'm trying to avoid absurd amounts of heat on my hair.. So if I can dry my hair naturally by air-drying, then that's what I'm trying to do boo.. So this is the next day.. My hair is a little damp. And I'm just taking all of this.. She is becoming undone. Taking all this off. And she did wave a little bit, but she is so laidt.. So it's a little damp., I'm using a blow dryer to blow all of this dampness out. And I'm using a round-barreled brush. And because my hair is processed this whole step of blow-drying is really fast and really easy.. Actually, the whole reason why I texturized my hair in the first place was because I wanted to cut down on hair styling time to get my hair straight and it does make it fast, and I do look like a mushroom, head., Ooga booga.. Okay. So now that the hair is dry, I like to use this heat protectant.. I go for heat protectants that are lightweight again because I'm not washing my hair too often.. I don't want it to be too dirty.. I don't want it to feel heavy.. So I like this - and this is by Main Choice. - I'm just working it through my entire head. And then I section her off with some jumbo clips., But I go in find small pieces.. This is a thin piece, but it's very wide., But I like this flat iron., It's ideal for short hair. And it's good for travel. And the ends of the flat iron are beveled. So I can actually curl my hair with this as well.. So I love that. And that one was by Tool Science., So she's, just pressing out her hair. Getting her all kinds of mushroom bowl, realness going. And I just work from one side of my head to the other.. I didn't really get to show you the backside of my head, because you can't really see that, but I'm just working my entire head. And this whole process takes me about 30 minutes. ♪ ♪. Now I'm just finishing off the look with a misting spray that just adds a little bit of sheen and again lightweight. And then I'm having some fun playing.. I also notice the bottom of my hair by the nape grows, noticeably faster., Maybe not faster, but it's more noticeable when it does grow. So I like to use my little peanut razor to just clean up the edges. And with this hair length it's me fiddling.. There'S a lot of fiddling happening. And she's, ready to slay the day away with her boss and get up get your life girl.. Now, if want to know how I created this makeup, look I have a video. Just click on the upper right corner under the I. And for all the products that I used make sure you read the description box below boo.. So that's how I got my hair. Looking like this., I try to only do it once every two weeks once a week if I'm feeling dirt magirt.. My hair hasn't been this long. So now that it is, I can have fun and do stuff.. I do like to play with a wave and that's when I take my flat iron and I just kind of curl it in, and I give it a messy beach wave situation. Sthashah: Am I the only one wondering how she managed to wash her hair and still keep her makeup looking FLAWLESS !

Ivy Shutes: Gurl I never thought in a million years that Miss Mya would give us another hair tutorial. Yes Ma'am.

Shan BOODY: Love this!! You are the queen of hair videos so stunning, entertaining, beautifully shot and FuN! All your strengths in one video

TabMUA: The editing of today's video looks great Maya! Love the little sparks and stuff, if that makes sense! Also that hair is really working on you! Love it.

Kiana Hamilton: I love you Maya. Thank you for being you and encouraging us to do the same!

Vibr8love: When Maya clipped them locks, her life changed in major ways.

duncandy: My hair journey's been similar to yours. Similar texture, too! I recently just chopped (most of) it off, and it's stylin'! People think short hair cannot be versatile, but you've just proven that it can be so much fun, especially when you have curls. BTW, love the Tangle Teeze brush. I've never thought to use it in the shower as a scalp massager. Thanks!

3wi sha: Love how your hair looks with the side part!

Laura Wize: Ugh, the transition is so real. I use an anti-reversion shampoo and conditioner to go from curly to straight and it last me about two weeks. So I'm never in danger of relaxing my hair. It's nice to have the option to choose curly or straight. I don't think I will go back to relaxing my hair.

Kimberly Reveil: That style is super cute, Maya! I transitioned and was natural for 3 years. Then did a big chop in October (I literally had 1 inch of hair) because the hairdresser fried my hair :( So Im back to square one, but it's great bc I'm learning my hair all over again and it's much healthier!

Erin Land: I love my short hair! And feel like it's my best look! But I often become SOOOO bored with it! So I'm loving that you are showing how you style your short hair!

Leta: This is so nostalgic. I used to do this same routine when I had relaxed hair. Thanks for this trip down memory lane. I'm here for all these new hair videos!!!

kharyzma4u: Looking good slaying all around LA!!! As for my hair journey, I am finally starting to reach the hair length goals I have set, so I am so happy. My hair is very healthy because a girl has been consistent with those deep conditioning treatments!!! Yay! Matter of fact, I'm 'bout to go DC right now! Lol. Thanks! And you're still gorgeous!

Soulfully Sierra: I love my hair so much, even when it tries to fight me haha. I chopped it off last year and its been amazing to see how it changes. Love your videos!

Vicannibal: hey gurl!! omg you are SO amazing you inspire me SO much! I have short hair but I'm trying to grow it out. I had a undercut mid october so now I'm in the AWKWARD STAGE! It is not that bad, YET! Hopefully I'll hold on to my word and don't cut it all in 3 months! I had straight long hair most of my life and then one day BAM CURLY STUFF! I had blonde/white hair for 6 months this year and now I'm working my natural hair brown/blackish. THANKS for the video, awesome as always xx

Just Safi: I have been a subbie from way back when the hair was long and natural. Love the transition in your hair. Keep doing you boo.

IslandCurls: Yesss yesss yesss! Honestly Maya your hair is goals in every way! I'm planning to do the BC and I've been waiting for this!! I can't wait to start doing cute styles like this!! Love youuu!!!

Nakikke Wallace: Yaaasss Maya! Thank you for the hair vids again. I feel like you are my hair spirit twin!

Tezara: I’m gonna hopefully use this for when I cut my hair short after it grows out (we got it permanently straightened). Thank you!

Katrina Lark: Day 1 WOO WHOOOO! Loving this Maya!! Thank you for doing this!

Janice Hearts: You actually helped me go natural. I watched you for curly hair help because I was relaxing since I was about 9 lol Right my my hair is at her best and it's all because of you!!

JessicaAloha TV: I love your natural curls... I remember years ago when you shaved your head live. What an emotional video!!! I cried!!! You are gorgeous and can pull off any hairstyle. :)

Hairfanatic1: STUNNING! I thought your hair was beautiful long but now I have to say I LOVE it short!

Ivy: I love your videos, your faith is inspiring and you're beautiful inside and out! I've had a crazy journey myself, I had really curly hair but then I straightened it everyday and burned it so my hair went from curly to a hot wavy mess.. so I decided to cut it the ends and bleach it.. and that made it so much worse. I had to get my ends trimmed every month and I had a semi curly bob for a year! Lol I stoped straightening, stopped coloring it, stopped bleaching it and now my hair is longer and curly again. Been a crazy journey but that's the beauty of hair, it grows back and you can do so much to it :)

Nyarai Tawengwa: This is such a great idea for playing around with and in between length/cut! Having grown out my twice from cutting it waaay short, this stage is always soooo awkward. I love playing around with colour and highlights so it's currently mid-length and I'm thinking of lightening it in the spring as I went from blonde nightlight in the summer, dyed it back to black... and will see for 2017! Have loved following your journey Maya, such an inspiration!

Thayná Oliveira: You just read my mind with this video. I have a very long curly hair and I've always loved it but lately I've been seriously thinking in cut it out. This was very helpful because I had doubts about styling and hairstyles variety, so thanks gurrrl

Anais Cuvelier: Thanks a lot for inspiring me as always !! Love your videos and it's partly because of you that I've started my own channel ! ❤️

Dominique Boyer: I loove this look, especially the shorter back. I'm still in the middle of my hair journey. I started in March and have been cutting off gradually cause I'm too scared of a big chop (I got a 5 head girl). but It's getting longer so yass I want to try this look.

abyie123: You're so lucky you can pull off any style! my biggest struggle is that I get bored with my hair really quick so always cut and colour it

Sharon Tillman: Love!!!! Can't wait to see what the next six days bring

Amenah Thornton: In 2016, I cut my hair to a short afro a couple of months before I found out I was pregnant in october. My hair grew out pretty healthy and long. Around Jan. 2018 it was past my shoulders before I cut it again because of heat damage. So right now, I'm rocking a pixie hair cut. This hairstyle is working pretty well for me cause I am in college and I have a child that I need to take care of. Things been going well. Before I wouldn't do much with my hair except put it in the ponytail and i felt bad because I was neglecting it when it was long. I would like to see more short hairstyles I could do and easy tips to take care of it when I am too busy.

Desiree Marie: OMG your video has resurrected my horrible day! So cute, fun, and bubbly! I look forward to the next few looks! :D

SayySooFlyy: I Hate To Be The Creep, But Gahhhhhh, You're Gorgeous

ticklez95jigglez: Gah! My hair journey has been long and winding. I had pretty long hair up until summer of 2014 where I cut it off for a big chop. It grew back fairly quickly and now I'm just working through keeping it healthy, gaining more length and trimming my ends. I really want to rock a pixie cut one day, but my face is so damn round! But I'll figure something out. I loooooove your vids. You're killing it out here!!!

Leepak1: I'm about to celebrate my three year locaversary (12/18) and with that, I decided to get an undercut (it also solved some breakage issues! #twobirdsonestyle) -- I LOVE IT!! It's edgy and fierce dahling...yasssss! It's taken me a while to become completely comfortable with my locs, but I definitely feel like it's now a great representative of me and my sense of style! Your hair looks gorgeous btw! What's good from Brooklyn, NY!! :) ~Lisa

Amburger: I have a similar journey to you only I was 4c originally! Now I'm in a relaxed asymmetrical bob. I do wash the condition and straighten my hair once a week. Do you you think that's too much? I love your vibes girly! Keep putting up all your Maya realness.

Sabrina Witwicki: Even though we have about the exact opposite hair I had to watch because I just love your personality! You're just so fun to watch! :)

Andreana Warlow: Love this! I had this hairstyle once upon a time. I so miss short hair. Slayed!!!

DivinelliGames: This helps a lot cuz I have short hair and girl I never know what to do with it and now I know I can slay with that straight hair look. Time to change it up. Thanks boo boo

Marielou Makeup: I'm in that in between stage at the moment where I almost have like 10 bobby pins in my hair!! Weaves are very expensive here in Australia and I can't seem to find a texturing lotion either. The struggle is real down under love your energy and video Maya x

Tyiece: I love your cut, I want a fierce cut one day when I reach my goal length and get tired of it lol. My hair is relaxed and growing well so far after so many setbacks. I did a wrap tutorial a few weeks ago

Stylish Curves: This is so cute. I had the same kind of cut a few years ago. I called it my Ike Turner nut-bush city limit cut from the movie what's love got to do with it. I recently started growing out my hair so I've been wearing top knots for the past few months so I didn't have to curl it.

Ava Kristin: I'm so happy you are doing these hair videos! Can't wait to see more!

Ashley Santiago: I've been natural for 6 years, but my biggest struggle is retaining length! I big chopped for the 3rd time in July of this year, just because my stylist flat ironed my hair and I had terrible heat damage. But now I'm at this stage where I get crazy fairy knots and it's cold in Indy, so I can't spritz my hair everyday to keep it poppin, but wearing wigs is getting tiring since my hair isn't long enough to braid!! I'm at a serious stand still and I'm trying not to cut it again. Help!!

Shamira Lee: I have been short and relaxed for 4 years now and I've loved every minute of it. Only recently, I've began to consider cutting my relaxed hair off and starting the process of growing my natural hair. Believe it or not, I can't really say that I know what my natural hair texture is really be like because I've been relaxed since I was a kid. but your relaxed hair texture is so much like mine.

Sada' Demoin: Currently going into my second year of transitioning from permed to natural, so I'm rocking box braids to help. It's been an interesting journey to find the right products, still searching for a the right moisturizer and I think I need a new heat protectant.

April: This is awesome! Recently I cut MOST of my hair so now im just seeing how it plays out. Experimenting haha so its helpful to see what you do! I sort of have mushroom hair when its straight too so I totally feel ya on that :P

tulil78: My natural hair journey has been fun! I notice that my age and/ or medication hasn't affected my hair growth. I just had my roots rebleached a week ago and I can already see my black roots.

Internet Citizen: I never thought a bowl cut could look so sassy! You look fantastic!

Hazel Nonan: Yasssss! I'm so excited!?!? One of the first vids I saw on your channel was one of your hair tutorials. It was just a few weeks before your big chop. Since then I've gone more natural and haven't dyed it for about a couple years now. I learned to love my curls and texture. Atm, I am growing my hair out in hopes of being able to donate it in the new year. The look you are rocking in this video is the style I've been gravitating towards. Either way, enjoying my hair journey. Can't wait for the other videos :D

Melanie Sartin: Always looking fabulous, Maya!

Markey Hunter: I use it every 4/5 months my hair grows out fast I love using it I love the straight look I get when I use it

Abs Trewin: Thank you so much for these! Finally some styles for short hair :)

Mizosoop: YES. HAIR VIDEOS. That's what I came for. Dude, I miss my long straight hair. But, I don't want to damage my curly hair. So, I never EVER straighten it. My curls are so small, that I wouldn't even know where to begin. Lol.

oh hey fatima: So cute! This video makes me want to stop being lazy and start styling my short hair again lol

Thrive Szn: I love how Maya keeps saying "she" as if she is not Maya lol ❤️

liserrrz: That cut is everything on you! You make me miss short hair. I just started a loc journey. Can only image once it's super long since short hair and I are friends lol

Jazy A: Girl, you are flawless ! Love you ❤

Jazmin Jordan: I have been missing your hair videos! 7 days of hair videos... love it!!!! Sorry about the accidental relaxer. :( My Hair loves that SheaMoisture Shampoo, and I just used it last week Thursday after not using it since earlier this year. Beautiful straight look on you, Maya! I'm back to being in a happy place with my hair since I received a much needed trim after not having a trim by a natural hair stylist since August 2015. I'm still working on learning to style my hair (i.e. wash & gos , regular twist outs, regular braid outs, flat twists which I plan on learning, cornrow braid outs which I plan on learning, Dutch braids which I plan on learning, and Goddess braids which I plan on learning) as well as how to keep my hair moisturized, so that it can stay healthy.

Taylor Cenac: Doing my hair used to be so much fun, seeing how long it was getting and trying new styles. But now it's grown so much, it's down to my butt and it's so thick doing it is a chore. But I'm too afraid to cut it!! I've resulted to buns and twist protective styles.

Breann LaFaye: I missed your hair videos so much! Such a treat to get 7 in a row!

Zahara: You're the proof that girls could be beautiful even with short hair. Powerful meaning.

RyMingTahn: Hey Maya! I tend to love longer hair, BUT Yes!! C'mon Shroom!! I love this look >.<

eVaniwithaV: I love when you talk in 3rd person! Your hilarious! But as far as my hair journey, I went natural in Feb (2016 after transitioning for 1 year) after I was texlaxed for 4 years after being relaxed most of my life (since 4) and I love not using chemicals anymore! I do, however, probably have more time to dedicate to doing my hair than you...boss lady! haha

Blended Fields: I am loving your hair right now!! I've been lazy and haven't been doing much with my hair, lol. I need to get back on it though. I've been natural for almost 5 years. I have a 2 year old now, so I've been focusing on her mini hair journey.

Nora Ventura: girl love it, you look fabulous as always ❤❤❤❤

Kuukuwa W: I found your video of the buzzcut when i was considering doing one for myslef. When i saw your video it gave me the confidence to slay that hairstyle even though most of my friends and family told me not to. I now have a curly pixie cut and I am so happy with it. I just want to thank you for helping taking the big step because i know hair is such a big deal for some girls and you made my "big chop" much much easier.

Curlymamii: I went from heat damaged mami to curly mami in a matter of 2 years. It only took two bad decisions and bad hair stylist to erase all that hard work. My long and luscious healthy curly hair is now gone :'( . I'm currently on my second curly hair journey. I don't know why it seems so much more difficult the second time around lol

CherieMonique: Girl, you are bringing me back to my relaxed days with that hair wrap paper! + That Jim Carrey pic....DEAD! I'm natural now and I'm finally at BSL after like 5 years! I treat my hair well but I guess I haven't figured everything out because the last 1/3 of the length of my hair usually feels damaged...keep in mind that I have not used heat in 3 years and I am ruthless with the shears when I need to be. The only way I've been able to retain length is by hiding my ends under wigs and in twists and braids. Any friction is death to my ends.

Chanelle Novoséy: Great video Maya! Love your hair! I am transitioning my hair from relaxed to natural it's a lotta work! BUT if you can suggest some cute natural curly/kinky wigs that will still make me look like "me" lol that'd be great! #notificationsquad!!!!!!

Sole 2 Soul: I am currently struggling with going very gray while at the same time growing out a big chop colored red. The struggle is really real espeiially since I am not really a wig/faux hair type. I've been rocking teeny bantu knots for the last two weeks as a protective style trying to get to that next phase of growing it out.

MxOlivia: Hey maya, my hair journey has been a struggle. I recently started growing out my hair, and have been doing so for the last three years. Unfortunately my hair grows really slow. I'm also having a hard time keeping it from looking like a birds nest without using a bunch of leave in conditioners and stuff. Anyway, i wanted to know how you keep your hair moisturized, detangled and healthy so that it can grow properly?

Chantris Trammell: My hair journey began, in part, because of going back and watching you shave your head. I did the big chop a month ago and I love it! I love the texture but don't like how people call me sir when I'm obviously a woman :( I got boobs! Still don't regret it though. :)

Olivia Joelle: Finally a poc with a hairstyle like mine. Every time I search a tutorial it's either a white girl or somebody with a bob or mid length hair. This was perfect, thank you!!

oyato11: Can we have a moment for the makeup look in the shower only shameless Maya ❤️

ColourByCandice: Great video once again! surprise surprise lol Your videos are always informative, creative, and relatable:D

tiera sheppard: one of the struggles with my curly hair is that I have a different texture in the crown area..so it grows differently. it's frustrating because it has a slower growth pattern making my hair look short. I got fed up and recently flat ironed my hair. about a week ago, trying to keep it that way for a while

Erica Baker: im a 17 yr old junior and i did the big chop on my hair july 26 of 2016. its a struggle lol. yay for 4 months natural!

Kara23: Gorgeous and simple. I swear I want to cut my hair after watching your vids.

Whatta Weekend 2: but like why is maya so great!?

Fiy Ade: Wooo! Some things I miss about my relaxed days, can't lie. Like how efficient the flat iron was in straightening my hair.

Teresa L.L.: I love love this style so much. I've been thinking of cutting my hair for a while but my curls are so thick. now I think I might get my hair cut like this.

Jayanna Reid: Thank you for the hair videos, ya girl (new to the twa) is struggling with styling!! thank you love youuuu

Brea Tummings: This hairstyle is everything she is gorgeous ❤️❤️

Chance Lee: My hair journey has be great length wise, but i have a hard time retaining moisture in my hair and detangling. i will DEFINITELY try that conditioner you used because i have very thick hair and i need as much slip as possible!

I Am Ella Bella: You look beautiful! Your hair, you're skin, everything

Liliana Matilde C. S.: you know the video is great when you're natural, 4C and still stay around.

laavasmom: Love this look on you !!! You are just gorgeous darling ❤️~Ty

Kendra A: "Accidentally relaxed" that's like my number one fear of the hair salon , next to having too much cut off. But you make it work!

Derrick Fullwood: I am mixed Filipino and black so I have slightly textured hair but I've been growing it into a man bun for a couple years now. I'm so happy with the result and I now can wear my hair curly or straight since I have the length for it !!!!

The Jamaican Girl Sings: Love this!! Your quality and production is So Good.

Chardonnay Reynolds: Since I'm in college my hair journey is constant protective styles so it's either in box braids or Senegalese twists. I only have my natural hair out when I'm on break and I just let is breathe and don't apply any heat unless I blow dry after washing it. Now my main goal is to achieve length. It's grown significantly longer but im finding that i have to trim it before and after every time I get my protective styles in and then taken out so I feel like there's really no growth and it's at a constant length. How can I grow it and not trim off so much so that I fee like I'm still getting somewhere? It's long now but i know a good amount is going to be trimmed off when I get braids in a few weeks

Sincerelyves: love it, I'm considering getting it done to my real hair.

Style Moments: That haircut looks amazing on you!!!

Brittany Fox: you're my new fave! my mushroom cut is the reason why i decided to go natural...I was too lazy to flat iron my hair every week. & now that i've been natural for 3 years, this curly shiz is just as much work lmao

KennyJ2000: Just recently I got a buzz cut because I hated how my hair was. It was a short tangled mess when natural and I got my hair relaxed once in awhile because of that. I love the new style I have now so far and hopefully I can learn how to take care of my hair if it grows.

Rahimah K: thank yooooouuuuu, Maya! I just chopped all my hair off and I love it... it's about your legnth. I needed this video too!
