Oh, i know today's video is gon na make some of y'all mad, but it's fun mad hi guys welcome back to the channel. It'S a girl, a a it's a girl, of course, welcome back today. We'Re going to talk about all the things we're going to leave behind when it comes to natural hair. It is about time that someone talks about it and i know how you like to tussle: it's okay. If your favorite thing gets dragged a little bit, don't take it personal girl, it's business. We can laugh about it. Okay, i've done all of the things that i'm going to mention all of them, i've done worse, which is why i can talk about it. So don't take it personally anyways, let's get this video started because it's juicy and we need to get right into it. Alright, so the first one which i made a whole video about it. If you want to get more detail, you can go ahead and click this video and it's going to be linked down below. We are leaving protective styles in the past. Oh, we are starting things hot. I know someone's ready to just do that in the comment below here. We are, though, we're not talking about protective styles like this, where your hair is nicely tucked away and you're, looking cute, no we're talking about leaving protective styles in your hair for months. At a time in the name that it's making your hair grow faster, it's not protective style. Don'T make your hair grow period. Hair growth happen from inside. Your protective style is on the outside. So we're going to leave protective styles right in the past and we're not gon na do them anymore, especially the ones that are detrimental, especially the ones that are ripping out your edges and listen. I know a lot of people do protective styles and they get great results with them. I'Ve done protective styles and retain a ton of length. However, let's not ignore the fact that protective styles don't work for a lot of natural and are ripping our hair out. Let'S not be blind to the fact that a lot of us have issues with edges. Your hair is extremely dry because you leave it in a protective style forever. You don't actually take care of your hair in the predictive style and your hair is just in really bad shape because you're doing these protective styles back to back to back to back, there's a lot there's a lot when it comes to protective styles. So, just because it works for you does not mean that there aren't any dangers associated with it. Okay, so we're gon na leave that in the past number two and we're gon na come extremely strong. Once again, we are going to leave the hair growth oils where they belong in 2021, we're leaving them behind leave the hair growth oils alone, and i've said this before, and i have a video on it as well. So if you want to get more juicy details, click the link in the description box, but every time i say if someone's like. Actually that's not true. I have a special concoction that my great grandmother passed down to us. It'S been from generation to generation, and it's made my hair grown down my butt. Your hair would have grown down your butt, regardless of using the hair growth oils or not. I said it. Okay, now, okay, i know everyone has a special sauce and a special recipe, but one thing that is very common with all of the special sauce and the special recipes is that you are taking care of your hair and you are massaging your scalp and you're consistent With your routine seems like that is the consensus with all of the little hair growth. You did not just slap some oil on your hair and never washed, it never conditioned it never took care of it and your hair grew down your butt crack. I don't. I don't know i haven't heard that story, yet i'm not gon na say it's not true. So if that's your case leave a comment down below, let me know, but for me i'm gon na leave hair growth oils in the back of the bus. So the third one, you know how people say: dirty hair grows faster in the back of the bus. Actually, you know what this one can get off. The bus off the bus dirty hair does not grow any faster. Okay, like that again, hair growth happens on the inside dirty hair is on your scalp. It'S not making your hair grow any faster. Let'S stop saying that, so that the next generation can stop doing that. Okay, let's just all agree to disagree. Ladies, we're no longer going to say that dirty hair grows faster, wash your hair, wash your hair weekly when you think about it, when you think about your skin, would you not ever wash your skin because your scalp is just more skin and you spend a couple Of months back of the bus, okay, thank you number four and i hate to say this because i've done it and i have so many videos on this on youtube. I'M pretty sure. If you go back, that's all i did. We are no longer sleeping with our deep conditioners in okay matter of fact, you don't even need to use your deep conditioner for more than half an hour. I know i know you know what that one, i'm a little lenient with it. You know i feel like she can stay with us, because i still remember the joy that a good, deep conditioning session would bring me like an hour or two hour. Two is like the sweet spot for me. I guess it used to be, but we're no longer sleeping in our deep conditioners. Ladies, you don't need to sleep in them. It does not work better because it's been on your hair for two hours or more. Your deep conditioner does its job in 30 minutes. Some of them says 5 to 10 minutes on the back of the label. Why do we feel the need to leave it for 50 to 75 minutes? Why i don't know, but we're leaving that behind? We no longer need to do this girl, it's okay! Let it go it's not that hard. If you're, using a quality product that is actually doing what it's supposed to do, then you don't need to sleep in it to get the benefits. Okay, so the next one don't come for me. Okay, remember! I'M just a messenger girl, the do it yourself recipes, you know with the bananas and the avocados we blend those up and then put it on our hair. We'Re no longer doing that. We are done with that. We know better now and if we can buy a good banana and avocado eat it girl, please invest in your nutrition. Instead, stop slapping avocados on your head and saying that it's working, and on top of that i remember the very first time i did an avocado mask way back in the day because, like i said i've done all of these things that i'm talking about. Okay, the first time i did an avocado mask girl. I had avocado chunks in my hair for up to a week. It was a mess, it was a nightmare and i guess my blender did not work everybody's doing avocado mask and like bananas and yogurt and mayo go you'll need to do all that, eat it eat it. Instead, okay, go please: you will actually reap the benefit of your avocado if you eat it versus just put it on your hair in 2022, we're eating our food, okay, we're not blending them up and rinsing it down to drain. You know what else we're leaving in 2021 and this one's very important. How do i even say those so this one i felt like i needed to put it in a category of its own, because it's a big one, we're no longer oiling our scalp. Stop throwing tomatoes at me, so you know what my problem is when it comes to oiling your scalp. It'S not the act of oiling your scalp, because girl lord knows i used to love me an oiled scalp. It'S the fact that we we do it all too much just a little too much do we need to put so much oils on our scalp that it is dripping down the side of our legs on our pillows. It'S everywhere. Do we need to do all that? Personally, i think using all the oils on our scalp is what's giving us what we think is dandruff and dandruff is separate than dry scalp. I mean it's hard to tell which one is which is by looking at your scalp, because it could be dandruff, which is a fungus. It'S a whole different ballgame. There is a way to deal with dandruff, but does not include oils if you're putting oils on it. You'Re actually feeding the fungus fueling the problem. In any case, if you have dry scalp now it could be a result of you putting too much oils on your scalp and you're, not washing your scalp consistently. So now you have a ton of product buildup on your scalp and you're, like oh, my god, it's dry, so i'm gon na put more oil. So now you're stuck in this vicious cycle of dry scalp, so give your scalp a break. Stop oiling your scalp and see what happens just do it for six months? Give yourself a go. Let me stop doing it for six months and see what happens and if i want to go back to my oils, i'm gon na go back to my oils. Nothing'S gon na happen to your actual hair because remember, hair growth happens from inside and then your scalp is out here on the outside. Okay and if you are going to do it, why not just once a week or maybe twice how about we just kind of like take it back a little bit and see what happens because we use so much oils in our routine from start to finish, without Realizing it we're brewpoing with oil, your shampoo has oils in it. Your conditioner has oils in it and you're putting oil on your scalp, and then you continuously oiling your scalp up until you wash it again. That'S a lot of oils and just like you, i was caught in that same cycle, doing it over and over so anyway, all right, y'all! Well, you know what that's enough. That'S enough roasting on your favorite things, which i'm sure you probably feel some sort of way about me now, if you do feel some sort of way leave a comment down below, but just know that i may respond or may use your comment as inspiration to my Next, video, so don't forget, don't take it personal it'll be fun to talk about it in any case. Thank you so much for watching this video remember if those are things that you do do in your hair, routine by all means girl. Do what makes you happy? It'S your hair, not mine, but i'm just saying you don't have to do certain things that you're doing, but if you want to by all means, thank you so much for watching today's video. I hope that you enjoyed it. If you have any video requests, leave them down below otherwise be sure to subscribe on your way out. If you made it all the way to the end girl, you might as well subscribe. Wow, like you mean you're out here, just scraping, you might as well subscribe and join the family anyways. Thank you for watching girl and i'll see you in my next one bye.

sherlyn: I feel like the best protective styles are the ones that don't require extra hair involved (just use your own hair). That way, you're not forced to leave it in for weeks at a time. Just taking down a protective style that has added hair, it's so dirty and there are tangles at the roots that could lead to breakage while taking it out.

SheRea DelSol: At the end of the day, imma do whatever I want lol. Yall don't come for Jenn. This is her opinion and everybody has one. If you find benefit from the things she says NOT to do, keep doing them lol. If you think she might be right, stop doing them. It's really that simple.

Lauren Whitney: Girl, I took your advice and eliminated oils during my last wash day. I am shook. When you first said that, I was like, "ok, this lady crazy." But Jenn!!! My paddle brush glided through my hair just fine without it and my twist out lasted longer. I didn't need a ton of product to manage my tangles at all. And the best part, I didn't have a bunch of product and hair caked up in my brush. You were spot on with that one, honey.

Precious Me: High five! I agree with everything you said. When ladies speak highly about the “dirty hair growth” mess all I can think of is that is just like getting your nails done and not washing your hands until your next nail salon visit stop the madness I say A clean scalp is a healthy environment for hair growth.

Renee Broden: Protective styles and oils (ayurvedic) are staying with me. Without going into a lot of detail I will just say it's the method of care. Also, not everything works for every head of hair and scalp. We have to assess our heads and determine what's best. Hair is like a lifestyle and some lifestyles work great for some but some people have intolerances that suffer from following one way of thought/lifestyle. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jen. Enjoy your 2022! https://youtu.be/h8-0Rno3ZLI - Moisture and Moisturize retention https://youtu.be/F8GQR7IHDzo - Ayurvedic techniques for growth and thickness

Belinda Sanders: Thanks Jenn. I left all that stuff behind in mid-March when I started the 30 detox. I'm 60 and grew up with grease. I was using light oil prior to detoxing. Since detoxing, I produce enough sebum to share with a couple of people . Thanks for introducing me to the Maui moisture light weight curls products.

AWARD: Yes yes yes to everything in this video. I’ve been trying to slowly introduce all these concepts to my friends... slowly because I understand the intense chokehold they’re in. I currently have adopted all these habits and my hair is growing effortlessly. I am watching it grow effortlessly! Wash day routines are 2 hours max. As long as we keep up with our trims we’re on our way.

UniquelyJames: Happy New Year. And thanks for the frequent uploading. I've been down a lot the last couple of months and when I see your videos (especially the ones on mental health and therapy), all of them help me feel better. Keep doing your thing Jenn Jackson.

Ghost Writer: I agree with everything except for sleeping in the deep conditioner. I used to be against it until one time I was just too tired to wash it out and finish silk pressing my hair so I slept in it. When I finished my hair I got the best silk press OF MY LIFE! I was shook because I never thought it would make that much of a difference. It also stayed more moisturized throughout the week. I don’t sleep in it if I can help it but I do keep it in for as long as I can now. I always use an electric heat cap for 30 mins beforehand. I also try to use a hair mask without parabens, etc. now since I am leaving it on for longer. Sorry not sorry lol!

Cheshire Dj: I'm with you! Oiling my scalp never seemed to solve one problem. And avocados are too good to just put in your hair. But I still pre-poo , love my Negas Banda!

Maya: We should leave the term *protective style* in 2021 because if you wear your hair braided, in a weave or put it under a wig most of the year it should not be called protective styling. It’s your lifestyle. Same goes for wash and go, straight naturals, locs etc… They are a lifestyle. Just choose your hair routine and products accordingly.

Kaka Nwanekezie: Hi JennJ so, anyone that knows me would testify that I speak highly of you especially when it comes to natural hair because your more like my "hair role model" and prior to this "no butter no oil" routine, I've always followed your natural hair tips and they worked for me. I even had a big chop in July 2020 and I've seen so much progress using your previous routine so, Concerning protective styling, what advice would you give those of us the live in high temprate regions e.g. Nigeria. Secondly, what advice would you give those of us with short hair? It's very difficult to do protective styling with short natural hair(4c) P.S. my front hair is just a bit past my nose (1year and 6months old).

Sonia Nwachukwu: Totally experienced the oily scalp and dandruff this Christmas period, my scalp was so itchy even after washing and I was like really didn't understand what's was going on and why I was having dandruff, but you just clarified things for me, thank Jenn J

Shannon Michelle: Guilty of the protective styles‍♀️I just took my box braids out last weekend and I said I’m done with this style, it was everything you said dry, tangled, matted!!! It was a hot mess cause I go to long wearing them and do them back to back! So for 2022 no more protective styles and I’m focusing on keeping my hair hydrated

Ossie R: I’m with you on everything you mentioned, some I’ve done myself but I’m going into 2022 making my life simpler. Love your scarf

Paula Ragoopath: I agree with everything you listed. And I also did all of these. I've stopped with the braids, oiling my scalp, etc. Instead, I now twist my own hair, I spritz my scalp with water+acv+a few drops of essential oils like peppermint, rosemary and lavender (rather than putting them in carrier oils and slathering my scalp with it!) I deep condition for 10 minutes max while I shower after washing my hair, and I wash my hair every 2 weeks now (instead of one a month!) I'll see how my 3rd year being natural goes, please God.

Beverly James: I'm going to continue using my oils, I've been doing my GHE and it helped me a lot, just moisturize my hair with water, and my dry thyme and dry rosemary olive oil and my plastic cap and satin bonnet. I'm old school! So I'm not changing any of my regiment.

dibsimmons: My girl! Thanks for being you. You have been in the natural game for a minute and gained a vast amount of knowledge. Keep up the great work .

A Day in the Light: I don’t think it’s anything wrong with braids or wigs. You just have to go to someone you trust and wash your hair at least once every two weeks. Also spray your hair with conditioner and leave in no longer than 6 weeks to 8 weeks. If you so that your hair should be clean. I know the last time I did braids I had none of that build up. Now I don’t do braids etc all the time. I think this a fun way to change your hair. I am interested in seeing how long this oils and butters trend last. There are certain styles you can’t do as well without grease like cornrows, twists etc. It’s just smoother and sleeker.

Wendy Green: A few years ago, I actually had reduced the amount and type of oil/butter as well as frequency I was applying to my hair. I was afraid it and my scalp would become dry. My scalp was just fine. When my hair felt dry, I would occasionally go in with a bit more butter & re-braid until it was time to wash but it was fine. Now, I'll go in with a spritz of water because you've taught me it needs more moisture so thank you.

S Maxwell: Okay Jenn-J .. luv this video .. and you’re right we have to do what is best for us as individuals.. if people want to oil their scalp every day so be it or if they never oil their scalp that’s okay too .. I really like how you use your own examples to tell your story which may help someone else! I will always do what is best for me

Alisia Williams: Preach Jenn !!! I stopped sleeping in conditioners 8 years ago. Use it as directed. Period..a little longer is not bad , but don't over do it !! Too much of anything is not good for you.

TALITHA KUMI: We need to love our hair & not be obsessed by it. Healthy hair doesn't mean long hair. Natural hair doesn't mean curly hair. I usualy dont watch or subscribe to channels with this topic but you are so funny!

Naomi Omi: The DIY hair growth oil I abandonded months ago has become a lovely base for an after shower body oil :)

Marley Hill: My trichologist in 2019: No more long term protective styles. No more raw oils and butter. No more oiling my scalp. Weekly sulfate shampoo. Me in 2019: Me in 2022: . Lol!

Naomi Deckins: When she said, "Stop trying tomatoes at me", I screamed! Sis, your videos are everything; educative and funny! Keep it coming. Love ya!

Nhlanzeko Duma: Never used growth oils ... Only Shea butter. Interestingly enough, after I found your videos early last year. I found that my hair needed the switch-up. My hair is doing better with switching in between raw oils and non oils routines.

Michelle Evans: I’ve stopped putting oils in my hair recently and I’ve seen a huge difference. For years I put oils in my hair and it gave me dandruff or would take my hair out .

Huvie Joe: I agree with all that list!!! When I use to deep condition overnight my hair would feel so mushy!!!! Eversince, I stopped oiling my scalp and hair...My scalp stopped itching!!Dandruff used to be a huge problem now my scalp is so happy!!! Barely have any Dandruff. Im very happy with my hair I simplified my routine to the max

pelumi olajide: Wow this is so encouraging. It makes keeping natural hair wayyyyyyyyyyy less burdensome and wayyyyyyyyyyy more fun and enjoyable. Thanks for sharing. I have a question, I think I have dry scalp I don't oil my hair everyday because I forget but I was hoping to do better this year, now you're convincing me otherwise...what's your advice for people with dry scalp? (Cause sometimes it become really dry, itchy almost painful and the weather here is quite harsh) PS: I don't have dandruff....I've never seen it on my scalp.

Jae Maur: I’m proud to say I have never done any of these things. None of it made any sense to me especially protective styles. Like what are we protecting our hair from?

Dimensions by Gina: You have to do what is best for your hair and I think you found your routine. Natural haircare is about growth, research, and experiments. Ive been natural for about 15 years and I have don't everything.. I have done no oils/butters. I have done butters and oils. I have oiled my scalp daily sometimes twice day and I have gone months without oiling my scalp. And you know what my hair grew and I retained length..say what lol. For me the key issues are washing your hair on a regular basis as well as nutrition

Tracy Jackson Jackson: Very informative video. I never used any of these when I crafted my natural hair routine. Less is more. I have a very simple cost effective routine that is working wonders with my natural hair.

Nethania Pierre: Jennnnnn, I agree with you for the most part especially with the oils for me since they drove my scalp crazy with itchiness. Also can you please do reaction videos?? That would be awesome.

Yerlen Jonson: I agree with EVERYTHING! Since my routine is simple (shampoo, conditioner and leave in)...I stoped to watch every video that came about new hair products ect. Same about natural hair groups.

Anika. C: In 2020 i bought a camille rose oil to oil my scalp and i used it daily. After a while I noticed ny scalp was so itchy and irritated. Scratching my scalp actually started giving me scabs and it was like my scalp was on fire. I stupidly bought a mint oil because I figured it would be more soothing and I still had that irritated scalp. I bought ANOTHER oil because i was having the same issue until one day i stumbled upon a video of someone saying why they no longer use oils on their scalp. I tried it and noooooo itchy scalp. Rn I'm just trying for my scalp to heal from the trauma

Melvina G Davis: Great video Jen!!! You look fabulous and I'm going to rock that hair and scarf style (do more please). Thank you

Juanita Robertson: When you know better you do better!!! Love your videos.

Chromagens: Also I realised I was confused re protective styles as category. I considered it to be stuff where your hair is hidden like wigs, weaves, crochet, braids with synthetic hair over a longer term. Having my own hair twisted up feels like wearing my hair "out" even if it's not a twist out. Then I wear that style until I next wash my hair.

Tyasiaaaa ❤️: I think all Jenn described was basically Less is more which in my personal experience is true and my bank account has appreciated it. My hair wants to be left tf alone and cared for occasionally lol I felt some kinda way in the beginning ngl but I agree, the natural hair community does way too much- see if all of that is necessary first, if it is cool, If not, appreciate that and keep it moving.

Deja Levette: I just think moderation is key with anything and your hair will thank you

Maria Wade: definitely enjoyed this video, we dont need the food and all the extras on our hair. simple routine tht works with products tht are beneficial. keep it simple and sweet and be patient. hair grows regardless. i agree 100.

Darla B: Great video! Regarding deep conditioner my hairdresser always said follow the directions! He is right.

Just K: You can always decide what's best for you. Some of this I agree with and some not so much but do you! Some DIYs are not dangerous, so doing or not doing them is just personal preference. I like 'em sometimes. Herbs in oils applied can be effective. But dirty hair doesn't grow better and leaving protective styles in forever can be dangerous. Creative vid!

jessi7213: Hi Jenn I know you’ve been using the Maui Moisture, I’m looking into it but I’m having a hard time deciding which shampoo/conditionner I want to buy. Which one you prefer and for what reason. I have 4c hair and I’m mostly looking for a good clean and hydration. Thank u so much. I’ve really learn a lot watching u those last couple of months. Because of u I started in July the no oils and butter and my scalp been loving it. There’s no going back for sure. -Jess. Love from Montréal.

DaisiesandPandas: my own addition will be, We should leave calling hairstyles that have existed for thousands of years in African culture "protective" or "low manipulation", we wore those same styles when we were all stuck at shoulder length, we wore them when we broke the plateaus. A style is not protective until on you PERSONALLY observe your hair thriving. Prenaming it is making people overestimate how safe these styles are.

Ashley Wilson-Bell: So I’m at the beginning of my lox journey and I can’t understand how people expect you to put oil on your scalp everyday but only wash every month. Like you said that’s a lot of oil! I want to learn how to properly take care of my newly locked hair. Any tips?

Shenita Lobley: Love your videos as always. One ☺️ I think oils are ok for certain styles and of course in moderation as long as you clarify your hair. You look amazing and I can’t wait for your next video.

Quelsplace: Hair grows best when you leave it alone, so I THINK that's why a lot of people say their hair grows when dirty because they are not manipulated their hair as often. I for one used to go super long periods of time between shampoo days when I had a relaxer. In my natural state I can go 2-3 weeks without shampooing and my scalp is fine. No itching, no dandruff ‍♀️

Juju Bella: 100% agree with ditching oiling our scalp. Ever since I was little, I was taught I need to oil my scalp and as a result I believe this is why I’ve suffered with dandruff for most of my life. I remember there was a point I would wash my hair then oil my scalp with shea butter and by the next day, my scalp felt soo itchy and dirty. From that point, I decided to ditch the oiling my scalp. Instead, I use a few drops of essential oils such peppermint and lemongrass and dilute it in water in a spray bottle, then spray that on my scalp. My scalp has been thriving ever since!

marian B: It is nice to admit to our own misfortunes. Never have I ever slept in DC's, but I have put on avocado that oxidized, and it gave me palpitations...Wow!! I don't do 50-75% of what youtuber's do because then they come back and make videos like these...but TFS. You're funny as usual... "Stop throwing Tomatoes at me"! What I will continue to do is adding an oil to my DC. I have not been oiling up my scalp regularly anyway, BEFORE you started your no oil thing, and I like it.

Nykicia Jefferson: I was sleeping in my deep conditioner honestly because I’m just lazy I knew once I rinsed it out I had to detangle moisturize and at least do some chunky twists/braids. I don’t anymore!!

Let'sChopItUp: I don't use anything with coconut in my hair. I don't trim my ends every 6 months. I don't wash and deep condition every week or every two weeks I actually only do that about every 3 months. That's what works for my hair I keep my hair in a protective style for a month to 2 months that's what I found help keep hair retention and keep my hair moisturized and healthy once I started doing that my hair continue to keep getting longer and longer. And I very rarely use a comb or brush on my hair. Hair grows from within as well and we have to learn how to keep our hair retention. I didn't know how to keep my hair retention and I will cause breakage by the way I will handle my hair with brushes and combs once I learned that it was all smooth sailing. And I've done the avocado mask as well I had tiny avocado particles all through my hair for a long time and all I could do was worry about the avocado spoiling and my hair possibly causing mold.

PrettyMarie.: I went from oiling my scalp everyday to once a week and deep conditioning so my hair isn’t oily like it was 6 months ago

Nathalie Thomas: Agreed especially with the deep conditioner. Follow the instructions on the container. That's it.

Malo Musende: After my mom stopped taking my hair (oiling scalp too), my scalp was constantly itchy from dry scalp and it wasn't until years later when I started taking care of my hair and went back to oil did it subside. I used to wash my hair with a gentle sulphate free moisturizing shampoos and the next day my scalp would itch and flake (I get if from my dad). But with oils it won't itch until a week or so later. Also I think its all about people abusing protective styles too, abandoning your hair in any state will give you those results, them being too tight is also no bueno and too much of anything is a bad thing. YALL WHY BACK TO BACK?? lol like the video though, I feel the same way about most. Love to see an Ottawa youtuber here on youtube!

Ms. Mi Witdatbul: I use to wear weaves my edges were trash, then I tried clip ins, they were pulling my hair out. So then I stopped the clip ins, which led me to wear buns however I started using oils and creams deep conditioners with fenugreek, chebe powders. Now my hair has grown down my back. It’s even longer than my weave and clip -ins. I was even surprised I love having my family members (not strangers) check to see if it’s real.

Darrin: I'm keeping my oils. I'm going to keep deep conditioning overnight. I'm not going fight no one about it. I like doing it and that's that.

Rhonda Denis: I hardly ever deep condition. I wash condition and style. That’s it. Life simply and easy and my hair is thriving.

Chaniece Moryah: Love the video! What healthy protective styles would you suggest for natural hair?

Jeannine Gorden: I hope you ready to tussle Jen! The I take everything personal gurls are coming for you!

Travel Girl: Majority of the super long, mid back to waist length haired black women on Youtube use and have been using hair oils, growth oils and all kinds of growth/treatment mixes for years. Those receipts don't lie.

Jermaine Au Natural: Not leaving braids in for months on end...yikes!! I thought hair growth oil was fix for everything? lol Thats what they say. lmbo This was a fun violence video lol

Apara: I love your scarfs!!! Can you do a video one day on different ways you tie them, please ??? I SUCK at doing that, and you always tie them so nicely ❤.

lovelygirl1975: Keep telling the truth girl! And you look fantastic!

hallily: No cap. She told not one lie. I also came to a similar realization.

Maame Cerwah: You said it all Jenn!

Emelda Njiki: Thank you and I will surely be eating all my fruits and not slapping them on my hair

Ann Mwangi: hey JENN love your videos so much ,,i would like to ask whats the best cure for dry fleaky scalp ?

Tina ATruWarrior: I slept with my deep conditioner in my hair & woke up & my hair was hard after I washed it out & had to rewash it to get the soft & moisturized

M: There’s a difference between oiling your scalp and oiling your hair. I oil my hair from mid half way to the tip(ends) and leave the scalp alone because obviously there is sebum and it does flow through the hair, it just doesn’t get to ends for us with 4c hair. That’s the correct way to oil your hair and it does its job better as a lubricant and as a friction preventer which stop split ends from happening. Conditioners and all other hair products you use should be applied on your hair without touching your scalp, or with as minimal touch your scalp as possible because of the oils she mentioned. The only product you should be using on your scalp is a shampoo! She’s right about a couple things, DONT OIL YOUR SCALP and Use oils in absolute moderation But she’s also wrong, PLEASE OIL YOUR Hair, especially the ends! There’s way too many research out there that proves it works. She’s also right about tension and tight braids; it does more Damage than good. We’ve done research research on this in my university on 4C hair. It is true, do minimal protective styles with less tension and see your hair blossom. Thank you and hopes this helps someone out there. One love.

Jenna Hilton: This is the first time I’m watching your videos, so this is interesting. I think that while you made good points in your video, your sarcastic delivery of it can make people defensive. I know I was at first. This is especially since you said that “we” need to leave this in 2021. If this were titled “things I am leaving behind in 2021” it would be a different story. It seems like you’re an informed and entertaining creator, just not for everybody (and truth be told no one is for everyone). But here’s what I think about with the points of the video: When you said that “protective styles” needed to be left on the past, I was about to bring up the hypocrisy because you were actively wearing a protective style by keeping it in a scarf. But then you explained that you meant things like braids with synthetic hair and styles that pull at your scalp. That makes sense. With the hair growth oils…the only problem I’ve seen with it is the sensationalizing of certain ingredients in the oils. For example, people swear by things like garlic, romemary, mint, or fenugreek as if it’s a magical gift from God that will make your hair grow overnight. In reality it’s not, but they have properties that can help with your hair goals. There’s nothing wrong with using them and they don’t hurt anything, but don’t treat it like a magic potion. “Dirty hair grows faster”? Yeah I’ve never heard of this and it just sounds wrong. Sleeping in deep conditioners. I’m with you on this one. I would actually think that this may be damaging to the scalp because of all the water that’s against the skin for long periods of time. The fruit masks…I’m neutral. I’ve never tried it, but you make a solid point about it being better to eat the food than just putting it in your hair. Some people probably do both. All power to them. I know I make my own hair products that have worked really well for me, but they don’t use fruits or vegetables. Ayurvedic herbs like henna and amla have been great. If people want to use fruits and veggies, fine. If they don’t fine. It doesn’t hurt anything like the tight and drying protective styles can. Over-Oiling the scalp. Yes that can be a problem. Agree with what you said about that for sure. Yes use oil, but not so much it’s running down your face and neck. Balance is key.

Mags: I like protective styles but I feel like people need to use them correctly! And I'm guilty of this but throwing some braids in your hair and leaving it in for 3 months is not helping. I didn't start seeing results until I started caring for my hair. I still wash my hair in braids and still make sure to moisturize it. And making sure to take the style out when its done!

nicole fletcher: Lol!!! I’m just now seeing this…. and yes, I did subscribed. I agree with you except for the oiling your scalp….. I’ma keep that one. But the rest, I stopped doing those back in 2020! I kept the oils though. Thank you though, appreciate it.

Lilly-May Rose: What is your opinion on derma rolling for this with thining edges. Do you think it's pointless with regard to stimulating hair growth. I'm curious to know your opinion on it.

victoria king: I know for a fact that oils work because I have given my hair the same care but with different products and have finally found some products that have made my hair grow in spots I never thought I'd see hair again so that's an opinion. Maybe oils didn't work for her, but they do work. Try things for yourself and not go by what didn't work for the last person that tried it.

Tra'C: Enjoyed this, no lies told

eems: I love "it's ya gurrlll ayyye ayyyyye, it's ya gurrrlll" I feel cheated when she shortens It. *edit* yoooo this video is hilarious I had to rewind multiple times

1king2queens: Detangling wet hair, is a definite no no. Hair is stronger when it's dry. I now use oil to detangle my hair, then wash it. On another note, I could never understand perfectly ripe fruit being used on hair.

Kasual Kool: 2:18 Girl is spiting FACTS. I was just talking about that with my mommy

Keisha: Ugh yes when I was growing my relaxer out back in 2001 I would where cornrows and microbraids. I was transitioning. Not sure I'd label what I was dping as protection styling but I just didnt know what do do with it in the tradition stage. So I got braids. Micros were falling out on my trip to Florida. Cornrows took my edges out. They are still thin. After that I was like no ma'am! I never got braids or cornrows again. I am still suffering from that time. But I press on!

jessie dupins: Girl please! I wash mine every 2wks. I take biotin and oil my scalp with a good/oil or leave in conditioners. I braid my locs to protect them. I'm 63 with lots past my butt. No tightly/coiled should be washed daily. Use a deep conditioner for an hour every 2 weeks.

1GoldenBreeze: I thought you had me with protective styles, but then I realized you were not talking about leaving twists in for a week and then taking them down and shampooing. I'm in the oily scalp crew so I've never oiled my scalp, and the rest of these are not hair care routines that I ever picked up.

Neosoul_prima: I personally agree with all of these things! And that’s final

Pamela: You are just as cute as can be. Keep doing your thing!

WLC: I think these would go a long way if you cited the licensed and experienced experts you get this info from, because you're an influencer not a hair professional

Kaka Nwanekezie: I feel so emotional right now. This means no more '30daysprotectivestylechallenge' with you.

Abigail Myrie: True Talk ☝ Too funny JennJenn soo entertaining. This video should be on the telly!

VJ: Great advice

whatddaheck: Can you explain why you don't recommend foods in your hair? I have been doing an avocado mask with honey and it seems to strengthen my hair a lot..

Paulette Moore: No more overnight deep conditioning? Pillows and pillowcases are applauding!

Izetta Montgomery: How often should we oil the scalp?

Stacie Smith: Loved this video!

Brittany Edeh: gurrrrrllllllllllll lemme tell youuu….that deep conditioner will be on for longer than 30 minutes in this household!! that’s the time I use for get some work done.

canada7082: Not gone lie…I sleep in deep conditioner because after pre detangling, shampooing , DETANGLING, and deep conditioning …My shoulders are too tired to finish the styling process . So I’ll put that deep conditioner in, tie on my plastic bag, and finish the next morning. I know it’s NOT necessary. I just be tired

Jacque Hanna: Jen, you mentioned that our scalp is a continuation of our skin. Yet you put moisturizer, oils and lotion/butters on your body/skin. Why is it not beneficial to do the same with hair/scalp? Enjoy your channel.

Cynthia Shitsukane: I thought the "dirty hair grows first" statement was only in my African country, Kenya alone.

Joy Banks: Your face is so beautiful, you could be bald and still look stunning!

Ogbozor Chy: I am definitely leaving fruit salad recipe in 2021 After my experience with banana mask in December I had chunks of banana in my hair for weeks

RBG Sista: I agree with all this!
