Hey guys welcome back to my channel, my name is vinita if you're new here and if you're not thank you for continuing to support my content. I really appreciate you guys. I was doing my hair getting ready for a video actually a different video from this one, and i thought you know what that i'm really enjoying my hair i've. I'Ve really been enjoying my hair out in the past year or so now, and when i say that i mean that before i felt like my hair was a burden. You know you hear a lot of black women say that you know. Oh my hair's just too much to take care of it's just so much and i get it, but i realized the reason why i felt like my hair was such a burden before and like wash day was so dreaded was because i was doing too much and I wasn't even getting the results that i should have been getting my routine and just my whole approach to my hair. My whole mindset towards my hair now is so different that it's crazy and it's so simplified and i'm seeing the results that i want to receive in my hair and i'm really not doing it much, and so i just thought. Let me come here and let you guys know three things that i personally feel like. You should stop doing right to achieve the healthy, thick natural hair that you desire. The first tip i have for you is to start unlearning and just tapping out of a lot of natural hair trends. So i was about 14 in year 9 in secondary school, and that is when i really started to tap into my natural hair. Like my mom's always taking care of my hair, kept it healthy, etc. But this is when i started to really take ownership of my own hair routine and really learn for myself about natural hair, and i had a friend who was really like. She had cut off all her perm and was like basically, she did a big chop and she was starting again, and so she was telling me all this stuff that she was seeing on youtube and i just like to get really interested in. Basically, this whole natural hair community on youtube, and that is also why one of the reasons why i even started my channel in day-to-day life. I would get a lot of questions from people about my hair, and so that's part of the reason why i even came to youtube. However, with that, with that whole natural hair wave right that happened in those around that year or those years, there was a lot of just extra stuff like it felt like you had to use all these products, it felt like you had to do all of these Diy kitchen treatments to your hair and it just became a lot right, and so for me, my hair, you know i liked trying things out and it was fun for a bit over time. I felt like i had to keep up with things i had to keep up with this extensive natural hair routine, that a lot of these natural hair gurus were telling me about. And personally, if you watch any of my hair videos, you guys know i'm very low maintenance. I am a lazy natural. That is why i am i'm a lazy, i'm lazy. When it comes to my hair, i'm very low maintenance. I don't like high maintenance routines. I am not going to keep keep up with them and i just care about the health of my hair. I don't really care about the length really, even though personally for me, i feel like for my face shape and for just my aesthetic personally, the longer the hair probably would be the better in terms of what i like, but i'm not like fixated on that. I'M fine, i trim my ends regularly. I'M fine with a haircut! It'S not that deep to me to me it's about the thickness and the health of my hair right, so yeah a lot of these trends right stuff. Even more recently, i've been seeing like the rice water trend, the aloe vera trend in the past couple years, um just all of these trends that bentonite clay mask all these things, i'm sure really help your hair. However, to me, they just feel unnecessary. There'S a reason why there are so many products there are so many hair treatments that you can use. So for me, i started to unlearn and just remove myself from a lot of the natural hair trends that were kind of being pushed, and i just said to myself what works for me and what works for my hair and i started to realize. I didn't need to do all of these diy treatments to my hair. I didn't need to use all of these products in my hair and have this like 10 step hair routine, and my hair does not need to take all day either. That'S one thing that i've only just mastered since having my baby, my hair, my wash day is no longer a wash day. My wash day is like four hours now like tops, and that's it because i don't have the time and also, if i see washing my hair as such a burden to wear like i have to cancel everything like. I can't go out for that whole day. I just think that's a burden. Personally, i feel like it's a burden. I know that's a lot of people's reality, but i don't think it needs to be a reality and bear in mind my wash day can be say four hours right, but i don't even blow dry, my hair. So i actually let my hair air dry and there have been times when i've washed my hair in the morning and i've still gone out in the afternoon or evening, and i've had my hair, like you know, out it's not been in plaits or any or braids Or anything like that, and that was something i never would have been able to do before if i'd continued with my whole mindset when it came to how i pushed my hair, so i'm learning a lot of natural hair trends and simplifying my routine finding what works For me really helped me, my routine is literally pre-poo with coconut oil to get rid of any gel or dirt, etc. In my scalp and my hair shampoo there's a shampoo that i've really been loving from pantene i'm gon na put on the screen. I really like this shampoo, it's really good, then i deep condition every single wash day i wash my hair every two weeks. I deep condition with a protein treatment or a moisturizing treatment so that i always deep condition. Deep conditioning is key. If you want healthy hair um, then i obviously wash that out. I put some almond oil in my hair. Let that sit for about 20 minutes not too much just enough to like kind of coat the hair a bit, and then i go in with my moisturizing cream from cream of nature. I love it. I buy i'm probably on my like eighth bottle. I love it. It gives me enough slip and enough moisture. It helps seal in that almond oil as well. I detangle and then after i've, like basically detangled my hair and like braided it up put into like big plaques. I then check my ends and if there's any trimming that needs to be done, i go ahead and do that. A couple days ago i actually cut about an inch of my hair, because i had like a lot of single strand knots at the very end. I know that you should probably shouldn't trim your hair at home, but i've been doing it since 2020 when we have locked down - and i just find that that works for me - if you can go to a professional to do it um. But for me just for maintenance, i just trim my ends whenever every wash day. I look at my ends and i trim them if it if it needs to be done and so yeah. That'S what i do if you want to go to hairdresser, go to hairdresser, and i probably will you know, but i just i personally, i don't mind trimming my ends at home. So just make sure you've got the right. Hair scissors don't use normal scissors use, hair shearers, get them on amazon, i'll link, the one that i have down below and yeah just do it the right way don't like take shortcuts when it comes to trimming your hair, otherwise you can actually cause more damage. Um long term, so yeah, that's literally what i do. I don't do any diy masks. So i don't. I just don't do all of this stuff that a lot of people are doing and i get it if it works for you. It works for you, but make sure that whatever you decide to do with your hair fits into your routine, because the thing about getting healthy, hair right is consistency. If you can't be consistent with your routine, then if there's no point, there's no point even trying to do with extra stuff. So for me, knowing that i'm low maintenance for me, knowing that i am a lazy lazy when it comes to my hair being consistent every two weeks with a wash day, making sure that my moisture, you know my moisturizing routine, is um down is foolproof enough to Last my hair for about seven days before i have to like refresh it. That is what works for me. My second tip is to stop comparing your hair to other people. Stop wishing that your hair was as long or as curly or whatever it is. That'S in your hair, your head about your hair: stop comparing your hair to other people, even if you have, for example, a sibling like your sister right and you both have the same hair type. Obviously you're from the same parents. You'Ve got like very similar genetics right. If, if your sister's hair is like down on her back and whatever in your hair, is like just like shoulder length, don't compare your hair to your sister. Just look at your hair look and see if your hair is healthy. If there is anything that you're doing to stop yourself from you know achieving the desired, you know thickness and length. If you want um, then you know look into that. Look into that, but the more you compare your hair to. Why isn't my hair growing as quick as this person? Why isn't it everyone's genetics are different, even if you are related and also um. Your diet also plays what you eat if you're drinking enough water, if you're eating enough fruits and vegetables, if you eat enough healthy fats like omega-3 and stuff like that fish. All of that plays into the health of your hair, so you can't you. It doesn't make sense to compare your hair to a friend or someone around you, because you're not the same person, so make sure that you start to focus on yourself on your hair. One way that i started doing that is, i actually stopped watching natural hair videos. I went through a time like i'm sure most of us where i was watching a ton of natural hair content, and now i don't watch any natural hair content at all, because i realize i don't need to know how you take care of your hair. I know my hair well enough now to know how it needs to be taken care of, and i felt like. Sometimes i was watching those videos i'm like. I really wish my hair was as long as hairs, or i really wish my hair was this whatever right and it just was very, not productive. It was unproductive. So, comparing yourself to someone else, comparing your head, someone else is not going to help you get to the goal you want. If anything, it actually might discourage you and you might just end up just chopping off your hair or perming it or whatever. It is because you're just like you know what i obviously my hair can't do, that my hair, you know is import. It'S not capable of that when your hair is it's just that your hair maybe responds in different ways to someone else's hair, protect your hair, protect your hair and i'm not talking about protective styling, because i think that's a. I think. That'S really a really big idea. That'S been pushed in the natural hair community that you need to keep your hair a protective style like braids, wigs or whatever right mini twists, um to make sure that it's healthy and make sure that it's growing. I don't think that's true. I actually do not see my hair grow as quickly really anymore, with protective styles than i do when i just have it out, i'm wearing it out and i'm just taking care of it. You know every two weeks and trimming it and all of that, because when you have protective styles, you can't see stuff like your ends, you can't see stuff like you just you're, not really you can actually damage your hair. The longer you leave your hair in a protective style like, for example, braids. Let'S say that right or mini twists, your hair can actually start to dread up and just like, you can actually lose more hair with a protective style that, if you were just taking care of it, if it was just out right, so protect your hair. When i say protect your hair, i'm not saying go and get braids. Braids are a good break for your hair, but i would not recommend getting braids back to back, because that can actually affect your edges. You can lose your edges that way. If you have lost your edges, i actually have a video on how i got my edges back because i did lose my edges due to postpartum shedding and i got them back quicker than i probably would have. If i just like kept doing what i was doing so if you're interested in that check the cards above, i will link it there, so you can go and have a look. So when i say protecting your hair, i mean stuff, like don't: wear your hair out. All the time, so as much as i love my hair like this, anyone who knows me will tell you they never really. They never see me with my hair like this. Never i never wear my hair out and it's because, even though it looks nice out, i know that my ends are way more likely to get dry, i'm way more likely to get spray and split ends because of where i live. I live in the uk. The uk is very gloomy. It'S very wet. It'S very. The sun doesn't shine all the time like it's very cold, sometimes even in the summer. The summer, the weather is not consistent. So because i'm aware of the like dampness as well in the air in this country, if i wear my hair out all the time, my hair is always going to be dry, and i know that for fact, because when i was uh 18 19, i remember i Was wearing my hair a lot? This is when i just first started youtube right and i was wearing my hair out a lot and i had a lot of split ends because my hair was just dry like it just was dry. So i don't wear my hair out, i'm not saying i never will um and maybe i should start wearing it out more, but for me wearing my hair out, equals dry hair and dry hair equals breakage. So for me, protecting my hair looks like putting it and putting it into like a bun or putting it back into like a puff like a slick back puff, or you know, on top of my head, like a pineapple, puff, also keeping my hair off of my Shoulders helps to reduce friction from like the clothes i wear i wear most of my clothes are cotton right. Cotton is great for your skin, but it's not great for your the moisture moisture in your hair. Cotton will dry out your the ends of your hair. So imagine if i went for the rest of the week of my hair out right and i continued to wear my cotton clothes, which i would and these, like. All of my ends. Right now are like literally going to be rubbing rubbing rubbing against material and that can cause very dry ends and very split ends very quickly. So for me i keep my hair off of my shoulders. Like i don't have my hair out, i don't have it down. I do styles where it's it's up and it's out of the way of any possible friction. I also sleep with a satin pillowcase. If i don't have one on, i always sleep with a satin head scarf that just helps reduce friction. I don't go to sleep anymore. Even if i put in a pineapple, i don't go to sleep, my hair out anymore. I used to like put a hairband and put my hands with my head and go to sleep. I put a head scarf on a good sleeve. I don't do it anymore. I now just put my hair into two big plaits, two big braids right. I look like a five-year-old and i put my hair off when i go to sleep. That really helps me protect my hair, keep and also keep the moisture locked into my hair when you braid your hair at night. Instead of leaving it out, it helps keep the moisture in your hair and also protect your ends, because your hair is all like tucked away. So that's what i mean when i say protecting your hair, i don't mean where do braids back-to-back do wigs back to back. I don't think you should. I think you should let your your scalp breathe and i do think you should let your hair, you know, breathe naturally and just be out sometimes um. So yeah, that's what i mean when i say protecting my hair. I hope that these tips have helped you guys. I hope that i've made sense, and i hope i haven't missed anything out if i have i'll leave it down below in the comments and like pin it. If you feel like there's any advice that you want to give when it comes to, you know things that you feel like someone should stop to make sure they have a successful journey with their natural hair. Comment that comment that down below. I would really be interested in myself too. Let me know if you guys have found these tips useful, and i will see you guys in my next video bye

Nathalie Thomas: Good content. My sentiments exactly. People need to recognize that most "natural hair influencers" are really just making content in order to make money and in the process making things more difficult especially for individuals who are not feeling securev about their natural hair.

Justine Jones: I love that you've taken the lead in stopping the "madness" of following all the natural hair trends. I've felt overwhelmed with all the information, experiences and perspectives, and feel like it's time to dial it back, take a minimalist approach by going back to the basics, and focus on being consistent. Thank you for the courage to do what's best for you, even if it goes against the trends. I don't believe we need to spend all day or weekend on our hair. We've overcomplicated the process, which makes it additionally frustrating and confusing. BTW, I wouldn't describe what you're doing as "lazy," I'd simply say you're a minimalist, which is enough for most of us, honestly. Thanks, sis.

CurlyNella1011: I definitely agree with all those steps and people wonder why they hate doing their hair. Doing my hair is therapeutic and I look forward to it weekly. I don’t pre poo, I wash in one, I wash the length of my hair, I don’t section until I apply my deep conditioner or hair mask, I only deep condition for 20 minutes, rinse out and apply leave in and styler. The styling is what takes me time because I’m gentle to my hair and careful not to break it. But some people say the extra steps help but it’s because they go so long without washing and that shedded hair gets trapped into the hair causing knots and tangles.

Latausha_the_Author: I don’t think they are unnecessary. For example the Indian clay brought my curls back. Herbs made my hair stronger. I feel they all work. Some people just need to find what they like or what works and stick with it. Don’t change up because you watched a video. I can do all that in 1 hr.

Real Talk: I think its a bit unfair to dismiss natural hair bloggers about educating ppl and making money out of it. I was completely ignorant about looking after my afro hair. My hair was sooo damaged through lack of care and attention, plus a busy lifestyle. I can honestly say that some of these natural hair videos have really helped me understand how to take care of my beautiful, versatile afro hair. For me, black haircare is like an Art and a Science and thanks to a lot of these hairtubers, my hair is flourishing and I'm in love with it. And why not make money from it? Millions of ppl are making money on YouTube!! This is the sign of the times!!

Weird Myst: I was thinking of changing my regimen and staying away from heat. Watching those videos made me terrified of heat, but I wanted to. Without heat protection, and with High Porosity hair, I can wash monthly and blowdry it and be fine. Just as it was when I was a child. And I really like it especially since I can care for my own hair.

Latausha_the_Author: I’m grateful that people take the time to do these videos like yourself. I would have never knew about Amla, henna, or anything if it wasn’t for YouTube. People don’t want to take care of themselves. They don’t even care about their hair. So if I can go online to get information, I’m grateful.

BanjoeFlair: Thank you for reinforcing these points. Sadly the public have taken YouTubers as ‘experts’ and they are not. Many times a lot of them have categorically said it that they are simply sharing what works for ‘them’. It is our responsibility to pick and choose what works for us and do that.

katduchess Airhead: Good on you, I have been hollering from the roof top about these natural hair youtubers. You do what your hair likes, all I do is wash, deep condition, leave in/oil maybe butter and that's it. I wash my whole head not just my scalp and trim. These youtubers make up all these contraptions, thing is everyone hair is different along with growth, plus it's all in the genes, my hair is tailbone length. What's good for you may not be good for someone else. Good on you sis!!

Rayherway : I really appreciate this video. These comments are well on point with the natural community. Do what you feel you need for YOUR hair. Some people don't care for other things in life the way they put so much emphasis on hair care. So yessss- just live, it's just hair after all.

mamoyoT: Listen y'all. I agree. I think most YouTubers actually don't tell the truth! I stopped following a lot of their routines. I went back to my old African routine. I use grease, I wash my hair every 48 hours (in Africa way back in the day we washed our hair x2 a day and it GREEEEEWWWW). I don't have a wash day. I just wash my hair. I have not trimmed my hair since 2018. I am not scared of putting protein on my hair. My hair profile 4C, HP, HD.

marciaphillip: I totally agree! Your hair looks fantastically healthy and thick

NumberPurple: I agree, No two heads of hair are the same. What someone enjoys doing the next person may dislike. Doing what is best for you and your lifestyle is key. Your hair is beautiful and skin is on GLOW! Peace and blessings to you!

Mmajwalane Tladi: I agree. Some videos were promising quick results and got me desperate for fast hair growth. My hair broke a lot of times with trying each and every remedy that promised fast results. I did the same thing as you. I stopped following each and every remedy I came across and my hair is now growing very strong. However, I would like to highlight that I learned a lot about natural hair products, herbs and care through those many videos (bloggers) I saw and through the mistakes I made with my hair.

Mohammed Khadijah: You are so right. We just need to know your own hair that is all .

Kdloves.24: Preach sis! What you said about protective styles is so true!! Ive done braids etc and thought i was helping my hair…i was hurting it.

p: I never followed trends .I just listened to my hair always .I saw in Africa hair which flourish don't do much .just at kids routine and look at their hair just keep them moisturised clean and leave it alone .the less is the more.your is thick and long and the thickness suits your face .perfection. 4 hours wash day ? You still doing too much .my grandma had african 4c hair waist length her nickname was mermaid .she never spent over 30 minutes in the shower protective styles are protective especially for 4c hair .however it become destructive when too tight .kept too long or not well done (technic) and not all protective styles don't work for everyone .protective styles grow hair if you only use your hair and you do it right !.even 2 cornrows is protective style and you do the right thing not leaving your hair all the time this is the original style we are talking about afro hair ends need to stay in style to stay moisturised if you want to retain lenght

MissMargaret: I think all of the extra steps and extra products make the next wash day super hard. I try to keep things as simple as possible because I have chronic pain and fatigue and I can either cut my hair short again, or keep things less complicated.

Meek Meek: Exactly. Do what's best for you. Don't need to follow trends. Water your own grass

Weird Myst: It takes 20 minutes max to wash and condition my hair. People go under dryers and prepoo and take 4 hours on their hair before the style. None of that worked for me. Now, I try what I want and be mindful that I can cut it if I want, it's not that deep. (Been wanting to dye it blue and purple but I have HP hair)

CJ: 3 things I so relate to: low maintenance, consistency, and the over hype about protective styling. Also, your hair and skin are beautiful!

Rachel Nicole: Only few new things I learned in the past few years that really helps was using oils, hair masks, and invest in different brushes

Sandra Johnson Brown: I am a lazy hair person too. I wash and condition my natural hair in 10 minutes and my hair is shoulder length and look good. I watch the hair videos sometimes but just do my own thing. From the UK

LuxurCr3 Tv: That’s the same point I’m at yeah they work for me but I’m over doing them over n over n over n then my hair seems to grow more when I leave it alone so I’m finishing my last treatments then I’m back to not doing anything to it I love my big chops n shave offs but I’m focusing on growing my hair back long healthy and full idc about the trends or other ppl results anymore just my own journey

Claudia Okyere-Fosu: Hey Vernita I enjoyed this video I’m a lazy natural too

Viona Chep: I really needed this, Thank you. Your hair is beautiful

Barnes247: Awesome video. You should look into Black Girl Curls. It use to take me all day to wash my hair and now it takes me 45 minutes to an hour! Talk about a regimen that’s become so simplified!!! It’s freedom!

queen: My wash day is like 1h30. I don't blow dry either

byarugaba mariam kelisha: ended up giggling when You spoke about" Comparing your Hair to your sister ",thats a habit i have Thanks for commenting about this myth of Protective styling

M. Diane Julie Benton: Your hair looks healthy and beautiful. Your skin is glowing which is connected to healthy scalp.

Williams J: Video very useful. Great points

felicia johnson: You are absolutely stunning

Sandra Fortune: Greetings...thanks so much for sharing these tips...much appreciated

Ursula waye: What is your lip combo? Very pretty.

Abby: I'm mad I spent money on henna cuz I'm too lazy to even do it now lol but I'll finish it and just not buy it again

👑Life With Alli Daily💜: Great Vid Sis. #LifeWithAlliDaily

Mercy Blackstarr: Thank you

K D: You are beautiful!

Mel Any: You're so beautiful
