There's been a wave of celebrities going red lately — SIenna Miller and Rachel McAdams to name a few — sparking a red frenzy at the salon. While these ladies make it look effortless, we all know it seems a lot harder to pull off red than other shades. But it doesn't have to be!

Tara Carlson, color expert at Byron Salon in Beverly Hills, breaks down what shade of red each of us should strive for, depending on our skin tone, and offers up a easy DIY to keep your red looking vibrant — even after you leave the salon.

Hey it's Kirby, I'm here at Byron Williams, salon in Beverly Hills where celebrities like Ava, Mendez and Kate Bosworth come. We are talking to Tara, Carlson expert colorist on the right way to go, read! Okay, so I am so excited because sophie is actually going from blonde to a siren red which is going to look gorgeous on her, but why is red so popular right now? In Hollywood? It'S a little vintage. It reminds us of old Hollywood glam, a lot of red-haired characters in Hollywood are strong, sexy, independent women and we like to feel like we're, making a statement and Red's easy way to do it. So when you go red you really have to commit to this. Color is there anyone in particular that you think should stay away from red? No, I don't think so. I don't think there's a particular skin tone that you have to be. I just think you really need to pay attention to your undertones. You have a warm peachy gold undertone. You want to have a warm gingery, tangerine red versus a cool undertone. You want to have more of a cinnamon or more of a you know, a mahogany or cherry red, okay, so you're going to the flan to go red. What are some things to consider before you go in? You definitely want to bring your colors a photograph, there's too many different shades of red. You also need to take into consideration your eyebrow color, going to make sure that your eyebrows are the same tone as your hair. You are such a babe with red hair. This is a complete transformation, loving it now. What does she need to know when she goes home and she still wants to keep the vibrancy up with her red? You know just the basics. You want to steer clear of shampoos with sulfates, try to wash your hair less. If you can and just know, you're going to want to pop back in the salon for a gloss to upkeep the freshness and the vibrancy of your red, okay, so now we're at home. Are there any tricks to the trade into maintaining this red color? You know a great secret is, after you, shampoo, maybe once a week mixed, two parts, water, one part white, distilled vinegar, give your hair really nice rinse and then condition as normal. Your hair will be shiny and that red will really stay strong Tara thanks. So much for teaching us the right way to go red unless Sophie now do you have any parting tips for anyone who is considering a big change, I say: do it chest, hair

Melody: I like this video because the model wasn't made to look worse in the "before stage" to help amplify the drama of her hair color change. She still had her hair styled, make-up done, & was placed in the same good lighting. All that being said, she looks spectacular as a red head! I'm kind of crushing on her now lol. That color is gorgeous!!! :)

Chloe Gillian: Sophie looks amazing with red hair! I naturally have red hair, and can tell when someone has had their hair dyed red, but it looked so natural on her! :)

Camellia Manning: That red is so perfect on her,she actually looks younger

MPM: She actually looks much better as a redhead, tbh!

Amy Munkh: Sophie looks absolutely gorgeous with red hair! Brings out her beauty even more!

Aphrodite Dennis: This helped thank you! I have a cool undertone but I’m pale so I was leaning towards the lighter warmer auburn vs the richer auburn, my brows are medium like a dirty dark blonde so I’ll just need to fill them in more, maybe see about adding a red liner see if it’ll look ok/natural

NoRa: The model was already pretty with blonde hair but red hair suits her even better! She looks gorgeous!

Lauren Kris: First, she looks amazing with red hair! Second, why does everything have to be a choice based on what Hollywood is doing. I've wanted to be red for years because I had a wig that was dark strawberry (and loved it!) and I've seen women with red hair who looked fabulous. Not all lives are ruled by Hollywood's choices.

Ellen Parks: When I was growing up as a natural redhead, I was teased about my red hair. I hated it to the point of feeling suicidal. I know it might seem stupid but it messed big time with my self esteem. Being told I had shitty red hair. Now it's considered beautiful and sexy. What a crazy world.

Sydney M.: God that red looks sooooooooooo good on her! She looks like a natural redhead! that color is beautiful, she looks better with red hair

Rebekah Axton: It looks so natural, this is the shade I've been trying to get with henna

MsBibiMuneca: It's so easy for a blonde to go red. How about a video of a brunette going red? Thank you

TALKmitJennifer: She looks so much amazing with this red color... wow

Brittany Fry: That is the perfect shade of red for her! She looks stunning!

wxstednxghts: This is my exact natural red hair color and its soo so soo hard to find a color that's exactly like my natural color bc I want to join the military and we have to have our natural hair color so when your roots grow out, you barely notice or dont notice at all. I definitely need to find a color like this asap!

JessyJ318: I’m convinced more than ever to go Red! ❤️

bbbrittanyyy: As a blonde she looked like a funny soccer mom who hung out in Beverly hills and loved to gossip! As a redhead ❤ she looks like a single sexy secretary in a law firm who would take your man!!!

Ingrid Veerman: OMG what shade is this? I love it!!

narutosinuyasha11: Iv never seen anyone look bad with red hair gorgeous

jdinh3603: She looks wayyyyy better with red hair

Brandi Haines: I used a boxed red dye on my blonde hair and loved it, however it only lasted 2 days. Will red hair last longer if done at a salon?

fla la: *It looks so good!* ‍

Vicky Colvin: Love the colour! Don't like it when she says 'it's just hair' at the end though. My hair means so much to me and to many others

Dinah Mite: The girl looks so stunning!! Gorgeous transformation!

Gold Arlekin: I love this! beautiful! <3 congratulations!

Denisse Goatcher-Avila: Rinse with cold water & use a red tinted conditioner to keep color vibrant!

plantsbabey: Everyone who doesn't have red hair wants it, and those of us who have it don't like it...

Tiff T: So I wanna dye my hair red, but i'm confused on what to do. My under tone is yellow, but right now my skin is very fair. My face is extremely fair but my body is medium (not tan, but not fair). I want to do it during the summer, but I get somewhat tan, so I don't know if I what red would look best on me, a bright red like the lady, or a brown-ish red like auburn (my natural color is dark brown). please help :)

Alexandra Apjarova: What brand and what formula did you use? Could you share that with us if it's not your secret? Thank you so much.

Amy Galvin: She really stands out in a sea of blondes!

Melody Patterson: That red looks natural on her!

Joseph Gippert: You are lucky that both colours suited you but the red was especially pretty

Fatima DaSilva: I absolutely love this red color. What color was used and what volume of developer?

RandomMess: I love red hair would like to go red but I tried it once an it didnt look right i think i got the wrong shade maybe some people just dont look good with red hair though i get bored of being blonde an would rather be brunette too but that wouldnt suit me either most likely, this woman looked good as both but i think better with the red

theveganhotspot: I so want to try red but I'm afraid that if I want to go back to blonde it will be very difficult to do so. :-/

Lia: I wish they gave a recipe!

Rylie Johnson: I’m currently a red head. But my hair is starting to turn more of a blonde and brown! Ugh i hate it on me i dont want my hair color to change.

Союз Экс Ди: Red shade gets the seductive guys. Beleyage (mind my spelling) gets the little boy syndrome type of males. Red shade like Emma Stone, Black Widow (Scarlett johanson actor) is the way to go for long-term shipping

C: This is the exact shade that I'm looking for! I'm wondering which color is it

Delson Galasinao: Actually my hair is naturally deep black so I hate it a lot.so this pandemic I changed my haircolor Everytime to play up my look .I go from blonde to dark red then in red brown.

WhatsOnHerMind: She looks great with that red hair, to me it looks better and more natural on her than blonde

Ashley Stacey: I NEEEEED THE FORMULA!!! That red is perfect

Martina Laray: Can you please post the formula for this particular color? I have the exact same base as your model.

Sara Madhaj: She rocks red hair

Zal Sav: I love the blonde on her better

Jennifer Ford: This is so false. I hate when people say cool undertones need a cool red color. There is no such thing as a cool toned red hair color that is natural. All natural red hair has a warm tone. Guess what, the most common undertone to have with natural red hair is pink. In nature cool toned skin and warm red hair are the combination you get and it's beautiful! Stop telling women to get cool violet toned red hair. It always looks fake because, wait for it, there is no natural hair color that looks like that.

Joseph Gippert: There's definitely not a red for everyone red is warm even the cooler reds i look ill and sickly with reds I have tried them all mainly because I liked it on other people but I found i had a winter skin and now I avoid red and I glow and look my very best in cool browns

miastyles70: Wow this is faith. My name's sophie too and i want to go red too. Let's dp it! :D

LightAndCosmia: You can even dye your hair red with Kool-Aid! :)

Camille Coopersmith: Love the color looks good

Sophia McMahon: I’m a natural redhead in this kind of kills me

Helna JS Verdi: I love red hair!!!! But i don't know if red is a right color with pale skin. I'm so white.

Jordan Thomas: Best vid on red hair that I've seen all day

S Meyer: must be a weasly i love ginger / red hair sooooo freaking much

Marina Jade Patrick: I want this formula! What is it!?

SILKE 😋🤘: Beautiful

socalsal627: I didn't really hear any useful information.  They mentioned cool and warm undertones but what is that?  can you please explain to someone who doesn't understand what those mean??  This seemed more like just an advertisement.  Also, I am a natural redhead with naturally brown eyebrows so are you saying I look fake?

Sonia S: Beautiful

Jordan Sparks: LOL shows the Mahoganny Cherry Red on Scarlett Johannsen who's skin is the epitome of warm

Chrystyna Mohr: I think that I would look great as a redhead

Nina Shermam: A lot of these post never divulge the color they use! Not helpful!

Éirénn Murtagh: She became a foxy lady. Wow!

Tina Avendano: What color level was used?

Raschell Cartagena: ok but what is the hair dye used in this video?

Adrian Delgado: how can I get that color by myself? I mean, the number of the color

Amy Farmer: Please can you tell me the colour used in this video? i love the colour

Anika L.: Theres copper shampoo to upkeep red lol

Ray Ashleigh: so much hotter with red

yo: she looks great

Taysha Coughlin: sadly this didn't help at all . I just want to know the correct shade for my skin tone , while I am so pale I can see my veins , I am super freckley and have a warm face tone with a cool body tone .... x ....x I have no idea where to go from there . btw I'm a natural redhead but on the darker side , and yet the front of my face has gold and white hair . x...x I could get either way but I want a color that would really really suit me .

Anissa Abu-Hadba: im going red for winter
