https://YourColorStyle.com/quiz ~ Does red hair mean you have warm undertones? How do you know if you have cool undertones? Are you always bright? What if you have red in your hair? Jen discusses what to look for and to help you understand what colors will look good on you.

Hey I'm Jen Thune, with your color style, calm and in this video I want to talk about red, hair and undertones. So it is. I get a lot of different questions. They'Re all kind of they're all different, but they're all very similar, and it has to do with the fact that a person that has red in their hair or has very red hair what what are their undertones is, it always warm and if and sometimes if, people Believe they have warm undertones, it doesn't feel right when they wear warm colors. So let me kind of talk about a little bit, people with red hair and where you kind of fit so it used to be. I don't know about you used to be, but I feel like there was a trend for a while, especially with seasonal color analysis, that if you had a dominant trait like warm hair, warm red hair that you would automatically be put into either an autumn or spring. Both seasons are warm and and bright for the most part I mean autumns, there's there's a range in there and I won't get into that, but you tend to fall into one of those categories, but the reality is is that it's not always true and you have To consider more than just the hair, when looking at someone and deciding whether or not they have warm or cool undertones, I have met many redheads that have cool undertones and the warm colors just look awful on them. I'Ve also met people with red hair and have warm undertones and even then still sometimes the warm colors just don't suit them. So what's going on here, how do you know where you fit and what colors are going to compliment you so first I want to address the the individuals that have red in their hair, maybe even more red but they're, very fair and light, and their eyes are Typically, a soft blue gray. These individuals, if this describes you is, are usually people with cool undertones. If you look at your skin, unless you have a dominant really golden color to your skin, which I highly doubt, you probably have more of a pinkish quality to your skin and even though your hair has red in it. The dominant traits. Here are your cool blue gray eyes and your cool skin and the hair is just the hair and it doesn't necessarily change your undertone, so you likely have cool undertones and if I were to guess at a just a general rule, probably soft. You probably look better in softer muted tones than in in brighter colors, okay, maybe soft cool and light. Then we have the individuals that have vibrant, bright red hair, bright orange, hair strawberry, blonde hair. They typically have golden skin and their eyes can be anywhere from blue to blue green green hazel. Those individuals are very likely have warm undertones and it used to be. I used to a bucket everybody that fit that kind of description is into bright and warm meaning that you have warm undertones and you look best in bright, clear, chroma colors. However, I have met now. A few that have had me do their colors, where their eyes are very soft. Hazel. Very warm. The warmth is not really the the problem of discerning. It'S really more of that. The bright, colors really don't fit them, and when I look at their hair, I realize that their hair doesn't have that vibrancy either so they're xu more soft. It could be sometimes that if you have this warmth about you and you feel that you should be wearing bright colors and but it still doesn't feel right, it might be because the colors are too bright for you. Okay, another reason that colors on the warm side may not feel right, for you is because there's just simply not enough contrast. If you are someone that is bright and warm, you need that vibrancy and you need a little bit of contrast to really kind of bring yourself to life. So a lot of the colors that are on the warm side of the color wheel, because you are dominantly warm kind of blends in with you. It'S not that you can't wear red or pink I've, seen many women with with red, hair and and green eyes, and warm we're pinks and Red's, and look fabulous and and bright yellow. But sometimes when you lean more into the golden color. As the golden brown starts, the kind of gum yeah - that's not so great, and quite honestly, my I encourage you to really look at the color. It'S on the cool side of the color wheel, where most of your Universal colors live anyway. Those are probably going to be that are suited for you because they give you a little contrast. So those greens, Jade's turquoises, true blues, it's true someone with with with brightness about them and red hair, is going to look really good in a royal blue. So I hope that helps a little bit now. Let'S talk about the the individuals that are bright, but they still have cool undertones and those are the individuals that have definitely red hair, but usually people with it with cooler undertones. Okay. So there again, you look at their skin and it's a lack of warmth. They might be very fair but either way the lack of warmth. Their eyes are typically a very crystally blue, so they're definitely bright and they're cool their hair. It also has a brightness to it, and if the thing is is if you were to compare that person's hair color to someone who is strawberry blonde and clearly has warm undertones, you would see that their red hair actually has a little bit of a coolness to It and a little bit of a blue hue to their hair. That may not be obvious to you and just looking at someone, but next to somebody else, who's warm. You might actually start to see it. I'Ve seen very, very bright hair. That is not obvious. I'Ve also seen darker auburn hair, but it's kind of a cool color, and so that person would fall more into bright and cool and look best in the cool colors and not great at all and the warm golden colors, because it's completely wrong for their undertones. So I know there's a huge range here, but I'm explaining this to you, because if you fit into that bucket or you know some of who is that it's okay to break away from thinking that you have warm undertones - and I start looking at yourself overall. What is really working for you if you want to learn more about what colors are gon na look best on you? There is a free quiz that you could take out of my site and there's a link, that's directly below this video. You are also welcome to sign up for a professional color analysis. Tiffany Abels: Thank you for addressing redheads!!! I feel like we always get skipped over in color analysis.

011silbermond: It´s so fascinating to hear this about red-haired people and/or people which are warm colour types but don´t wear warm colours, because that is what I´ve recognized that often and wondered why. On the other side are people like me. I discovered only now that I´m a Light Spring with very little warmth in its colouring, but all cool colours let me look only pale and really barely there. Most people including me would have thought I´m a Summer type. But I feel I can´t even wear blue or turquoise or violet really well, because that lack of a contrasting warmth (or sth.) in my skin and hair. So now that I know my colours I try to combine warm tones with cooler tones to make it fit for me.

SAL: One of the things I love about your system, Jen, is the differentiation between bright and soft. When I was young my hair was very warm in tone. So much so that people used to say I had red hair (though I never considered myself a "redhead"). In the sunshine my hair looked especially fiery. Back in the early 80s I went for a seasonal color analysis, and my hair threw them for a moment, but as my eyes were a bright blue and my skin was fair and rosy I was categorized as a "Summer". The problem with that was that those powdery pastels really washed me out. I needed brightness and a bit of contrast to look my best. And now that my hair is silver/gray I definitely need contrast. Even still, there are some colors that are just too intense for me. Perhaps because I've lightened overall. All shades of bright blue are great. It's fun to experiment and find what works best for yourself. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I love the preciseness yet flexibility of your system. Once you get acquainted with it, It's easy to use. And it is accommodating of all of us (multitude) who don't exactly fit into a season.

Line Suenaga: Thank you, I really needed some explanation about this! I still wonder about freckles though.. my skin is definitely cool, but then I have plenty of freckles that are definitely warm, like a warm orange/brown... so do I then cater to my cool skin, or my warm freckles and hair?

Saret Steyn: This was a very good detailed breakdown . Foto examples with the different types would have been great!

Keecia Buster: Thank you! Red heads run the total gamut in tone and undertone, and that is completely ignored or even contradicted in seasonal color analysis.

Lena Seale: Thank you so much for addressing this mistake in seasonal colour analysis and thank you for giving such a detailed analysis of red heads, it's so overlooked/misunderstood usually!!

Leah Grey: Ahhhh yes! Still forgot the brown eyes haha don’t mind my hair in the photo, it’s photo-shopped but my hair is strawberry-blond and I have brown eyes. I was a hairstylist so my exact hair colour is an 8.34 which is a gold, gold, copper. It’s more rose-gold than it is red or orange and as I age, it’s even becoming a bit on the ashy/neutral side. My eyes are a medium brown but they have a lot of gold and my skin tone is cool. You’d think I was a warm but I look best in PINK, of all colours, light pink especially, and warm colours wash me out. Can’t wear camel to save my life. Normally, I just wear black because colours are too difficult but if I do them, I try to stick to the pinks or bright pastels. I can’t see a difference from the jewelry test at all. I wear it all.

Laurel: I wish you had used example pictures. It helps me visualize the color names. Very good insight though. I really liked your video. Trying hard to make my redhead work for me! I think I've got it now.

Jana W: This is soooo hard. I just can’t figure out what I am. I am a vibrant redhead with blue/greenish/greyish eyes and I burn easily but I feel like my skin is really warm? But I can’t really tell because it kinda depends on the lighting. I feel best in bright warm colors, but sometimes I like blues too.

Victoria Marie: Hey I have auburn hair but I think it's a pretty vibrant and my eyes are a hazel color constanting of green and blue but I have rust around my pupil. From this description I would think I'm a warm but my veins are blue and my skin is a bit pinky and I've heard people say if you have blue vanes you are cool. Are veins that important when determining color? Should I go with my hair and eyes (warm) or veins and skin (cool)? Please help!

Billy Bass: What about freckles? Can they be cool? I have fair pinkish skin, blue eyes and dishwasher blonde hair . I can't wear bright colors but I look good in all light summer colors.

KN 1215: Can you help me out? I was born with red hair, which faded into a warm strawberry blonde as I grew up. (I now dye my hair blonde as you see in my picture) My eyes are greenish-blue with a gold starburst in the centre. My skin is fair, and I have both green and blue veins (depends on where the veins are. I look good in both gold and silver. My best colour is turquoise, and I look good in clear, bright colours, reds, marigolds, bright pinks, salmons, and and jewel tones look amazing. (Except for purple - not so great) Browns and tan colours don’t do much for me, and neither do muted or pastel colours. Best eye shadow colours are soft greens, soft pinks, and can pull off gold and silver colours. Best lipstick colours are soft pinks and nudes. So what am I? I have a feeling I’m neutral in skin tone. But do I lean more warm or cool? I usually dye my hair warm and neutral blonde shades. Could I get away with an ash blonde, or would that wash me out? Sorry to be so long winded! I just can’t place myself lol. I feel like I am such a combination of warm and cool factors when it comes to what looks good on me.

Cat: So I have olive green eyes I’ve always considered myself with warm under tones that’s why I can’t figure out when a hairstylist ask me if I want to stay in the warm colors or cool colors when I color my hair, I would think they should know that my skin tone is warm I just never can figure that out.

Rickie Lee L.: This is the video I've been looking for!!!

Angela Browning: I have hazel eyes, grey hair and warm skin tone. I used to be an autumn but, since going natural grey I am at a loss as to what colours I should wear. Please can you help. Thank you from Scotland.

gais b: true I have done some redheads that are Summers. Glad I designed clothing now..

Noblebird02: My cousin has red hair & grey-blur eyes and my lover has auburn hair a ginger beard, with bright turquoise eyes: both men have blue veins and pink skin. They avoid the sun and so I have never seen them burnt or freckled

Red Phoenyx: I literally can not figure me out.. Ive tried very system I can find and I don't fit anywhere... My hair is somewhere between full ginger and strawberry blonde, extremely pale fair skin with blue/purple veins but also with a slightly green tint to them, my eyes are a dark green I've never seen on anyone else and I have central heterochromia so they have some brown in the middle.. Best I can think to describe them is almost Traditional camo colored cuz of the mix of colors created by the heterochromia. I can look great in both brights and pastels depending on the color...... Red i can wear if it's bright..pink only if it's a pastel color..blue,green, purple are all some brights work some don't, some pastels work. Some dont... White, yellow & orange are a no go across the board.... but black literally brings my skin alive.. It lights up my entire complexion and I all but glow... It's really just hit or miss...I can't make heads or tails of any of it... Buying make up is even worse! I'm 37 years old and can't find foundation (not even with the help of the ladies behind the counter) cuz the cools wash me out.. The warms are to yellow.. Neutrals are never the right color... Im so confused...

H.L.A Solomonov: Wow never knew that My mom was strawberry blond and brown eyes She always looked wonderful in cool bright or soft warm

daniisaurushax: I’m still so confuseeeeddd I have like auburn-ish hair, green eyes and my veins look blue and purple. I feel like my veins are blue but it almost seems a little green too. I can’t tell what colors look good on me. I wanna say I should be wearing soft colors

Humannn Trashhh: Thank you. People always leave out redheads

Rachel: So if I don't look good in light pink shirts, it's because it's clashing with my pink undertones? Help

Lauryn Geosits: Cool skin undertones, green eyes, and warm natural redhead...it's confusing for sure.

Dracul: What God's green Earth you going on about ginger is Ginger at the end of the bloody day I'm ginger I'm proud of it

Tricia: Good God woman, show pictures!!
