So today, when we were visiting a question that I get asked quite a bit in public and more frequently now that I have two kids and that question is Carlyle, why do your kids have red hair so well, first, it's important to know that my wife has Red hair, however, none of her siblings have red hair. Her parents, don't have red hair, and neither do our grandparents well on my side of the family, there's nope, nobody hits it well, we'll dive back into that topic a little bit later. So the very word expecting our first child and we would often be asked a question like if you had like a mix, a child with red hair yeah. That would be quite interesting, but yeah not gon na happen. Well it it made perfect sense at the time. Well out pops, the baby in as well red hair. No, no like the real, like red hair like red, hair, red hair. So then all of my friends and family are like yeah, but then I started thinking like jeans like this really contradicts everything. I thought about. Genetics and how dominant features work and how recessive features work in so I did some digging and did some research and I had to educate myself, and this is what I got so kids get a pair of traits, one from each parent that makes up who they Are like eye color, dimples, cleft, chin, earlobes and hair color and for the most part these traits can be dominant or recessive and there's a bunch of other stuff in there, like genetic mutations and all type of stuff, that I don't have the time to learn about, Or teach about, but yeah just keep it basic for the time being. So if a dominant trait gets paired with a recessive trait, then only the dominant trait is seen or expressed. A recessive trait like a red hair, has to be paired with another recessive red hair. Trait, in order for that person to have red hair, don't worry, I'm gon na try to explain a little bit further. So using this little sciency thing I found online called punnett square. We can break it down like this. I have black hair or we'll call that B and Jill has red hair, we'll use a little R to show that it's recessive and we don't for sure that Jill has to have two copies of the recessive hair trait, since she is a redhead and well well. That'S just the way it has to meet. You mean redheads have two percents of ours and based on just this information, we can already determine that by this combination of traits that Jill and I can have a two out of four chance of having kids, who have black or dark hair, who carry a recessive Red hair gene, but wait, we did have a redheaded child, so we can go ahead and fill in one of those little squares, knowing that one of our offspring has a chance of being redheaded. That'S too little ours and knowing this we can also conclude that I must have a recessive red hair train as well. Making my missing and unexpressed rate a little R for red hair. So Jill has two little hearts. I have a big B for black hair, dark hair and a little R for the recessive red hair trait, and so now we can fill in this last piece of the puzzle with another double a little R and there we have it. We have a 50-50 chance of having redheaded kids, it's pretty obvious to see how Jill may have got the recessive red-haired genes. But what about me? So I did one of those ancestry DNA things. You know you send off your saliva and they test it. Tell you where all you ancestors come from and all kinds of like that, and what do you know I'm black, like very black Owen there. It is like 3 % from England and 2 % from Ireland and Scotland. So you mean to tell me that I got all that strong African heritage and a little bit of the luck of the Irish yeah. I know that was horrible, higher accent. I never said I could do a perfect Irish accent. Okay, just cover some slack. Of course. I'M sure there's a lot more to that ancestral history that I'm just not gon na dive into. But yes there's some Irish in me so fast forward to 2019 and there we were expecting our second child and we were asked a question again. Why? Wouldn'T it be crazy if y'all had a redheaded baby again, so we flipped the coin, and then there was two

Naila Fanene: I'm pure Samoan (Polynesian). My daughter is part Irish/Scottish. Her children's father is also part Polynesian/Irish. They have NOT ONE but TWO ginger haired, fair skin children. One has blue eyes (which is extremely rare even in white children) and the other has freckles. Both parents have jet black hair. Both children are mistaken for pure white children all the time. Now there's food for thought!!

Phoenix Hunter: I’m a redhead. My mom is blonde, dad has black hair. No relatives with red hair either. I just popped up in the gene pool. We do that . Redheads. We just show up unexpectedly

Burger Mister: It doesn't matter how mixed you are. ANYBODY CAN HAVE RED HAIR NOT BECAUSE OF RACE.I have seen Asians have red hair.

OSAGIE E. Guobadia - Second YT Channel: Goood story about having mixed kids with your lovely red hair wife, Carlyle! : )

Katie Anderson: ♥️ Such a beautiful family

Aly C: So, this isn’t correct. The MC1R mutations that can cause red hair are considered “incomplete dominant” traits. There are 3 mutations that can cause red hair, and there are some people that have 2 copies and still don’t have red hair! I have 1 copy and I have a reddish tint to my hair. Hair color is actually a complicated thing and they still don’t have it completely worked out.

Epic RAT Battles: I am so envious! Your kids are gorgeous! Go for a third one ?

Miss S: That was funny and cute. The kids are beautiful. I love red hair.

Tiffany Loveless: This was cute :) #modelchildren

Bry :D: I’m a mixed ginger aswelllll

Arcious: It's common if the parent is white Edit: if her parents or grandparents don't have red hair, her ancestors might. Red hair is a very recessive gene. Red hair skips multiple generations. If her parents didn't have red hair, they could've had the ginger gene. Then your kids could've ended up with red hair too. Red hair is common in biracial kids with red haired parents.

Me and my boyfriend has talked about for a long while what our babies would look like and if they would come out with red hair just like me, and I can't wait to have my own mixed ginger babies but I'm only 18 so I don't want to rush it just yet, but I can't wait❤

C Thompson: Why did he get asked this question wen the mom is clearly has red hair. That's stupid question to ask someone that. But you can also get genes from somewhere down the line of the family . Doesn't nessasserily mean bc your mom has black hair your gonna get black hair. U might come out with blonde an no one has blonde. It's just came from an ansestor down the road.

The War Machine: I love gingers, but I can't find them, here in Canada

Stimpy: This is heart-breaking. Your blood doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the future. To throw away so much heritage just to create that is despicable.
