Hey guys, karen from curl house and today we are going to talk about protective styles and gray. Hair are protective styles good for gray, hair. Well in case you do not know me by now. I am going gray and i have quite a bit of it. Let me show it to you: do you see that i know i have this hair in a protective style, but that gray hair is still popping out. So to answer the question up front? Yes, absolutely you can put your hair in protective styles with gray hair. Now that does come with a disclaimer know that your gray hair is super super dry. I even did a video of it i'll make sure i put that video link down in the description box, but your gray hair is super super dry and what it needs more than anything, is moisture and moisturizers oils and water-based products to keep the hair hydrated because It is so so dry with gray now protective styles are styles, that technically protect your ends and hair from drying out so protective styles. Isn'T it for an example, is the one i have y'all see this. This is just two cornrows, very simple: nothing spectacular! Still a protective style because the ends of my hair are braided up and they're not out and exposed, and because it's in two braids i can't manipulate it. So protective styles are those styles that once it is done, it is done. You don't have to do much to it. So again, two cornrows. Yes, i am rocking two cornrows. Yes, you can no hair added just two cornrows. Yes, it's basic! Yes, it might be a little old school, but it is working for me and i like it. It'S very simple: let me go ahead and show you the back of it, so that you can get the full effect of my two cornrows y'all see that those two cornrows yes, i love them anyway, so protective styles and gray hair. This is a protective style, but i'll be completely honest with you now that my hair is gray, i'm just not able to wear protective styles. The way i used to and i'm not able well excuse me, i'm able to wear them the way i used to i'm just not able to wear them as long as i used to wear them. So a lot of people who do protective styles - they rock they - may do a sew in they may keep a sew in for six to eight weeks they may get box braids or cornrows with hair added. Those styles can get last about a month or even two months, but with my hair and with my gray hair, i'm just not able to keep a protective style in that long, because i don't want to risk my hair drying out more and and breaking off due To dryness, because i'm not able to put moisturizer in it the way you're able to moisturize it when it's not in a protective style. Now the benefit of a protective style. Is that once it's done, you don't have to do anything to it. It'S done, but the drawback of a protective style is that once it's done, you don't do anything to it and by not doing anything to it, you may cause your hair to break off because it's so dry right. So the key to rocking your gray, hair in a protective style, is to keep it lubricated, while in the protective style right. So i can spray some oil in my hair each day i may spray a light leave-in conditioner in my hair every other day. I still do something to it to keep it hydrated, even though it's in a protective style. That is the key. So if you want to keep that gray, hair, healthy and fabulous still growing and not breaking in a protective style, make sure you keep your hair lubricated while in the protective style. So if you have braids loose hanging, braids spray, your natural hair, with a little bit of oil spray it with a little bit of light, leave-in conditioner. If you have sew in pull that sew in pull that track up spray, your hair, if you have crochet braids, do the same thing. If you have a protective style like me with no weave added still spray, your natural hair keep your hair hydrated and lubricated, while in the protective style, and if you do that, you will definitely maintain the health and the moisture level of your gray hair. Well, i hope this tip on gray, hair protective styles helped you, and until we talk again
