I'Ve absolutely burnt my neck and someone thought it was a hickey muj. We can't win hi, I'm Michele we're here today to do our hair using our hot tools, I'm Spencer. This is my curling wand. My I guess. Weapon of choice is my handy curling iron hi. My name is Jana. I use this t3 hair curling iron - I don't know wonderful. My name is Julie and I've been using this literally Hot Tools, hot tool, one and a quarter inch curling iron. I definitely burn myself more than 50 times with this Madeline. You know she gets the job done, so that's all. I can really ask me: the curling iron will spend like a good 30 minutes together, at least so since I have a lot of hair, I try and section it off I'll, like pin my hair up. Like half of my hair and then like curl, the bottom did I find this hair clip somewhere now, I'm using it absolutely struggle is real women curling our hair is seriously fast, okay, so here's what's gon na happen. Oh you're curling, your hair, you're ruining your hair. Hot irons have been used to curl hair since ancient times. Excavations of Egyptian tombs have revealed devices that may have been used to curl hair. Wait. What what kind of devices interesting like sticks servant? Please heat up these irons. I need to curl my hair there's a lack of scientific research on exactly how heat damages hair and at what temperatures at different levels of damage can be done. Interesting so they're just telling us that we can't curl our hair at certain temperatures, but where are the facts because he styling tools have been around for so long? It'S like I'm trying to lower this. I don't even know how to lower this. Can I tell you something mine's at 374 right now and that's actually like lower than I usually do, because you were like I'm so sorry, I'm at 3:30 and I was like I'll turn it down one that a study conducted in 1984 found that using heat above 140 Celsius, 140 Celsius, 284 degrees Fahrenheit. The dry hair can cause permanent structural damage. But what are we supposed to believe now? Wait. Wasn'T there a fact that said they don't know yet what, but now this is saying that there was a study conducted in 84. Ok, here's the thing I don't want my hair to fall out, but uh. You know, professor and researcher, to here. A read specifically noticed that the limited research available did not focus on how heat effects curly, hair and black hair in particular, and that textbooks typically over generalized hair types. She and her team have set out to conduct research focused on finding the temperature at which curly hair becomes permanently structurally damaged, so that hasn't actually been found out. Yet we just noticed this now that there's, like only one type of hair bang study, that's kind of crazy. Until late twentieth century electric tools came on the market, heating, curling and crimping irons involved a lot of guesswork which often led to singeing and losing hair. I believe that, just like we saw in that video youtuber girl there weren't enough tutorials, she was curling your hair and then literally that whole. Like piece of that here, like burned off, she tried to make the door according to dermatologist, dr. Carolyn, Jacob curling, irons and straight irons, caused more damage than blow dryers and shouldn't be used for more than three or four seconds per section of hair. No actually count to eight second days, yeah cuz, I'm like guy I'm out here, counting to like 20, what girl ding. I was ruining my hair. Our hair is done. We'Re out here we're looking good you've learned today: heat, probably not the best for your hair. The temperature was like 284 C. 300 seems like like a good barometer, so maybe 300 or less less or the better right yeah. He in general can be very damaging to your hair, but at the same time we want to look good. We want to, like you know, use these tools to like just amplify like what we already have and make it just look better all tools, although they do style like saloon. Similarly, they are not the same. Cuz like this doesn't even have like there's no temperature, there's yeah, there's no temperature we're damaging our hair. It is that gon na change what I do with it probably die but uh. You know good to know great good to know the more you know, but I'm also gon na keep curling my hair, I'm still confused as to what a dermatologist has to do with my hair, but I guess it grows from my scalp. So three four! Oh that's! Not gon na stay I'll tell you that right now you

no: Facts: haha heat ruins your hair These girls: ok and

Lea: The struggle is even more real when you have *thick* hair

KannibalCat: I’m a hairdresser, if you’re using heat correctly, the damage is minimal and you don’t have to worry.

Christopher Yoeurng: 4:21 *"300 seems like a good barometer"* Honey, barometers measure air pressure

Sammie Wied: I can’t even curl my hair, I’m so bad. Also I’m too scared that I’m going to burn myself.

Cool Feet: I never curl my hair bc I have so much that it takes FOREVER and it falls out in LITERALLY 5 minutes

Pourya Bigonah: Next time my gal uses a curling iron, I’m gonna spew so many facts that I just «randomly» have in my head.

Emily Mayo: I used to have really curly hair, a year ago i decided to start straining it like 5 times, now im still trying to recover from the damage, my hair is kind of wavy still, after a lot of deep conditioning and everything my hair haven’t went back to normal. Im never using heat again

lol: ‘i HaVe A lOt Of HaIr’ LOLLLLL **laughs in 2ft long thick hair**

Skarlet Marrero: Am I the only one who uses a straight iron to curl hair? LMAO

Britney Astorga: I’m over here counting up to 30 when curling my hair

LG Hakubi: Fascinating. I knew thinner/straighter hair wouldn't need that high a temperature as black hair but I did think it would be more of a quicker turn around. I mean it was in comparison to my own (one hour) but 4 second per curl sounded plausible to me

poptartgenuis Ruiz: I used to straighten my hair all the time because people kept telling me it would look better more straight. As a biracial, African-American/Hispanic, my hair was more so curly with a slight fluffyness than traditional African hair properties. I kept straightening my hair until I was 18 and decided to go natural. Problem is that since all those years of straightening my hair its natural texture is now much straighter. My hair is more loose curly without its fluffy thickness. I KILLED MY HAIR!!! Its not at all like it used to be before I started straightening it. I've cut it short and I'm never using a straightener again.

Natalee Denlinger: “i have a lot of hair” ok let’s not get too crazy here

Betsy Jay: Spenser: "EIGHT?!?!?! I'm out here counting till like....20!" Girl....same.

CherryCola: “I’ve burnt myself and someone totally thought it was a hickey.” *6th grader voice* “UHhHh wHo’D yOu mAkEoUt wItH”

Rebeca llanes: Damn this brought back memories i used to have super bad heat damage because i had straightened my hair for like 5-6 years and its been 2 years since ive straightened it and 2 haircuts later and its so much healthier

IntrovertGoneAWOL: Oof. Those researchers would cringe at my previous styling habits my hair is naturally -CURLY- so when everyone was doing beachy waves and loose curls that I wanted, I blowdried, straightened, and THEN curled my hair.

Sugar Skulls: Low key we should do a live webcam altogether while doing makeup or hair. It sounds so plain but it’s... fun!

stairwy 2heven: I used to straighten my hair so much in middle school I think I actually did permanently damage the structure. My hair is not as curly as it used to be

Aelin Luna: My hair won't hold a curl for more than 20 mins. Thoughts and prayers during this difficult time please.

Sarah Espinosa: I'm a hairdresser! Use a heat protection product on your hair every time before heat styling!!! (They usually protect up to 400°)

Horses by Hulachowdown: I definte;y burned my forehead once in junior high, I want curly bangs and I got them. THANK GOD it covered the massive burn I had on my face for like 2 weeks. It started bleeding in class so I had to get a bandaid from the nurse.... she gave me the brightest neon plaster on earth( I swear it was intentional) so that was great. The worst part is I naturally had a super bright birthmark right where I burnt it, now there is just kind of a patch of rough skin there now that the birth mark had faded. Looks like I had a giant cyst pimple that is still healing.

Kristina Cruz: Omg I can totally relate to Spenser! I burned my neck with my curling iron and for like 3 days people thought I had a hickey

Laura Starbrook: I'm happy I've only curled my ends in my life time, and I stopped straight drying my hair when I was 15. Let it be natural

Arielle Mae: Girl you don't even need to curl your hair you're already beautiful

Lauren L: I’ll sleep in sponge rollers to avoid heat damage haha. Or just wear em 30min-hour before I go out

Yours Truly, Mia: I love that there was a fact about curly/black hair included. But would have loved to see a person of color included, As/Is.

Oof: I stopped using heat to do my hair and my hair is actually better natural. My hair used to be frizzy and nappy. If I want my hair to be curly I can braid it. If I want it to be straight I will use a round brush to flatten it out.

Matthew Wilson: Who the heck said you have to curl your hair? The struggle is real if you decide to put yourself through that crap

Nelly •: I have natural “princess curls” so I don’t have to use heat ☺️

evan emanuel: As a hair stylist.... I'm going to tell you this.. the temp. that should be the highest is 350 degrees ( it won't damage as much, and wouldn't cause color to fade) use a heat protectant

Rhianna M: The whole time while watching “I was like don’t forget the iron is on your hair “ Them talking *

소피 언니: Whenever I curl my hair it takes me about 3+ hours and i keep my hair around the wand for 1-2 minutes and its always fallen out within an hour or two anyways

Jungkook’s 80 dollar mattress: Hair curling tutorial 101: Do braids (preferably with wet hair) Fall asleep Wake up Open the braids Style the curls and you’re good to go

Kenzii_: “I have a lot of hair” *Laughs in 4a/4b 10 inch hair”

alyssA c: I straighten my hair so much people think it’s my natural hair. It’s actually wavy but not wavy enough to look cute. My hair is most likely dead

mochily: I can’t even curl my hair, not that i’m too scared or something. No, because my hair just can’t curl... :’)

inomu: My hair never gets curled!! I have thin wavy-ish hair and it takes forever to get one curl!! And by the time I’m done some curls have been un done and as soon as I go out my hair automatically uncurls AND YES I TRIED HAIR SPRAY MANY TIMES NOTHING WORKS!!!

K-Canna Queen: “Because heat styling tools have been around for so long, everyone is just like ‍♀️” Me: “but what about cannabis?”

Bubble Nuggets: Cant relate because umm... My hair is already curly

Ylva Karin: I dont use any hot tools on my hair at all.. I use fabric hair rollers and leave them in for hours. I used to curl my hair allllll the time and it gives me anxiety to even think about

Tiffani Lynn: I have long thick hair, I use a 3/4 curling iron and hold each section for 35 to 45 seconds

Angelica Rivas: You know what's really funny, if I wanted to curl my hair I'd have to straighten it first cuz my hair just kinda grows like that

G: 1:03 the struggle is not real, it’s not a law that you have to curl your hair

Angela Wandagan: When hair is you crowning glory. Me: i will do everything to make it poppin'

beaglelover1998: I dropped my curling wand on my leg when I was sitting on the floor doing my hair. It left two big burns on my leg.

Lousha Darkbvtch: Scientific facts yes. But I thought it would explain how to curl hair without causing damage not confuse me even more to whether it's healthy or not.

Guymingi: It hits different when you have natural hair ————-

Elizabeth Coyotl: If you're going to be using these devices you have to make sure to properly hydrate your hair before and after. Or else you get weak, brittle, frizzy hair

LauraTheDad: Heat has definitely damaged my hair so I rock my natural hair with some dry shampoo but too each there own

Anindita Bhaumik: I have used heat on hair about once in my life and I have decided never again...I can see girls on the streets with dead horrible hair heat styled it doesn't look good and once you start doing it you have to continue because otherwise your hair looks sad...like have you ever seen natural shiny fluffy hair....yea... It flows.....

Vince Misa: I don't use hot tools except for special occasions. I've only colored my hair twice in 25 yrs of existence. But daaaaaang it. She is damaged. Dry. Split ends. Frizzy.

Veronika Bolt: girl i curl my hair at 410 degrees

dollyshit: I BURNED MY HAIR OFF WITH THAT

Sam: I don't count I just put it on low and leave it on until I feel that the strand is warm......my hair is naturally curly so I almost never do anything but wash and air dry

Ffion Owen: How do I curl my hair? Simple! 1. go into shower 2. wash hair 3. Get out of shower 4. Air dry 5. Done! For straight hair replace 4 with blow dry hair

girlpabl0: Spencer is hilarious

sam nymphx: Spenser looks so much like Brie Larson or is it just me

AwwesomeVal: These never really even worked in my naturally straight hair

picka picka: my hair is so long it's really not a easy feat to curl my hair

Ellie: Just burned under my chin very badly it’s huge and it looks like a really bad hickey and the last time I had a burn like this it turned into a scar and looked like a permanent hickey but it was on my stomach and a lot smaller and it’s summer brake so when I go back I am gonna have a lot of explaining that this new scar is not a hickey I am very scared

Pig With 1000 Subscribers: I can’t have my hair done cause once I got burned by an curling iron.

Sam: Do y’all not understand if you took care of your hair and focused on making it healthier it’s much easier to style and looks 10x better with a natural thick shine rather than brittle hair do to all the damage from heat your causing
