How To: Harsh Brassy Yellow To Ash Brown Hair At Home

After I used Colorfix on my orange Arctic Fox hair, I was left with a crazy brassy yellow. I kinda expected that since I used pretty much neon dyes. I couldn't find any videos about going from that color to an ashy brown so I figured I would make it myself. The first dye I used in this video didn't quite get me what I wanted but it did tone down the crazy yellow for the next dye application. I would suggest doing two applications of the L'Oreal Paris Excellence Creme in Mocha Ash Brown (5AB) (the second dye I used) which I got from Target for $8.99. Keep in mind, if your hair is about my length, I used two boxes for each of the two applications. (So four boxes total.) Any less may not be enough.

*Not a professional* (obviously)

Here are all of the products I used or mentioned in the video (internet prices):

-Colorfix by One 'n Only from Sally Beauty ($13.29)

-Reusable black gloves from Sally Beauty ($2.69)

-Processing caps from Sally Beauty (around $3.00)

-Parting/hair coloring brush from Sally Beauty (around $3.00)

-Color mixing bowl from Sally Beauty ($2.49)

-L'Oreal Mocha Ash Brown (5AB) from Target ($8.99 each box, I got four of them) (sit 20 to 30 min after applied)

-Shimmer Lights purple shampoo from Target ($9.59)

-Renpure Thickening & Strengthening Shampoo from Target ($3.99)

-Renpure Thickening & Strengthening Conditioner from Target ($7.99)

And if you reeeally want the other stuff I used at fist for the first round (not suggested) it's:

-L'Oreal Superior Preference Cool Light Brown (6C) from Walmart ($8.97 each box)

Thanks for watching! I hope this helps.

I really didn't want to come on YouTube. Looking like radioactive vomit, but Jeremy really suggested that I help you guys out, because I'm frustrated okay typed in five different things, just to try to find what neon yellow hair dyed brown looks like, and I can't find anything so we're gon na figure out ourselves what It looks like, and if it looks like green muddy poop, then I'm gon na dye, my hair black Jeremy, really wants me to record this process of turning this recently color fixed hair into brown. We'Ll see what happens, a lot of people say you can do. Color fix more than once I looked up videos of people, color fixing neon, yellow hair, and they did it multiple times and nothing happened pretty much. So this is what we're gon na use just funny, because in my last video I talked about using this brand, but I use their way darker color. It did not come out how I want it, but this is the cool light brown, not the cool, darkest brown um. So this is my actual natural color right here. I don't think any of you guys knew that, but now you do we're gon na see if these cool tones actually cancel out this hard yellow. I think it would look nice if I purposefully did it like this, but it's just the result of me: color fixing my beautiful orange hair, like I'm like really missing right now, but it's very high maintenance. So I would like to just grow out my hair. You guys have no idea how happy I am right now that you all get to see how up my hair is. I freaking love it. Moving on what we're gon na be using in this video today is L'Oreal Paris, superior preference, light cool brown and it has cool tones on to be anti brass. I guess we'll see, but anti brass ends up being. Please please don't let my hair turn out green and muddy that one make me so sad. You guys I'm not gon na, go to a hairstylist and expect them to fix that. I that's that they can't do it. It'S just. I wouldn't want to put anyone through that. I do have a brush. This is a painting brush from Sally Beauty Supply. It'S got a nice little partner, I'm gon na really get into these yellow ass back areas. Before I even touch my ends and stuff, this brush, I believe, was only three dollars but I'll insert all the prices of everything in the description below. I also picked up this, which is hair color remover wipe for afterwards. When I probably have brown dial over here and my neck, I could have just gotten the bomb that you put on beforehand, but who knows where this stuff is gon na end up? So I got this because I don't want to put balm on my neck and then it ends up all over my arms. You know, let's see what happens, I got some super grippy gloves whoa. These are tight. They were not this tight last night, when I did my color fix. Let me just say that but yeah, I suppose what I'll start doing as being extremely honest with you guys and what my hair looks like. I leave it me record that every time I dye my hair, it's a learning process, so I'm going to go ahead and open these boxes. I got two of them because my hair has gotten a little bit longer and I think I'm gon na need two. So yeah, if you take a glimpse at my hair right now, this is exactly why I want to stop dyeing my hair for a while. So this is why I'm trying to achieve my natural brown. Obviously, if you are going to do this, the expected route, you just mix bottle one with bottle two and shake them up, but what I'm gon na do is dump both of these into my bowl and use my brush so that I can really get everything cuz. Last thing I want right now is splotchy here. That would really really upset me. That is like nothing. It'S just like no dye. I don't know if this is gon na be enough. Oh yeah, this thing is full, so cool. This should be enough. Oh, it's gon na be so runny. This is gon na get everywhere. I'M probably just gon na show you guys how I separate my hair, but after that I'm have to like do this over the sink, because it's extremely liquidy I'm gon na get mixing. Even though it's running it's kind of a good thing, because I'm gon na really need two bottles to go a long way, so we're ready, I'm gon na go ahead and leave it the way it is right now, because this is the part, that's always exposed. Oh, no, I guess I'll just go ahead and do the roots, because that just makes twice as much work and I'm just going darker, I'm not lightening anything, I'm really digging this brush. It works really well, like I said I'll, have everything listed below um, where I got it, how much it costs what it's called. I'M gon na get in here, really quick, because this part is also very stubborn. In the past, I've said that my side cut is really stubborn and someone made it clear to me why - and I was like wow. That'S super obvious. How did I not notice that there's nothing to keep the warmth then, on the part, that's shaved. So that's why this takes a lot longer to process, because it doesn't have anything keeping it warm, and we all know that warmth speeds up the process, my god, a brush makes such a difference. Can I just say cuz in the past, when I don't use a brush, it's really hard to be neat about things, we'll go ahead and use our separator and separate the hair and we'll keep going. This is how I'm gon na do things I'll see you guys when my hair is fully covered and saturated I'll, let you know what I'm gon na do next before my gloves get all disgusting and I won't be able to take them off to turn off the Camera the processing cap is on I'm really scared, but Jeremy. He helped me a lot making sure I didn't miss any of the streaks, because there were a bunch of streaks in the back and on the sides that he got it for me, even though it's taken forever to get to this point, I'm still gon na wait. 20, more minutes and we're gon na see what happens. I'M gon na just wash my hair with coolish water and ran pure thickening and strengthening conditioner so guys. This is the outcome of what I just did. There are spots that are low, yellow. You can see in the sunlight how they're still some of that yellow left in there. The fan is just making it look magical. What I think I'm gon na do is I'm gon na try really hard to search for a mocha ash brown kind of color which I've done before and it turned out amazing. I really need something to dull down those golden tones that are super stubborn. I didn't wear my hair dye shirt to Target, I promise, but I'm back from Target and I got L'Oreal Paris, excellence, cream, mocha, ash brown. I don't know why. I didn't just jump straight to that, but maybe I wanted to try something new. I don't know when trying something new didn't really pay off, but it said get rid of a lot of that neon yellow. So let's so, let's go to take two whoo. I hope psy hopes. So honestly, I think to save both of our time. I'M just gon na skip the hair dyeing part of this video jump straight to it. Take a shower. Do what I got ta do I'll, let you know what happens afterwards when we see if it was even worth doing again, which I'm sure it will be spot on. That'S the attitude that I need right now um, but I did get two boxes. I'M just gon na jump right to it this time, I'm honestly just gon na leave them in the bottle and just lather it up and do it that way just cuz last time with the brush and separating it took me so long but um. I think I'll be okay, this time, since it's not that far off from each other, the results anyways, I'm gon na, go ahead and say I'm pretty sure it's exactly what I want but well wait till tomorrow, but I'm gon na go ahead and use this dye. Wiper offer now to see if it removes tiny dots off of your door way that guys. This is the reveal it's not tomorrow, when I washed it directly after dying, I only used my red, pure conditioner, lukewarm water. I washed it once with purple shampoo to tone down some of my yellow, which I'll show you. You can only really see it. When I actually show you, then I used red pur shampoo. Then I used shimmer lights one more time, so basically I'm just kind of flopping. Back and forth. I mean it's not super yellow, but you can see how there's a little bit of yellow discoloration in here. It'S not that noticeable. This is the closest I've been to my natural color in a really long time - and I know if I keep using purple shampoo it'll - be as close as possible. These really ashy parts down here are my natural color they're, just slightly lighter, so I'm excited. I think the next thing I'm gon na do is probably a balayage. Just a few highlights here and there I'll definitely keep you guys posted for that probably gon na wait. A little bit longer to do that, of course, I'm gon na embrace this. While I have it so see you in the next video and thank you for watching. Also, I'm very sorry about how my hair looked in the beginning of this video, but Jeremy come here. Come on come on naked, you just don't have a shirt on it doesn't you're naked, but you have pants on okay, you do you're lying. Believe me guys she's lying anyways. He helped me a lot.

Ciera Carris: Your end result looked a lot like my natural hair color, and I got mocha ash brown and it’s the perfect color! Thank you for this, saved me a lot of time, money and stress. I had black hair and lightened it and now want to grow out my hair. Basically, tysm.

K A: just wanted to say I appreciate this video!! in a similar predicament with my grown out fiery-copper hair. LOVED it while it was gorgeous and bright but so over the muddled colour it's become as it has faded. back to brown it is ~

Ellie Elias: YAS The exact video I needed! Thank you for helping us all out :D

Jordan Fronck: thank you for this!!!! how long in between the first and second box dye did you wait? i had arctic fox cosmic sunshine, did a round of l’oréal similar to yours, and then i’m having the same issue (still very yellow in the sunlight) so i need to dye brown over it again but not sure how long i should wait

Jeanne Marie: You have been every color! but yeah. I love your vids. I was brunette a few months ago and used a vid of yours to go blond. You got this!! And I cut 7 in of hair off too. Be fearless. Be brave!! The mocha brown color looks

Alex G: This is exactly what I needed! I colored my hair Sunset Yellow (Arctic Fox), and have to dye it brown for work, hopefully it turns out good!

Caroline Boves: Aw!!! You remembered!! it came out beautiful!!! I just couldn’t figure why would you put a color that’s exactly what you and every other blonde fights to disappear??? Red orange and yellow... but you rocked it. There is a way of getting rid of semi permanent dye like the one you had on very effectively... it’s a mixture of purple shampoo, 20 vol developer, dish soap and baking soda... she added a drop of olaplex but for us is Ion drops and believe it or not IT WORKED LIKE A CHARM!!!! and she had several layers of different colors semi and bleach... that maybe would have helped you not get those red orange tones... you still beautiful!!!!

Athena: THANK YOU! You’re like one of the only people on YouTube who have done this for yellow hair!

NativeNYerChicHK: You needed some red in there before the brown dye to get the full effect of the color when you’re coloring over bleached/yellow hair - For future reference. Would have probably come out perfect the first time if you’d done it over your previous orange hair!

Casey J: Thank you Jeremy for convincing her I needed this lol

Narconia: Most ash hair colors use a green or blue base, which help cover green counters red while blue counters orange. To counter the golden yellow you had you needed a purple bases. Using the ash based dyes you used help counter the orangish yellow and left you with the golden yellow which the 2nd dye help a little as that color has a tiny bit of purple in it but not much. A toner or a purple shampoo and conditioner would have worked as well.

Gauda: I love your hair dying videos ❤️❤️

Jess Goodson: This was EXACTLY what I needed

Renee Baer: Thank you so much ❤️❤️. My hair was orange, and you saved me with this video. I really enjoyed your video and honesty ❤️❤️

Gina: My hair is really dark brown almost black from box dye. But I wanted to dye my hair the light brown you got now for so long, but I’m too afraid to try it.

Maria Fernanda Villa Gil: If you want to go back to orange, try igora L-77, 8.77, 0.77 , it will fade to a after several washes blorange an is a lot less maintainance

Karla G: I love the neon yellow!

Kkfard lol: I bleached my front two pieces and then dyed it dark blonde but its literally yellow! ( i had virgin black hair) and i still wangt some highlight to it so im going to try this outttt

Rinnie Mac: Looks great!

Zacharias Frid: I've been looking for this kind of video so thank you

risingsun49: You need to go darker like 5 or 4 ash brown. Look at a color wheel purple tones yellow , blue tones orange , green tones red your lucky the ash 6 didnt turn your yellow hair green. Try going to a beauty supply store get either light or med ash brown hair color. If you had toned the hair before coloring it would have come out better. Wella mkaes great toners T14 tones yellows.

Maja: Wow,that's great result!

Kathy Chavarria: Would you say this is lighter or darker than mushroom brown? I get confused when I try to see a true mushroom brown, which is the next color I’ll be going for.i don’t know what color number to go for:/ This color looks lovely on you btw:)

Angela McGowan: PLEASE HELP me I went from not dying my hair for 2 1/2 months should of left well enough alone, keep in mind I dyed my hair cherry crush for YEARS I am 51, The lady told me to bleach but I first used color oops to try to get out it looked horrible, then bleach now I look like this

Brande DS: Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for posting. I couldn't find any answers online either except you!

DCB: You're hilarious! smart comic timing and talent. Try your hand at stand up. Seriously. You are GOOD. You look great! :)

Luvz Kittens: Lol don’t worry even box hair dye with ash tones helps fix the orange mine is like yours right now and I’m not sweating it, anytime you want to bleach your hair lighter and it turns orange and yellow all you have to do is get the ash blonde or ash brown dyes and the orange and yellow goes away. Plus cheaper than the salon

Hopelessromanticca: This helped so much thx u

Miss Lily: Radioactive vomit lol . The end result is beautiful!

Lynn Michelle: On the 2nd round of dyeing did you mix the developer with the color or just the color straight out of the bottle?

Kimberley Wood: The first colour acted as a filler, so what it did was introduce pigment back into the hair. The second colour will be the actual colour.

Nicole Smith: I think you could actually rock the neon yellow. What was neon looked good up against your beautiful skin tone and eyes! I kinda wanna see your whole head neon yellow! Hehe. You look awesome in all colors, but i think yellows and orange tones look good on you. Totally my opinion, you and most may not agree hehe

Arianna Cacciatore: Looks really good

Ellie Lioli: u look so pretty! U have really pretty eyes! Thanks for the video!!!

Déja Vue: Thats how my hair looks like after first attempt of bleach

Zoe: God dam that looks great, you're gorgeous

brightphoebus: I like the barking. : ) You're a pretty girl, I hope you grow out the shaved area too, that too needs fixing ; )

Julia Pilya: You’re cute! Thanks for the video

Grecia Solis: Girl what mascara do you use

Lyle Heath: You look like Becky lynch lol just kidding
