#MydentityColorbyGuyTang

I feel my hair growing when I do that. Oh there, you are I'm with my client Amy and, what's the last time, I've seen you over a year all right over you. That'S usually when I see you today we're gon na talk about how we're gon na highlight and refresh your hair look at this she's. Turning to pubes I'd like fungus, Brown, fungus Brown, something nature related. This ain't feels like a mushroom blonde, there's something like that. Sexy fungus look here. We come all right, let's go all right, so let's take a look at Amy's hair where her natural color starts just a little bit of gray hair. So that's not a big deal, but her natural hair is very dark. A level-two. I would say you can see where I based her last time with like a level. Six has gotten warm because it's faded out over a year's time down through here she has an ombre where we took her up to a level 9 and 10. What I'm gon na do today is retouch her base and that's very important. So let's look at the swatch book here: wow she's, a level two, as I predicted her blonde, will have to be lifted to at least a level 10 in order to achieve any type of cool blonde results. My first formulation to lift up her base will be six AAS her base, but I'm also gon na add in dark shadows. Dark shadows is calibrated at a lower ammonia base, so it prevents a hot root, so we're gon na head over to my color bar. So, in order to lift her base, we have to use permanent color and the permanent color is in the white box, not a black box. The first formula: it's gon na be equal parts, 6a, a and dark shadows. If you want more neutralization, you can actually add a booster in the formula, so let's go ahead and do that I can choose aqua, blue or turquoise. Turquoise has more of that greener tone. So if I want to really mute the scalp with red, I'm gon na use turquoise, if I want to mute something that is orange, then I use blue since we don't really care much for orange, let's go ahead and use an aqua blue booster at the root. Ah, so the second formula is gon na be 6a a with 8a I'm adding a 8 into it, because now we're talking about the cold chef's anything through the mids doesn't have heat from the scalp. So it needs further acceleration because we can I'm going to add the turquoise booster into this formula to so, first formula goes on your ratash when dealing with dark hair, I want to control as much warmth as possible and I want it to be seamless so when She comes back in a year. We won't have it be more keishon light all right, we're back from her pre, basing as you can see when I lift her hair up, the demarcation line is gone and also her natural hair. Color has been shifted. Look at that beautiful brown without a hint of brass all right, so I know a lot of pair of besties is gon na. Ask me: why did I pre base her only to lift her back out so remember? I have to even out the canvas before I can go back in because she's, a natural level too we're not deposited a level six Ashe we're moving up one, two, three four four levels, so we remember level six has orange in here right so because we've deposit Level: six, a a it completely mute out all the orange, and now it looks very natural and neutral, and that's why you get this result. A lot of people say a color treated hair is harder to lift, but it's not harder to lift when you were actually lighting it. It'S only hard to lift when you actually went darker so now we're gon na go in with big nine bigger is better. Oh everything is talking you're, so extra, so she could see. I already finished, foiling one side of Amy's head you'll see me leave some of the foils open-air because I did have to overlap because there was some darker strands in there when you backcomb. The hair is diffused so when it grows out, there's going to be some dark strands mixed in, but I want the ends to be brighter anyway. So what I do is I left it outside the foil. It just varies depending on which section has more darkness, but all the darkness goes so low that I have no choice but to overlap instead of going horizontally across. I actually go slightly diagonal sike slightly pivot from her ear, so that way angles outwards just like that. Hold it with tension on the ends and do one push swipe it on the foil, so I have two lengths of foils here. A short one helps me: do an overlay on pieces. I want to lay out of the foils and a long ones. Gon na be the main one I'm going to be using and laying it right underneath. So I always do a slight little comb just to spread the hair out and don't be afraid to use a lot of product underneath her nape. I do drag it a lot lower. You need a little darkness in there, so it creates shadows. So I'm going to take the short foil over like just like that all right. So I already did three back-to-back foils here so now, I'm gon na do a thin slice. Diagonally sloping down so make sure that this section is as thin as possible. If you want maximum diffusion, lift the hair up and back home underneath and push it into the scalp just like that, and then push it again right on the top. When you get up to the top, you see that W there's some dark strands they're everywhere and if I don't overlap it what's. Gon na happen is you're gon na have oranjee brassy lines underneath this is what I'm gon na. Do. I'M gon na paint on the foil and I'm gon na. Stick it underneath this other foil, so there's adherence and comb that down flat. So I'm going to use my short foil, I'm just gon na lay over the top. I'M just gon na leave the ends out. All right, so I'm already at the front of Amy's hair. As you can see, I foil everything in the front I'll be directing it towards me, and I do the right side. First, before I go into her left side that way she could still breathe on this side. So look at how many foil she has in her back here. You can see that her whole entire head is already done, except for the top front right side. I am just gon na fold the foil out the way, so I have easier access and when working around the hairline, I make sure to keep the baby hair out. You don't want to highlight these baby hairs because they're gon na look like breakage, so I'm gon na over direct and back home into her scalp äj -- get close to the scalp as possible. So I'm doing that two back close to the scalp foiling about three of them and then, as I transition back, I'm gon na take it lower it didn't higher it didn't lower and then higher, so it mimics of balayage, oh god, the food tastes. So good right. You used to get a guy for a long time that was kind of insecure. Am I correct yeah, that's correct about being Asian. It kind of made me feel like am I supposed to be ashamed to be Asian as well? I think that it has a lot to do with the lack of media representation. For so long. You don't have representation, you feel like yeah, you don't have a role model when you feel like there's something missing out there use that as a chance for you to put yourself out there and be something that was a void for you. So confidence is really the key here that makes a man attractive. Well, it makes a person attractive right because obviously I'm with you, because I'm attracted to you sometimes finding your own confidence takes a lifetime yeah. I think we all have insecurities as human beings we're human. You have insecurities, I have insecurities, I always say you got ta, be secure with your insecurities exactly when I encounter anyone who's insecure. I can totally tell I could sense it and what I do is self like making them feel bad for insecure. I do the best. I can to help guide them to find their own strengths. They don't know their own strength. They never talk about what I'm insecure about. No, you didn't. You see the scar in my back yeah. I actually got this from removing a mole and it got worse and worse. I used to hide it now, I'm like whatever it is, what it is. I consider it like a battle scar. It just proves that you've been through something and I'm okay with it growing up. I was really insecure. About being short, I felt like a child and I think, like people would pet me, as I got older, it's like. Oh, I love high heels and it's not to hide my insecurities, but it just happens to give me the height and I'm wearing something that I like now when you look at pop stars, a lot of them aren't that tall Selena Gomez. It'S not that tall ariana grande is not that's. Alright, that's kind of representation. Don'T you think yeah exactly, let's start being that person that we don't see in the medium, let's put ourselves out there drink to that there we go, Cheers alright, guys we're back with abies hair. So you can see her hair is super super blond. This is so important why we lift the base, because, if we didn't lift the base, what's gon na happen, it's gon na look like black and white, so by browning out her base. It enables me to blend and color melt down. So when her hair grows out, it's gon na look more of like a natural ombre feel because of the high contrast you can slightly see the demarcation. We'Re gon na create three formulas using the naked and ice cold series, a shadow root. This color merge it and blend it down. So as it wears over time is gon na be seamless. Here we are so I'm gon na have three formulas, so my first formula is gon na utilize naked 7, 6 IG 9 IG. This is gon na, be the shower vataj, so the second formulation is 9 9 G with naked 8. This is going to be the midsection format. The formula around her facing on the ends is gon na be naked, 10 and 9ig ice cold. If you want to make things more interesting, you can always add one of the booster cents. So let's say we want to add a little more iridescent to the color. You can always squeeze in ultraviolet booster into each boring. Look all right, so we're gon na apply the first formula on her Batoche and go all the way down to the mids. Now don't be afraid to drag this formula down because we have to create that shout out to blend the second formulation is really important, so it looks seamless so creating a mid-tone ensure that the color hombres and blends down smoothly and then the ends formula is so Important for so many reason, if the ends of porous it won't grab too dark and too matte. It enables the ends to look natural like her hair's been sunkissed, so now we're gon na let her color process for a full 25 minutes, yawns girl, yeah, so fun. I did not know you had done you of all the years. I'Ve been with you and been doing your hair. I did not know you helped me build confidence. I love your hair because it looks so natural. I love it so much. It has different colors. I can't even describe I was like saying: it's mushroom blonde mushroom, ombre fungus, Portobello click thumbs up subscribe, make sure you hit that Bell. So you get all the notification when I upload new videos, and would you like people to follow you to on the Instagram? We'Re not really. I don't really care. I just care about you. Oh oh, my god, you don't care about having more followers. How do you feel about being an influencer, or do you want be an influencer? What'S an influencer, you know whatever body you don't need to know. I love you much bye.

TheBakedBean: Your descriptions of what your doing are so well explained, the results are always beautiful and your clients are always so happy with the results. Such a great hairdresser I love your videos guy ♥️

Dante Velasquez: Very nice :-) Remember when we would just do highlights and then just tone once lol No shadow roots, no color melts. These multi-process colors are so much better.

pam mcguire: Mushroom fungus blonde. Haha! She’s so adorable! Love the color Guy! And the base color I’m obsessed with. These are the types of colors I do in my salon a lot. Everyone asks for those shades. I love that guy used the boosters too. So much love for this video. Thank you Guy.

The talk you had in this one hit me right in the feels, my friend. Inspiration to go be the role model i wished I had. Vanen Perez: Qué tal subtítulos en español para que podamos entender tu arte también ❤

Dawn de los Muertos: Looks beautiful and will grow out perfectly! Oh, how I wish I had Guy Tang in my life! I've had two-toned hair for 4 years, my natural level 2-3 dark brown/black, a little gray here and there, with naturally white temples, which ended up going with temples and all under hair from ear level back and around, all lightened and it's been red to tangerine to purple. I'm tired of it, it's too hard to keep up, I want one color all over, the white bits will act as highlights. I woke up this very morning ( my mom died a year ago today, rough year) and decided to go smokey steel all over. Wish me luck on this one!

Kelsey Matthews: Watching you do hair is mesmerizing <3

GlowByCandlelight: This man is a legit artistic hair color genius! I'm always blown away at the transformation. I would love for Guy to do my hair...... I'm sure so would countless others! A girl can dream though. Such an amazing human. ♥️

Amelie Berthelette: The importance of coloring the base prior to lifting the hairReally really loved it all the Education and Messages and the Cuteness of you two I love when she says What is an Influencer

PRIYANKA NIMBALKAR: Hey Tang, can you do the transformation of a brown model please? I have an extra long hair and very confused about which color would suit my skin tone. This is a real struggle for almost every dark girl out there i guess. If you could show us your magic, that would be amazing and it will help with our confidence as well( and we can step out of our comfort zone) . ❤️

Vanessa: Absolutely gorgeous result, thank you for sharing your knowledge

marissa squeeky goldberg: You did a great job, She looks so beautiful! I know what you mean about being the role model you wanted to see in life. I used to get made fun of for how pale i am .. now I try to embrace my own self love and show others how they are awesome. Thank you for doing the same. ❤️Please keep up the great work, you do more than change peoples hair. You make people’s lives better. . @squeekyart / @squeeky_sparkles

Mary Howell: How cute is she! She’s so adorable “what’s an influencer”! That comment made her an influencer!!! This video was one of the best I watched it all the way thru! You guys together made it fun! Thanks for all the tips! After 12 years of being a stylist I never even thought about not painting so high up on the lower back quads. I’ve just always went b&f from hi to low for the painted Balay. effect but that tip is genius! Pure “guy tang gold” thanks

Yas Cantu: I love love how your videos are not only hair transformations but also soul transformations

Elizabeth B.: After the shock of my big brother passing away, I started noticing a streak of bright white hair began growing out. I was only 26 and it was so obvious to everyone because it was right at the top of my hairline just left of center part. I was so insecure, I made sure it was always covered up with color/powder/filler—even resorting to box dye during desperate times. Then I realized, this streak is a badge of honor—every time I see it, I’m reminded of not only my brother’s memory, but the fact that I survived the deepest, darkest days/weeks/months of grieving after he passed. I’ve been rocking my gray streak ever since, and you know what? People dig it!! I saw a “skunk stripe” trending on TikTok and was like, “can we think of a cooler name for it please?!”

Coffee at the Beach: this does look so natural! once again, just the all around MASTER of ALL color- from making someone natural to unicorn and everywhere

Sara Saud: I LOVE your work, I didn't just watch all of your videos, I re-watched them over and over. It's just too flawless!!! I have a question and hope you would answer me. My base is a natural level 2 I guess. I had orange tones in the middle (my hair doesn't left easily) I want to have a clean canvas like you did so I could add more highlight. If I use an almost black permanent color like you did, will I be able to bleach safely? Or should I use a softer ash brown so it won't ruin my hair? I heard a lot that dark permanent colors are sooo hard to left and takes sessions and time.

Styles Stayin Gold: This is so pretty! Also, love that you’re telling us to own our insecurities

scangirl2149: Her hair looks amazing. Such a beautiful young women.

Jayna Thompson: I love how he gets so into his formulas and gets so scientific with it!!!

time tells: Such a gorgeous natural color really suits her!!

Liz M: Your passion is contagious! Love this.

ana: Ficou perfeito

Johanna Oksanen: I love client's and your stories i always feel so good after watching your videos! Thank you!

starrchaser1: This is so gorgeous! Do you think you could do more videos of color in natural curly/kinky hair? I would love to see your handiwork on hair like mine. Keep up the good work!

Sevi Regis: You're the best teacher besides being a great hair artist. Love the outcome

Kaitlyn Roberts: Love the flowy dress she wore at the end! Her hair came out awesome! Wholesome content so much love!

itsa jones: Everytime I watch a new video I wait anxiously for "rootage" lol On a more serious note I love how you go into such detail about each step.

K: This free education is everything!! Gorgeous result too!

Kerrianne Fudge: She looks fabulous. You’re an amazing artist.

Alicia Dixon: I love these style of videos. Like, teach us what you’re doing, show us your pure heart and soul, give us some life advice and inspiration and then reveal that beautiful ass hair. Casual. I’m also an educator for a brand and a story I reference a ton is when you gave bunny her black streaks back. How at the end of the day, you were helping her feel like the best version of herself. That’s what it’s about.

Sara Marie: Guy your videos make me so happy! You are my hair inspiration, and why I love doing what I do! ♥️

tara ッ: thanks for talking about insecurity and everything.. it means a lot to me bc im extremely insecure about everything in my body and even about my personality and stuff.. so thank u again, i love u❤

Peggirl: your customers hair always looks so natural. absolutely beautiful.

Glam and Goth: Omg She is so adorable!! I love the style of your videos Guy (lol that sounds so rude when I say that sentence in my head). Bleached (destroyed) my hair Platinum and I'm trying to fix it currently lol XD your videos are helping me learn SO much. Thank you for all the awesome videos that I'm binge watching at 4 am :D

amy stokes: Guy, how difficult do you think it would be for me, a stylist for almost 28 years, to transition from Redken to your awesome color bar? I tried Joico for a short time and ended up going back to Redken. I love seeing what implements you’ll be using every time. Does Cosmoprof carry that enormously awesome foil processing cap????? You are truly inspirational to this old dog wanting to continue to learn new tricks!!!

Gina Atkinson: She’s So good!! She works the hair flips it’s Porta-Bellaaaa (said in Wasabi voice) I love this one! The color is perfect! And the message is everything ❤️❤️❤️ fill the gaps that are missing, be your own hero obsessed

However, IF people subscribe to your channel, not only will they become better at their profession; they'll become better people, & the rest of us will improve as well. As a teacher, I wish these badly needed lessons in Being Humane 101 were a core component of the educational curriculum.

Ritaaw T: Hi Guy! What would you recommend for people who have naturally blond hair? I feel like shadow root wouldn’t work it that case, would it? I have brown hair myself but I was just wondering
