Have fun with your hair!

Christina x

Hi there Welcome back to Hair Romance's Good Hair Q & A series., I'm Christina, and today's question is all about curly hair cuts.. I had a question from A.Ricotta on YouTube, who asked which haircuts or haircut styles are best for curly or wavy hair., And also it's fun. As I love your name, because ricotta is one of my favorite cheeses. I have many., But this is a really interesting topic and curly hair cuts. There'S a lot of confusion and a lot of .... I would almost say controversy about: what's the best one for curly, hair. Lots of people say, there's a right way or a wrong way to do it with curly hair.. But personally I like to find what works for your hair, so I'm gon na run through some different techniques and talk about my haircut and some things to avoid.. First thing I want to note is that I'm not a hairdresser.. I have lots of hairdresser friends.. I have enormous respect for hairdressers, but I'm talking about this topic from someone with curly hair who's had a lot of different haircuts, good and bad over the years.. The main controversy with curly hair cuts talks about whether you should have your hair cut, wet or dry.. Wet cuts are the standard in the hairdressing industry, where they'll wash your hair. First then cut your hair straight and then dry it and style it. The way you like. There's been a lot more talk now and it seems to be the preferred way in the curly community to have your hair cut dry.. That is when you come in, with your hair, already styled to the salon and they'll cut it curl by curl and work it out that way. Personally. For me, I prefer a wet cut still.. I, like the variety and the versatility that I get from a wet cut, which means I can wear my hair, curly or straight. Because of the type of wavy curls I have by their nature. They'Re quite uneven and they'll be different from day-to-day.. So if I was to have a curly hair cut today, that was on dry hair, I'd end up with sections that are much longer than others, and then I might wash my hair and restyle it and it'd be completely different.. I know my hair will be so uneven., So for my type of curls, a wet cut is best.. You might find that if you have tight, very uniform, very even curls that a dry cut is going to work best for you., The DevaCut is a term. You hear all the time in `` curly, girl'' forums, and it refers to a particular haircut technique.. This was developed at the Devachan salons in New York and is a dry curl by curl technique, and this was also formalised by Lorraine Massey in her book'The Curly Girl. Handbook'. One of the advantages of a DevaCut is your hairdresser, can see exactly how your curls sit and how they're going to frame your face.. It also means there's less chance that you'll have a haircut. That'S too short because they can see how much your hair shrinks up when it's dry. Another popular curly hair technique is called the Oiudad method, and this is also from the chain of salons Ouidad and also the product line as well.. This is a kind of hybrid technique of wet, first and then dry, cutting to finish. Ouidad starts as a wet cut and they have a technique, that's sort of like slicing into your curls.. This is only if you want to thin out your hair and then also finishing with your hair curly and cutting it dry, just to make sure that it's all even and looks right.. This is probably the closest to the technique that my hairdresser uses.. He would incorporate some of these techniques to customise a hairstyle for me., And this type of Ouidad technique is also quite popular with cutting straight hair.. You might cut into it when it's wet style it and then reshape it just slightly to suit your client's face.. Some hairdressers will advertise themselves as curly hair specialists and they may have trained in either the DevaChan style and do Deva cuts or in the Ouidad style and they'll, usually advertise that, because their courses that have paid to attend., Though lots of hairdressers, may not have done This but they have experience with all different types of curls and the most important thing is to find a hairdresser that listens to you.. Now I want to talk about one hairdressing, implement that you don't need for curly hair, and that is thinning scissors.. I don't know if you've ever had a run-in with these.. I have many times over the years and thinning scissors or a particular hairdressing scissor, which has a blade like comb on one side and a regular scissor on the other. And what they do is, rather than actually thinning into the curls and cutting different shapes in it. Just sort of cuts out a portion of your hair as they're going., While this can work quite well, if you want to have more of a like a Farrah flick kind of an 80s style, they end up giving your hair more of a thin stringy. Look at the ends as they take off too much for curls. And they don't allow your curls to form properly, which means you have lots of layers, sticking out all the way down each curl and if you have a hairdresser, come towards you with thinning scissors. I really urge you just to leave the salon Just run out, Don't say no. Just leave and ask to have someone else finish: the haircut for you.. I didn't really want to mention this hair cut technique, but I see it so much on YouTube. So we're going to talk about the unicorn cut. And also I want to say that I'm not recommending this style at all.. The unicorn cut is a technique where you can do your own hair cut at home by putting your hair up in a big ponytail. On top of your head, almost like a unicorn and then just cutting straight across the ponytail., The idea behind this is a hairdressing technique to cut all your layers in a certain length which is also known as the shag cut and the problem is it's really difficult To actually cut hair evenly across so you end up with a hair cut, that's halfway between a shag and halfway between a mullet, which probably will need a little bit more correction from a professional. So by all means do your home haircuts at your own risk.. There'S a reason: they're hairdressing scissors cost hundreds of dollars. They're, incredibly sharp precision instruments and in Australia it takes three to four years for someone to complete an apprenticeship to become a hairdresser.. So please trust the professionals and find one that you trust as well.. Don'T be tempted to cut your split ends at home with any pair of scissors. You're, more likely going to end up doing more damage.. A blunt scissor will actually create a blunt end, which will in turn split more so, while you think you're solving the problem now you're only going to cause a problem, that's even bigger in the long run.. Now I always get asked about my haircut and at the moment I haven't had a haircut in quite a few months because I've been travelling, but it's still fairing quite well, because I get my haircut with long layers and I have a few shorter pieces here around The front. In the past, I've had a haircut, that's been known as what's called a V-cut or sometimes a U-cut, which is where at the back, my hair is cut in layers down to a V or you can have it into a? U, which has slightly more rounded edges. These types of layered cuts, work really well for curly hair because they allow your hair to spring up, particularly if you've got longer hair.. They take some of the weight out to allow the curls to take shape all around your hair, quite well.. For me, I've gone back too long because I prefer the volume that I have in my hair and it makes it easier to braid with longer layers. In my hair., But I'd 100 % recommend a U-shaped cut, in particular, if you're looking to get some more lift and bounce in your curls. If they're, if the weight of your hair is making them hang down too long.. I also really love short haircuts for curly hair.. One of my all-time favorite hairstyles is when I was growing on a pixie cut and I had a layered bob that was above my shoulders.. It'S such a fun, hairstyle, really versatile and really easy to wear.. Definitely check out my Pinterest boards if you're looking for some curly hair inspiration and, like I said in my last video, you definitely want to take in photos to show you a hairdresser, so you can know exactly what you're both talking about., I'm really curious to know. What'S your favorite way to have your curly hair cut, let me know in the comments below. And give this video a like if you're enjoying the series and subscribe so you're first to see the next video. Have fun with your hair and I'll see you soon, bye,

Zoe Froon: Greetings from Cape Town South Africa I can't say thank you enough for your wonderful tips you have saved my curls. Keep up the wonderful tips on behalf of my curls a big thank you

Janice Jewell: Getting my hair cut stresses me out. I have had so many bad ones. Thanks for this video as well as the tips to take pictures with you of what hair styles you like. Unfortunately I am past due for a cut.

ADNZ35: You are so right about thinning scissors. I asked for a hairdresser with curly hair experience and she gave me one of the worst haircuts I've ever had. It took months to grow the style out but left an even longer mistrust of all hairstylist. When I finally went back to a different salon I once again left with my very frizzy but a least with longer layers. I had my best cut and style with a male stylist. I mentioned my other disasters and he couldn't believe a senior stylist did what she did.

Zoe Borzi: Totally disagree. I went to so many „professionals“ and my always turned out like crap. I think you can definitely cut your ends at home, just leave the shaping and other more difficult stuff to someone you can trust. Especially when you are in a region where hairdressers don‘t know nothing about curly hair.

Emilie Bouchard: Definitely it’s about learning your hair patterns for types of hair cuts! I used to go for the V cut in my teens but it wasn’t good for my hair as the underneath ends up sitting straighter and the short parts of my hair (and the parts closer to my face) were much more curly, so it would look like a weird long curl mullet

Deborah Nelson: Great info! I flat out tell any hairdresser..."NO THINNING SHEARS EVER! My current (& fav) HD has curly hair too so she totally understand my hair. She uses her scissors & a razor!

Sophie Lambie: I needed this video! It's sooo hard to find a video about curly hair from someone with curls like mine. They're uneven and wavy and different all the time. This was golden x

Julia Bizos: I love your channel!! And your hair is sooooo beautiful!❤️ I agreed with everything in this video and am so glad you make them. I have done a unicorn cut and can say it would not work for cutting a big length change but if you take off and inch it gives really pretty layers. Thankyou and please keep making vids ! ❤️ Edit: I have very similar hair sort of 3a with few 2c waves

Monika: Ok so I followed her advice and cut my 3b hairs today with wet cut. It looks so much better after drying and I have been cutting my hairs for 5 years now and I would say this is what works best for me. Thank u so much

Sharon T: Omg I’ve had those awful thinning scissors that took a year for my hair to recover! I’ve also had that unicorn cut (didn’t know it was a term) by a hairdresser in the 90s. The things we do go through ‍♀️‍♀️

Cheryl Anne: The Unicorn cut?! I have to laugh! Back in the very early seventies, my friend and I decided to Shag our own hair. We did exactly what you said, or rather she did because she went first. When I saw her finished product, I said oh hell no I'm not doing that to my hair!! She was really mad at me for not going through with the deal, but my hair is very curly, as opposed to hers, and I knew it was going to be a nightmare for me, plus her hair looked absolutely terrible! I did end up paying for a shag haircut not long after that, and it was a total disaster. But I know it would have been a whole lot worse if I had done that unicorn cut when my friend did hers. So 50 years later, and nothing has changed! People still giving themselves bad home haircuts!

A Ricotta: Oh! Thank you so much Christina! By the way, i also love cheese and ricotta is really my last name (i’m brazilian but with Italian grandparents). I actually ASKED for thinning scissors once, thinking it would work for me (sometimes my hair ends up in a funny triangle shape). Obviously it didn’t work so never again! I also like to have it cut wet with long layers, shoulder length. I have already adopted your tips on gel cast and photographing my own haircut when it looks great. Sorry for the long text

T M H: I have 2b/2c hair. What works for me is cutting it straightened, dry (of course). I cut angled face framing layers from cheekbones to the tips of the length. Like an elongated bowl cut.

artdollz: I have 2b/c hair which I need to have trimmed very soon. I've been getting cut in the 'U' shape which has worked best for my curly hair type, but the stylist has used thinning shears to thin out the bulk as my hair is extremely coarse and thick. I would like to avoid having that done as it leaves too many fuzzy pieces sticking out everywhere, but otherwise what is the best way to thin out thick hair? Don't want too much thinning out just enough to take away the bulk. Thanks!

Delphi333: I've had a few Devacuts in my time...they were OK - looked pretty good BUT with the Devacut you're stuck in that if you want to go straight it looks really off. So I've just gone back to long layers...gives me more flexibility since I waffle so much on curly vs. straight.

JAK: I've always hated my curly hair. Some hairdressers call it 'ethnic' or 'hebe' hair. I'm white with a Celt Saxon background so that's why. People used to tell me I'll appreciate my curls when I'm older. Now I'm sixty and it's thinning I'm glad to have curls all the way down to the roots.

sidsid 95: I've had my hair dresser do the unicorn cut on me and I loved it! I might recommend it of you have someone who knows what their doing, but not if you plan on doing it yourself!

Jessica Noneya: I so wish I had the courage to go back to my short curly bob I had in my early 20s! We had practically the same haircut ♡

MECFSWarrior: I’m surprised you aren’t a hairdresser. You seem so incredibly knowledgeable on hair! I would love to know how you learned everything you know and how you developed your gorgeous hair style and philosophy

taigarose: I finally did the big chop after transitioning for about a year and I was genuinely happy but I wanted to get it “professionally” fixed but she used thinning scissors on me and now I have to wait for my hair to heal back again

1627boys: I am a hairstylist with 30 years of experience. I also have natural curly hair. I let a stylist cut my hair with a razor and I found I would never have a razor to my hair again unless I was having a short hair cut. I will never have thinning shears cut on my hair either. I found that with my coarse hair that a razor and thinning shears only caused more spit ends. Find a hairstylist that has natural curly hair because they have a clue as to how to cut your hair.

Kathi Neumann: There were so many great tips in this video! Thanks for all the advice. Also, I LOVE the throwback pic of you! I'd love to see more pics of your many hairstyles from the past.

Rachael: I got a v cut when I was wearing my hair straight. Now that I am wearing it naturally (2c/3a curls) it looks even better!

Aura Wright Media: I have had some really good bob's but it's long right now. The short hair is so bouncy, and its's hard to get that kind of movement with longer hair. I'm thinking of some kind of V or U cut now, I def need to go have it cut soon regardless.

Ann4U2000: I have 2b, 2c and even some 3a level waves in my hair. My hair is thinner, low porosity and fine. And angled bob is working for me right now...pretty well actually. But I am now in the process of growing out the layers and to right above my shoulders...as I figured out that longer ,lightly layered waves are fuller for me.

clarytee: I tried the unicorn cut when I had no other option. Do not recommend! It didn't even look too bad but it was super uneven which became noticeable when I put my hair up. I also accidentally took too much off.

Mixed Psychosis: Hi, love your videos! Thank you for all the great info. I recently discovered (yup, feel free to laugh) that my hair is not naturally straight but more of a 2c-3a wavy. My question is, would it be awkward to take my own shampoo/conditioner/styling product to my haircut? I mean, would that offend my hair stylist? I'm planning on wet haircut with my regular hair stylist that I've known for years. Thank you very much for your time.

Wake Up Smell The Coffee: I wish I looked at this video before I ran into my appt. I knew not to let the hairstylist use thinning scissors in my hair, but it had been 5 months since I had gotten a desperately-needed haircut. I also only just started to learn how to take care of my curly hair 5 months ago, having straightened it all my life. So I had FORGOTTEN about those thinning sheers. I sat there wondering to myself... was I supposed to avoid those or not bcs I can’t rmbr. I’m just... crying now (not literally) bcs all I had to do was just look it up or see a vid to recall what to do. I got too desperate with getting a haircut. -_-“ smh. I’ll have to fix this in 3 months when my hair grows out some more. It’s already too short to cut some more.

Kell Doe: I have a u/v shape hair cut, but without the layers. I had layers all my life and started to really dislike them. I just recently found out I have wavey hair ant it looks good with this hair cut, had loads of compliments already.

Marleen G.: I do a home-cut. I have fingertip length wavy/curly hair. I make a ponytail on the top of my head and cut a bit off, on dry, end of the week (pre-wash) hair, when my waves have sagged out and I can easily brush through it. My last trim was November 2016, when I was hip length. I grew it out to fingertip in about 2 years. I got the idea for the cut from a book called, Haircutting for dummies". There's another technique in there, and that is making a ponytail on the top of your head and cutting a chunk off. I prefer the other way. I have a deep V and layers all the way from hip to fingertip. It really shines on hair that is textured. I think Lana Summer here on YT has that same cut, but she has much tighter curls. She also has a video on it. These cuts aren't bad, but you have to do them on hair that is *at least* bra strap to waist length. Shorter and you'll have 80s rocker dude vibes. ;)

GraceWright: Tbh if you want to find the best hairdresser for curly hair you just need to explore and find one that actually has naturally curly hair, some have done courses on how to cut curly hair but i personally believe that the only person that will give you a cut that truly suits you is the one that has curly hair! just my opinion and what ive found works best for me

Gina-Marie Ourganjian Cheeseman: Thinning scissors are really necessary for my very thick, coarse hair. Without them I end up with bushy looking hair. I also end up with headaches.

Tegan M: I had recently gotten my hair trimmed and talked to her about naturally accentuating my curly and she lightened it and since then my curls have been very bouncy and cuter

Independent Creations: For me the V or U shape cut gives me a tail curl... as the hair in the center back is not resting on my shoulders so ends up a longer curl when I let it dry naturally

Lynelle Thompson: I use a Creaclip on dry hair and I do not straighten my hair ever before cutting. I only do a long layer and then a second layer of just my crown of my head and I cut this 1 inch shorter than the previous layer. My cut comes out perfect. It would be very expensive for me to get this kind of a cut from a stylist in a salon. Most stylists either could not or will not give me this kind of layered cut. The cut would be u uneven and I would have to go home and recut my hair to make it even. Easier to just use the Creaclip!!

Aethereal: I've always had mine cut when wet and I've always noticed a section of hair in the back that looks inches longer than the rest of my hair once it dries, because that section isn't as curly. So I have been thinking of a dry cut but it scares me. @.@ No one around here knows anything about curly hair

camilla smith: This was really informative! Thank you!

Kelly Suzanne: My hair is natural curly but in the past few years it's mostly wavy now . I haven't cut it in years, I was thinking of getting layers again. My hair is so heavy and is driving me crazy . I just hate it when I get layers that are choppy looking. I'm afraid to go get it done but i think I need it.

Joujou Ma Ka: Actually I've been cutting a unicorn for many yearssss alone at home with a blade, then correct the ends with the scissor, they are as i want. Your hair color is brilliant

Margot Robartes: Wet cuts suit me best. My hair is fine plus I was on some meds which the hairdresser assured me was the problem I was having with breaking hair and losing hair, or thinning hair. I can no less ne’er colour my hair and as it’s nearly white, I’m quite enjoying this look now. I’ve been using some hair treatment to wash and condition my hair plus something I’m squirting into my scalp. As I’m now partially disabled (due to an accident) I have a Carer and she is positive there are some new hairs growing at the roots. I’ve been dreadfully upset by myself his and I’ve had my last ng hair cut to, well it springs up to above my shoulder length now after it’s dry. I like ve my curly hair and I’ve watched you for years. I purchased two of your braid booklets but now it’s too thin to braid so I can only hope with taking myself of the meds and these treatments, I will be able to let my hair grow again. I love your pinky toned hair. It’s fabulous. I found this very interesting. I’m going to a new hair salon here in Christchurch rich, New Zealand and they are excellent hair cutters so I am thrilled. Hugs Margot

April B.: I have had bad experiences with thinning shears, aka texturizing shears. Just recently had my hair color done and this new hairdresser insisted it would be ok to use them! Didn’t let her cut my hair. Had a dry Devacurl cut done a couple of weeks ago. Already don’t like how it looks, seemed ok at the salon but now it’s looking uneven and weird. Now I don’t know what to do . Before this haircut I was going to someone else who cut my hair wet. I’m so confused ‍♀️

Yolanda Winter: Hi Christina, I've just found your fab channel and wanted to send a hello & ask a question from here in the UK. I used to have hair very similar to yours, but unfortunately, a combination of menopause and some very serious health issues, has meant that my once super-thick, very curly hair has lost its volume &, more importantly, my curls have vanished. It really is like a different head of hair. I was a typical red-headed pre-raphaelite curly girl, now my hair is limp and pretty straight. I had it cut to just above shoulder length in the hope that less weight would give me some semblance of curl, but it hasn't worked, & I miss my hair! I realise you're a thousand years younger than me, I'm the grand old age of 53, but I just wondered, with your knowledge and contacts with hairdressers who understand curls, whether you knew of any way I could restore at least a little of my former curliness? I have done some research into hair changes in menopause, & apparently, it's not uncommon for curly hair to become straight & vice versa, but I'm stubborn and don't want to give up just yet. Thanks for the most interesting videos, I'm very glad I stumbled across your channel. Yolanda x

Flutterby 84: Thank you for the tips. I got a bit scissor happy and cut layers that have turned out too heavy/ thick on the top that stop at my ears and then the longer layers seem much thinner. How can I correct that without losing the length??? Please help!!

KALEIDO jess: I cut my hair dry, personally because I won’t get a surprise if I end up cutting it. It is more fun to cut curly hair. Cutting it dry is also easier if you have long hair.

Ash J: Ugh yes.... I got my hair thinned out, it looks awful and it's been months and it's still crap. Now I'm looking at getting a perm just to try and add some of my waves and curls to the top section of my hair

Czarina Pasia: Was tempted to do a unicorn haircut and was looking for a good tutorial video. Good thing I watched this first.

Eva: Hi ! I was wondering what are your thoughts on bangs when having wavy / curly hair ? ☺️

KALEIDO jess: My thinning hair scissors experience wasn’t good, it ended up cutting way too much.

Gipsykiss F.: I'm getting older and my hair is getting thinner. It is all the same length and very long. I would like to have more layers in my hair. What cut do you recommend ?

abcd: I have maybe 2c or 3a hair, it's honestly a mix because I have waves AND curls on my head hahah, I never had a layered haircut because it's difficult to grow it out and I'm scared that it won't suit me... Do you think my curls will have more definition if I get layers?

bournvillelover: Can someone explain to me the difference between a v/u cut vs the unicorn cut, because to me they seem like you end up with similar layers?

Stephanie K: Ive got a question - I burnt the out of my hair a year ago using dry shampoo before I used a straightener. Is there a difference in a straightener & a curling wand as far as the risk of burning hair??? I will note that my straightener was at the highest temp at the time... Thanks in advance if you respond! I just found you today & am IN LOVE with your hair & SO GRATEFUL I found you!!! ❤️ I've got a LOT to learn! Thanks for the videos!! ❤️ curly hair love from west palm beach FL ❤️

Sandra Jones: You are beautiful and your tips are amazing. I have naturally wavy hair and I can't wait to try your ideas! Please do a makeup video.

Su Readett: Thank you for being honest and saving me ALLOT of money.

Desiree Baumer: @hairromance What reccomedations do you have for hair color...does lifting or coloring my hair hurt my curl pattern? My curls/waves are almost identical to yours!!

Sienna Bullen: i have 2b/2c hair and i’m scared that if i get layers i’ll loose my waves and little curls. any tips to reassure me. xxx

Gigi: I had a ouidad cut a while back and HATED IT. It's very hard to get a good cut for us curly girls .

Kelly Suzanne: My hair is mostly tight waves most of my curls fell out as i got older. I have had my hair long for a few years now it's at the middle of my back . And i haven't had layers in years, but i am ready for a different style. I need a good trim i think I'm gonna take off 4 inches get layers and have face framing i use to get my hair feathered towards my face i might do that again. But i am very nervous, I stopped going to hair dressers cause i was never happy .

Lila Allen: Frizzy hair is more pronounced when I get layers Hate layers When it's more one length it is much more manageable

Kirsty Knight: I have only just started looking into how to let my natural wave shine as it's naturally so frizzy if I do nothing with it. My hair dresser thins my hair with those thinning scissors all the time!! She says it's to take some of the weight out... I thought by using these scissors it would be making my hair less triangle shaped. What's a better way to prevent that?

Zara_went_aesthetic: I just found your channel and your hair type is EXACTLY like mine it’s like looking at my own hair.

mspytiff: Wet cut! Mine, like yours varies day to day, so I don’t think I’d try a dry cut. And yes to long layers!

Erica Fiala: I never knew thinning shears was bad. My hair is thick, but maybe they are making my hair more frizzy

tracey murphy: Excellent topic! I remember those thinning scissors and shuddering

Just Di: Hi Christina! I just saw this last night and I have a question I hope you would answer. I have fine, curly/wavy hair and I need to know if when having my hair in layers (just above shoulder length at this time) can these layers start at my cheekbone area? So many of the stylist say that I can't do that because it will curl up too much. I've decided at age 59, to finally embrace my curly hair. It's not coarse and it's not thick and not an even curl all around, probably more wavy with curls (not sure if that makes sense). Anyhooo, my daughter is a hairstylist but definitely doesn't cut a lot of curly hair so I don't mind her learning on my hair (she's been doing hair now for about 5 years - she's 26 now). Yes she has used that razor thing on my hair too which I thought was ok. I will going forward ask her not to use it but I keep telling her and many others who have in the past where I want my layers to start and all have fought me on it. So, Is it okay to start my layers at my cheekbone to help my hair curl better? (I usually NEVER use a hairdryer any more, just don't want to deal with it. Please advise if you can. Sorry for the lengthy comment. Thank you

Beep: My hairdresser always cuts my curly hair wet and usually I have a crazy hair cut by the end or I have to get a small trim and not try anything new.

Kristy Trent: yeah- i know now that my hairdresser- who just cut my hair into a curly shag- ghas NO IDEA what she’s doing on curly hair!

Flower: I really enjoyed this video. Thanks!

skeletonpearls: This helped SO much

Julie Fizpatrick: Omg I hate thinning scissors! Thank u for that:)

Gina Capello: I have naturally curly hair, i have the best hairdresser i've been going to for over 15 years who uses the Ouidad method, carving and slice technique..

Josie F: Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information with us for that we are immensely grateful

Kim Venter: How do you get your fringe area to look so awesome?

Becky Sue: over the last 6yrs... I have had to grow out my hair soo many times. a shoulder length shag. no higher than the ear as starting point I cant beleive only one lady knew how to do it she just left one day and cant find her very frustrating my hair will do it

Amara Rosario: Me watching this after I chopped off my split ends with eyebrow scissors

Bertha Z: I have taken pictures of the haircut I want, but the woman just cut my hair the way she wants! Wish I could find a good hairdresser.

My Big Fat Spoonie Life: In a pinch I'll do the unicorn cut at home...but I don't cut at the base of the ponytail. No no no I didn't even know that's what people did, it seems so obvious to me that cutting THAT short would look so horrible. No I put my freshly washed and combed hair into a unicorn ponytail, then I add a second elastic closer to the ends, at whatever length I want to remove. So I only cut off a couple inches. And I only do this if I really need a trim but am too lazy or can't afford to go to a salon that month. It does the job, but isn't the absolute best option for my hair, so I try to only do a unicorn trim once between salon visits.

Amanda Goldwasser: what products do you use for styling? My texture is similar to yours a d I'm always looking for something better! a lot of products are too crunchy or heavy, as my hair is fine.

Rachel Walker: Wow you must be a mind reader! because I was just looking up curly hair cuts since I'm getting a haircut soon
