Hey glam family wood here and today i'm going to be showing you how to cornrow for absolute beginners. So if that is of interest to you, then please stay tuned and keep on watching we're going to be starting on this head of mannequin hair here. So i'm going to go ahead and break down for you first, some of the things that you may need on how to do this tutorial, the first of which i'm going to be using a rat tail bone. Comb like this one here does not have to be this one, but i do prefer using one that has a sharper tip on the comb, so you can also use the metal tip highlighting combs, but it's just better for parting. In my opinion, you're going to need a couple of butterfly clips like these here and then you may also find that you need some duckbill clips for added security. So i'm going to start you out with a basic underhand braid done two different ways, because you need to know both ways in order to be able to do a cornrow. Now, if you are not at this level of beginner and your bit before i'll put a time stamp in the video, so that way you know exactly where to go to get started on the cornrow portion. Let'S dive right in okay, so, as you can see here, i have my mannequin and i've got this hair sectioned out. I'M gon na take this here and pinch it off into three sections like so. Okay, now i'm gon na work with you on two different hand: positions here, because it's really important that you understand both positions to be able to do this. Well, without your hands, beginning to cramp and things later so, the first of which is going to be with my fingers down to the scalp like this, and i'm just going to pinch off between my index and middle finger and thumb and you you will basically be Utilizing those fingers to kind of grip, your section of hair so from here i'm going to come in pinch, the middle and we're going to bring that outside right, strand, underneath the middle strand now making that outside strand the middle, then we go underneath grip that left Strand and bring it to the middle, going underneath grip that left strand, bring it to the middle, underneath grip, bring to the middle underneath to the right, bring it to the middle, and we just go back and forth like that. There now this hand position is going to be really important because it keeps your fingers in a more neutral and straight position. So what i mean when i'm saying that is your fingers are not bent tightly like this. If you're doing braiding styles, where you are gripping the hair say like this, you may be able to get that braid looking neat, but at the end of it every single knuckle you have will hurt, because they're bent in such a tight position so be careful of The positioning of those fingers now the second way that i want to show you how to braid is once you get off of the scalp. It tends to be easier if you flip your hands and you begin to braid under like this. Let me zoom you back in and now we're going to begin to braid under just like this. So basically now my middle finger is going in gripping that hair under each time. So i just go ahead and grab between index and and thumb here. Take the middle and slide under and we just continue that process on down the shaft of the hair. So once you get to where you're comfortable with that you'll find that this weight here tends to be a little tighter and it allows you to get a bit quicker when you're braiding, so where you're able to finish off those braids pretty quickly. Just so, you know at the end of your braids, you can secure it with a rubber band, something along that lines unless you're adding in hair extensions. But this video does not have extensions in it, because this is again for beginners. So now that we have that down, i'm going to go ahead and part out and show you how to do this braid on the scalp and then from there i'll show you uh as the third portion of the video how to part this hair out. So you've got enough space to work with on the head. So there's a lot of different intricate details into cornrowing that i think people frequently tend to miss and i want to make sure we cover all of your bases, because this is for beginners. Okay. So i'm just going to begin with a pretty good size section and bring that right on down to the nape of the neck right now, i'm not worried about getting it extremely perfect, because right now i'm working right on focusing on some technique rather than showing you Perfect partings i'll show you partings in just a moment, so this is where i'm using those butterfly clips and clipping that hair out of the way, and if you find that that hair is really prone to flyaways things like that, the duck bills are to go right Along that parting space, so that way you can keep those extra flyaways out of the way okay and make sure this hair is detangled and honestly, one of the easiest ways to work with uh cornrowing things like that is on here. That has been blown out with a blow dryer just so that way, the hair is not knotting and tangling, as you attempt to braid okay. So now that we have that underhand braiding down we're going to start off with a small, i prefer to start with triangular sections just because they make the whole braid look neater. So i'm going to start off with a small section like so on that hair. Okay, then, i'm just going to take that here and we're going to go into braiding position, one where my hands are flat and downward and we're going to have them down to the scalp. Now one of the most important things here is with dutch braiding we're focusing on exactly how much hair we're picking up as we go. So it looks more like a stitch braid with standard cornrowing we're focusing more on the position of those fingers. So, basically, depending on how open your fingers are, when you pass under the middle, that's going to determine how much hair you pick up, i would highly encourage you not to think about how much hair you're picking up, because so often i see people where they get Here and they run out of hair to pick up because they're thinking about having to pick up here and they're, picking it up all the way from the nape which is not really necessary. So i'm going to give you techniques on that, as well as how to avoid issues like alopecia, which is baldness or traction alopecia from that hair being pulled excessively tight. So we're going to begin by parting, this hair off in a triangular section and splitting that into three just like so i'm going to move you in just a little closer here, because i want you to easily be able to see what's going on here. So i've got my three pieces right and i'm going to go under the middle now, keep in mind only thing, i'm thinking about look at that little bit of hair that got picked up there, just from me passing under a little that hair that naturally gets picked Up is what's going to be added in, so i'm just going to go under the middle and grip that outside strand, under the middle and grip the outside again under the middle and grip, and we're just constantly from right under middle left under middle now. The thing i appreciate about cornrowing is you: don't really have to focus so much on how much hair you're picking up if you're, focusing on the spacing of your fingers apart, because it allows you to just kind of pick up hair as you go, and it keeps That braid down flat to the scalp another issue - i see people make all the time is they always want to look underneath the braid as they're picking up? I would encourage you to leave your hands flat down on the top look at the top of the braid. Not the underneath side of the braid. This is how you're going to determine how your braid is. Turning out, if you're trying to lift up that section here, like this notice, you can't see the braid at all and then your whole braid ends up looser, so stay to where those hands are flat on the scalp and just travel under the middle each time. Under the middle, every couple steps you'll want to stop and run those fingers through the hair just like that. So that way we're not knotting up and then just continue to go under the middle under the middle and notice. My fingers are staying relatively straight as i work on this, so i'm going to back you up just a little bit and that way you can kind of more easily see my finger positioning, okay, okay, so coming under the middle. Now this is an underhand style of braiding, so if you find that you are naturally an overhand braider talk, your way through this process continually tell yourself under so right under the middle left under the middle right under the middle left under the middle. I don't want you to even think about like pick up hair this and that, because, if you're, keeping your hands down close to the scalp and you've got those fingers just lightly spaced you're going to naturally pick up hair notice. At no point like with my french braiding, my dutch braiding videos, i told you add, hair to the outside, take it under the middle or over the middle. I'M not doing that with this one, it's just under the middle, under the middle under the middle, and you naturally pick that hair up you're, not thinking about it. When you get here behind the ear tilt your client's head forward. This is going to stretch the skin and the neck, and it makes it to where, when they look down later, it's not pulling really tight at the nape and causing those bumps at the nape here which can lead to baldness and things like that. I'Ll also say, if you start off with those really small pieces like we discussed and that small triangular section, the braid will look tight without being uh. It won't be necessary for you to pull as tight on that hair to get the job done. So we're just going to continue to go under the middle, like so under the middle, under the middle, under the middle and each time notice. I'M not looking underneath, i'm not picking that section up. I am just picking up what naturally gets gripped into my hands and that way i can stay down and close to the head all the way down to that nape area, so it stays nice and snug. Then, from there we can braid this baby all the way down, and we can just rubber band the ends as we see fit, or if you wanted to put these into a larger ponytail. However, you chose to finish. This is totally up to you notice. I change hand positions to position number two that i showed you earlier. If you get down to the bottom, you notice your strands are uneven, like how these are just take a little from the strand. Next, to it add it to the shorter strand or the thinner strand and continue on braiding make sure you're only doing this in small incremental amounts, because if you do it in large amounts, your whole braid is going to get wonky and lumpy. So you'll want to focus a bit more on that now. You may have this down, but i find a lot of people struggle with parting, and this is where it's important for you to understand the head shape. So i'm going to back you up a bit again: okay, so with head shapes, it's really important that we understand where the head gets wider and where it gets more narrow when we're doing cornrows. So if you'll notice, you've got a pretty wide area along the front of the head here to work with, the head gets rather wide from ear to ear across this area of the head here, which is where the crown is. That is going to be the widest portion of the head, so we're always going to part our parting's a little wider in there. But then, when you get back to the nape notice, how much thinner the nape section is on there? And it's like that on everybody. So if you've ever seen, people where they are doing cornrows and in the middle of their cornrows, like back here, they have braids stopping and on the outsides, their braids are coming all the way down to the nape. That'S usually a sign that the braider didn't understand, head shapes and how head shapes should go and all that so i'm going to break down with you on partings and how you should be parting, this hair for optimal sizing on these braids as well. So let's go ahead and dive into that now. Okay, so you can see my first braid i did pretty large, and that was just to kind of show you the technique. Now i want to show you how you can part those sections out to ensure that you have ample space left in the nape to finish all of your braids. So when i'm going through here, i don't really do straight back braids, it's not my preference. I always do a slight angle, so i'm just going to slightly angle this down we're going to come on across here and right now. This is looking like about a quarter inch section. This is not much at all. I'D say for those who are on the other side of the pond. This is about a centimeter, okay, um, then from there as we come around the round of the head here, we're going to make that bridge ever so slightly larger. So we're going to part out a bit larger in here now i know. Sometimes people will tend to ask me like how how do i know how wide i'm parting so when you get in there and you're parting that out, if you're ever in doubt, instead of just trying to look at it like this, just take that section of hair Split it, and that way you can see exactly how wide your section is in that area. So i can see we're getting slightly wider here versus in here. Can y'all see that slightly wider in that crown area where the head widens out here then, as i start to curve down into the nape, i'm going to cut it really close and tight in here so now we're just bringing it in. I should be able to see through that section of hair and see my comb, okay and notice how thin i got down at the bottom portion of this hair. The reason why i'm getting thinner down there is because down here my braids are going to be thicker. They'Re going to touch anyway, so all of this, like i won't be able to see scalp under here when i'm done, but it's also going to provide me with ample space to finish all my braids all the way down to the nape. So that's really important. That'S crucial, okay. This is also part of the reason why it's important not to be pulling overly tight and also why it's important to ensure that you are taking those uh small subsections by just lightly. Spacing the fingers apart because it'll allow you to gradually grasp and pick up that hair so using those clips, as i stated earlier, let me make sure that we are detangled here, because this hair has not been blown out today, um. So it's exhibiting a little bit of tangling, that's okay, by the way, if you're learning something please give the video a thumbs up, um or leave a comment, it goes a long way and i really appreciate it and if you'd like more videos like this, i have Tons of different braiding, tutorials and hair tutorials on this channel - i am a licensed cosmetology instructor, so definitely check the other videos out if you're interested okay so coming up here, i'm now going to go ahead and start off with a rather small section, so the more Skilled you get you'll find the easier it is for you to grip, small sections. Even if you don't have nails like i do, it will still be easier for you to grip those small sections, because you get more dexterity within those hands. So i'm going to start off small and we're just going to gradually go under the middle with each step. Just like i was saying under the middle now keep in mind. If any of this feels too fast to you, you can go into your settings. Click that little gear in the corner and you can slow down the speed on the video, so you can get it at the speed that you feel like will work best for you, uh also keep in mind. You can rewind and re-watch this video as many times as you need. If you have an aha moment during this video, let me know down below what moment helped this click for you. So i'm just going ahead and going right underneath my sections and just gradually picking this hair up so notice, there's a major difference in the size of my braids here, usually, if you're getting too much larger than this here, i honestly prefer to switch into a dutch Braid, if you get too much larger than the first cornrow, i showed you, but i prefer smaller cornrows, because for one thing they last a bit longer and they look neater. In my opinion, and for another thing it just makes your work stand out quite a bit. More because it just looks more intricate, remembering every couple of steps to pull my fingers through that hair. So as i'm doing that, i'm just gripping at least two of the strands. This one here notice, i'm not even holding that, but it doesn't come undone if i'm gripping the other two then from there. We just continue right on down this section of hair. So i'm gon na continue this braid here and then i'm going to show you how this looks, even though i didn't do the exact same parting size all the way down this head of hair. I want you to see that it's not going to look wonky due to me having this parting, get wider in the middle and more narrow in the nape okay. So we're just going to continue this braid all the way down this section of hair. Again, once you get behind the ear tilt the head forward, now, of course it doesn't impact the mannequin here because she doesn't have a stretchy skin in the nape and she never complains, but with a live client is super important, again notice. I'M not lifting the hair up and looking underneath i'm pulling it down, so i can see on top of my section here and we're just going to go ahead and continue this braiding process now down in here. It is super important that you remember that part. I told you at first about keeping those fingers spaced a certain amount. Apart notice, you don't even really see me spacing my fingers out very much as i go through here. I'M just kind of forcing that hair into my fingers, just like so so close finger forcing that hair into those closed fingers and when i do that the slightest bit of hair gets added in automatically. I don't have to think about it and this way i'm able to keep my hands down close to the scalp and continually have hair to pick up instead of having to worry about like this little bitty section of hair. Look at this. This is tiny down here, but i'm going to braid it all the way down to that portion on the nape watch me. So this is kind of where it comes down to understanding your technique, and so i would encourage you that if you start out and they're not looking as neat as what you're seeing on camera here, keep going keep trying. It will clean up the more comfortable you get with your braids, so i'm now past, where i'm picking up hair on the nape and notice it's staying at that nape area we have no lifting, which is a plus. If you are lifting. That means that you're flipping your hands a little too early, so just stay in close to the scalp until you're about maybe half an inch to an inch off of the uh, the scalp and then from there. You can flip your hands over to braiding position. Two and just begin braiding right on down that section of hair. So let me continue here and i'm going to show you up close what this is looking like. Okay. So when i bring this back notice, how we get nice and snug to the scalp, it still stays all the way down, and my parting is not looking like what happened like, even though we get slightly wider in this region. It'S not looking wonky it's about taking it slightly. I know a lot of people also ask me about parting and they are thinking they're thinking. They have to do one large parting from the front to the back and they're wondering why they can't get that parting straight. So what i want to show you here is how you can clean this up a bit more and work with it in increments. So, instead of taking one large section, you're going to go in and take small sections like this here, so we take just a little bit at a time and then go in and add a little bit more and it allows you to gradually get that parting space Straight instead of trying to take one long piece and wondering why it is crooked, take it in segmentations and it will allow you to get your whole braid more straight. So i hope that helps if you need a more advanced tutorial than this or, if you'd like to know how to add in hair. I have tutorials on that as well, so please feel free to check out the other videos on this channel and until next time. Felicia Smith: I’m here because I’m black and don’t know how to braid

Shaylyn Washington: I'm almost 27 and never learned to braid to the scalp a day in my life. I watched this video, took some deep breaths, and just braided my son's hair for the first time on my own and I'll only get better from here..! so thankful for this video

Mama Bear Bee-Gee: This is literally the BEST cornrow tutorial I've ever seen! The instructions were clear and to the point, great visibility to be able to watch the technique closely! You're fantastic! I feel confident that I can do it after watching this, I'll definitely be subscribing and checking out your other videos

Kaiti From Haiti: The part that helped me the most is when you explained that I don’t need to look at the bottom of the braid and that it’s about finger position when it comes to “adding hair”

Chrris10_ Productions: I’m currently in a cosmetology program in my high school and this is teaching me a lot more then what they are teaching me . To me cornrowing has always seemed so overwhelming to me and so hard but when you broke down the steps it made me a little more comfortable and confident in learning and doing it ✨✨

Hey Kimothy: As a white hairdresser, you have taught me more about textured hair. Than my formal education ever did. Thank you. I want any person who walks into my salon, to be able to get their hair done. your advice on gradually grabbing hair helped a lot. I wish I had a class from you when I was in school 5 years ago.

morganicbit: This entire video is an "ahh ha!" moment for me! incredible detail given when breaking down grip, parting, underhand braiding, head shape, ETC! I can now braid my 8yr old daughters hair after all these years & now i'll be able to do my 4mo. old's hair! Life changing video, seriously! Thank you...this info is priceless.

Janetta Taylor: Thank you. This has changed my daughter’s hair life. She will no longer be limited to flat twist styles. I’ve always wanted to learn how to cornrow. Now I know that I will be able to do it. They way that you explained this was phenomenal. Continue to do your calling. Such a blessing.

Doretha Pritchette: Thank you so much. You are an excellent instructor. “Under the Middle” is what I said to myself with each strand and before I knew it I had completed a braid!

Iva Morales: I never learned to cornrow as a kid, so these videos are incredibly helpful! Thank you for explaining this so well!

Joseph Eisenreich: Last time I tried to cornrow my daughter's hair, I was grateful she was too young to hate me for what I did to her head... This video is *exactly* what I needed...

Ashley Towery: This is one of the most informative and well taught instructional videos on YouTube. Good job on this and thank you I learned alot!

honeyweb's channel: This is absolutely the best cornrow video I have ever watched. I wish I could have seen it when I used to do my son’s hair. He’s moved onto locs now so I can’t even practice lol but this tutorial is perfect!

Honey Brown: WOAH! You’re an amazing teacher! Thank you so much for sharing your time and experience. I already know how to braid but i loved seeing you do your thing!

Dakota Hearst: The “AH HA” moment for me was knowing not to lift the braid as it’s being done , as well as knowing the science behind the metrics of parting sizes . I’m so excited to be putting these new tips to use !! THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ❤️❤️

Khulania Frost: This video is changing my life! I'm a professional in my mind already

Aquila Williams: I’m a beginner never knew how to scalp braid and now I’ve finally got my mannequin and started practicing and with each braid I’m getting better you’re video is helpful ! Thanksss!

Santa Maria: This was beautiful and simple to watch. Thank you

ashley santos: I loved this video!! I've struggled so much with the under braid especially with my finger placement. Seeing you do it helped me understand what to do and not worry about feeding the hair.

Barbara Rubio: Thank you so much for your tutorials! I’ve been braiding my daughter’s hair for a couple of years now but my technique, which just came natural to me, was to go over, not under, and for some reason I always finished braiding before reaching the nape. Probably because I take too much hair as I go and I run out fast! I feel more confident now AND you also taught me how to add extensions to my braids so she can finally have her blue frozen-themed braids!

Peeps Ahoyy: This is actually the best braiding tutorial I’ve ever seen. You explained everything so well and did a perfect demonstration and I actually understand now. This will make things easier!

FaithinYahweh: This is the video that helped me officially learn how to cornrow and I’ve watched plenty. Your vid hits the perfect angle on the mannequin head to where I can see exactly how you’re braiding thank you! Left, right, under the middle and not worrying about how much hair you’re picking up is what did it for me.

carlosnvlr: You are an AWESOME instructor! You’re so concise yet also detailed at the same time; my wife is practicing on me while we listen to you lol At almost 30 yrs old, I’m finally gonna try getting cornrows done. I’ve feared the stigma of them being considered “unprofessional” and how it might impact my work/career, but I’ve finally decided to just go for it! Thank you!

Chelsea Wager: Thank you for this! I am doing corn rows on my 1.5 year old and it's been challenging but to learn and your video hit on a few key areas that I've been struggling with. 1. Keeping the braid tight without making it feel tight. I found myself pulling so much but my son's braids would come apart so quickly anyway. 2. Trying to lift the braid to see what I'm doing underneath, and 3. Focusing too much on how much hair I'm adding instead of allowing myself to naturally pick up between pinched fingers. I'm excited to try again today with what I've learned thank you!

courtneybrown324: Loved everything about this video very detailed great tips from hand position, where to look when braiding and how to hold the hair. And the remembering to go under the middle. This helped me a bunch thank you very much!!!!

natsai njovana: Thank you so much for this seamless tutorial. I really appreciate how it was simple and clear to follow, that I was able to cornrow my hair on one attempt too.

Grace Ila: Thank you so much!I have never been able to braid onto the head.. and now I braid my daughter's hair every few days! The advice to not over think how much hair you pick up was total gold! And the parting advice was totally perfect! Love all the advice you give and it's great the way you explain why you are telling us to do things a certain way. From never having braided in my life I am now braiding like a pro and my girls love it!

Pualani Keohokapu: This is a great video. I taught myself how to French braid on myself. It may still be a challenge to do this on myself. I hold my hands differently for a French braid verses cornrow. But also when I cornrow it’s challenging to keep the hair tight. This is going to make things much easier. I’ll practice on my daughter and then try on myself. Much appreciated.

Lexi Sherre: I’m 29. NEVER could braid in my life. That talent skipped my black ass and I said “FUCK IT lemme YouTube this shit!!” It’s 3 AM found you and I am GEEKED. You’re easy to follow and your instructions are clear. You are everything!! You gained a new sub!

Stephanie Headrick: This video is awesome. I have been putting my daughter's hair in 2 French braids her whole life and I have struggled with trying to do this. This video and your explanations make it so simple. I can't wait to try it!!

Medusa 2.0: Thank-you so much for this video! Watching while braiding my interracial daughter's hair. I'm still learning and my braids be a mess, but with a video like this I'm understanding so much more! It's like you're right here next to us showing me what to do! I appreciate YOU!

Monika Amagundvasia: This is by far the best tutorial I've seen on how to make cornrows. The "aha" moment for me was when you said "under the middle". Til now I didn't understand that this was the teqnique. Each time I'm doing cornrows I put you on and get better every time . Thank you so much!

Datcrv: The talking through the braiding “under the middle” helped a lot, thank you so much for this video!! Literally a life a saver

Madeline Thai: I’m trying to learn to braid for my mom. This was so helpful! Thank you

Rugby Mad Aunty: Thank you so much for this!! Super helpful! Haven't been able to cornrow my toddler for about a year since his hair was cut badly I wasn't great to start with, mostly with running out of hair so hoping not worrying about picking up hair and just let it happen naturally will help! Rojo Dawn: Thank you SO much for this video. What a God send you were. I got my daughter’s hair done for her first day of school!! The tips on spacing the rows, under middle left, under middle right, and don’t focus on picking up hair were BRILLIANT. Thank you again.

Makayla Serranoꨄ: This was so helpful. I have two little cousins with very thick, curly, coarse hair that is often difficult to style. Their mother unfortunately just passed away (the only one that knew how to handle their hair type) and I want to advocate for them by being able to do different styles on their hair. So thank you so much for this❤️

whatever nina: I loved this video!!! I'm trying to learn more protective hairstyles instead of twist so this was such a great find. I thought it was going to be difficult at first but he explained it so well and showed step by step instead of rushing into everything. 10/10 amazing video, thank you so much for help me learn how to cornrow

janiyab2002: Thank you so much! I really benefited from the zoom closeup and how you explained how to lightly supplement the braid when you cornrow! I always struggled with adding too much hair and getting lost in my fingers because of the thickness and natural density of my hair. And I also love how your video caters to all learners, because it makes me comfortable learning how to do foundational black hair styles at 18! I'm a beginner and this video really helped a lot. Thank you!

Alexis: Such a detailed tutorial. Thank you for helping me gain the confidence to try braiding!

Alexus Baker: Very informative video !! Really really helped me understand what I was doing wrong & how to fix it when braiding! Love this video. Highly recommend to anyone trying to learn how to do a basic cornrow.

Supa Starrs: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!! ♥️ I was only ever taught the overhand braiding when I was young but after having my (mixed) daughter I want to learn to braid her texture and protect her amazing hair this was EVERYthing!! thank youuuu!!!

Jessica stanley: Thank you for this tutorial. I'm instantly subscribing ❤️ currently studying cosmetology as well and you really taught me more than my instructor has. The instructions were very clear.

Sasha Booker: That advise to just go in from under was great!! My braids have been so loose at the beginnings and I braid upside down. Learning this way is definitely going to lead to a better structured braid!

Tamiya Harden: This video just taught me so much! I love you for this! I also love how you went into detail about your braids, parting and educating us on how to place our hands when braiding. You’ve gained another loyal subscriber ☺️ keep it up bc your helping is( upcoming master cosmetologist) and I know your blessings are on the way. Most won’t even share their techniques but you’re trying to help others ❤️

MissuhsipEgirl38685: I am trying to learn braiding for a patient of mine at the nursing home that I adore. Being that I am white, and have never braided hair other than a French braid for me or my daughter, I was getting lost with other videos on how it was being done. Your saying left under, right under....I totally understand and can not wait to go back to work to try to fix her hair for her. Thank you!!

Sophia Gladden: This is amazing...I've been braiding my and my daughter's hair more and more but your details are amazing and will help me make our braids so much neater and just better...the triangling is such an amazing tip! NEW FOLLOWER FOR SURE!

Adam Hosterman: I am so excited! Because of your instructions I was able to do my first cornrow! THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU!

RoseArtDaily: This is so helpful! Thank you so much. I feel confident to start practicing cornrowing my hair now!

RTY_AIDAN: Awesome tutorial I’ve learned a lot from this video. I know now that my biggest mistake was finger placement and lifting up the braid. Thanks for the all the details and taking care to explain everything.

Neka W: I have always been confused about how my fingers should be positioned and the parting down at the nape. I really appreciate how detailed this video is. It helped a bunch.

Jessica Maison: Definitely the best tutorial I've found so many awesome tips thank you! - don't worry about grabbing hair just what goes in as u pass under - the parting wider in the middle, thinner at nap and the angle at the front!

Jalah Horton: Very helpful, thank you so much!! Great and easy to understand instructions as well!

Seashell: This is the best cornrowing video I've ever watched! The aha moment for me wa when you said that hair strands naturally get picked up. In the past when I cornrow i usually consciously pick up hair and my braid ends up looking wonky. My parting drastically improved too THANK YOU!

Koyuki Koko Snap: As a new cosmetology student you helped me so much. I missed the session in class last week and it has been impossible to get caught up and getting help from my teachers. Thank you so much. I have a ways to go in practicing but at least now I have an idea of where to start and practice.

Tony Stank: This has to be one of the best videos I’ve ever seen on how to cornrow hair. Literally had an aha moment 2 mins into the vid lol. Thank you so much!

Haley Pugh: We have been learning braids in cosmetology school, and your videos have helped me tremendously when I’m practicing at home! your tip about not lifting the braid up to grab hair was the key for me! Also, from your beginner Dutch braid video when you said don’t take the whole braid out when you get frustrated…I HEARD that I went through the whole mannequin head without taking them out And it was nice to be able to see how they progressively got tighter and more neat as I kept working. Sending you all the love and appreciation

Raven Johnson: The tip that helped me the most is “left under the middle , right under the middle” lol I just sing it every time I begin a braid and it works

Renee's Signature: FINALLY!!! A detailed video on how to braid! You explained yourself clearly, took your time and maybe now I can learn how to do my son's hair. Thank you so much! NEW SUB HERE!

Sharissa Frazier: THANK YOU for this! My daughter is half black/half Filipino and has such curly hair. I have been researching how to do this so she has a style that stays in during school and soccer. I can do French braids all day, but they only last so long. I'm a big overhand braider. You explaining it in this way just made a breakthrough for me!

Jamisha Graham: Such a easy follow video. Thank you! You've given hope to us non-braiders.

Lakesha Lohman: I haven't had cornrows in my hair in a long time and usually made larger sections. The smaller sections of 'right under the middle' and 'left under the middle' are a good visual. Thanks for the tips!

Jan Jones: Your tutorials are THE ABSOLUTE BEST and I have watched so many trying to learn. I have watched this particular tutorial several times in order to learn and I can FINALLY cornrow because of you . Thank you soooo soooo much . The detail and the way you clearly explained hand positioning , how much and where to pick up hair , and how to keep your braid tight is incredibly fantastic. You are truly gifted at teaching . Thanks for all of your videos. I am truly learning so much from you .

Mathieu Mitchell: You literally teached me how to braid . I watched this video many many times until I got thr hang of it. This was thee best video by far that shows you step by step ... thank you

keylaylay smith: Omg this was sooooo helpful, I literally thought that i was incapable of braiding on the scalp. The “under the middle” thing really works and I’m an over braider so im basically reteaching myself to braid. Thank u so much

Lats Me!: Thank you for making this look so easy!!

Marian Ž: My aha moment is that I don’t need to focus on grabbing hair it’ll naturally get into the braid. Can you do a video on how to do cornrows on myself?

Monique Williams: OMG, thank you for this tutorial. I had trouble with the parting to make my braids look neat. Know I know thanks to you. You are clear and detailed. I follow and never comment. Except for today.

Vicky: Best most detailed video!! I always wondered how the beginning of the cornrows can look so neat and tiny. Never would've thought that you can take a smaller section of the section and start like that. Thank you!

Kharin Anderson: .... You just taught me how to corn row. I feels so weird grabbing the out pieces and actually making my way down without feeling like I'm actually gripping anything. My first flat to head style I've ever learned was two stand twists. 28 years old and today - GlamFam! You da man! ✨❤️

Mystree: You are amazing sir! I thank you sooo much! For my aha moment, it was definitely the "under the middle", so simple but absolutely helpful while learning to change my grip; (used to doing French braids for myself).

thatrighthandtho: I thought I could braid but decided to watch a quick video and this just changed everything. The reaching under and just grabbing whatever hair naturally gets added was what helped me most. I was trying to do it and reverted back to the way I did it before then by the third braid I had it down and it was amazing. Thank you so much.

Sarah Arkoh: Omg this is so helpful, I just started braiding my own hair at home and thanks for sharing. Much love ❤️

Sienna Collins: Thank you so much for this! You are an amazing teacher! Anytime ive practiced braiding im aways worrying about grabbing more hair, now I realize i dont need to focus on that! Also, how parting the hair works. Super informative
