So you're stuck at home, and your hair is getting a bit too long. Today, I'm going to teach you how to give yourself an easy haircut, step by step, with a method designed for beginners. Specifically, a faded undercut for men with straight or Asian hair. This is also a good tutorial on how to cut your husband or boyfriend's hair.

I'm not a professional! This is my own self cut system, and this is just what works for me.

Yes, this video is the video from the YouTube Premium ad.

POPULAR QUESTION: What are the mm sizes you used in guard numbers?

The guards I used were #1 (3mm), #2 (6mm), and #3 (9mm)

My taper control switch went, from position 1 to 5: 0.8mm, 1.1mm, 1.4mm, 1.7mm, 2.0mm

It'll depend on your clipper, but essentially, you just need to add the measurements together to try to match my sizes.

So for example, when I was cutting at 3.8mm, I was using a #1 guard + position 1 (3mm + 0.8mm = 3.8mm)

When I was cutting at 5mm, I was using a #1 guard + position 5 (3mm + 2.0mm = 5mm)

As long as you understand the process of going from a smaller size to a longer size and cutting in layers, you should be good! If you're around the measurements I used, you should get something similar to my haircut.

So you're stuck at home and your hair is getting a bit too long, but you're not seeing a barber anytime soon. Well, today, i'm going to teach you how to give yourself an undercut from the comfort of your own home step by step. Who says you can't get a fresh fade under lockdown? What you're going to need to cut your own hair is a pair of hair clippers, the attachments that come with it, a pair of scissors, a comb, a small brush. This is optional, a handheld mirror and hair clips. This is also optional. You can check out my specific equipment in the description below step. One is to wet your hair fully. This is going to help make your hair much easier to cut and by the way, if you have any facial hair, i suggest you shave it to the final state that you want it to be in, so you can visualize your final look a little bit easier When you're giving yourself your hair cut, step, two is to observe your hairstyle see what you've got to work with what foundation you have, especially if you have any parts in your hair, you want to make sure that you're aware of that. So you don't cut the wrong hair at the wrong length. What you're doing here is giving yourself an undercut, but working with what you've got we're not giving ourselves a 100 complete makeover here, step three, it's time to fade your sides. If you have any hair clips, this is the perfect time to use them to separate that longer hair that you probably have at the top of your head with the shorter hair on the sides now fading. Your sides is a really simple process. How you want to look at it is in terms of layers. Imagine that there are layers that create the side of your head from the bottom, to the top of your forehead and within each layer is a different length. A different clipper size that you're going to be cutting it at you're, going to start off with a lower clipper size and go all the way up to a little bit longer clipper size to create that gradual fade on the side of your head. I start off with 0.8 millimeters for that first layer and i cut all the way up to the end of that imaginary layer and what i'm gon na make is a line on the side of my head and i move on once. I'M done to a little bit longer, but not necessarily too long, clipper size of 1.1 millimeters and i go up to the second layer - and this is the process right, you're, going layer by layer cutting it up until the end of each layer, essentially creating that gradual Transition that creates that fade on the side of your head once you're done fading. That part, it's time to move on, to part two of your side, the upper side of your head, and what you want to do with that is you want to start off with a little bit longer clipper size. I start with five and i go upwards in a straight line. Imagine there was a ruler that would be lying on the side of your head: you're, going to go upwards, you're not going to be having the clipper be pressed against your skin, because if you do that, your clipper is going to curve and it's not going to Give that upper hair shape once we've trimmed a little bit of the fat with the longer clipper size. We'Re gon na go with to a little bit shorter one and really tighten up everything and the exact same thing. We'Re going in an upwards direction and pulling out right. Imagine there's that ruler you're going upwards to finish off the upper side, you're going to go to a longer clipper size. I go with 9.8 and i go downwards. I go inverted and really round off that corner of my head to really make that transition right, especially since i have a part i want to make that transition smooth, because people will be able to see that and that's it one side complete now we're moving on To the other side, and the other side is the exact same process right, we go with those layers, then, for the upper side, you're going to go with that ruler and then that rounding off of the corners. I also want to take this time to let you guys know to subscribe, hit the bell icon and hit the like button for that youtube. Algorithm, that's going to really help me out and help a lot of guys out there who are, in the same situation, trying to figure out their haircut in their homes now step four. Is that we're done with the sides and it's time to fade the back? What i do is, i clip all my top hair forwards, so it doesn't interfere with anything in the back now to see the back of your head. You'Re gon na need your handheld mirror and what you're going to do is you're going to reflect that handheld mirror to the bigger mirror that you've been using to cut the front of your head right and you're going to see the back of your head. And it's going to be tricky sometimes, but you're going to get the hang of it. Don'T worry about that now to actually cut the back of your head. It'S the same process as the side of your heads right. It'S all about the layers you're gon na create that fade upwards for the first layer, we're gon na start with 3.8 millimeters and we're gon na match it with the side of our head. Now, i'm going to start off with this back corner this back side area and use my ear as a guide to go upwards right and create that first layer really curve into that side to really make it transition together. Now, once that back side is done, we're gon na move on to the actual back back, i would say, and i would go up and continue, that layer right create the same height that you've been cutting and continue it on moving on to the other side, with The other side is the exact same process. We'Re gon na have that layer continue on and connect to the side of your head and use the ear as guidance once you're done. With that you're going to see a layer from one ear to the back of your head to the other ear, and that's going to be your first layer and for the subsequent layers, it's gon na be the same thing for the second layer. I'M gon na move. My clipper up the back of my head, one layer heights worth and i'm gon na, follow the same process right, go around the ear and connect it to the side of my head. Go to the other side. Do the exact same thing and for the back go up one layer heights length and make that second layer for the third layer again the same thing same process now. The third layer is my last layer that i'm going to create on the back of my head and so for the final back cutting. I go all the way up and do that ruler trick that i was talking about earlier, where i cut straight upwards. In a straight line - and i move my clipper out backwards, so i can create that shape and create that volume on the top back of my head once your back has been faded. It'S time for step, five rounding, those back corners, you're, gon na see kind of a bump, show up on the back of your head and that's where you can get rid of it. It'S similar to the side of your head. Remember where we had that kind of corner that transition from the top to the side you're going to get rid of that by not using the handheld mirror but facing the big mirror that you have and really looking it in that way, use the same clipper size That you used for your final layer and really go up. If it still sticks out, you can decrease the clipper size if necessary. Now, once you're done, you're going to do the same thing as what you did for your side, you're going to invert and go downwards, with a larger clipper size to really round off that corner. And what you're going to see at the end is a really rounded natural looking corner and with that the back is pretty much done, but, as you can see, there's still some cleaning up to do with the back of my head. So i'm gon na dedicate all of step six to cleaning up the back. The back is probably the trickiest part about giving yourself a haircut so really take your time to cut it now. If that means giving yourself more layers to make that fade really smooth. Do it, especially with the top corner of the back of your head you're gon na, want to do the inverted, cutting down trick to really round out that corner and make that transition really nice and boom. We'Ve got our left side faded. We'Ve got our right side. Faded we've got the back faded as well, it's time to go to the final section of our head, the top step, seven comb, the top of your head towards your face towards the front. If you have long hair, like me, you're gon na wan na do that and it's gon na help. You set up your hair for step, eight, which is cutting the top, of course we're finally moving on to using scissors, which can be pretty scary. But don't worry about it, i believe in you, you've got this. What we're gon na do is grab the portion of our hair that grows from the middle of our head and move it aside, because we'll be cutting the bangs, the hair that grows right above the forehead and we're going to cut it to the middle of the Forehead, that's kind of where i cut it towards look at how i hold my scissors. It'S this vertical, or rather diagonal stance. It'S not horizontal, it's not flat and that's very important because in this method, you're going to be able to cut your hair non-uniformly, it's going to be kind of random and messy, and that's on purpose because it makes a natural cut once that front bangs is done. I'M just going to lay the rest of my hair upwards and do the same thing cut it to the middle of my forehead, go a little bit by little bit. You know take your time with your bangs, because if you mess up with your bangs there's no reversing right, as with the entire haircut itself, so take your time cut a little bit by little bit and really make this look natural. If you're like me, you might have longer hair, that's growing at the top of your head and falling down to the side and for your undercut look, you can style this and cut this in many different ways right. You can cut your hair a little bit higher and end it off at that corner of your head, or you can leave it laying down. I'Ve done both styles and both look good, but what i'm doing this time is just leaving a little bit longer, and this is actually a little bit safer too. I'M just going to grab a little chunk and just start cutting off, and it's all about trial and error just cut a little bit put it down, see where it lays cut a little bit. Do it again, do it again and what's gon na happen? Is that eventually, you're gon na get it to a position where it matches the length of your bangs and it's gon na? Have this diagonal slant that connects with your bangs and that's what's gon na make it look good, finally, to reduce some thickness in your hair? I recommend you grab a chunk of your hair in the middle of your head and just start snipping away and do some trial and error and cut away and you're essentially making it. You know a little bit more natural and make some more layers and texture. You don't have to be very particular because you're going for the natural look anyways so once you've gotten that down it's time for step nine, which is previewing your hair with water. The key to this hairstyle is that you're definitely going to be styling it with some product, and so using water can help. You kind of visualize have a preview of your hairstyle, and not only that, be able to see what you need to still improve on step. 10 is the final cleanup with your preview with water you're, going to be able to see things that you can fix up, such as fades or bumps. You got to get rid of all that stuff. This is the final chance for you to do that. Step. 11. Is to clean up your neckline, i would say this is optional and not necessary, but if you can do this, you will make your haircut even more fresh and honestly, you would have mastered cutting your own hair. What we're doing here is getting rid of the baby hairs and really defining that edge on your neckline. The risky thing about this, the hard thing about it is that you'll be using really small clipper sizes, such as 0.8 millimeters, and if you mess up and again, this is on the back of your head, it's pretty hard to control, there's no going back right. So you got to be really really careful and essentially create that line. That goes and defines that edge on the back of your head. Now, even for me, i have difficulty cleaning up the neckline. Sometimes so you got to be really careful. Okay, another trick. You can do is try to fade it a little bit right, set your clipper size to a higher one and try to fade it in. What will happen is that you're gon na have a really defined line at the back of your head and it's gon na. Look fresh now: all you need to do is take a shower put some product in your hair and boom before a messy haircut into now. A fresh faded undercut all cut by yourself. Give yourself a pat on the back. You deserve it now, there's one more tip that you're gon na need to know to be able to successfully cut your own hair, and that is to believe in yourself be confident that you can cut your own hair. I'M serious! This literally changed the game. I'Ve been cutting my hair for 10 years now, okay, 10 years, but i could say that eight of those years were just complete failures. I remember going to school and my friends would be like jensen. What happened to your hair? Why is there a chunk like a hole in your head or like? Why did you go bald? I had a nickname monk for uh my grade tenure because uh, you know. Suddenly all my hair disappeared because i i messed up. I think it was around two years ago, when everything changed. I tried to cut my hair one more time, but this time was a bit different, because this time i said to myself, you can do this. Just cut your hair and if you mess up you mess up, and so what i did was. I grabbed the chunk of my hair and i got the scissors and i just start before that you know i was like shaking all the time. I was like super particular with with my hairstyle. What i realized was you know what you just got. Ta take the risk you got ta, take the jump when you have that confidence. You'Re, just gon na be able to cut your own hair so successfully and what's gon na happen is that you're gon na go to school or to work or whatever and no one's gon na say anything. People will say: oh nice haircut, but no one's gon na say anything and that's the best compliment, because that means that no one knows that you cut your own hair. Okay, so be confident believe in yourself. That is the final thing. You'Re gon na need to be able to cut your hair successfully. Now, if you're, a subscriber of mine or you watch my videos, you'll know that this video is a little bit different from what i usually do. But i feel like this skill uh at this time. At this, this hectic crisis that we're in um. It could be useful to a lot of guys out there. So hopefully, this video, you know if you enjoyed it, be sure to like this video subscribe to the channel. If you haven't already and consider becoming a patron on patreon, otherwise thanks so much for watching peace,

Makettle: I'll admit, this was my first time cutting my own hair and the whole covid situation has obviously closed down my barber, I was scared shitless to cut my own hair, after watching this vid and actually doing it i'll admit I did A LOT better than I originally thought i would. Thank you so much for the vid!

lowkey: Pro tip for people who are worried about not having a perfect fade or having lines in their fade: they go away in like 2-3 days so don't stress over it. Your hair grows irregularly enough that any sort of lines just disappear with a few days of growth.

Swg: This dude literally got a free shoutout from YouTube itself

Adam F: Half a year into quarantine, half a year doing my own hair. Thanks again for this tutorial man.

Negoita Ionut: I saw this yesterday as I really needed a haircut. I decided to give it a try and your instructions were perfect. To be honest, I gave myself the best haircut I've ever had. Thanks man!

Spotted Ghost: I’ve never cut my own hair before this, but this tutorial was super helpful. I love how it turned out!

Una Lu: I’m a girl and got my hair cut short almost 3 years ago. Every time I self cut my hair, it’s never the way I want it to look and the tutorials online just were never enough to make me confident enough to cut it “right”. But this video was a game changer and I watched it like 20 times and finally tried it out. By far the best cut and the best tutorial. So happy I came across your channel and this video! Keep it up!

Philip Panuda: Just finished cutting my hair and I can safely say that I can't wait for it to grow back HAHAHA but this tutorial really helped! Loved this! My sides are faded af, and I cut my bangs diagonally the back could've been better but for a first timer I'd rate my cut 8/10

acooldryplace00: That inverted tip is priceless. I wouldn't have ever risked that, but seeing you do it, it makes perfect sense. Great video!

darwinmusician: Hey man, just wanted to thank you so much for making this tutorial. Hands down this was THE tutorial that made the most sense out of the countless quarantine self-cut videos out on youtube. Thanks for taking the time to NOT fast-foward past any parts, and for clearly labelling which guards you were using, etc. Finished my cut just now and gotta say I'm pretty happy with the end result. For everyone watching the video, just a few comments: 1) take your time with the cut. DON'T RUSH, and when in doubt, cut less than more -- you'll always have more time to fix it later 2) you don't need the exact guards he's using. I only had standard wahl clipper guards 1,2,and 3, and that was good enough

Kevin H: Have used this video about 5 times now, messed up the first time by trying to follow the steps from memory, but after following it exactly the 2nd time it was a great success, this has worked great for both myself and my son ever since. Getting faster and faster at doing it.

Super1d3go: I've been cutting my own hair my whole life but only recently started using clippers. So many useful tips here. Thank you, I'll check out the rest of your channel.

Shinn Kawasaki: Hi Jensen! Thanks for making this tutorial. It gave me the confidence to attempt to cut my own hair for the first time. I have a different head shape so had to adapt a little bit. If you want to someone who has no idea to give you a little bit of confidence, you can see how I did as I filmed the process of following Jensen's tutorial: https://youtu.be/7IxS6dIWBZc

Josh Butler: You make this look so easy. I'll give it a try. Gave myself a side shave once and it turned out nice, but this is a lot more involved! Good job, man.

Luke McCall: I cut my hair using this tutorial and it turned out great! I’ve gotten so many compliments and have had a bunch of people at work ask me where I went to get my hair cut I’m going to keep doing this even after barber shops open back up. Thank you for the great tutorial dude!

andresc587: i just wanted to say THANK YOU for such a clear, detailed, and easy-to-follow tutorial. so many other videos are very vague and speed up the video which makes it really hard to learn their form. i just cut my hair for the first time and it came out a lot better than i thought it would. definitely gonna stop going to a barber and just keep improving my own skills :)

Viet Ngo: I just followed your tutorial while cutting my own hair, and it turned out to be great for the first time ever. It look great on both sides but on the back it kinda show some cut mark, but it fine. You really helped me a lot, I was so scared while holding the clipper but in my mind, I followed what you said and I just have confidence and do my best shot, and it was great after take a shower. This is definitely the best experience for those who are thinking of cut their own hair. Thanks a lot @Jensen Tung

Brently Wently: Thank you Jensen for giving me the courage to try it your instruction is excellent as well as your advice for my first time I thought my hair turned out pretty good not to mention the fact you've made me independent I remember first learning to throw darts I could not always hit the bullseye but with practice I succeeded thank you again

Michael Vu: Thanks this really helped. Using the ears as a guide to fade the back made it SO much easier. Best self-cut tutorial on YT

lumberjack bob: First time ever cutting my own hair and your video helped a lot. Turned out great :) Thank you!

Linda Chow: Thanks for sharing. I've watched a few other tutorials but this seems to be the easiest to follow. Fade was on point!!

Joe M: Thank you for this man just tried this now and getting compliments all round! Life saver during lock down :)

guitarrocka88: Thanks for the tips! I cut my hair a few minutes after watching this and it helped a lot. You rock \m/

RetinaSprite: This helped so much! I’ve attempted to cut my own hair before but this made me really feel like I knew what I was doing. Plus, I really like how it came out!

Louis Zhan: This is a great video. Worked well for me. Asked my wife to do final touch up and she was surprised that there wasn't much to fix. Thank you!

Hume Vance: Thank you for the superb instructions. I managed a presentable cut on the first try, thanks to your video.

irving kris: This is the simplest self-cutting tutorial I have watched. Thank you so much!

Tarnos: Thanks Jensen for a very encouraging suggestion. Just a question, wouldn’t it be better or easier if I start with the longest (the length you are aiming at) than gradually to the lowest size?

Fivefourbarber: As a barber, I’d have to say this is prob a good tutorial for a self cut, you really understand that shape is critical for a haircut

CCW Noob: you're highly skilled. for those with less skill like me, ive found its safer to go in the opposite order than you - from high guard to low.

Luke H: I just used this to cut my hair in lockdown in the leadup to a wedding - I took it really slow but got a great result. Great tutorial!

Pitchfork-red: my boyfriend tried to follow this before we met & he ended up shaving his head I followed this while I cut his hair & he looks amazing thanks so much for making it easy!!

Brian H.K. Lee: Just used your tutorial. Best quarantine haircut so far. Thank you! I’ve hacked my hair twice now

Dani C: Oh man. It took me like two hours to cut my husband's hair because I didn't know what I was doing / nervous as heck, but I followed along with this tutorial and it helped immensely. Thank you!!!!

Chain Tang: I never comment on any videos, but I’d like to say thank you for this guide! I always go back and watch this video every time I need to cut my hair

BeeeHonest: I have been cutting my own hair for 25 years, I think you are doing an excellent job, bravo!

Kaya Koza: Thank you dude! If you follow his instructions step by step, you‘ll have a killer sidecut! Awesome

Yoman9210: Great video Jensen, it was a lot of help, especially cutting the top of the head, which even though I've cut my own hair for years I've never succeded in doing well before

Aaron Roman: This is THE best/most helpful video I've seen about doing a self fade! I appreciate you took the time to literally show every step rather than give a brief explanation then doing that fast forward edit people do. Thanks for taking the time to make this.

Brian: The first time I tried, it works! Thanks for the video...feel fresh after the haircut, after a long lockdown!

JustJayJ: Thanks Jensen for this <3! I actually watched this yesterday night, and I actually attempted to try and give myself a high fade or so....it went well, but omg....I definitely could not blend at all! HAHAHA! Although, I'm truly happy with the end results still...just because it made my face look slimmer as the sides/back are short, and I kept the top long (I'm rocking the Top Knot hairstyle at the moment.). I may try the Equipment you used in this video in the near future, which this seems easier than using my brothers cutting equipments with all the different, magnetic guards, tbh haha! Again, thanks for this! Your hair texture is definitely similar to mine, so it was quite simple to follow.

Jerry Peñaflorida: One of the most helpful haircut videos I've watched in a while! Thanks Jensen

Pyro: I did it, and I gotta say, thanks for the video. I took 2 hours on it because it was my first time doing my own haircut but it turned out pretty good.

Albert Cutamora: Bro, I cut my own hair. I follow your process and the result is actually good. Thanks jenzen.

Cyril De Guzman: Tried cutting my hair using this video for the 3rd time and it went so well! The first couple times, I ended up just shaving my head lol

Eric S: I've been cutting my hair for about 20 years now after my mom stopped cutting it. I don't even know what the inside of a barber shop looks like. This is a great tutorial. My technique has been very close to what was shown. Maybe the only main difference is I don't use scissors, clippers for everything and its way faster. I can cut and shower/clean up in less than 40 minutes. One thing I've learned over my 20 years is don't try new styles! Stick to your signature look and hopefully like you said "nobody will know!" Cheers.

Mario Jähn: One of the best tapered undercut I ever saw. Great hairstyle!

Branden Becenti: THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE TIPS AND KNOW HOWS! my hair looks so good, now I'm confident i can cut my hair again on my own.

Bryan Gregorius Bryan Hendriwan: Thanks for the tutorial! I just did it and it was quite good for the first shot!!

Hybrid-Crossfade-Mixes: I always try the faded look and never get it as good as you did. I'm going to use this video as guidance. Awesome video, man. Subscribed earlier already.

Philip Winsnes: This is truly a money saver! Did it today. Happy for my first attempt but I took no big risks.

Michael Ian Cuizon: Wow! This gave me the confidence to cut my hair and I just did. It’s not perfect but I am really satisfied. Thank you!

Mad Angles: Thanks you for taking us with you with the whole process of cutting the hair

Parkin Chiu: man, you make it look so easy! very helpful, big thanks! cheers Jensen!

iProf3ssorX: Just watched your video and followed your instructions and I did it. Thank you so much it really helps me how to cut my own hair from now on. I’m a new subscriber to your channel yay

LD101: That’s a great video, so informative and helpful, thanks!

Luis Z: Just followed this video but used a 2 blade instead of going down to the 0 or 0.5 blade you used. The steps were incredibly helpful on just giving my undercut a much needed touch up

Zousky: Brooo thanks so much.. my head shape from the back is similar to yours and I couldn’t cut the back right after like 4 times trying to cut my own hair.. your tutorial was perfect and even tho I messed up on the fade it still looks alright

Resolve: you're an amazing teacher, love the energy and how you explain stuff, bout to cut my hair now wish me luck haha

Arthur Powers: Thanks to your video I finally grew a pair and razor faded my hair. Thanks!!!

John Eckman IV: Thank you so much, " Jensen." Maybe, I'll turn out to be a pro just like you. You're the very best. Top notch. Sincerely, Jonny

ExpHurtFan: I've been cutting the sides of my hair since covid but I'd never cut the top of my hair which is long like the style in the video because I was afraid I would ruin the whole style. Now after watching this I will try to cut all of my hair and see how it goes!

ً: I cuted my hair without mirror i follow what you did step by step. i was getting so nervous anyways everything went perfect thanks to you my parents and sibling didn't believe me lmao they thought barber cuted my hair

dooham: I just tried this on my boyfriend and it came out great! Thanks!!

Jota Gonçalves: Dude, I just wanna say thank you. I was looking for some tutorial to cut my own hair and, after watching some, your video was BY FAR the best one (also, it's the style that I usually do, so even better!). Nice guidelines, explanation, everything. I did it and it was amazing. Thanks.

Amrit Ranjan Deuri: It's an excellent tutorial video of self-hair cutting procedure. Keep it up.

Joseph Stalin Chiden Communist Sniff Lord: Dude this is THE best dyi haircut I've seen. So precise and so thorough

S3CT10N8: Really good video dude, thank you for the detailed explanations!

Samuel Azariah: Hey man you are such a confident person. You are a great inspiration to all the viewers, keep going man!.

Bob Jamer: This video is the most practical and is more clear on how to properly cut your own hair. Thank you so much!

phimonphanh: This was really nice to see hair texture that looks like mine. Hopefully I can get thecourage up and try it myself.

Kent Sarcol: In our house, I've been cutting my brothers and cousin's hair but never had confidence to cut my own hair not until I watched this vid HAHAHAH Thanks for this and I now have my new cut with me.

Princess Feli: thanks for making this video, exactly what i was looking for. i just bought clippers and hair scissors from ebay to cut my husbands hair. if it turns out good i’ll cut my brothers hair too and both of them wont need to go hairdresser again all the other videos i watched the result was pretty bad. cant believe they released it as a tutorial

SRIVATHSAVA: Dude this really helped . I'm not only cutting my hair but I'm also givin my dad a hair cut. Well it actually worked

Saltypeenutz1: After watching the video, my hair came out pretty good. My tips are 1. Start with the largest size that you have and work your way down. - 4 > 3 > 2 2.take your time 3.if you can get someone else in house to line up the back

Kugan Dayalan: Thank you so much for this guidance ! Now Im defo not having any double thoughts in cutting on my own.

Loan Cao: Clear directions, love it!

Thịnh Phan Đức: I saw your video, tried and failed for about 4 to 5 times in about a year and a half. And one day, one random day, I just made it. Thanks a lot!

DZT0021B: I used this method today. First time solo hair cut. Not bad. Thanks!

Darryl Carter: Best diy video I've seen. Just gave my self the best haircut ever with some changes- Use a Conair even cut to set max length on the 'yamaka' after setting the low fade with the number 1. You go in circles and get a defined back and sides look, then start blending with number 2. It helps to keep the 'mulch' out of the way when fading with attachments 2 through 4. Then I use a Phillips one blade to fade the front/side and fade that into the side-fade, and to clean the line around your ear and the back bottom line with a mirror. Hard to explain but if you have all three types of trimmers you can probably follow what I mean. Only practical use I ever found for the conair evencut. It's. Avoid blender but DO NOT try to cut your whole head with it. You'll end up just 'number onnning' the whole head out of embarrassment.

Alexander Hamilton: I've been cutting my own hair for 10 years now. It's so easy and it looks good. Standard business cut. Idiots pay 20 bucks every other week for what I do for free and no one has ever noticed.

Andrew Lopez: Love the vid it gives me the confidence to do it by myself

David Li: I watch this video EVERY time I I cut my own hair, probably my most watched video on YouTube!

Đông Tà: Dude, you're the best cut-your-own-hair guy, thank you so much.

vitalis: I cut my hair myself as well. It's good to see how other people do it.

ibrsh hassh: Today I cut my hair and the result was perfect. Really its wonderful video, thank you so much.

cmdtrigun: Did my first self haircut... it was pretty touch and go. The back is very hard, especially using my phone. I didn't do any fades because I don't usually anyway, so that was easier. The hardest for me was the scissors part, I had such long hair on top that I never felt like I got it short enough, but wasn't confident enough to keep going after a while so I just settled. It looks way better than the mess I was expecting.

APC123: dang that's pretty solid! i've been cutting my own hair for about a decade and it wasn't until the last 5 years where there have been really good videos to help me. I wish this was available back then! i've done a lot of bad haircuts hahahaha thanks for the help!

Nelson W: Well done. Doing it live on video is the most impressive part of all.

SuZuKi021mr: I tried to cut my own hair using this video as guidance and i failed. You made it look so easy.

Samuel Rumabar: This is so cool, it helps me a lot thank you dude

Jason L: How do you know what clipper size to use when you are doing the inverted cutting downward movement to round the the hair? Great tip on using your ear as guide. Thanks

Azn: I had the same problem as Jensen tung when I was a kid I’m also asian I can relate and this video was really helpful my hair is looking fresh :)

Antonio T.: I had my wife cut my hair and it went well, all things considered. I normally get a low taper fade, with .5 on the sides and 8.5 up top. My wife, bless her, had such a hard time understanding that the taper fade line goes above the ears and then dips down on the back of the head. She wanted to leave a line evenly around, kind of like a bowl cut! She's gotten a lot better though as she now can use the comb to blend the fade better

V L: Wow. It's not easy to cut your own hair especially the back. Pretty amazing

Zilla 37: Well I gave it a try and it turned out ok. I can leave the house without a hat so I would say thats a win. I just kept telling myself baby steps and take your time. It took me one hour to do it. Slow and stead is the key. Your video really helped out, I even purchased the same clippers that you use. They worked great. Thanks again for the video.

Sovattha Sok: It worked! I always hesitated until I saw your video and the great similarity with my own hair cut.

max feelswell: Worked out really well for me. Thx a lot !

Nur Aizuddin Norafandi: Worked well for me. Thanks! :D
