Hairstyle Tips: Creating A Side Ponytail Using Real Hair Extensions

Stylist Brig Van Osten shows you how to curl real hair extensions using a Enzo Milano clipless iron and use them to create a side ponytail.

I love to have short hair, but I also love to have my hair long on occasion. So I use a hundred percent human hair extensions from his and her calm and it's awesome they just clip in and at the end of the night, when i'm sick of having long hair they clip out. So let me show you how i like to curl this hair. It'S obviously been custom color to match mine. You can talk to your hairstylist about matching color. They have clips and i'll show you shortly how to attach them to your head. But it's just a snap clip and it works really well and once again they are human hair, so they can be curled with a curling iron blow-dried flat iron. Anything you would normally do to your own hair, i'm clipping them to a pants hanger and i'm putting on the heat safe glove that comes with the enzo milano konechno clipless curling iron. I love these irons because I can just wrap the section of hair around it. Hold it in place with the heat, safe glove without burning my fingertips and then just sliding the curl off, and then I'm able to clip it with a single prong clip into place. While it sets and cools i'm going to be using spray to mode hairspray from Bumble and Bumble to heat, protect the hair, so it doesn't singe or get burnt and it's a great flexible hold hairspray, i'm going to be taking 2 inch wide sections missing it with A spray, and then this is so easy - i'm just going to be wrapping it around the iron and holding it into place about 10 seconds, and I just slip it off, kept it all in curl shape and I'm going to clip it into the top of the Hair piece, because it's such a long hair, i'm using two clips and i'm curling all of my sections going all in the same direction, just wrapping the hair right around this clipless curling iron and holding it into place with my hand. If the gloves amazing sliding off the iron and then clipping it into place, so I'm just going to let these curls cool just for a few minutes. Okay they're cooled! So I'm going to take the clips out. You can see it's a nice fluid wave and that's the result you're going to get from wrapping it around the clipless iron, so easy to use i'm using a ionic polishing, paddle brush from go to calm, and i'm going to do one more section of hair like This and then i'm going to show you how to attach it into the head, so i can create a low loose ponytail. Okay, so i have two sections like this that have been pre waved and I'm going for a side, low, ponytail, look! So what I'm going to be doing is I'm going to be clipping these in off to the side, so they're not going to be in the center of my head, and let me show you how to attach these to your head, so you don't lose one on The dance floor, I'm going to section my hair using a rat tail comb, I'm putting it straight onto my scalp, so I'm touching my head with it and I'm running it in a straight line all the way to the back of my head. The straighter. This part is the easier it is for you to get these extensions clipped in as close to the scalp as possible, which is what you want, I'm going to clip this hair out of the way and then I'm going to back home all this hair right up Here at my scalp you're going to need to create a little nest to attach those clips to, and so I'm just grabbing thin sections and literally taking the teeth of the comb and pressing the hair back while holding it with one hand and then I'm switching to Bumble and bumble classic hairspray, it's a firmer holding spray and I'm just going to miss the whole section of hair and let it dry for a section for a second. Then I'm going to open up the clips on the pieces and attach the clip right into that section. I back Colt and clip it tight. Then I'm going to pull the piece tight around the head and attach it into the other side that i did and make sure it's secure. You can see that it's in there, then I'm going to take down another section of hair and I'm going to go just about an inch and a half above at the last section, I'm going to back home the hair and then spray and put the clip in And press the clip shot, pull around tight and I'm going to take that clip right into that section of hair and tight. Let my hair down okay! So it's not looking very real right now, so i'm going to show you what to do now to work. My own hair into it it's very easy: i'm using half size gold bobby pins they're, my favorite and they're, also very tight, so often you'll find bobby pins can tend to loosen after use. I always recycle mine. These are great bobby pins. I got them at sally beauty supply and they stay tight, so you can use them over and over and over again, i'm going to miss all my hair, a little bit of classic spray to add some messy texture. I'M going to rough up these pieces of it with the brush and I'm just going to brush back and then I'm just going to take my hair very loosely and bobby. Pin it off to the side there you go. That'S how I took my hair into a loose low side, ponytail using one hundred percent human hair pieces. You

JDLHJDLH: Yeah, it looks very real... You know, I really loved one of the looks you had on one of the shear genious episodes, the one where you styled Bo Derek's braids. You had a side ponytail with the extentions but I noticed they were scaled, or layered, and it was so neat and tidy, I really loved it. If you want to replicate that, I'm really interested to see how you do it =D
