Hair Tutorial: How-To Control Baby Hairs Along The Hairline

Matthew Collins demos how-to control the baby hairs around the hairline and how to use foam on dry hair for preferred texture.

Hey everybody, my name is Matthew, Collins and I'm here at the 110th L'Oreal professional anniversary or a professional was the first company that invented hair color 110 years ago, and we're celebrating that today our segment is something that takes natural, beautiful, sexy hair into something. That'S a little bit more avant-garde and edgy. So what I'm gon na show you we're in the prep mode right now and I use L'Oreal professional volume lifts which is my favorite mousse. It'S a three hold mousse, so it doesn't overly stick the hair and a lot of people don't like to put mousse on wet hair. It'S a. I mean dry hair, it's a little bit tricky, but with the level 3 hold you don't have to worry about it. You can give it some time. The first thing I'm gon na - do I already prepped this a little bit, but you can see she's got all these little baby hairs here and she's got these little kinks here that we can get with the Flatiron, but I first want to work them because I Don'T want to put too much heat on these baby hairs because they already are so much weaker than the rest of the hair, so I'm gon na try to do that with a brush and a blow dryer first, my first move that I do is I take This volume list - and I put about that much in my hands - I always like to break it down in my hands because it gives it a little bit more give. Now. I come in front of her face and I make sure that all those baby hairs have that mousse and product on it. I come up the first thing I'm going to do because I don't know if I might put her in a ponytail. So the trickiest part is these pieces staying down and coming out of a sleep ponytail. So what I'm gon na? Do you see my brush here? It'S very fine, so I put the brush on high and you see I'm blow-drying everything right up so making sure to follow it with that. The second thing I do is, as I'm heating it up my hand, still has a bit of product on it. So I heat it up and I just drag my fingers over top of it and let it cool down and that product comes on. I hit the blow-dryer, and now you can see that that direction is going right up. So if there's a slick, ponytail - and I just want to tuck it - I don't have to put much hairspray in so I'm not gon na get hairspray and gunk all over her ear, which is uncomfortable. And then it's also gon na have this nice tuck and now, as I'm, going see they and make them love you, because if you have these days worried everything you said push, I think the brush fingers and now we can see all that this nice direction without Using a flat iron jet, and then we can do this in the front back and forth. Once I decide where my parts gon na be, I will redo this whole process once I've styled apart, then make sure that that part is slick with no baby hair sitting down again and bring it back as a song. I heat it and let it cool down - and you see how it now has its perfect smoothness, and it also has a lot of volume now the last side. So the final thing: now we have our baby hairs controlled. You would just find whatever natural parting you want if it's a natural look or here wants to part there, so I will allow it to part there. If you look at her hair right now and if she is a lot of baby hair sticking up, you will apply mousse to your hands again and go down like this and then just blow-dry. That part we're gon na put it's so important to have that down. Without having to lacquer it, and if we need more volume, we will back home it so there's a little bit of a cushion, but because we've blow-dried at every direction already you can see she's still gon na have that volume, even though we're finding it out. So don't be afraid to flatten things out, because you can always work it. If there's that right foundation, I'm Matthew Collins follow me on instagram at Matthew, stylist I'll see you guys soon.

Steven S: Just had a quick question. Do baby hairs tend to feel different and have a bit different texture than the rest of your hair? My hair has been feeling amazing ever since I found the right products and be given a routine that works for me. The baby hairs I have feel a bit drier than the rest of my hair. I was told to embrace them and that they will eventually catch up. I also bought a hair clay to tame them. However, just wondering if it is normal that they feel a bit drier than the rest of my hair?
