3 Fab Homemade Hair Masks For Moisture And Growth

3 fab homemade hair masks for moisture and growth

Often times when we buy hair products that work for our hair, we are so focused on how well they work for us that we don’t even bother to look at the ingredients in the product.

For example, all of our shampoos worked pretty well until we learned what sulfate was. Or remember when we were drowning our scalp and hair in Blue Magic until we found out that petroleum did absolutely nothing but clog up our pores?

I admit, paying more attention to how great my hair looks and feels instead of focusing on how healthy it truly is still happens sometimes. However, DIY hair mixes and treatments have solved this problem by giving me the opportunity to not only know what is going in my hair, but to also understand how it is going to affect my hair and why it a good choice for me.

No matter what you put in your hair-whether it is homemade or store bought-most of us are looking for three things: healthy hair, maximum moisture, and hair growth.

After years of research as well as mixing and matching products, I’ve found 3 great DIY Hair Masks that will leave your curls moisturized, defined, and growing!

The All-Natural “Creamy and Sweet” Mixture

creamy mixture

This particular mix is packed with vitamin c* and will help repair your hair after damage or hair loss, as well as condition your hair and give it a nice shine.

What You Will Need:
• 1 small lime
• 1 cup of creamed coconut, coconut milk, or coconut oil*
• 1 Tbsp. of raw honey*
• Bowl and spoon
• A whisk
• A large towel (optional)

Directions:

►The first thing you must do is prepare your coconut product. If you are using coconut milk, you must refrigerate the can for 18-24 hours before spooning out the creamy part.

Make sure the milk is full fat and guar gum free so that the coconut milk will solidify and separate from the coconut water. If you are using coconut* oil, simply use a whisk or electric hand mixer to whip the partially-solid coconut oil* into a cream. For creamed coconut, simply dump 1 cup of the cream into a bowl.

►Take the 1 small lime, cut it in half, and squeeze it into the creamed coconut*. Personally, I like to roll the lime on the counter until it is soft and then cut it open because it allows me to squeeze more juice out of it.

►Squeeze a tablespoon of raw honey* into the mix. Stir everything together until it is whipped and creamy.

►Wash and detangle your hair and then part it into 4 sections. Put a towel around your shoulders to avoid dripping, and then apply the mixture to your hair.

►Let it sit for 30 minutes before you rinse it out with cool water. Style as usual.

The Moisture-lover’s Dream

shea butter
This mix is great for when you need some added moisture in a short amount of time. “The Moisture-Lover’s Dream” has anti-inflammatory and healing properties that nourishes the scalp and promotes hair growth.

What You Will Need:
• 1 cup of 100% Pure and Unrefined Shea Butter*
• 1 Tbsp. of Aloe Vera Gel*
• ¾ cup of Korean Red Ginseng Powder*
• 1 Tsp. of Jojoba Oil
• Bowl and spoon
• Disposable shower cap*

Directions:

►Scoop out one cup of your pure and unrefined shea butter* and put it in a bowl along with the Korean Red Ginseng Powder*, Aloe Vera gel*, and Jojoba oil. Mix the ingredients until the powder dissolves and it is smooth.

►If your hair is dry, spritz it with a little water before applying the mixture. After it is damp, apply the paste to your hair-especially around the edges on the tips, and then slick it back with your hands.

►Secure a disposable shower cap* on your head and let it sit for 15 minutes before you rinse with warm water. After rinsing it out, you can either style your hair as usual or seal it with oil.

The Ginger Clay Mask

“The Ginger Clay Mask” acts as a natural humectant and detox, keeping your hair moisturized and cleansed. The mix is also great for thickening thin hair and contains zinc-which increases scalp stimulation and strengthens your hair’s protein structure.

What You Will Need:
• 1 Tbsp. Jamaican Black Castor oil*
• 1 ½ cups of Bentonite Clay*
• 1 Tsp. of Organic Ginger Root Powder*-
• 1 cup of Apple Cider Vinegar*
• Stainless steel bowl and spoon

Directions:

►Before you pour the Bentonite Clay* into your bowl, determine how much mix you will need for your hair depending on its thickness and length. I have mid-back length 3c/4a hair, so I use about 1 ½-2 cups of the clay powder as base for my mix.

►After you pour the clay into your bowl, gradually pour in the apple cider vinegar*. If you see the mix begin to bubble, do not be alarmed-it is supposed to do that. Also, the more vinegar you apply, the easier it is to rinse out.

►Add in a tablespoon of Jamaican black castor oil* and a teaspoon of organic ginger root powder*; mix until it is a smooth, mud-like consistency.

►You can either apply the mask to your hair after you’ve sectioned your hair off and detangled or section your hair, apply the mask, and then detangle. Either way, your hair should be dry before applying the clay.

►After you apply the clay mask to your hair, let it harden on your hair. I suggest washing it out with warm or hot water and then rinsing with cold water to keep your hair from drying and frizzing.
