Skyrim Inspired Christmas Hair

This is a holiday hairstyle inspired by one of the hairstyles spotted on an NPC in Skyrim. I thought it was pretty and do-able, and my shorter haired sisters can rejoice, because BSL hair or longer should work. (I'll see what Siobhan says...lol.) You don't have to use the ribbons, but I think they really add to it. This one is also good for my girls who love RenFaire hair. I hope you all like it as much as I do!

P.S. Siobhan is a total goddess and figured this out for you on BSL length hair. Bow down before her greatness! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoL1jBr... Also? I think hers actually turned out better than mine. :o) God, I love her.

Hi guys um it. The picture might look a little different today, because my camera that I usually use, which was my Sanyo um - something happened to it and it got all broken all the clippy's broke. So I got another Christmas present earlier that I wasn't even thinking. I was getting, which is a new digital camera from my husband, because uh you notice I own with the tutorials, so anything anyways. The only problem is that this one had this little tiny mirror. So I could always see if I was in praying and now it doesn't have that, and so, where you see me looking up or doing this number it's because my comes a mirror on the back of the other door, so hopefully I'll try and Stan frame any Qoodles Skyrim here, but not just any Skyrim here today, Skyrim holiday here, so you were going to meet um two bigger hair ties, four of the little clear elastics and some ribbon. I wanted to do these with one red and one green, but the dollar store had only green, so we're going to keep it with one color today, but we gets the loop DS. I think it would be really cute if you had one red Lucy and one green Luffy. That'S just me: okay, we're gon na start by, of course, for tank free and then we're gon na split our hair down the middle. The first attempt I did of this style - I did Dutch lace braids up top, but upon further reflection of the picture in question um, I didn't really like it. It didn't look quite like I wanted, so we're actually gon na make it a little easier. I know: don't you guys like to hear that here slip down the middle and then we're going to try one side off to get it out of the way? How does we always do central there? We go just so you know we don't have to deal with half of our hair trying to play with the other half. I hope you all enjoy my techie Christmas sweater today, umm, it is sequence on. You know how I feel about sequins. I don't think it's ugly, so tacky yes, but it's not like those ugly Christmas, sweaters and I've had it since middle school. I think so um, even though the bottom of it keeps getting fatter top of me is pretty much stayed fairly. The theme! Ah, okay. Now let me show you this dye and, as you know, I will do the other side exactly the same as I do this side. So what we're gon na do is we are going to pull a portion of our hair. Let'S say this much see it looks. Spacey right there so move something in the middle fill this out. Alright, so about this much and we're going to braid it just a regular braid um. You know I'm going to do a straight English braid with these. You can, of course, this entire here hairstyle feel free to do rope braids, if you would prefer that's cool. I'M gon na go with English braids because they are simple and it will look a little more like the style. I think um, which you know hey. It'S a video game, so it's not like it's real hair, it's pixels! So it's kind of how we interpret but we're gon na want to braid to the back and I debated um either. You know just braiding to a portion like I had original, but I think it'll be neater and prettier if we go ahead and bring all of it and then we'll use this kind of as an accent braid to cover up artworks. So I'm gon na finish braiding. This and then I'm gon na do the same thing on the other side and then what we're gon na do is put two ponytails close together on the back of our head and I'm gon na try really hard to make them dead level. So I will be back once we have all that messed on. Okay, alright guys! So I'm we're back and we should have these two braids right here, make sure everything yeah and on the back of our heads we should have two big tails, um, hopefully fairly well, centered mine are almost totally level. So I owe - and I totally lied before - you're gon na need bobby pins or hair pins too. I kind of forgot that early now I just forgot to mention them so anyways, it's on to the ribbon um. How much ribbon you need is going to depend on how long your hair is um. So what I have done is you see? This is a really small piece, but from my ponytail I measured because I wanted some extra at the bottom, almost a foot longer than my hair, because it's going to take up some length when we braid it in, and I wanted a little extra to futz around With so that you know we can do like bows and all that stuff. So what we're gon na do is we're gon na take these and we're gon na tie around our ponytail um when working with ribbon. I find it a lot easier to start with ponytails. Just because it gives us a place to anchor so I'm gon na do this and then what we do is we're gon na right it into our hair by we're just English braiding it. And since we have two strands, we will use two strands. One strand three strands: new English braid to where those are gon na have ribbon in it pretty simple, but I'll show you how to start that over there here we go all right, only three strings and, like I said, the two outside strands should have ribbon and Then we're just gon na braid, that's it so I'm gon na braid these and time off, and then I will be back to show you the next step. Okay, alrighty guys! So here we are, I'm afraid. Um, don't worry about these ones for now mess with those in a minute so um for my guys with shorter hair. This will be nice for you because your loops will be smaller. You'Re not gon na have to finagle. As you see, mine loops would be really long and I want them sure. So, let's start with the left side newbie, I want my loop to be approximately there, so I'm just going to move it as such up around my ponytail holder, and then I mean separate ribbon from my actual tail here. What you want to tuck the tail and like so all right so when we run into three, but my tail is pinned okay, we're gon na do the same thing with the other one now um, as you could see from the style, her loops do not intersect, But I thought it was cute, so I'm going to take this and run it through this one and then attempt to get my loops right and we depend this one off and then pull my pull. My ribbon away from I'm gon na strap you my hair and tuck these and the bobby pin okay. So let me check real, quick, okay, look like alright it'll, be okay, we'll fix it! Okay! So now you have all of you ribbon that we are going to well flap them back for a moment. I need another pin on this side. There you, okay, we're gon na, take these and we're gon na pull back and cross over the top and then down under and round and under and rabi, we'll need some more pins, of course, for our straight ends, I know the pinning is fascinating. I apologize. Maybe I should have that out for you, but any whoodles, so we're all pinned and I'm gon na have another look to see where we are excellent. We look pretty good thus far and I know you're going, but we have all these just ribbons. I got around like crazy, pants, okay, so you can either just make one big bow as such, which will of course be your simplest option, which I think it's pretty. Of course, you would go through a lot of trouble with your various ribbons and do this number, where you pin duties like this and pin, which would be really pretty, but this was actually what I was going for. Oh hold up. I see the problem. Let'S go around once and then back up and then neighbor bow there we go there yay. I thought I dressed already so any whoodles yay there is my custom um Skyrim inspired tutorial um. If you would like it without the ribbon, then just don't um, but I think this makes acute holiday. Look you've got your little oopsies interconnected. You do not have to interconnect them. Of course you can need them separate and it'll still look like you know the little bun and your loops, but um hope you, like it um for my finishing touch. My friend Jamie, I babysat her for babies. While she went to Arizona to meet her family, they had their Christmas early. She found these for me because she asked I wanted anything and I said hope you find something: sparkly um, as you can see, they're for Lydia, los Muertos the Day of the Dead, but since one scholars green and what is red, I thought they were very cool. Christmas earrings, my Belinda, would like them anyways um. There we go. I hope you like it um. I hope you try it anyways woohoo. Now I am gon na go play some Skyrim alright, until next time have a great day bye.

Krissa: I love this ! I was very happy when Siobhan did her version cause we have the same hair length. So i wore that for christmas and it was so beautiful ! Thank you Heather ! And btw I'd like to play Skyrim sometime...

hypsens88: Yay I was looking forward to this video! And guess what? I tried it! And I loved it! It's a more interesting way to keep hair out of my way than updos and it's quite cute even without the ribbons. I was already falling in love with Siovhan's latest holiday style tutorial and this just complimented hers very nicely. Thanks Torrin! :) oh p.s. it's been my one year anni over on LHC, I made a post on it!

Minyadagniriel: these videos are my inspiration to keep growing my hair, no matter how tempting to cut it. its almost waist length, 6 months maybe :D

MissCarrie: Love the hair, love the sweater :D

PeaceMilly: I just started playing Skyrim and when I saw her I was happy that I remembered you had a tutorial on this and that I could try it!

Tweek Butters: Wow this is breathtaking! I love it, :)

Raquel Ojeda: Love!!! The ribbon really makes it!!! :)

frazee1: It looks so pretty torrin!!! I am going to try this hairdo out! its so pretty and festive!!!

Seppsterei: This is a very cute hairstyle. And you are wearing a Gem-Sweater! You're awesome! :D

Lady Melly In Wonderland: sooooooooooooooo pretty! i am so gonna try it!

KoolBarry: Interesting, I have never heard of Skyrim until now, graphics look amazing, I doubt this laptop will run it though. Love the way you linked the two loops together, looks great and love the ribbion in the braids, not really a fan of the bow though, but to each their own, great job.

Lakeof Glass: By the way, I love that you're into Skyrim. I knew I liked you! But then again, who wouldn't? You always strike me as the kind of person who can make friends anywhere.

LaDollyVita33: Heather I absolutely LOVE this! I will definitely give it a shot because I think it is so pretty and it looks super on you! I hope I have enough ribbon! LOL! Also congrats on your camera! I love it! When I got mine last year I felt really awkward at first because it was SO CLEAR! But you'll get used to it and then it'll be like, "How'd I ever live without this?" LOL As always I loved this vid!

TankenkaNeko: Well done! Regarding the little mirror thingy - I might recommend going to a few craft stores and looking for miniature mirrors that come in pre-cut/formed squares - you might just find one that suits your camera! (Or, perhaps you could carefully pry the one off the old camera and re-fasten it to the new one). Keep up the great work!

DaniMoonlight: Love this! I was gonna make an arrow in the knee comment but someone beat me to it! You rock torrin :)

Life through my eyes: Love ur creative styles I def wear the and so does my 4 1/2 yr old

kathywittes: Wow. So festive. I watch your vids w my 7 mo old...her hair is only one inch now lol but soon enough we'll be doing her hair. Meanwhile I do my best to do styles on my waist length super fine hair. You inspire me to get creative and the ribbons are so romantic and gorgeous.

HoneyLatina Rox: i love christmas sweathers!

Rebecca (eezepeeze): Oh, my gosh, I actually totally had that same sweater in high school. I'm a couple years older than you, but it is the same one. I loved the sequins and thought I was so coooooolll.

Lakeof Glass: I had always thought that Camilla's hair was like Leia's in the Hoth outfit, with just a bun & two looped braids. I like your's so much better though. I wish I had seen this sooner! It has me tempted to draw her with this hair if I ever do illustrations based on my fanfic (which I try to make more novel formed).

kittylaw82: Consider this the hairstyle successfully done on me! I'm not really good with bobby pins but I managed to put them in right today. So super happy! My hair comes just below my breasts and its thick. But I did it! Thank you! I would post a pic but I don't know how.

Raquel Joann: I'm gonna try this for when I go shopping tomorrow. :D

A M: :O Nice job! :3

metrykat: Awesome. Gonna do it tomorrow

Elise K: Hey torrin! I have never played Skyrim, but I did try this hairstyle, and loved it. My hair is shorter than yours, so I used Siobhan's idea of making two braids in each pigtail, and it came out really cute. So yay! But anyway, another totally awesome Skyrim-related video showed up in my subscription list, so I thought I'd share it with you. I can't seem to post a link, but if you search "rockimmer" (her username) and Skyrim it should show up :)

KateandBree: I definitely have to try this one out. I have layered, fine hair that is close to BSL length at it's longest and I can let you know if it works on my hair if you would like me to. Siobhan's hair is a bit thicker than mine, so you'll be able to know if it works on thick, medium and fine hair. (I'll try and send you a photo too. If you have a FB account, I can friend you there and show you my results there.)

Candystuffing Chohan: So nice and intricate

tinglesrosyrupeeland: Pretty!!!

AmazingAmy: I'll have to try this soon. I would now but I just did my first successful braided chinese bun without needing any pins so I'm hesitant to take it down.

Barbara Ziblis: The picture of in-game looks very much like Leia's Bespin hair with the addition of the accent braids. Your style does look inspired but isn't quite like the one in the picture (but it is very cute!). How I typically make the Leia hair is one pony split into three, two braided and looped and then the rest bunned over the ends.

anqeiicdemise: I just did a version of this today. My hair is much shorter than yours (I'm at waist currently) but it still came out kick-assingly awesome. I need to get me some ribbon to wear it with to make wrapping the ends around the pony easier. Stupid layers. -.-

Lakeof Glass: I have layers too. Don't fret, you can still braid if you take it slow and oil your hair well before braiding. If you already oil a little bit every day, this will be no problem. I do it as a leave in conditioner. My layers behave better and I can do braided buns pretty easily.

akeny1: im going to try this for my sister weding

Peace&Cookies〉(^_^)〈: For some reason I just could not comprehend how this was uploaded on the 15th of December when it's the 10th of December today... Then I looked real hard and realised... This was in 2011..xD Awesome tutorial!

GingerAyell: Threading/interlocking/feeding one of the fatter braids into the other side is great! But you could also take the two side braids and criss-cross them over into a figure eight around the ponytail holders of the fatter two. This is my contribution to society for today.

torrinpaige: @DamiettadCarnivalle BSL - Bra Strap Length...I tend to use the acronyms since I cater to people who either already have very long hair or are actively growing it out. I even have a vlog on hair terminology, if you are so inclined. :o)

torrinpaige: @BrielleCroft88 Woohoo on the Leia hair. That's always a good comparison.

AnimaSola3o4: Take a dental mirror (the little ones that you use to see inside your mouth, and attach the mirror to the digital camera. :) You can just stick it on there when you're taping if you want. :)

Prisca Lu: what kind of brush do you use?

torrinpaige: @MibaWhiber Well, yes I know it doesn't look exactly like the style. That's why I put inspired by in the title. I wanted to show the original inspiration and then I switched it up for a holiday style for myself. I could have re-created it exactly, but I was trying to show my viewers how they can see one hairstyle and turn it into something else. I know not everyone has my length, but I figure they can take one of my styles and adapt to their own hair...it was an example.

torrinpaige: @tmiller344 You can't realize how happy that makes me. Having no little ones of my own, it warms my heart to know that the little ones of others can still appreciate me.

Laynie Fingers: DAMMIT! I was just about to comment, saying I used to do my hair but took an arrow to the knee, but ROBOTICSTARDUST COPIED ME WITH TIME TRAVEL! :D

Kassandra Lamb: I got all excited when I read "BSL hair." But then I realized that I had layers. *sad face*

AnOldeSoul Soul: What on earth is BSL length hair?

Tatiana Lozano: I LOVE YOU

torrinpaige: @PeaceMilly04 Hehehe. Awesome!

torrinpaige: @roboticstardust You do realize that you totally fricking rule right now. I can't believe you worked arrow to the knee into a comment for me. I feel so privileged.

Riften Guard: @Yvaine Snow Not me! I used to do the same thing, though.... Then I took some scissors to the hair :(

torrinpaige: @eezepeeze And where i that sweater now, my dear.? we could be twinkies!
