What do I use to film? Sony ZV-1

How old am I? 20

What college do you go to? I attend The University of South Florida

How long have I been Natural? All of my life, however, I started my hair growth journey in 2014

In my opinion, none of these things actually make your hair grow like. I am very skeptical of things that happen too fast. The things that look too easy, i feel, like anything good, comes with time and if you're, taking shortcuts or um cheating your way out of time, it's gon na catch up to you and you're gon na regret. It hey guys welcome to my natural academia in today's video, i'm gon na, be explaining to you guys the secret to having long, hair or healthy hair. I should say all right so, as i explained to you guys my perspective of the secret, i mean there's tons of ways to grow your hair, but, as i explained to you, guys my belief in understanding of how to get long hair, i'm going to be doing Some mini twists on my hair and the two products i'm going to be moisturizing with is the tji daily moisturizer, which i always use, as well as the promised olive oil grow therapy. So those are the only products i'm going to use to moisturize my hair. I'Ve already sectioned and parted my hair and the parts are looking kind of rough, but honestly, i'm gon na have these twists in a ponytail for like a week and a half before i start, this hair grow challenge journey or whatever. I don't even know what it's called. I got an email a really really long time ago, in around january, the beginning of this year or before that even well, someone well let me go, go ahead and just read it to you guys first and then continue on all right, so the email was pretty Long, if you guys would like to read it, you can go ahead and just pause. The video right now and just read it. This is actually only the first half of the email. Some of the things i'm going to be touching on later on in the video is the part where it says that you don't need leave-in, conditioner or, and the part where it says you don't need to condition your hair to be shampoo, and you don't need oils And butters, i didn't even bother touching on the point where it says all you have to do is shampoo conditioner and apply gel, even if your hair is 4c, i just that has to be some sort of troll. This email is practically what inspired the video in the first place, which is why i thought it would be kind of interesting to just throw it in here anyways when i was younger, when i had you know, shorter hair and i'll insert a picture of how my Hair used to look like when i started first started taking care of it. I used to watch a lot of youtube videos on um how to take care of my hair, how to get it to go longer and stuff like that, and i feel, like we've all been through that phase. But i used to watch a lot of those videos and in a lot of those videos i used to see people do all sorts of different treatments with eggs and mayonnaise and aloe vera and a bunch of stuff to get their hair to grow longer. Granted. I never really tried any of these treatments until i want to say last year 2020., i was very mesmerized to see how long people's hair got by using like rice, water and things of that nature. I never really when my hair was short. I never really thought that i would ever get long. This is the longest my hair's ever been in my entire life last time i measured it was about waist length, it might be a bit longer than that now, but i don't want to lie to you guys. So i don't really know i'm not going to run around the bush with the answer to this question: the answer to the secret of hair growth, because i pretty much say in every single one of my videos or every single one of the videos. I talk about growing your hair, the secret to growing long hair. Long healthy hair is low maintenance and i feel like a lot of people, don't really understand what that means. I think when i say low maintenance people just translate that in in their head as complete neglect, but one thing that i've consistently done throughout my entire natural hair growth journey from age 12. To now, i'm now 20 was just doing low maintenance. Hairstyles not touching my hair, when i didn't need to not washing my hair when i didn't need to so, even though i was watching all these videos on youtube and stuff like that, it was more so because they were relaxing, and i just i like watching people Touch their hair, that's one of the biggest reasons as to why i watch those videos, i'm not, and i'm not even gon na stay here in line be like. Oh, my gosh. I'Ve never tried anything that a youtuber has recommended because i have like um when that whole rice water thing was trending. I went out and bought rice to go. Do this little um rice water thing with my hair, but i never did it uh, because i was scared that my hair would fall off. But i i did impulsively go out and buy a lot of things, but, as i um grew older and as i started kept taking care of my hair, one thing i realized was that not bothering it and leaving my hair alone was probably one of the biggest Things that has helped my hair grow throughout the years, and i feel like a lot of times these treatments that are being uh shown to you guys on the internet, these treatments that are being advertised to you guys, because that is what is mostly on social media. A bunch of advertisements which i mean i'm not going to knock anybody's hustle, go ahead and make your coin, but don't lie to people. You know it makes me very uh annoyed when i see people kind of advertising a certain thing to be the holy grail of hair growth. I feel like there are some specific things that work for people better than others, and the foundation of growing your hair is low maintenance. But on top of that you also have to take care of it so moisturize and wash and condition and do all this stuff right, but you don't need the fanciest product to do that. You don't need the most intricate treatments to do that. I feel like a lot of times, especially in the natural hair community or the natural hair grow long community or whatever you want to call it a lot of people. Their biggest goal and vision is to grow their hair. So if they see something um work on one person, they automatically assume that it'll work on them too, instead of going out of their way to test to see if it'll work, so they they, they kind of idolize. That thing like coconut oil, when it when everybody was raving about it or majority of people, were raving and saying: oh, my gosh. This is the best thing to ever happen to me, and then you had the other half of the natural hair community go ahead and try the coconut oil. A lot of people didn't really have a good experience with it. Till this day there are some people that use it and some people that don't because there's some products that work on some people and other products that don't work on some people, it's all a matter of finding what works best for you, anyways, i'm, a very big Advocate on doing what works best for you, i don't think following my exact hair regimen will make your hair grow as long as not mine, because your hair might require something that my hair doesn't like, for example, a couple of videos ago. It was a couple months ago i put out a video saying that i'm never moisturizing my hair with water. I'Ve never been one to moisturize, my hair with water. Ever i've always seen people do it in the videos, and i just for some reason. I just knew that it wasn't for me, because, whenever water gets in my hair it gets sucked up really quickly and it also dries out really quickly. Whenever i moisturized my hair with water in the past like years ago. I just find that my hair would get really dry, so i did it again to see if anything would change a couple months ago and my hair came out looking brittle and gross, and disgusting and i'll go ahead and put insert a little clip right here. But anyways there are some people in the comment section like um agreeing like hey. Yes, my hair does uh get dry as well when i moisturize with water. There are loads of people also saying that they can't moisturize their hair without water and, like water, is their source of moisture, and that just comes to show how two different regimens can lead to a greater outcome. For, like a better word like you, don't have to follow my exact hair routine to have a better result or good result in your hair. You don't have to buy the same products that i buy. You don't have to use. You don't have to you know you. Don'T have to follow my regiment to the team, i feel like that's what a lot of people don't understand. Sometimes i go on social media and i see thread discussions of natural hair and how to take care of it and how to get it to go longer and stuff like that, and i go through it, and people are like oil, oil, your scalp every every three Days, do this do that spray, your hair with water and all that all that extra stuff - and i'm just like in my mind, all you have to do is let your hair be leave it alone and it'll flourish. Just fine - and i don't mean that like neglect and ignore your hair, like i've done in the past, i don't mean like that. Ignore your hair, for as long as your hair can handle is my suggestion but um. Whenever i see these comments, i'm just like. First of all, i don't think you need all these things. I don't think you need them right, but some people genuinely need to oil, their scalp or also feel dry and itchy, and some people genuinely need to spray water in their hair else. You know it'll dry out, i don't know what the case may be, but certain people need to do certain things for their specific hair type or specific hair texture. And whenever i go on social media - and i see threads of people debunking some of the most common things that people do to their hair, like moisturizing, grease or um oil - or i don't know, conditioning their hair, pre-pooing and stuff like that. So the most common things that people um usually do to their hair. Whenever i see people debunking it, i'm just like who are you to say that um what this person does to their hair is damaging if it's been working for them. You know what i mean when i read that email, it kind of i i don't know. I was very annoyed in the email it was like um, hair oils and hair butters shouldn't be used on your natural hair. Who are you to say that hair oils and butters shouldn't be used on on your hair? Like that's, i might sound biased, but that's literally what i've been using my entire hair growth journey and has helped me to retain a lot of my length in addition to um, manipulating it as little as possible, oh by the way i'm doing spring twist. So i started off with a braid and then i merge. I merge it into a twist i'll show you guys an up close whenever i get up front. If you guys care to see, i don't think people really care to see me do my hair. Whenever i do videos of me doing my own hair people, don't really people don't really watch it, they don't really care anyways. I wanted to kind of organize this video and the points that she made in the email, but i'm kind of a little bit all over the place. I wanted to touch on the whole conditioning part with the whole only needing to condition your hair once a week and that you don't need leave-in conditioner. In my personal opinion, uh i feel like there are a lot of products that you don't need. That'S just my personal opinion. I feel like there are a lot of products that are marketed to people with natural hair that you have absolutely no use of, but there's always going to be an outlier. There'S always going to be that one person that finds um that one product that nobody uses helpful but anyway, just because i wouldn't use a specific product doesn't mean it wouldn't work on somebody else like i've, never been one for leave-in conditioners. I didn't even know that was a thing leaving lotions and uh stuff like that. I'Ve never been one to do that. I'Ve always ever only used grease up until 2020. I started using the daily moisturizer on my hair. In my opinion, the daily moisturizer has been kind of revolutionary to me. It just helped my hair to stay moisturized much longer than just applying grease to it. I'Ll give it that i'm just trying to understand who's washing who's out here, washing their hair once a week. Do you know how much time and energy it takes to wash your hair? That'S an entire job. It takes me at least six hours to wash condition moisturize and that's if i condition for like 30 minutes. If i condition overnight, it takes me a practically a day to for my wash day so who who's out here washing their hair once a week, deep conditioning and pre-pooling once a week who who's out here doing this because it ain't me yeah, i haven't, met one Person in real life, who does that and that's another thing. I wanted to point out a lot of things you guys see on social media. You kind of have to like give yourself a reality check a little bit and that's why i don't take a lot of things i see on social media um heavy or to the heart. People can talk all this rah-rah and all this extra-ness on social media, but in real life everybody just doing their own thing, like everybody is just doing what works best for them and that's the beauty of reality like if you open your eyes and go outside and Get off your phone for a second, you will see that people really just be out here doing their own thing. It just kind of makes me a little bit annoyed when i see people kind of advocating you got to do this. Specifically, you got to do that or uh doing this aloe vera stuff or doing this rice, water stuff. This is this is what's going to make your hair grow. This that's! What'S going to make your hair grow, it's like, in my opinion. None of these things actually make your hair grow like. I am very skeptical of things that happen too fast. The things that look too easy, i feel, like anything good, comes with time and if you're, taking shortcuts or um cheating your way out of time, it's gon na catch up to you and you're gon na regret it. So, that's why i've never i've never been on any uh pills or supplements, or anything like that. I just let my hair grow with low maintenance. Low maintenance is the key to having long hair, leave your hair alone, and it will grow. There'S a reason why people who wear wigs um like whenever they take their hair out after a wig season or whatever their hair grows, really really long. It'S because they they're not bothering it they're, not manipulating it they're, not causing strain on their hair they're, leaving it alone under the wig. These twists are coming out. Real nice, though i'm so hungry. It is the middle. Oh, i forgot to mention it's the middle of the night. It is 12. 34. That'S why i look like a bum. I was supposed to say that in the beginning of this video, because i know somebody gon na be like every time you come on camera, you always look like a little bum. That'S not my fault. This is how i usually go to sleep. I want to change this shirt, though, because it's going to be all greasy all right guys. So i finished my hair off camera because i just could not concentrate on talking and doing my hair at the same time, and this is how it's looking um, it looks really nice. My hair shrunk a lot, but you know it's twist, i'm probably well. Let me show you guys the parting. I really i tried, but some of the parts are kind of crooked. This, whatever i'm gon na show you guys the back side. This is how my ends are looking. You know they look healthier than i thought they would a lot better than i thought they would honestly they don't look terrible. I think they look very healthy and bouncy so yeah. That'S how my hair is looking overall um, probably most likely. Well, whenever i do my hair like this, i usually just wear in a ponytail and put it in a in a bun, yeah, probably i'll, probably wear my hair in a in a little ponytail but anyways. The premise of this video was to explain to you guys that you don't really need to do much to grow your hair long or grow it at all period, the biggest advice or the biggest thing that i've seen that has helped my hair to grow throughout these Years is low manipulation i feel like low manipulation is a key to hair growth, but people a lot of people don't want to wait. A lot of people are impatient. We live in very microwave society. Everybody wants things quick and fast, which is understandable, but when it comes to things like hair growth, i think it should be a little bit more normalized um that your hair is not going to grow overnight and the quickest thing i feel like in my opinion, that Helps hair grow is to just not manipulate it as much and when you're not manipulating it, don't completely neglect, it still take care of it. Just don't always have your hands in it. Don'T always have a comb and just comb through it all the time. Just let it be with that being said, i'm going to show you guys all the hair that i lost while recording this video all right. So i lost this much hair in the video there's still a few hairs that look like these on the floor. Like a few of them, but no not enough to make this ball any bigger, but this is pretty much the amount of hair that i lost doing this video and i started doing my hair around 11, 30, 11, 30, almost 12 o'clock, and now it is 6 30 on the dog, so it took me about six hours - seven hours - i don't know my brain isn't working. I need to go to sleep, i'm so tired, but anyways. If you guys have any comments, questions or concerns regarding anything that i said throughout this video, definitely leave a comment down below and i'll, be happy to answer and i'll see you guys next time.

Princess Kee: My hair thrived on hair grease and water only when I first went natural but one look at YouTube videos about growing it long hair and I ditched it for high priced products and methods that take a month to complete I am back to the basics and simplicity and my hair has never been better. i keep my hair in three styles only (twists, cornrows and mini braids) I shampoo and condition, deep condition and protein treatment when needed and trim when needed, my styles last 3-4 weeks. I also PRAY over my hair and keep God first, some people think it’s weird but God gave me my hair, so it makes sense to grow it for His Glory too and keep Him at the center of my desire to grow it long. Prayer, patience and a little hair grease. Lol I’m shoulder length moving towards armpit and my ultimate goal is waist length or longer so I can prove to people in my family that black hair CAN and DOES grow!

LION2.0: Quote of the day “ Anything good comes with time”

Mikalia Hylton: Genetics play a major role in hair growth. Some hair textures grow faster and require little to no help. We just need to learn our hair.

MooMilkMilk: My hair is tailbone length. I've been natural all my life but could never grow it past mid back length at first. The only thing that ever ever everrrr has worked was leaving it the fuck alone. Braid that shit up, re-braid once every month/2 months or so, keep that up for about a year and boom, you'll see your hair grew like weeds.

Amira NYCz Muslimah: I understand what she’s talking about but did anyone notice that for the first 8-9 mins of her video she’s been finger detailing and massaging the products in her hair (that 1 section). Her hairs grows cause she takes the time to do such things and do her best to be consistent about it. That’s how u grow healthy long hair.

Kayla Miller: I honestly have no idea what happened with my hair, but once quarantined started my hair started growing like crazy. I think it’s bc I wasn’t stressing abt how I looked for school and I kept heat out of it, now my 4c hair is literally down to my chest and I think it’s because I’ve been leaving it alone and not straightening it. I have a lot of hope and I’m excited to see how much more it will grow. :)

KayMay 💕: I wash my hair once a week and it GREW! I was stuck at shoulder-length hair for all of my life before I decided to cowash and deep condition weekly. Now it is a little bit past my armpits and it took me about half a year to see a big difference. I try to keep my wash day and styles super simple and easy :) not sure if the growth is because I wash it often or if it's just because I make sure it's moisturized now? good luck yall <3

Sopriye Beverly: The key is creating a regimen that works for YOU. Focus on the uniqueness of your hair and then create a routine that works around that. For me, my hair is quite fine so I focus more on minimizing manipulation and maximizing moisture retention. I did a lot of trial and error but honestly I think I’ve found it. My hair is the longest it’s ever been. I find it is good to also keep a hair journal in order to stay on track.

B Scott: I’m a type 4 natural that washes my hair every 1 to 2 weeks because my scalp will start to get mad and my hair will feel hella dry. That has gotten me past bsl and I don’t spend hours upon hours doing it. You’re right, everyone needs to do what’s best for their hair because nobody will understand what your hair needs better than you

Iesha Mitchell: When i was younger my parents used grease and water, and My hair was long before I started using chemicals. Inspired by those times I started making an all natural hair grease, and I have to say between that and low maintenance my hair has been growing so much. I am so excited! The point is you are absolutely correct. Thanks for the video.....

Tamika Cammack: One thing that greatly improved my hair growth was switching from combs to finger detangling. It takes forever, but there’s a lot less breakage.

Leshé: I share your same philosophy on hair and it definitely works More length retention and less setbacks. I'm transitioning out of using hair combs and brushes too. My hair is much healthier without them. Thanks for sharing how water affects your hair. My hair oddly reacts the same so I'll look into that. Love your videos

Jammyyy: After transitioning the routine that I saw the most growth and length retention from was during quarantine when I would use rice water at the beginning of the month , put my hair in braids and put wild growth oil on the roots and ends then leave it for 2 weeks. Just leaving your hair alone is definitely the best thing to do

ese: I’ve tried to do the new “no oil/butter/cream” thing and I couldn’t go past two weeks. My hair started breaking more than usual and it became very dry and itchy. I’m probably doing it wrong but I’m just gonna stick to what I know my hair likes

My Sassy Divine Journey: I totally agree - my hair has grown so much and is the healthiest it's ever been in my adulthood - and basically I dont manipulate it. I moisture significantly every day sometimes a few times a day depending on the weather and I wear a tension free low maintenance style every day. The same style everyday. My hair loves the slow peaceful life - and I respect what my hair wants.

Jo-Anna Moore: My biggest lesson since I’ve returned natural and it has been what has helped me see results in both healthy hair and growth is...‘finding what works for me’.

Abby: The stylists are right according to wash and gos! You are also right with just grease and water! It doesn't have to be a fight within the natural hair community, just do what you want with how you style your hair

Rhonda Beard: My daughter is 14 and she’s been natural all her life but I struggled trying to take care of it but last year I asked my cousin what can I do to her hair so she can wear her natural curls she told me hair grease and a little gel. She told me to twist her hair and that’s what I’ve been doing and her hair has grown so much. I hardly put any heat in it but hair grease saved her hair cause it’s the only thing that will moisturize her hair. As for my hair I’m transitioning and all I do is grease my scalp. I can’t wait for it to grow so I can twist it. I do comb my hair every day because I don’t want my hair to be matted because I sweat in it everyday day. I’ve enjoyed learning about what works and what doesn’t.

Atai: I've seen this thing before too but personally what has helped me grow my hair is leaving it in box braids for 3 months most people say it's not good but my hair has flourished through this. Also I love my leave in conditioners and greese or shea butter( which I get cheaply because its grown in my country) but that's basically what I started doing this year and I've been able to maintain my length.

Raven Rakia: I love watching you do your hair for the record <3 and would love more videos of you doing it. I'm one of those people that wash weekly, but sometimes I have to push it to every two weeks. I've figured out a day to get my wash day done in about 2 hours because I wash it in protective styles. But I definitely use oils and butters and leave in conditioners. I feel like the fact that they're telling people to use gel gives them away. Gel is notoriously not good for your hair. Of course if you do everything else right you can probably use some gel. But oils and butters are 10x better than gel for your hair.

Southern Gurlz: I absolutely love how calm, relaxed, candid, authentic and honest your content is presented…that’s right sister gurl, keep it real thank you!!!!

AMOR3TT3_YOURS3LF: For washing and styling some people could use 3-5 products for the whole wash day, or some people could use 10 products in total. It all depends on your own her and what you think you need for your hair. For me I just shampoo and deep condition and then use the same TGIN cream she used to do twist and keep them in for weeks and do it all over again. The key thing to remember is that there is a lot of trial and error in the beginning to figure out what works best for you.

Bernadettemarie 1959: Your hair looks beautiful and healthy! Actually, I wash my hair once a week, but my hair is short. If I had long hair, I probably would not. I totally agree with leaving your hair alone (it will grow). My relaxed hair grew to a decent length because I ignored my hair pretty much. I'm in my 60's so my hair growth is slower, but because I'm lazy and don't bother it...it's doing OK. I can't complain. My hair loves water...gels not so much. Right now I wash (sometimes a conditioner), then leave in. I'm done (afro). I can't take anymore after this. Well, I loved your video! Take care...

Tasha Arens: This was a much needed reminder thank you❤️ I’ve been natural for like 3 weeks and I’ve been through countless videos trying to understand the best way to go for my journey. I love your channel cause it’s very genuine, and I don’t feel like I’m watching an ad like most videos I’ve watched lol..you seem to know what your talking about. Imma stick with you but I was wondering how often you wash your hair? It’s like a widely known thing for naturals to wash their hair like twice a week but I always thought something was a bit off with that and I remember you commenting on it so

Tammera Calisha: EXCELLENT video!!! You hit the nail on the head when you said do what works for your own hair! And I totally agree about low manipulation. I used to wash my hair every week until I realized it just does not need to be washed every week, so now I wash every other week

Kelly Gilliard: Personally for me how I grew my hair from shoulder length to mid back was leaving it alone. I usually put my hair into some mini twist for about a month, sometimes even longer and my type 4 hair has grown tremendously.

Xiene_02: Honestly, I believe as long as you’re using safe and healthy products for your hair, keeping it moisturized/balanced, and in protective styles, you are GOOD and it will grow!

blackcougar1959: You're right! Low manipulation IS the key for hair growth for me too. I color, wash, and deep condition my hair once a month. I twist it in sections and then wear my wig and wig pieces as protective styles and its grown like wild fire. I think by the spring or summer of 2022, I'll be able to rock my actual, natural hair with confidence.

Caewanya Wood-Davis: I know this is besides the point, but I couldn’t find where I commented on the last video. ANYWAYS: I did the 6 month protective style challenge that you did, only washing every 3 months and moisturizing every 2 weeks. Can I just say that my hair literally grew 3-4inches!! This is the fastest I’ve seen my hair grow. I started at about 12 inches in the back and sides, and 16 in the middle. Currently, after 6 months, my back is at 15 inches, my middle is at 19 inches, and the sides sides are 16 inches. THANK YOU SO MUCH !! Who knew just leaving your hair alone would help!

Ceci1421 Love: I use to wash and condition my hair once a week like when I had a relaxer. However once my natural hair started to grow and got a little length I learned the error of my ways. You are 100% correct! You're real life hair goals! ❤

Portrait of Asha: I wash my type 4 hair once a week and I've been doing so for years. If 'life happens' I may stretch it to ten days but I've been pretty consistent. My hair washing routine is super simple : shampoo, conditioner then I put my hair in four plaits. I have a video on my channel. Leaving my hair unwashed more than a week leads to hairline acne for me plus I love the feel of clean hair.

Mahalia Lees: I'm so pleased to hear this and totally agree, my hair has never been as healthy and grown so much with me leaving it alone simply because I'm lazy I treat about once a month and always in a weave and moisturize about once a fortnight, and definitely never grew when I used all these products and if I knew my giving up/laziness would grow it I would have saved so much money this is why dread locks also grow so long! Leaving it the hell alone

Anita Mothibe: This is so true. I’ve been natural for 3years and every time someone asks me how I grew my hair I usually tell them I hardly do anything. Yeah I’ve tried the rice water and all that but the thing that helped the most was leaving it alone. I don’t force my curls apart I just part my hair where it parts naturally, I style it twice a week and only finger comb. Just leaving it to do it’s thing is what really grows it

Angella Nalunga: You are one of the few influencers that are so genuine, thank you, because of your advice I have seen a big difference with my hair growth. Don't ever stop making these videos.

Nickynatro *: I can relate to both. I have tried a product in which I gained 1 inch in 1 week. But most have negative effects- whether they dry out your hair, change the colour overtime or something else. Since I stop chasing products, my hair is flourishing like crazy. I shared a video of my routine on my channel.

The Life & Times of Coco Laurel: I wash once a week, and throughout the week I rinse my hair and reapply grease with a protective style (twist out, banding method or feed in medium braids. I learned to stop wearing my hair out in Arizona because it’s so fine and gets fried so easily since its so hot here. So this routine has helped me to grow my hair.

Kimmy G: My fine hair loves to be washed. The only time that I experienced a lot of growth was when I kept it greased and moisturised in a protective style like twists or braids along with weekly shampooing and treatments. I think thicker strands can go a longer time between washing and moisturising.

Yocely Alvarez: I love how genuine you are in this video… I needed this I have all types of products in my closet but I don’t use them all smh… my hair really has growth retention so I get frustrated so what I did was leave it alone just wash at least once or twice a month and moisturize… been natural for about 7 years now… I always wished my hair would be longer but idk what else to do but thank you sis I enjoyed this video your hair is absolutely beautiful

Godsweirdchild: Honestly I used to watch a bunch of hair videos partly for entertainment, partly because I wanted to learn about my hair. But the most I learned from my hair was by working with it myself and I learned my hair likes to be left alone‍♀️. My hair grows perfectly fine with box braids and other protective styles. I wash it to refresh every 2-3 weeks when i have braids in so they don't smell and because my scalp can get itchy. And leaving it alone and moisturized when not in styles

Lily Kang: 11:46 me!! ‍♀️ people judged me for it teling me i need it only once once every 2-3 months but my hair and scalp gets too dirty and its itchy but as you said everyone needs to do what works for them and sadly so many people in the natural hair community wont accept that.

Eichelle Zaleka: I wash my hair twice a week. First time with a moisturizing shampoo and the second time I co-wash. I deep condition and detangle both times and my hair is flourishing. I used to use coconut oil but I found out I’m allergic after getting hives on my back. Grape-seed oil does the trick for me and I use grease now too. Truly everyone should do what works for them instead of making hair care a one size fits all community. Love this video

Unknown2Yoo: Your leave ins have water in there, so you're good. You're just doing the sealing and the conditioning all in one step, you know your hair, that's great. When I first transitioned, I did bantu knots every night to keep the ends curled, I could do that with just leave in. Then I think had to use butter (or something) to do a twist out, wear that for two days, moisturize with water and twisting butter and did a flat twist protective style for the next four days. I grew out of the awkward phase pretty quick and then started doing primarily wash and goes. Yes, I prepooed, washed, deep conditioned, and styled once a week. I now do once a fortnight cause I got tired. I do mini twists about three times a year. My hair went from about neck length to the longest point being midback length in about 3 1/2 years. I practically dropped all commercial products and started making my own. Recently I made a hair pomade/grease and that's been working great for my twist outs. So I can attest low manipulation is pretty key.

Sassy S: I wash my hair once a week. I've tried less, following other youtubers and my hair hates it. I love your big twists and your minis came out great. Your hair is my goal!

Emmanuella Caesar: Considering the kind of stuffs (onions, bell peppers, ginger, garlic to make oils)people recommend to be applied to natural hair for growth....I believe we are making sauces out of hairs instead of growth!

karfeisha olyia: So my daughter heard me listening to you while she was doing her school work she said "mom why are you always washing my hair when the girl said leave it alone" she is only 5 yrs and super smart

D Harmon: I'm washing my hair once a week, cause putting products in my require me to wash my hair. I don't go 2 weeks before washing my hair. You go outside and dust goes in your hair as well. It's done well for me, and my hair still grows. I wouldn't keep putting products on dirty hair when I know that my hair needs to be washed

Cherlyn Mckay-Edobor: I used to be a product junkie but now, I just leave my hair alone. When I want my hair to smell good, is when I put a product in my hair. My hair is flourishing I don’t play in it at all I pin it up and go I’ll spray it with oil and water when my hair feel dry but I don’t put products in my hair everyday To be honest, you really don’t need all these different products I drink fenugreek water and I eat fenugreek seeds for my hair growth That’s it

Cynthia Adams: I learning to just keep my hair deep conditioned and oil my scalp and pray my hair is growing!!!

Tae P.: Love the video. I myself started my hair journey back in 2009. I was watching youtube videos after youtube videos and trying damn near everything under the sun to try and grow my hair. I've spent so much money buying every product I would see the 'hair gurus' using, hoping and praying it would grow my hair. But nope. But after watching you, curlyproverbs and sherea, I have finally been able to create a hair regimen where I am FINALLY retaining hair growth. My hair regimen is much more simpler now. It took me 12 years to finally figure out what works best for ME. Now I am more confident than ever that I will finally reach my hair goals ☺️

Asha Lapps: I never comment on hair videos, but loved your insight, authenticity and comfort in your own skin. A great example of reminding/showing people how to think for themselves. Keep up the great work. From

SweetEnvy010: Hair porosity matters! It puts you on the right track once you learn about it. My wash day is once weekly and I may moisturize it in between. I gotta do it. I’m low porosity and my scalp will itch if I don’t AND I’m prone to dryness FAST. But hey that’s my hair and I do what works for it with no store bought products (I make my own products). Yes my wash day is kind of long but I love the results and my hair grows especially when it’s trimmed regularly.

Tracy Renee: I completely agree! I did a lot of things I saw You-Tubers do when I first went natural. Some things helped but some things broke my hair off! It’s so true you have to learn what your hair thrives from, and be consistent with that. I had to sit back and think about it one day. If you focus on a moisture and strengthening balance, it all “grows” into place. Thanks for the real talk about growing healthy 4c hair. There is no miracle growth products. Just patience & TLC.❤️

Just Jenni Lee: Thank you for these videos! You are so real and so honest and I love that! I haven’t gone natural but I use sooo many of your tips on how to care for my hair so thank you.

Zaafirah_El: Your hair looks pretty. Love the hairstyle. So true about low hair manipulation. It does help your hair grow. I also agree that some things work for some in terms of hair care and may not work for others. You just have to see what works for you and stick yo it. I've always had long hair. Growing up. My mom and aunties only used original Dax by its self or mixed it with Liv. So 'til this day, I've used the same thing. I don't really do anything different. It's always worked for my hair so I stick to it. You're beautiful by the way with a great spirit. Keep it up. I'm sure your videos inspire many.

petitejoe: You're right, there is no secret to having long hair, patience and living it alone is the key. Unfortunately some people take advantage of there viewers' frustration to sell them products that aren't necessary. Btw I would definitely be interest in a video where you show how to do this hair style!

As B: Washing my hair every week with sulfate free shampoo. I never took Deep Conditioning seriously but I tried it for a month and my hair grew soo much and it was tangle free. I style with liquid leave in and shea and leave it alone until the next week bc I sweat esp now that its summer. Im working on trying not to detangle so roughly lol

Angel Fenwick: I definitely leave conditioner or leave in conditioner in my hair. Moisturize with oil every 3 days, and keep braided styles in my hair for 3 months, let my hair breathe for 3-4 weeks & back to the braids I go. I feel like when my hair is braided I don’t mess with it too much & it grows faster.

MS. CAROLYN PSKV-SHAPE-TO-SUCCES: I, thank you for sharing your regimen with me and all who are following you. For my opinion loving my hair is a personal relationship. Everyone must understand their own hair and some people can’t leave their hair alone due to it causing thinning and not keeping a healthy hair hygiene and high maintenance which lack of hygiene can cause unhealthy hair. When your hair is protective hairstyles for a long time it can Causes serious breakage and can cause hairlines to break off from pulling hair while in a hair protective hairstyle. This why some people who are wearing wigs and weaves without high maintenance have thin hair and no edges from pulling and glue. Some people inside of the hair communities who are tell us to leave our hair alone their regimen can also cause major hair breakage and also by not keeping your hair clean and Moisturize with water, oils, and creams can cause unhealthy hair. I, have seen people with long hair but their hair is very thin because of low maintenance. I look at the ends of your hair and can see that you are keeping your ends trim from split ends. Also what mades me annoyed is people saying who watch their hair every week their are many people who are watching their hair every week and that is their regiment and no one should tell anyone one about their Regiment is better then theirs. If you don’t wash your hair every weekly that is your business. We who are washing our hair every week have a regimen and love our hair. This is so rude when someone is doing their own regimen and telling someone you that they way is better. This is all about learning about our hair and body from the inside and outside. Some of these hair communities is very greedy and selfish and will tell you anything just to get their channel popping but when you have educated and invested in books and study yourself approval about your hair no one can tell you anything on a 30 minute video washing their hair in rice water which can make the hair hard and overloaded with protein. Hair greasy goes all the way back and before Madame CJ. Walker teaching Melanin from the south and in New York about hair. It’s about educating ourselves and not allowing people to just pass down their new ideas of hair care without studying and examination.

Melanie Williams: It took me sometime but you just have to figure out what works for your hair! Stop listening to all the chatter and learn from your own hair this is the big take away I get from watching videos from you & Napp Queen.

MizzBttrflyChic *: Omg, I absolutely love your candidness! You are the first youtuber that I have seen who does not try to push a certain product or trend. I have low porosity hair which repels water, so I have to deep condition every week (wash days) to keep moisture in my hair. Also, my scalp is prone to build up so washing every week with a clarifying shampoo has been working so far. It's easier to do this with shorter hair. Your hair is gorgeous! New subscriber!

Happy 44: I seen this video months ago and it was the best video til this day! I literally thought I was an alien lol. I honestly had to pay attention to my hair and now it is flourishing! I keep it oiled, moisturized and braided or twisted. Just came back to say thank you.

August Virgo: My hairdresser was the first person who told me to leave my hair alone. She would install flat twist or two strand and pin my hair up. Overtime I began to lose the desire to touch and pull on my hair and that has helped with retention.

Michelle: I use Black Castor oil and just stuck to what makes your hair grow. Protective styles really do work just leave it alone. Coconut oil has not worked for my hair but made it dry out more.

Keisha Thompson: I’m a once a week person and it is a job. Unfortunately my scalp itches and flakes so I can’t go longer than a week. I just put on a good Netflix movie and get to work lol. Love your commentary and I’m enjoying you doing your hair, you just taught me a new way to twist my hair.

Celene B: Girl I love your content. I pretty much almost always agree with everything you say. I agree with leaving your hair aloneeeee! That’s really the ultimate key.

Lola Simor: I really appreciated this video. You are honest, frank and you are definetely a "live and let live " person . Not just seeking reviews.

RJ Dean: Yeah I just now started wearing wigs a year ago at the start of quarantine. I maintained a routine of washing, moisturizing, braiding it up, and then throwing on a wig for a few weeks until my next wash day and my hair has gone from a little past shoulder length to midback. I definitely think it is due to leaving it moisturized and leaving it alone! Wigs have been super convenient and fun for changing up my look but I can't wait to rock my natural hair again with these new inches :D Your hair looks gorgeous btw!

Ebony Wilkes: I wash my hair every 2 weeks. I used to do it weekly, but it already my wash days take me 6 hrs as is. Doing it weekly makes me feel like I basically live in the shower . Good thing my wash and go’s last that long ☺️

mscammiek: I completely agree with basically just leaving your hair alone (naturals) but not neglecting it at the same time as you've said. I've read so many articles and talked to a few haircare specialists as well as black doctors on the topic. Water is a hydrator, not a moisturizer. People feel a way when they try using just water.. it's because water is meant to hydrate but it will not sustain (last forever); Can apply the same to our bodies getting thirsty and needing hydration aka water. Personally, whatever gets the job done for each individual is good enough. For example, there are many MANY ways to lose weight (different diets, different exercises, techniques like I.F.) good lord, it's a lot! At the end of the day, if it gets you to the same end result and you're being healthy about your decisions, then you're doing just fine!

Teri B: I agree....from the beginning of this pandemic I have done very low maintenance to my hair by not bothering or manipulating it too much, just washing, moisturizing, plaiting then twisting and leaving alone unless I need to take it down and my hair has grown several inches in this year and a half. Went to the hair salon today for a trim I haven't received since early 2020 and it is again past my shoulders. Being gentle to your hair is key

The Black Spiritual Baddie: This just goes to show “different strokes for different folks” ✨✨ just do your research and try stuff out ‍♀️ I have high porosity and just moisturizing with water don’t work either

Grace PJS: Finally, someone being real on hair growth.......thank you!

The Uptown Body: She said “who? Who? WHO is washing their hair every week?!” idk why that cracked me up I’m high porosity & get build up easily so I’m one of the weekly washers. But my hair is still really short & that’ll probably change once i get more length. I totally agree with your other points

Akima Benn: Girl ever since I started watching ur videos, i didn't try to mimic everything completely but I followed the basics like finger detangling and washed it once a month and left it in braids and it never grew as fast as is it does now. I started in January this year. Last year I was desperately trying everything and it was so frustrating. It also takes alot of mental awareness and acceptance of the hair you have. You really hv to take the time to love and appreciate ur hair and don't look at other ppl especially Ppl with a different hair texture. Also knowing ur hair porosity is helpful. Water dries my hair out too bcs its high porosity so I stopped using it to moisturize.

Chazelle Vania: Girl, I love seeing you do your hair. They’re my fav videos of yours! Thx for the content hun!xxx

Bertha: I completely agree... my hair didn’t really start growing until I stop bothering it. If you pay attention to the people who have long hair , they usually do Mimi twist, braids, wigs...

Cecilia Parker: Thank you so much for your time and sharing! You are right! It takes Time! Keep doing what you do!

Lynette Turner: Now that I’m wearing my hair out I will be washing my hair once a week. I have fine hair besides I work out like six days a week so I don’t want the salt from the sweat to break my hair out. Love your videos.

Bryanna Dawson: Your video on why you're never moisturizing your hair with water again has helped me recently. I used to moisturize my hair with water, leave-in conditioner then grease. However, I've started to notice that in the last 1 or 2 months my hair feels drier than usual which concerned me a little bit. Not too long ago I watched one of your videos and something clicked in my head as to why I was having this problem in my hair. I had to wash my hair again but afterwards I dried my hair until it was nearly dry then used leave-in conditioner and water. The next day my hair still felt moisturized and not dry :"). So thank you for helping me and your subscribers with our hair and continue the good work :>.

Mimi Gang: I started transitioning from permed to natural hair in January of this year. I’ve been putting my box braids in ever since and I would leave them in for 2 weeks and take them out. Then I would wash my hair and moisturize it after and I would just let my hair breathe for 2-3 days or a week and then I would put my box braids back in. When I looked at my hair in June, babyyyy , I was so happy because of how much my hair grew. I still have till the end of this year or the beginning of next year to see what my hair will really look like. I’m super excited, but the journey will not be over after that cause I want my hair to be down my back like it was when I was a little girl. Nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it. Also, I used Biotin Shampoo and Conditioner when I would wash my hair and I think that’s what did it because biotin is for hair growth.

NaturallyDOPE0990: Honestly I believe there is no set time, even for one person. I wash every 4 weeks in the winter. Once a week if I’m working out consistently. But regularly I did it every 2 weeks. The most important thing is to listen to your hair and scalp.

Dazzled Doll: This made me realize I need to start implementing protective styles because I do the once per week but it can def get tiring

THE GREAT AWAKENING: That is so true. Leave your hair alone and watch it flourish. I found that out a few years ago when I was relaxed and now it's even better natural.

Barbara Peller: I agree with you, it takes entirely too long for me to be shampooing my hair every week. My shampoo day is actually a two-day routine, one day to fully finger detangle then the next day I shampoo, deep conditioning then retwist it, a five to six-hour job. I shampoo my hair once a month but because I do use hair grease sometimes my scalp itch a lot and I will shampoo it but I do not take it out of its protective style. I shampoo it in the twists, I only take my hair out of the protective style once a month, this routine has worked well for me, my hair is bra strap length, mid-back. P.S. but I still can't get my edges to grow no matter what I do, I'm on a lot of medications, so I pulled them all out and read the side effects and two of them causes hair loss and thinning, now I know why, I don't fret over it.

Eli Dailey: I’m also an advocate that you have to do what works best for you! Even if that means figuring it out a while or if that means what works for you changes overtime!

1GoldenBreeze: Patience and finding what works for your hair are key. For me, I shampoo, condition, and style in a wash and go weekly. It takes about 1 1/2 hr from start to finish and my hair is happy and healthy. While I don't see anything wrong with all the steps that others take, it's not what works for my hair.

Amy C.: That's really how my hair has always grown- low maintenance. My mom washed my sister & my hair once or twice a month, used pink hair food on our scalp. & hot pressed it. She would occasionally do braids/beads but only when she had time as my hair was the thickest!

Refiners fire: Thank you, I mean my hair thrived on hair grease and braids as a kid and I had no issues (thanks mom) do what works for you, beware of trends. Much love sisnew sub

liv nicole: Interesting. I have been trying your method where you don’t wash your hair for three months, moisturize keep it in protective style and experienced the most growth. My scalp does get itchy but I use green beauty method of scratch and preen to mitigate the build of sebum on my scalp and bring it down to my hair shaft and do constant massages on my scalp. I personally never use any oils on my scalp as well just some water/aloe Vera to loosen the sebum to bring it further down. It’s been working for me!

brittney lewis: I just want to say ty for this video. I've been trying to grow my hair past shoulder length for 2 years now and every time it gets longer I have to cut my ends. My hair was super damaged. Now I know what works with my hair and now I have to have patience.

V S: Nice to hear someone being real! Thank you! Also, especially since Covid, girl u do U. U look comfortable, as we all do at home. Thx much for the tips❣️

Deborah Rigby: Amen and Amen‍♀️The less you manipulate our hair the more it grows❣️you gotta take care of the basics but the rule of thumb is just what you’ve stated in your vid. Thank you sooo much for sharing❤️

Krissy Fizzle: I wash my hair once a week my scalp gets very itchy though if I don't + I go to the gym so my scalp sweats and it's needed. I enjoy the feeling of my hair being clean though

Donna Seymour Stapleton: Thats what i do! I had long hair until i was like 19 or 20 going nuts like i do & started chopping it. It was decently long in 2016. Had my daughter bleached it blonded it cut it. & Just keeps repeating that cycle & i crave the length! So i def watch videos & just wanna get my hair longer.

RichRootz: You are RIGHT! I've had locs for over 20 years, and lo manipulation has always worked for me.✌

Makayla Potts: I would absolutely love to see a video of how you do your 2 strand twists!! They stay up so nicely

B Star: I have 4C hair texture, and I could never get my hair to grow further than just two inches past my shoulders. Then, I started moisturizing my hair twice a day with a mixture of water and oils, and VOILA, my hair retained length, and grew longer than it ever had. I learned that I was not moisturizing my hair enough. So yes, what works for one person may not work for another, but that water/oil combo sure did work for me.

Marquita Freeman: My husband and I both wash once a week. It's hot down here in the south so our scalps get sweaty and itchy fast. I started washing, blow drying, greasing then twisting my hair. It's definitely working for me.

Bertha Tryals: The key thing is to keep your hair clean, moisturized and in a protective style. Most importantly, leave it alone until it's time to do it again and wrap it up at night.

Veronica Peters: Honestly what works for me is all natural products (oils, teas, butters, natural gels, etc.). I stopped using grease because it is too thick and it just sits on my scalp. But what has really worked for moisture is not shampooing anymore. I tried every shampoo to avoid dryness and even after deep Conditioning my hair would not stay moist. So I do a water rinse and use acv weekly with braids in under my wig and ONCE every 2 months I take down my braids and use bentonite and GIRLLLLL my fine 4c hair cooperates. I spray my hair with hibiscus tea and fenugreek mornings and evenings and sus....my hair is the healthiest I've ever seen it. But that works for me!
