I could never grow my hair through the ways that other people have been growing their hair, so like other favorite youtubers that have really long hair. Their advice is really good and obviously is working really well for them, but none of those things ever worked for me. Hey guys it's shane o'keemie and welcome back to my channel today we have another exciting video. I feel like. I say that about all of my videos but they're all exciting, but today's video is extra, exciting i'll, be doing a compilation of everything that i've ever mentioned. As straightforward as possible about how i was able to get my hair really long, so if you have a friend or if you personally just need advice be like okay, this is the one video where i can get all my advice from. So, let's just start from the beginning, to put it as simply as possible. Whenever someone asked me, i was able to grow my hair. It has been through protective sun. Not touching your hair is the best way to prevent breakage. You can buy all these products. That say that they prevent breakage, make your hair stronger, there's no way for your hair to break. If you just don't touch it, there's no way for your hair to break. If you just don't touch it, so it literally beats anything else. You can do literally because i've tried all those other things and they never worked. Whenever i put my hair up and away that is when i saw the most growth, even whenever i was doing low manipulation styles previously like if i was doing a ponytail and just not wearing my hair down and doing stuff to it every day. Even that wasn't enough for me to grow my hair long. I did that for like a year, i was just doing low manipulation style, like bonds ponytails, not doing much to my hair. That didn't really get me that far my hair stayed at the same length. So the way i've grown, my hair is through protective styles that allow my hair to be completely awake throughout that time that my hair is completely awake. I can retain all the length that i'm growing as long as the protective style itself isn't causing breakage, which is the main reason why people aren't seeing growth and protective cells, because a lot of the times, the protective style itself is causing people more breakage, because one, The big reason is: your protective cells are too tight if you're constantly getting braids not being able to sleep at night having to do all these types of things. Take painkillers, that's not a protective style. The tension that you're using to pull on your hair is ripping out your edges, pulling out your hair literally and in the long run it can cause long-term traction alopecia, which is actual hair loss once those follicles keep on being removed after a while, they stop growing Back and then the second biggest reason why people are seeing growth from protective styles is because they're not taking it down properly. You'Ve had all this time where you have been able to do essentially nothing to take care of your hair. While you have the protective cell in so once it's time to take it down, be willing to spend hours even days to take down your hair properly, so that everything that you're waiting for to see growth in can actually be revealed and then quickly other reasons. Maybe you just have really fine hair and your hair can't take a lot of weight or do certain protective styles so think about similar protective styles that you can do some that don't require added hair. Another reason is: make sure that you're always switching up your style. Don'T always put the same manipulation in the same areas like wigs, for example, you're always going to be rubbing against your edges, even if you aren't gluing it down, which you shouldn't be doing. If you're trying to make it a protective style, you need a break from rubbing against your edges. So then you can switch to doing box braids and then after box braids, you may need a break from those individual partings. So then you can switch to another protective cell, so just constantly be switching up your protective style. So now, once i have covered the fact that protective song is the way that i have grown, my hair questions will come up wondering okay. So how do you take care of your hair and protect the cells outside of protective cells? How long do you do protective cells? Let me know everything. I leave my protective cells in for two to three months: okay, and also for the past. Like almost a year now for a while now, i haven't been as crazy into my hair growth journey and i've been kind of just having fun. With my long hair, like wearing my hair out more changing up my protective styles, more, not really focusing on growing my hair. So in this video i'll talk about exactly what i did when i was super super focused on growing my hair and when i saw the most gross whenever i was in that period. What i did with my protective styles is i let them in for two to three months and then i would wait for a week, sometimes not even a week, sometimes a few days literally just. However, i was feeling sometimes two weeks and then i put back in a protective stuff so anywhere between two days and two weeks, and so in my protective styles. What did i do to take care of my hair? Not much so there would be times where i'd be crazy about like applying castor oil, oiling it every day, massaging in the oil and then there'd be other times where i would literally just do nothing neglect my hair, not on purpose - and i have a video on This and i saw the same amount of growth as i would whenever i was putting in all that oils and stuff now, am i saying that you shouldn't? No, if you that's something you that you do continue doing it think about, is in this projective style. Are there opportunities for manipulation in the form of friction to arise? That'S why people say that castor oil is really good for your edges. It doesn't actually make your hair grow. Any faster extra oil is such a thick oil that, whenever you put it on your edges, it gives such good lubrication and especially, if you're doing it at night. You'Re not gon na see as much rubbing and as much friction, which leads to less breaking, allowing you to retain length and grow longer here, and i have a video out on how i take care of my hair and protective styles. But to put it as simply as possible in this video, i really don't do much in my protective styles. I essentially just leave it alone and then apply any oil like every now and then all over and on the more vulnerable areas as well in terms of washing my hair, i don't really wash my hair that often i don't sweat or work out or do anything So i don't have a need to wash my hair that often a lot of the times. I don't wash my protective styles at all. Sometimes i do, but if you live a more active, more sweaty lifestyle, i guess you can wash your hair in your protective style and then whenever it comes time to take it down a week or a few days before i try and oil up my braids. However best i can make it softer the first time i did this. I realized how much softer my hair felt whenever i took it down and whenever your hair is softer and less hard and you're manipulating it. It makes it so much more likely that you won't see as much breakage so i'll do that and so one time taking it down what i do. What is my like regimen, i really don't do much still so sometimes i'll flat iron. It maybe like four times a year, sometimes i'll blow dry, it sometimes i'll. Just air dry it whatever. I feel like to style my hair. Most of the time i just air dry, my hair and my relaxed hair isn't bone straight, but what i do to get like the straighter look, even when i don't blow dry it or straighten it, is i wrap my hair at night, and this is how i Wrap my hair, this isn't my real hair. This is a weave, but it's the same process that i use to wrap my hair at night and over time my hair gets less and less poofy after three days. It looks pretty straight like i straightened it just from wrapping it at night, the products that i use to wash my hair and condition. All of that i don't have any favorites. I don't believe in products being the reason why people will have long hair. So when people ask oh what products do you use to grow your hair? I always find that hard to like get the message across a lot of people think that the way you grow long hair is by using expensive products and doing this and that it's not like, i literally use the cheapest the cheapest product. But whenever i'm taking down my hair, i always use a clarifying shampoo. I use like a cheap three dollar one from a swab whenever i'm using a clarifying shampoo, i use are clarifying shampoo whenever my hair is really really dirty. So that can be. If i want to wash my hair in a protective style, i'll use the clarifying shampoo when i take it down protective style, i use a clarifying shampoo and that's really the only times i'll use a clarifying shampoo because they are pretty stripping of your hair. But sometimes you need your hair to be stripped in order to get back to being clean. Otherwise, if i just have had my hair out for like two weeks or something i will just use any shampoo that i have shea moisture, i think i have my bathroom right now. Any shampoo, any conditioner or s is another combination that i use a lot and whenever i leave my hair out, i really don't wash it that often like. I would never wash it more than once in a two week time period. Sometimes i can go longer depending on how my hair is looking and whenever i have it out also in terms of like moisturizing it. All of that i just applied that for us leaving conditioner, maybe once every three days, not something that i naturally do. Every single day, because i don't see the need to if you're someone that feels like your hair just always feels dry or something you can put it in every day. But for me, especially when i have my hair out, i feel like it weighs down my hair. Whenever i'm putting a lot of product in it every day, i don't heavily apply it every single day. The condition leaving conditioner that i applied from yesterday will still be in my hair the next day. You know and then another question that i get asked is okay. So how often do you relax your hair, then? How long do you weigh in between? So if i have in a protective stop for like two months, then i'll keep it in for those two months and then, when i'm ready to take it down, i wouldn't relax my hair after that two months, i'll leave my hair down for as long as i Felt like it and then i'll put in another protective style. Sometimes i can do two three months protective styles and then relax my hair after that. Sometimes i can do a two-month protective style and a three-month protective style, or a two-month protective style and a two-month protective cell and relax my hair after that. So that would be after four months or five months. Sometimes i could just do a three-month protective style and relax my hair after that. So that's why i always tell people that i usually relax my hair every three to six months and that's where my protective styles fall in between that no like set amount of time. I really just go with the flow, but doing protective styles really makes it easy for you to stretch your relaxers, because before you know it's already six months and you haven't had to deal with having a lot of trouble with taking care of your hair because of New growth, so that's what makes it really easy for me to take care of my hair whenever i have a lot of new growth, i do long protective styles back to back um, to where i don't. I essentially just never have to deal with my new growth and in terms of how long do i wait after i take down the protective style before i relax my hair personally, for me, i can do it the next day. For me, it does more harm than any possible good that it could do so. I just prefer to just relax my hair straight out. Then after i relax my hair, i don't usually put in a protective style, and straight after i just relax my hair. It'S the straightest, it's been in a while, so i want to wear it out for a little bit. Sometimes i will put in a protective style like right after, like one or two days after, if say, i've just come home for spring break or something - and i didn't have time to wait like a week before putting in a protective style to go back to school. So sometimes, if i was in a rush, i would put it in like a day or two afterwards, but most of the time i leave my hair out for like at least a week after i relax it just because i want to wear my hair out. That'S what i do in terms of like when do i relax my hair, then another question i get asked is about trimming. I am someone who is really really bad? Well, i don't know if it's a bad thing, but for other people it can be perceived as a bad thing, something i'm very open about, but i am not the type of person that trims my hair, often the advice i give for when someone says how often Do you trim your hair? How often should you trim your hair? I say: trim your hair when you can physically see that your ends. Look bad, don't trim your hair because it's been four months and someone told you that you need to trim your hair every four months. But your ends look perfectly fine, but someone just told you that it's going to trim your hair every four months trim your hair. When it makes sense for you to trim your hair, your hair only grows so much don't go by someone else's timeline. If you're constantly leaving your hair out flat ironing it your ends are going to get bad a lot sooner, if you're doing protective styling and aren't really doing much, your ends won't get as badly as quickly. My ends would get pretty bad before i trimmed them, but for me, if my ends started to look a little bit bad, but i knew i was just gon na put it in a protective style right after then i could put in the protective style then after I took that putting style down and i knew i was gon na get a fresh relaxer wear my hair out for a little bit. That would be the time when i would trim it, so i would literally just trim it when i knew i'd be wearing it out for a while as well, because i have relaxed here. I don't have the problem of. I know for people with natural hair whenever their ends become split. It leads to a little bit more tangles and that tangling can cause more breakage. So if you have natural hair, you may need to trim your ends a little bit more often so that you can avoid that tingling at the ends, but for relaxed hair for me with relaxed hair. I don't really run into that issue and i've never had any problems with retaining length while not trying my hair super super often and then also what relaxer did i use the just for me, kiss relaxer and regular. All relaxers are pretty much the same. You just want to make sure that you're using the right type of relaxer, in whichever brand that you use. So if you have really fine hair, you shouldn't be using extra strength, i'm using regular kids relaxer. So it's a little bit less regular than normal adult relaxer. But just you, whichever brand, that you feel most comfortable with maybe the brand that you're already used to and make sure that you're applying the relaxer properly, because that's a big thing like people don't realize that their hair is so over processed. And that's the reason why they're not seeing growth, you can take everything that i'm saying in this video, but if you've had relaxed hair, that's been over processed, it's gon na break a lot more easily than hair that haven't been over processed. So things like that, you may not even realize i would recommend watching my do's and don'ts about how to properly relax your hair. Another thing that i didn't mention in this video is protein treatments, constantly deep conditioning your hair. All of that, whenever i've just taken my hair out from a protective style, sometimes i do deep condition and by deep condition that just means leave my conditioner in for longer before i wash it out sometimes sit under a hooded dryer using my same conditioner. I don't do protein treatments. I used to do all those things before protein treatments, hot oil treatments. Everything that you can think of. I had a very strict regimen, where i was doing a lot of these things. That people tell you to do nothing, nothing. They didn't put any heat, didn't do anything. My hair grew not a single inch, nothing if you're doing those things and you aren't seeing anything happening if your hair is just stained even though you're following everyone's videos, i was there too. That was literally me not even that long ago, which is why it makes me really happy to be able to make these videos, because i feel like i don't like i hate to bring up jeans. But i personally think, if anything, i don't have good jeans, because i could never grow my hair through the ways that other people have been growing their hair, so like other favorite youtubers that have really long hair, their advice is really good and obviously is working really. Well for them, but none of those things ever worked for me. I could not grow my hair, leaving it out just doing protein treatments deep conditioners. Doing all that stuff like that stuff is really good. Information and they're really really knowledgeable, but none of it worked for me. The only thing that ever worked for me was just leaving my hair, the heck alone just leave your hair, the heck alone, and once you do that, come back in three months. Dm me. Let me know how it goes. I promise you as long as the protective style isn't like tight and, like you, take it down properly and everything your hair will retain like those are my two cents trying to leave nothing out from my own experience. You can make what you want from it. It'S just me being honest as someone that struggled to grow my hair. These are the things that work really hope. My videos can really help you and give you the advice that i wish i had whenever i was younger and then maybe this can be you in three years making your own youtube video about how you were able to grow your hair, but yeah. I really enjoyed making this video for you guys. My advice is helpful to you subscribe um. You can also find me on instagram. I share everything on instagram all the styles that i'm doing updates on everything that you would ever need to know. Um about my hair and everything and my life as a nigerian-american girl and yeah, so yeah, that's all i have to say for this video. Thank you guys so much for watching and i'll see in the next one.

Seun Okimi: Thank you guys so much for watching! Please leave any requests here for specific topics you would like me to make a video on that I haven't covered already!

PerfectTutorials: This is literally what I’m doing to grow my hair and it’s really growing

Renee 80sBaby: I'm trying to grow my hair, and I've been trying to do it by "going natural" but I honestly feel like I have less breakage with relaxed hair, so I'm glad you show us that you can grow relaxed hair if done properly!

Insurgent Fabulosity: 2021, is going to be a year of growth, starting with my hair!

ClassicBeauty: I’m so here for the no emphasis on products. Black people waste so much on products to assist with growth, and it’s just not true. All we need is - a good shampoo, deep moisture treatment, protein treatment, a leave-in conditioner, oil and a heat protector, the end. I say, focus on maintaining healthy hair and protective styles; and keep your fingers out your hair, our hair is so fragile.

Sharrisa Gobin: Started protective styling the start of this year and my hair has grown 4 inches I'm so proud of my growth in one year because before this my hair has always been the same length my whole life

Lami S: YouTube videos/guru’s has caused my hair to be at the shortest it has ever been!!! I don’t know if it’s the Nigerian genes, but literally leaving hair alone in braids, sticking to simple products like the Ors range and not getting bogged down by all the treatments in the world is defs the answer for me too!! My hair was the longest in high school when I was by default protective styling back to back.. Thanks Seun, you speak no lie here!!

Joel Monique: This my exact regimen and my hair is at waist length. Protective styling is the best way to retain the length that biology naturally provides. As long as the style isn't done in such a way that would inevitably cause breakage (like tight or bulky styles), or leaves some parts of your hair exposed, you will retain length. But above all, DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. If you retain length even if you flat iron and comb your hair every single day, keep doing it lol (that would never work for me, but do you sis! Lol)

Sebo M: I have fully natural hair and your tips on length retention and doing protective styling on my own helped me so much, I reached shoulder length hair after being stuck with damaged hair for years. Thank you Seun❤️ love your content and your hair!!

Kim Myers: I totally agree with you on leaving the hair alone to allow it to grow. I’ve noticed tremendous growth in my daughter’s hair since March of this year. Although this wasn’t done on purpose, I’ve only been able to wash and redo my daughter’s hair every 4-6 week because of my new super busy work schedule. She’s 9 now and it took me 6 years to find a growth method that works ( figured it out on accident ). I used to wash and redo her hair every 1-2 weeks and her hair just wasn’t growing much....but now...omg! I schedule a professional trim once a year and I keep protective styles in until I have time to wash and redo it. I now believe that the less you comb and pull your hair the more it will grow. Her hair is now 16 inches long and 100% natural.

CJE: I'm about to texturise my hair and follow this EXACT routine to grow my hair. The EXACT routine. I've been watching Seun for years and I have finally got the balls to do what I want. I loved being natural but I went natural because of social media pressure but i felt like my hair grew more and was more manageable and longer even when it was relaxed/texturised. I can't wait, this video came at perfect timing. P.S. I KNOW texturiser is basically a weak relaxer and theres nothing different .. so i'm basically relaxing my hair lol

Khadijih Gore: I just combed out my locs, and this was kind of what I envisioned for the next chapter in my hair journey. I've been killing it with protective styling so can wait to see more growth

Philly Po: The main thing for me was no heat! When I first started relaxing my hair I would straighten it all the time because it was laid and looked so good. Little did I know I was burning/breaking my hair off. My hair thinned out badly. So I stopped the heat and even continued relaxing for a couple years now and my hair has gotten thick again. Relaxer isn’t damaging to the hair and it doesn’t stop growth. It’s really how you take care of it (treatments/deep conditioning/protective styling/etc.)

Alexandria Martin: I cut my hair at the beginning of quarantine back in like April, I've being doing mini twists and other protective styles ever since and there's been so much growth so far! I plan on protective styling throughout 2021, I'm hoping I'll finally see the length retention I've been trying to accomplish. Also taking down your protective styles properly is sooo important. I used to do box braids all the time but I would take them down while my hair was completely dry and brittle, no moisture, no oil or anything at all. I could've retained so much more length back then if I knew what I know now.

Shirlz: Thank you very much for your updated round up video! I took my sew in out about a week ago, relaxed it as I was 12 weeks post. The weave sure did help me to stretch to 12 weeks and helped with retention so many thanks to you Seun! Think I’ll pop one back in to help me stretch again at 6 to 8 weeks post. Xoxo

Fiona Rose: You’ve been the most realistic black female I’ve watched when it comes to 4 type hair and as someone who has 4c hair I really appreciate it❤️ you’ve made me realise that spending money on all these products won’t help compared to protective styles.

Sheila Bee: You telling me to take my time when taking down my protective styles was GAME CHANGER. Finally for the first time ever, even during post partum shedding, I was seeing growth after every takedown

Chanel’s Corner: Just started following today! 2020 I am growing MY hair out using protective styles and moisturizing and deep conditioning and less manipulation for 12 months! I can’t wait! Thank you for the motivation

Jennifer B.: Seun, I absolutely love you. I love how you applied your tips to both relaxes hair and natural hair, and I love how humble and supportive you are! Thank you for the tips <3 May God continue to bless you tremendously

Monique M: Love this video! Basically, put your hair up leave it alone! I can do this! I just started my journey to grown my hair back healthy and long. This video just made me more optimistic. Thank you Sean!

Paula Bulluck: You are so right about leaving your hair alone-whether it’s relaxed or natural! I’m attempting to transition now but I’ve always had long hair with my relaxers. It was because I stretched my relaxers and I always wore my hair tucked away in some variation of a bun or a ponytail just so I was not combing, straightening, curling, etc through my hair all day every day. That is how I retained my length. Love your videos!

P Nicole: Yes!!! So true I’ve done Everything to grow my hair even braiding it. Last couple of years I’ve been wearing it in a ponytail under my wigs never manipulating adding heat or touching my hair. My hair grew to the middle of my back. I just did the big job two months ago and I’m going to start over. Leaving your hair alone is the best way to make your hair grow.

char: thank you for this! i have been trying to grow my hair long ever since i was 11 and nothing every worked for me. i’ve tried everything everyone has said and to no avail. i think it really is just based on genes but i think the difference between me and you is that you’re hair has always been long (even if it never grew from the things you’ve tried) and my hair has always been short and thin, so even if you have been in my shoes, you really haven’t because we’ve never experienced the same things.. but aside from that i appreciate this video telling me that i just need to leave my hair alone.

Millie N: My hair is finally healthy and growing well thanks to your tips. Keep blessing us sis❤️

RoseUmz i.: 4:55 - 5:09 makes so much sense, I had a protective style in for 6 weeks, I didn't even moisturize my hair once! I was working on projects and preparing for exams and didn't have time to take care of my hair. When it was time to take my protective style down I was so worried that I was going to end up with a lot of breakage but that was not the case. My hair actually grew longer! I was shocked. I will not invest too much on hair products and just keep things simple. I just want long healthy hair without doing too much...haha

daisy44: I can attest to this! I decided to do a protective style because of your prior video and I had my braids in about 3 months and boy did my hair grow I’d say don’t put heat on your hair, moisturize regularly and little to no manipulation and you’ll be golden.

Tracey Dumase Banda: Mini braids have been my primary protective style for over a year now. My goal was armpit length and I exceeded it. I keep my braids in for 2-3 months at a time too. I'm still able to deep condition and moisturize as frequently as I need to. Protective styling when done the right way will really really grow your hair out like weeds. I'm an advocate of longterm protective styling for sure

Kelli Johnson: I noticed a significant hair growth in my relaxed hair when I stopped messing with it too . It’s not what I started doing, it is what I stopped.

COLLEEN KAMAU: I am 12 years old and my hair has been shoulder-length my whole life I just started watching her channel and I just started to do protecting styles. I have been going out in buns all the time. If she can do it so can you. (unless you have a medical issue)

Natasha Okisa: You're a game changer I tried leaving my hair in protective style for 2 months and saw alot of grow from now on I'll be going that more often

Daleana aa: Seun my nigerian sista. You have helped me oooooooo tremendously with my hair growth regimen. I just want to say thank you. Your videos helped me so much for a year now I’ve been protective styling intensely and I have seen TREMENDOUS GROWTH! As someone that has 4c hair that I wear blown out and slightly pressed I’ve seen it actually grow but your growth regimen is for us TYPE 4 girls I live by it. It’s called LEAVE YOUR HAIR ALONE! Real simple!

Simply_JodiAnn: Hey Seun, phenomenal video as always❤️! You make me want to relax my hair because your hair is beautiful and you don’t have to worry about knots! Honestly, I don’t understand why some people think they have to cut their hair every 3 months without accessing their ends! That is so silly !

daanceduh: I did protective styles all 2020 and my hair grew so long but I had to end up cutting inches off because I started off with so many split ends I didn’t trim in the beginning. Make sure you all address that if needed bc now I have to start all over. Staying positive!

Sharon: Thank you Sean for sharing your experience. I had planned to start putting my hair away, so this video is very timely.

Jean Bastien: “There’s no way your hair can break if you just don’t touch it.” **puts hair back in bun :(

Makda Haile: I litteraly subscribed and binge-watched your channel yesterday bc I relaxed my hair last week, and now I see this video on my timeline. Perfect!

Agwuh onyinyechi: thanks to you Okimi, I have been able to pass my previous length just by waiting 8months before relaxing but it was the protective styling I did within those 8month that retained my previous length and made my natural hair grow longer...now my hair is 4months post relaxer and the way I understand my hair is that, it can stay for more than 8months except for the tangling though and still be okay.

IFEDOLAPO KOLAPO: Not stressing your hair is actually really key ✔️ My hair ain’t no long stuff though Causeee I’m doing one thing right and ninety nine other things WRONG. But that one thing is still a lot.

Keonda Cook: This and stretching my relaxers out to about 2 inches of new growth got me to bra strap length on accident/without even trying. Now my goal is to self relax and learn to braid so EVERYTHING is in my control thus hoping to get to waist length. I do use a protein conditioner/harder protein treatments in-between protective styling but only because my mom (cosmetologist) relaxes my hair bone straight (which I hope to stop doing when I begin to do my own relaxers) just because I think its why my hair requires so much protein and sheds so much. Seun's videos have helped me with my take down process and so much and I am honestly sad to see she is natural but I excited to see how well she does with easy, simple hair care for naturals. I went natural but relaxed because my life revolved around my hair and I just did not have the patience when I saw nothing but loose textures having the time of their lives and very few 4c YouTubers at the time.

Ihuoma Otika: I don't know if you will see this but I have to thank you for all the advice I have gotten from you which have worked. I also always thought myself to be unlucky in the genes aspect of hair growth but I noticed that my hair grew a lot when I left it be; note; I cut my hair for 6 years which I always thought a bad thing till I discovered it saved me from having terribly over processed hair like my mom and afterwards, I had to do a stressful programme which made me have little time for my hair, so it was usually in a protective style, it grew a lot but when I came home in quarantine, I was tempted to do all these strict regimens after looking at YouTube videos and was quite disappointed. Anyways, what all this long story is about is that, all the tips I have gotten from you have really worked not to talk of the inspiration I get seeing your hair this long so thank you❤

Joy K: Leaving my hair alone in protective styles is working for me. It's grown so much these past 12 months.

Zingisa Mayekiso: Thank you so much for the insight sis, this really was so relevant and informative ❤

stunna4hubert: Nawl cuz u rly helped me ! I always wondered why my hair just never grew as fast at i wanted. But as soon as i started twists (protective style obviously) I started seeing NOTICABLE growth. Im a male and im currently eyebrow length hair after growing it out for a small bit. Im currently in a protective style and apply jbco every weekend. Ik seeing WAYY less breakage and wayy more healthier hair and its all because of you ❤

Shaniyaaa: Finally somebody with something simple!! I'm West Indian (Caribbean) and I do think that the variety of natural hair products is great however i always found myself back to the basics when it comes to growing my hair. When i was younger in primary school (grades k -6), my hair care regimen was greasing and oiling my scalp and hair also adding a leave in, then my mom or cousin would cornrow or plait my hair for the next 2 weeks. Only difference is that i change the shampoo & conditioner that I used and the method in which i untangle my hair. Last weekend I realised that my hair is actually down my back. All i did was put it in a protective style( mainly small plaits) and leave them in for 2 weeks to a month simply because i have a sweaty scalp. I also use aloe vera & oil when taking down protective styles, it giving more of a slip when detangling. MORAL OF THE STORY: LEAVE YOUR HAIR ALONE AND WATCH HOW YOU HANDLE IT!

nitasharocks6: Growing up I did a lot of protective styles on my relaxed hair. But now I am finding that my scalp is really tender, and sensitive a lot of the time, so styling is often more painful then usual. I've been avoiding protectives styles for while because of this. And due to this and other health reasons my hair has shed and fallen out a lot. Have you ever experienced anything similar to this, if so do you have any advice on what could help this? And do you possible know other protective styles that cause less tension to the scalp? I want to see a doctor about this but covid makes it hard to at the moment

Kia Patrece: Thanks for posting this, you just saved me tons of money on products and supplies I was about to buy. What you're saying makes lots of sense. I'm going to "leave it the heck alone" as you say :) and see what happens. I like your raw and straight forward style of presenting. No need for super fancy lighting and editing, just the honest facts. Fancy videos are great but the information presented clearly in a no frills way is just as effective. Keep up the great work!

India G: Thank you for putting it out there that you can have healthy relaxed hair. I was natural for years and my hair kept breaking. My relaxed hair is way more healthier

Francisca O'Hara: Thanks, I noticed that too. All my friends, after Boarding school, where we cut our hair, have started braiding but because I didn't grow out my hair in the last semester, my hair isn't grown enough to braid and unfortunately, I've been combining it almost every minute and it's been breaking.

christine mwakisha: I absolutely agree with you. Leaving your hair alone and putting it in protective styles works. I've experienced most growth when doing that.

Aniexo: I don’t switch my protective styles, I always do box braids, I take them down allow 2-3 weeks then put them back in the growth has been amazing

BP: Thank you so much for your honesty!!! I'm beginning to see results in my hair because of your channel. God bless you. You are going to go far because of your integrity.

Shamona: I spent all of 2019 wearing protective styles because I was tired and frustrated with my 4c natural hair "journey". By Spring of 2020 my eternally shoulder length hair had grown to mid back. After years of watching "hair journey" videos, trying condintioners, oils, serums, supplements, pre-poo, no-poo, co-wash, apple cider vinegar, hair steaming, protein treatments... all to get my hair to grow. I discovered that the best thing to do was nothing, don't touch it and it will grow. Unfortunately, with the pandemic I haven't been consistent with protective styling and my hair has started to break off again :(

msCamLagata: I realize all these things we do don’t matter. The main thing is to do everything to keep your hair from breaking. Breakage is the enemy.

Faith Ukwuomah: I've been going my hair since around January this year (or earlier). Because my hair is a 4a and 4b combination, I use chebe powder at least a few days to a week before washday (this stopped my hair from breaking and has added thickness and length to my hair), and use aloe vera leaf. Moreover, I had to make my oil mix. But when making my protective style, I leave it in for a few days to a week, and had to continually moisturize my hair because of my hair type. Please, do you know what protective styles I can use to effectively speed up my hair growth?

Kafene Lily: Seun okimi I love u ,u are my inspiration. I'm a Nigerian girl too.,when I first saw ur videos,I was amazed that a fellow relaxed Nigerian girl could grow her hair.I follow ur process and I'm seeing growth. My hair went from 9inch in some places to 13,14 inch ,the long parts from 11,12inch to 14,15 1/2 inch And its Fuller and stronger now All this from march to December That's just 8months out of my two year challenge Thank u seun okimi

Theckla Silvera: I actually accidentally found this out in the pandemic. I have been wearing braids and wigs and when I relaxed my hair it was awesom and grew so much. Thank u for this. I totally agree with you. I will continue. Live your hair.

Katt Touche: Wow! Awesome video and information! I know it’s “just hair” to some, but I felt confirmation on my hair journey and the spirit of authenticity from you! Keep sharing your message! Thank you

Shungu Mariti: Totally agree! I left my mini twists in for three months coz o was lazy to take them out. I was shocked at the growth. Since then I haven't really retained length so I'm going to try 2 to 3 month protective styles next year and see what happens.

Robin In The Cut: Thanks for the great tips! I’m subscribed and I’m currently doing protective styles and my hair has grown a lot! I need to switch up the styles but I’m happy with the progress!

Becky_sbanda: Hey Seun, Thank you so much for this video it really helped my hair I left my hair alone for 4 months in protective styles and when l relaxed it I saw the growth. Now all I Iwill be doing is protective styles so that it grows more ❤️

Robine: Your hair is goals . I love your videos cause you give such great advice. I've followed your tips and my hair has grown from neck length to under my collar bone. Thank you.

Amal Lawal: I started doing this and people are surprised at how much my hair had grown Thank you for this

Pipimac🌸: Thank you Seun. I’m on this exact journey. I’ll be back with length update

Kaycee P. Morgan: Exactly! I create box braids using only my real hair. I also shampoo, condition and moisturize while hair is in box braids. The only time I undo box braids is to redo braid. Along with finger combing, I’ve seen tremendous growth and my hair feels HEAVIER in weight!

satella45: i got so lazy doing my natural hair.. going natural is ALOT OF WORK especially wearing it curly its a lot! so i always put braids in or crochet and it has help grow and thicken my hair sooo much! i really did not realize how much protective styles help grow your hair. i also do not put a lot of products in my hair. i deep condition my hair may 3 or 4 times a year and only put oil on and it really help grow. im glad im not the only one who found that out thank you for mentioning this !!

unaBRIDGEd32: My college advisor told me in 2006 "IF IT DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU, THEN IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!" I've carried that nugget of wisdom with me and applied it to every situation. Those methods work for others, but they don't work for me!

Nayaa O: Just braided my hair to start a 3 month protective style so will let you know how it goes!

La autopista de libros: Wow I love how you make everything so simple, thank you so much <3

Deborah Mutombo: Honestly keeping in my protective style for longer has been a game changer

Sadira: Great video, currently trying to grow my relaxed hair!

Awusaku-Ndubuisi Chisom: I have been following your tips on protective styling and the growth has been awesome. Thank you for all your help seun

abnormpsych17: I started keeping it exclusively in braids since like May because I'm lazy and I've always hated styling my hair and it's been so good for me. I stumbled across your protective styling videos and you insipred me to learn how to cornrow my own hair. I can almost do it now!

Destiny: I LOVE that you get right into it, and talk fast. A lot of other youtubers just love the sound of their own voice. Great upload!

theEarthChildx: This is so true my hair got sooo long once I started doing protective styles most of the time.

Ciara Logan: Hey Seun, I have a couple questions for you! I am about install a wig by myself and I want to braid it down and do cornrows. First questions is, should I blow dry my hair before braiding? Should I apply products, if yes, what products do you recommend for the cornrows?

Foxy Mara: I use to this when I was younger and my hair grew like crazy. I guess if it’s not broke don’t fix it. I’m keeping my faux locks in for 3 months

Abisola Oladipo: Seun... Thank you for your videos. I'm on knotless braids and my edges have all gone out. First time I'm making my hair this year. Looking in the mirror and i"m convinced i'll soon cut my hair. Any tips for my receeding hairline?

S1m0ne Hinds: just got box braids in and am super desperate to grow my hair so def willing to try this. See yall in three months!

Lea A: Protective styles broke off my hair like crazy but that's 100% the stylists' doing. I'm going to learn how to do my own hair

Teleah: I relaxed my hair 10/23/20. The top half of my hair is a litter under processed. I’m contemplating on relaxer day if I should do a corrective relaxer just so everything is one texture, and eliminate any unnecessary breakage.

Cant Stress: Hey I watched one of your videos early last year and I tried it. so yesterday I took down my natural hair braids and the growth was shocking. I minimized touching it, just going out with my cap and or hijab on. amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Melissa Mark: Omg I tried your crochet protected style and I really saw growth in my hair I was soo happy so I did it again lol thanks for sharing this most people does really overdo it with those expensive hair products

Cusp_Of_Magic: Protective styling is something I hardly do, but I want to. It's just hard for me to find someone to braid my hair, and I'm not a big wig wearer, even though I wear them every blue moon when my hair is real nappy and unmanageable, but for the most part I just deal with my own hair. This is something to try again, though.

Khule Dramme: This is very true in 2019 I stopped oiling my hair, had light passion twist and crochet upto June this year, relaxed and my hair has never been longer. If your hair grows fast don't leave it too long without touching up it might break instead, 6 months should be the limit

Eunice Odiase: Thanks for the video, Seun. I am currently rocking the T30 Tiana Passion Twists you demo'd and really like them! Thanks. BUT... my edges... woof! With my kinky coily 4c hair, my edges are not cute. Topic Request: how to slay your edges and care for your edges to prevent breakage while rocking your protective style. Thanks, my naija sista. :)

Reg. Pson: Watched your first video on growing your hair in august and used protective styles since, I’ve grown my hair 4 inches!

angelheartonline: Wow. This is so So interesting. I’m 100% natural. And protective styling for me (braids, wigs, weaves) are so drying and causes so much breakages for me. But I need need need regular moisture and seal. I always see the most growth when I have a set and standard hair regimen with includes regular moisture and seal (with set products like aloe vera and Ayurveda) . This is why I love the hair community. Because all of our journeys are so unique to us. What works for one may not work for someone else, but that doesn’t mean each of our stories can’t help someone else along the way in some way. And that is such a beautiful thing!

meso luv: When I was your age and used relaxers I would do the same thing. Relaxers every six months and I kept a protective style in the same amount of time. The difference I only used shampoo when I would perm it or when it was really dirty. Deep condition and Kemi oil was my choice

Beth: Can you do a relaxer routine? Would love to see how you relax your hair and avoid breakage

Oyindamola Osinubi: Thank you for this video, Seun. Really great tips you shared.

Saraya N.: Your advice is really great, been following it and it works

Tanisha Ford: I love watching your videos they really help, not to mention you’re so genuine & sweet, every time you smile it warms my heart! Keep being a rainbow.☺️

ru yuxi: I had a major set back this year 2021 is my year, my hair will grow amen

Stephanie Pink: I love how you teach us your hair methods. God Bless!

Carli Whitlock: ♤ seun, you are my "hair hero", french braids been in almost 3 weeks, they are so loose, thanxs 4 sharing your "hair journey", love your "spoken poem", please do more of those ♤

Kay I: I love the clips of you walking and your hair flowing! U looking like a whole model!

Mei Jo: This is why people see growth when they chop their hair. I haven’t styled my hair at all since I cut it can’t wait to see it grow

Ike Ijeoma: I am started leaving my hair alone, and the difference was clear. Thanks

robyne: I believe you sis bc as soon as I started watching you and doing what you have, my hair has been thriving!!

Veslie Losius: This is true, my hair grew at its longest slowly on BLUE MAGIC & CASTOR OIL when I was a kid and my mom was constantly doing my hair and leaving it in protective style, at that point we barely had black hair products. So back to the basics
