In February 2009, I uploaded our first Valentine's day tutorial on our website, in photos only. For today's tutorial, we wanted to post an updated variation of the hanging heart, using three triple-braid hearts. You do not have to do all three, perhaps you would only prefer 1 or 2. A flip-braided heart can also be perfect in any number of hairstyle variations.

{CGH#4 also wanted to be our model today, because right after filming we are cutting her hair into an A-line Bob. She has been wanting to cut it for months, and I have been the hold up. This week, I relented and we are both very happy with the new cut!}

Items Needed: Brush, rat-tail comb, spray bottle, small Topsy Tail tool, 6 small red hair elastics, hairspray {if desired}.

[, MUSIC CHARITY, VANCE ``, Two Birds.'' -Hey everyone., I'm Mindy from Cute Girls, Hairstyles and I'm here with CGH # 4 and we're going to teach you guys. Another Valentine's hairdo today that we are calling triple braided hearts.. Now we did a teen hanging heart that was similar to this like five years ago, -- forever ago, when we started first doing Valentine's hairdos., But we're kind of reviving and adding to it a little bit to make it even cuter. For you guys to try out this year. OK. Now to begin this hairstyle you're going to want to part the hair off center to one side or the other. And you're going to be working today with the small side of the hair.. So this is the heavy side where the majority of her hair falls, but we're going to be working with the other side today.. This is going to just help. Those hearts hang a little bit prettier.. Now you can see that we've done a straight part. Back. We're going to go down about two inches, maybe and then we're going to run another part line parallel to that first one.. So we kind of have a rectangular shape, and this is the hair you're predominately going to work with for this hairstyle.. So I'm going to take this and flip the rest of her hair out of the way and she'll hang onto it for me. Now, when you're working with this hair always know that the hair towards the back of your head's going to be thicker, more substantial, hair And the hair in front is kind of thinner and typically more soft.. So what we're going to do is we're going to part it a little bit off center. Otherwise, our braids will be -- like the braids back here will be really thick and the braids in the front will be really small.. So we're going to go back here and we're going to do sort of a small part right, there. Make sure our part line is nice and straight. That looks good.. I need you to hang on to that piece for me.. Then I'm just going to take an elastic -- and I'm using little red elastic today, since it's Valentine's -- and we're just going to gather up that hair and secure it with an elastic right in the middle of that square. We'Ve created. Like this., And now we're going to go back again and we're going to part it again. Again, I'm going to do a little bit smaller section for this middle piece. And you won't notice that it's not exactly centered evenly when you are working with the Hair later. - This is still a little bit too thick.. Do it a little bit smaller -- there. We go -- because I'm more concerned that my braids are even because they're going to show up more than the actual part lines. Hang on to that for me. And go ahead and secure it again with another little elastic. And secure our last section with an elastic. As well., So we now have our three sections of pretty much even hair.. Now we're going to take --, you can let it go now. We'Re done. We're going to take our Topsy Tail and we're going to stick it upside down. --, normally you'd. Go this way. -- and we're going to pull that hair through and we're going to flip it and pull that hair through and then tighten it down. We're going to do that three times so that each of our sections gets flipped.. This helps us to create our heart shape. And you can buy these Topsy. Tails lots of different places, -- the internet Claire's any of those kinds of hair store.. Sometimes your hair supply stores will carry them too.. You can even make them from home with hangers.. Ok, so we have them all: flipped, --, nice, little pieces, -- and now we're going to braid.. So we're going to start with our first section. We're going to divide it in half. And just because I really want the braids to look tight and smooth. I'M going to go ahead and wet this hair down.. You don't have to do that. If you don't want to.. Will you just hang on to that one piece for me., So I'm going to just wet just this little bit down and then go ahead and braid. And you don't even have to braid all the way down the strand -- just about maybe five six inches --. Just long enough for it to create a heart., [, MUSIC CHARITY, VANCE ``, Two Birds.'' ] -OK. So when you have all your braids in place, I'm going to take the middle ground one first and create the first heart. And I don't want mine super crazy long.. I want it to look like just a really cute little delicate heart., So I'm going to slide out the hair elastic that was holding it in place and go ahead. --, I'm just going to reuse it to put these two together.. Ok, so we have our first really cute little heart., OK! So now I'm going to take the second and I'm going to go through just one little loop of that middle heart., And now I'm going to create another heart on this side.. Again, I'm going to just reuse an elastic to hold it together. There we go., And you can see that we're going to have two little interlocking hearts. And we want the third one to look the same. So we're going to take this and go through that. First heart and create our third rig heart right, here., Get that elastic. About like that., Secure, it. And get it to lay right. And then go ahead and brush out the ends and the rest of the hair.. And we are finished with our cute little three hanging. Hearts., OK, let's do the finish. Spin. Look at her hair.! Look how long it is. Enjoy because we're cutting it today. A surprise. Haircut huh, -Yeah., -Yep., So you'll have to see what it looks like when we're done.
