Is #2016 the Year of the #BonnetBoys?

Twitter is something else! With people always in constant communication, it’s become a place for funny jokes, memes, and even political messages. But what has Twitter come up with for the beginning of 2016? Allow me to introduce you to.. The #BonnetBoys.

It seems like everything started with one tweet. This is that tweet.
In a matter of minutes, and in the true nature of Twitter, #BonnetBoys went viral. Guys from all over the world were stealing our head scarves and bonnets, then putting them on.

#Bonnetboys got a lot of attention for the span of a few days. People had both positive and negative things to say about the trend. Thousands watched as more and more men joined the #BonnetBoys movement.

Each guy took a selfie in a bonnet or a headscarf, and posted with the #BonnetBoys hashtag. One of the things I found funniest was the wide variety of colors and styles they had, and it makes you question which sister, cousin, friend, or girlfriend they took for the sake of Twitter.

Some guys used #BonnetBoys to share secrets they’ve had for a long time. It seems like guys with dreads have always been down with our night time regimen. The struggle of waking up with the morning with ruined hair is universal.

People also attributed the beginning of the #BonnetBoys to Snoop Dogg, who’s always posting pictures of himself in bonnets and scarves.

All in all, hilarity ensued, and the natural hair community was entertained. A lot of women tweeted their support for the #BonnetBoys.

What made the #BonnetBoys so popular? Who knows, but it was definitely funny for a while. Twitter went from joking about women who slept with bonnets to embracing men that did the same. We can only wonder what the next trending topic is!
