DIY Protein Packed ‘Green Machine’ Shake For Hair Growth And To Strengthen Fragile Hair

If you’ve been learning and dealing with the ins and outs of hair care, then by now you know protein is important; we talk about it so much that it’s almost annoying—but it’s very necessary. Not only does protein strengthen your hair, but it promotes growth and halts hair loss and thinning.

I am big on internal hair supplementation because in my opinion protein treatments can only do so much for my hair, so I opt for something that is delicious, fulfilling, and easy to make: protein shakes.

Protein shakes are exactly what they sound like—shakes that are packed with protein; more specifically, they are your chosen liquid mixed with an animal or vegetable sourced powder that helps supply your body with a significant amount of protein that you may not be able to get through diet alone.

Whey protein in particular is very good for your hair because your body absorbs it better than any other type of protein, meaning that it will benefit your hair in ways that other proteins may not be able to. It strengthens your already present strands and allows new kinks and curls to grow in thicker and stronger than before.

A lot of people don’t really care for the taste of whey protein mixed with just water, so they use milk, juice, fruits, and/or vegetables to make the taste a lot more bearable; this is also a good way to add some extra protein to your shake without adding extra powder.

My favorite protein shake recipe is the “Green Machine”. It’s a delicious blend of nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables that all work together to give your hair the extra boost it needs. Check out the recipe below and like always, please consult your doctor before making any major changes to your diet.

Green Machine

1 Scoop (42g) of Vanilla* Whey Protein (Vegan Option: Soy or Rice Protein Powder)

2 cups of baby spinach

½ avocado

1 medium banana

½ cup of canned pineapple chunks in water or 100% pineapple juice

8-10 oz. of coconut* milk (depending on how thick you like it)

Try it the next time you make a smoothie and let us know how you like it!
