How I Save Money On Shampoo Products While In College

college studentI am sure there was a time in your life where you tried many methods for saving money with products and none of them seem efficient, effective or inexpensive.

I recently discovered a way to stretch my shampoo and for a girl in College who washes her hair every two weeks this has been a life saver.

Here is what I do:

1. Part hair into 4-6 sections and pre-poo to detangle

I part my hair into 4-6 sections securing each section with butterfly clamps. This process makes the hair easier to detangle with your fingers or a comb.

Once I have parted my hair, I put some pre-poo on the hair and I run it down the hair shaft. My pre-poo consists of oil, a conditioner mix, or just apple cider vinegar* rinse, which is one of my favourite things to use.

I spray the apple cider vinegar on the hair and on the roots, that way I do not have to work too hard when I am actually shampooing my hair. Doing the apple cider vinegar* rinse first gets your hair prepared for shampoo because it helps to detangle, gets the hair soft and ready to be washed.

2. Pour shampoo your into a color applicator bottle*

Next, I make a concoction with shampoo and water in an applicator bottle*. Make sure when you put the shampoo in the bottle, you fill up until about a third of the way. I use an 8oz bottle so around 2-3 oz of shampoo will work fine then add water and shake.

If your mix is too thick, then add more water and if it is too thin, then add shampoo. When you get the hang of it, you will no longer do trial and error. Do not worry if you made too much, you can save the mixture for your next wash day right there in the bottle.

3. Apply shampoo mixture directly onto the scalp

Now that the solution is perfect and your sections are portioned out correctly. Apply the shampoo directly to your scalp, rubbing your scalp gently.

When you are ready to wash out the shampoo, wash each section separately and apply your conditioner and oil to prepare your hair for deep conditioning*.

That’s it! If you are a college student and want to stretch your products try this method with your shampoo and see how it works for you.
