The 7 Most Important Hair Growth Lessons You Will Learn This Year

How does your hair today compare to a year ago? Have you made fantastic progress and your hair now sits at waist length? If so then click back, I obviously have nothing to say to you otherwise if your results have been just ok or nonexistent then you are the person I am talking to. Hair growth is big business in black hair care. And whether you buy into the whole idea of hair regimens and growth aids or not, the fact that you are here right now speaks to the fact that you do in fact care about your hair and you want succeed in achieving length.

There’s no right or wrong reason why you would want to go on a hair growth journey, all reasons are valid, personally I did it just to prove that I could and somehow managed to build a career out of it! It helps to know what to expect along the way when you are just embarking on what could be a wonderful journey. The fact that the outcome is filled with so much uncertainlty is what may hold you off from even trying but you really should because the payoff is worth it.

I wish I’d had the benefit of foresight when starting on my own journey all those years ago, perhaps I wouldn’t have made as many mistakes as I did. Still, passing on some of my knowledge to you should hopefully help you avoid some of the same pitfals that befell me at the time.

This isn’t an arbitrary list with soundbites like ‘deep condition more’ or ‘see a good stylist’ or any of that other stuff. Of course deep conditioning* is important, and you already know that don’t you? Ok then, I won’t bore you with the obvious stuff. Click to the next page for your first lesson in hair growth and find out why even some of the most avid hair growers are still struggling with achieving length.

1. Success Will Come Only With Sacrifice

Whaaat? But why?? I hear you ask… Well, we all want a quick fix for our problems and hair care issues are no exception. Hands up if you have bought hair vitamins in the past expecting them to be the miracle in a bottle that would grow your hair to BSL in a month then been sorely disapponited to find that they “didnt work”. Sorry hun, the vitamins* work fine, it’s your attitude that’s not working.

You wouldn’t expect to get paid at your job if you didn’t turn up for a month would you? Why then would you expect a payoff when you haven’t invested anything in your hair? If you are not prepared to put the time into your hair care routine, dont expect to get any results back. Your hair aint that loyal.

2. You Don’t Know Your Hair Yet

It takes a long time, even years, to get really confident with your hair care. More bad news huh? No this is actually a good thing! You may still have a lot to learn but if you come across a new problem with your hair it’s likely that somebody else has probably been through it all before. Don’t despair and just ask questions that will help you learn your hair.

Yet even as your confidence grows, know that your hair could still change and stop responding to techniques that worked in the past. It could be that as you grow older and those pesky grays start appearing or due to new medication you may have to adjust some things. Understanding that your hair is in constant state of flux should keep you on your toes and make you aware that regimens have to be updated periodically. I told you your hair ain’t loyal.

3. You Will Probably Not Get Any Growth In The Beginning

Awww man! Isn’t that the whole point of the hair journey? Calm down, yes growth is the eventual goal of going on a hair growth journey but there’s a little saying we like repeating here on BHI. With Health Comes Length. Your hair will grow long when the health of your hair improves enough to survive past your current length.

As you care for your hair better and you start to trim away the damaged hair leaving just the healthy hair, your results will compound and you will start crossing out your goals as you achieve them. It just takes time to get there.

4. If You’re Not Taking Pictures Regularly Then You Simply Don’t Know What’s Going On

Human eyes have evolved over millions of years from sea dwelling creatures to the complex organs they are today. These marvels of nature are designed to recognize shapes so we can tell if it’s a dear friend or tiger that’s approaching or see color so that we don’t accidentally eat those brightly colored bugs that would surely kill us.

What our eyes are not designed to do however, is to see miniscule differences in hair length over short periods of time. So if you hair grows by a quarter inch in a month, you are unlikely to see the difference with your naked eye. If you can’t see your progress then chances are that you will give up on your fledgling journey before giving it enough time to succeed. Take pictures of your progress periodically so you can actually see and admire your progress, trust me, you will enjoy your journey more when you can see where you started.

5. If You Are Changing Your Regimen Constantly Then Success Will Elude You

It seems every week a youtuber comes up with a new method of growing 2 inches in a week using 1 weird trick. They create exotic mixes involving the use or chicken gizzards or some other such strange ingredient then proceed to apply the mixture to their hair and scalp daily. The youtuber get hundres of thousands of views while the local butchers wonder why chicken gizzards are suddenly so popular. Ever wondered why we never see the follow-up videos from the youtubers showing us how they repeat the same miracle hair growth mask week after week and end up with butt length hair in a few months?

If you are constantly watching videos like these and following short term methods then switching tactics again when something new comes along then you will constatnly be chasing a pipe dream and success that will continue to elude you. Keep it simple and throw away the chicken flavored hair mask.

6. Your Particular Situation Isn’t Really That Unique

Now it just sounds like I’m trying to be mean but I’m really not. It’s just a polite-ish realitiy check. We all like to think that our situations are unique to us and they probably are but only to a certain extent. In this day and age when you can get information on just about anything you can think of online, getting help for a complex mix of circumstances that may be causing your hair to break is just a few keystrokes away.

You may be surprised to learn that there are lots of other people who have been through your exact situation and managed to find solutions to them. Seek and ye shall find.

7. You Have Not Tried Everything Yet

Nothing maddens me as much as a defeatist attitude. Have you been growing your hair for a couple of years but didn’t see much success so you have decided that your hair in fact cannot grow? Rubbish. In that time you have probably tried just a handful of techniques or regimens, you certainly have not tried everything.

There are always tweaks or major adjustments that you could make to your regimen that could yeild huge results if you just tried. I’ve known of people who have finally succeeded at achieving full mid back length hair after years of sitting at arm pit length just by changing a few things in their hair regimens. The definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecing a different result. If you are not finding success in your current regimen, change it and keep on changing it until you do.
