History Created: 12Yr Old Is The Youngest To Graduate With Cosmetics Arts Degree In Natural Hair Sch

Aubrianna Lash, 12yr Old Natural Hair Stylist

Have you heard about Aubrianna Lash? If not, you should for she is a dose of inspiration. This 12 yr old has been doing hair since she was 5 and now she has made history by being the youngest person to graduate from a Cosmetics of Arts course in North Carolina.

It all started out some years ago when her mom had some issues which prevented her from doing her own hair. Wanting to be helpful, Aubrianna asked if she could help and as the saying goes, ‘the rest is history.’

Bri, as she is affectionately called, started her course of study back in February at the Gifted Hands Academy, the first natural hair school in Winston Salem North Carolina. She juggled going to Quality Education Academy in Walnut Cove in the days and going to the Gifted Hands Academy from 6-9 p.m. in the evenings three days out of the week and all day on Saturdays.

The course lasted 16 weeks, in which Bri completed 300 hours in order to meet matriculation requirements. The 12 year old graduated on the 15th of July and having graduated, she is now eligible to sit the state board exam to obtain her license.

Though that is a feat for some of us, Aubrianna seems content with doing whatever needs to be done to fulfill her dream of one day owning a salon which bears her name. In all humility, she stated that she doesn’t know everything there is to know about hair yet, but she is willing to continue learning.

This young lady is a study of concentration when she is doing her thing. The future is bright for natural hair care when we have young ones like her to take the reins of natural hair care to the next level.

While she feels she still has more to learn before participating in hair shows in the short term, she is open to invitations to competitions and meet-ups because she sees them as opportunities to better her skills and hone her craft by learning from natural hair gurus in the industry.

Her mentor describes her as awesome and we can see why, for aside from doing her magic on some hair, she is involved in community development through volunteerism the H.O.P.E Foundation and is a staunch advocate for stomping out bullying.

Aubrianna, who currently holds the Miss Imperial Beauties Pre-Teen title for Winston Salem, plans on re-entering the competition next year for the Junior Teen title.

I don’t know about you, but for us a child who is able to juggle two schools yet maintain good grades, fulfil her duties as queen, and has a heart big enough to find time to help her fellow men while she plans her future career is a phenomenal woman in the making.

It speaks volumes about her dedication and maturity. The next time your child is down in the dumps about her self-image tell her about a little girl called Bri and see if you can inspire them to find the thing that is their calling.
