A 5 Ingredient Hot Oil Treatment Perfect For Hair Growth And Nourishment

Remember back in the day when we would go to the hairdresser and get an old-fashioned hot oil treatment. Typically she would pull out two little tubes and apply it all over our wet hair, don a plastic cap, and then sit us under a dryer or use some sort of heat source to help the oil penetrate.

I am sure some of us still do this but some of us are now more about that DIY luxury hot oil life. I mean let’s be honest how many of you actually knew exactly what was in any of those little packets? I have no doubt that there was some oil in each one but with regards to any other additives…call me clueless.

When you create your own treatment you are able to control exactly what is in your mix and tailor it to your own hair needs.

In this post, I wanted to share a recipe for a great hot oil treatment that you can use for hair growth and overall hair health. Here is what you will need.

Coconut Oil

We all joke about coconut oil* all the time saying that we would attempt to pour it over our lives so that it could just to make things better. The truth is coconut oil* is just that awesome because it is one of the only oils that can strengthen the hair strand from the inside out.

Not only is it great for your hair strands it also is great for the scalp keeping the follicles healthy and stimulating hair growth at the same time.

Olive Oil

Another one of my personal faves because it is easy to find and it is rich in antioxidants, vitamins A and E. The oil is made to heal and ensures that your hair feels soft and luxurious after every use.

You can buy your Olive oil* at your local supermarket or online here.

Castor Oil

The head kahuna for hair loss prevention! If you are not adding castor oil* to your mix then you are missing out big time. Castor oil* is super thick but it keeps your scalp healthy and encourages healthy growing hair.

Almond Oil

This oil conditions, nourishes, softens the hair and also smells divine. It is also great for hair growth as well.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil* nourishes your hair because it is the closest oil to the one that your scalp naturally produces. It is a great addition to any mix because your hair is already familiar with it.

How to make your DIY Hot Oil mix

I like to make my hot oil mix in an applicator bottle* and I always have an empty one lying around. Add your oils in equal parts (or however you see fit) to the bottle being very careful not to spill any. Warm the oil gently in a microwave or in a bowl of hot water.

Starting on dry hair apply the mix to your scalp and hair making sure your hair is covered completely. Cover your hair with a plastic cap and then use a heat source to heat things up for about 20-30 minutes.

When you are done, shampoo and condition as normal. Hot oil treatments are awesome, they keep your hair super healthy when done consistently. You can do a treatment once every two weeks or once a month depending on how beneficial they are for you.
