Huge Curly Puff for Short/Medium Length Natural Hair

hqdefault (1)Let’s face it, sometimes there’s beauty in a quick updo. Puffs are great because they don’t take many products to achieve and they show off our kinks and curls in all of their glory. The problem is trying to achieve a full looking puff on short or medium length natural hair.

If your hair is short, it’s a little harder to gather all of your hair into the headband without anything falling out, and it’s also harder to make your hair look voluminous. Fortunately, there’s a simple solution that us ladies with shorter natural hair can use to give us a big, attention grabbing puff.

What You Need:

Styling Product.
Headband*.
Afro Pick.

The first step to achieving a large and defined puff is to do a twist out. The twists should be well detangled and done with ample product so that there is good curl definition. The amount of twists that you do is up to you, however the bigger the twists the looser the curl definition. An average of 15-20 twists should be enough. Take down the twists after letting them set. Separate the twists, and use an afro pick to gently add volume to your hair and hide any apparent parts. The pick will fluff out the roots, but make sure not to disturb the ends of your twists.

Gently take a headband and gather your hair into it. The headband* doesn’t need to be pushed all the way to the top. It’s best to choose a headband that doesn’t have any elastic. After all of the hair is up and secure, pull a few tendrils of hair from the front, sides and back to keep up the elongated look. This is the best time to play with your hair to make sure that it looks the way you want it to. If any stray strands look dry or frizzy, apply a small amount of your styling product and twirl with your finger to bring the curl back.

This two minute tutorial is super easy and can be done at any time. This style can be worn for days at a time, and it’s great for ladies who don’t have a lot of length yet but still want to wear a cute puff!
