Is Your Conditioner A Dud? Add One Or More Of These 6 Things To Enhance It

Vit EI think it is quite insulting for me to drive all the way to Target because I cannot find ‘the brand name’ conditioner any where else, then I finally find it, I run home to re-wash my clean hair and ruin it because the conditioner has no slip!

What!? Le Sigh – Or you finally purchase that supposedly “good good” conditioner on line for the first time in years, breaking your rules, ruining your ‘no buy’ promise. Finally it arrives at your door late then you try it and it literally sucks.

Like many of us I am sure you have been fooled by an over hyped product that probably wasn’t all that it was cut out to be. Most of us need our conditioners to have slip so that we can detangle our hair. It needs to keep our hair soft and it needs to give the hair sustained moisture.

To be quite honest, with the market as flooded as it is with hair products that is not too much to ask; is it? If you happen to have a conditioner that is a dud chances are you’ve spent good money for it even if it was just 75 cents.

Money is money so before you throw away a perfectly good bottle of conditioner that doesn’t work, why not fix it? This post suggests 6 ways you can ‘fix’ your no slip, no detangle, non softening conditioners.

1. Add oil

If you want slip, then oil is your guy! Choose your favorite oil, olive oil* is mine because it is always available but you might like coconut oil* or jojoba oil* both of which are very healthy for your hair and scalp.

Add enough oil to create the feel you want. This means adding a little at a time until the mix is just perfect and your strands start to separate on their own.

2. Add honey

Honey makes your conditioner oh so moisturizing and you do not need a lot for it to start to work. I would suggest pouring your conditioner into an empty jar before mixing in your honey because of how thick honey* can get. You just want to make things easier for you to mix.

Two table spoons can make for a great moisture based solution so get in there and mix it up.

3. Glycerin

If you want even more moisture add 2 teaspoons of glycerin to your jar of honey conditioner as well. Glycerine* and honey* are humectants so they attract moisture and are perfect for a conditioner that might need a boost in the moisture department.

If you hair does not like glycerine*, or if you do not like that ingredient then stick with just honey for your mix.

shea butter4. Shea butter or Castor oil*

These two can make a runny conditioner super thick. If you like your conditioners thicker than a snicker then add either Shea butter* or castor oil* to your conditioner to make it more pliable.

Castor oil and Shea butter* have a pretty strong presence so be careful with how much you add to your conditioner especially if your conditioner is super runny.

If you add too much of either one you will end up with pure oil which is not quite what you would want in any conditioning product anyway.

5. Hydrolyzed protein

When you start using this ingredient I promise you will never stop. Hydrolyzed protein is the only protein that can penetrate your hair strand.

It is found in the highest quality protein products because of this very fact. If your hair is heat damaged, colored or just a bit wimpy and you need something to fix it fast then hydrolyzed protein will definitely help.

You can add just a small amount to the moisturizing conditioner* to enhance it and give your hair the boost it needs. You can purchase hydrolyzed protein from amazon or you can get it from a company that sells just ingredients or raw materials.

6. Vitamins

What if you are ‘ok’ with the conditioner you have but you want to strengthen your hair some more adding vitamins could do just that.

Now girl don’t go grinding up your Elongtress pills and then throwing them in your conditioner, I mean using capsules like vitamin E* that are so great for your hair when used topically.

Vitamin B5 – also known as pantothenic acid – which is fortified with pro vitamins that improve damaged hair is great for this purpose. You can get B5 in capsule form just like you would vitamin E* which makes it very easy to add to your conditioner and a perfect conditioner enhancement.

If your conditioner is having trouble delivering moisture retention then add this vitamin to it to get it to do what you need it to do.

Now in some cases some conditioners might be just straight duds; they are too runny to do anything and in that case we would say still do not throw them away. You can use them to make deep conditioners with avocados, bananas or other ingredients that you might have in store.

What do you add to your conditioner to enhance it?
