how to use a curling wand

Hey glam fam live wood here and today I'm going to be showing you how to use a curling wand like so this one here is by Babel assits one of their nano, titanium irons. You can use pretty much any iron that you like I'm using this one because professional, so it's what I would actually use it in the salon, but it's basically your general almost like it's. Basically your general composition, where you've got the protective tip here. You have your barrel here, temperature setting on this one, which the only thing I will say. I don't care for about this one as it goes from like 1 to 50, and it doesn't give you an actual temperature settings. So you almost have to have the booklet that comes with it, but I'll discuss that with you in a moment, and it also has like this little portion right here, which I know people always ask me what these are for is basically so you can sit on A surface and it props up like that, and that way you don't burn up your surface that you have is sitting on by just having it, laying on there flat onto your countertop and things like that. But I'm also going to show you another purpose for this. So that way, you guys have a better understanding of what exactly it's for and how you can utilize that piece that comes on most curling wands. It does have a swivel handle which is fantastic, any time you're working with any curling tool. That'S pretty much all I have to say about this here: let's talk about hair type before we get into this, so if you are using it on fine hair being as very thin in terms of each actual strand, you're going to be looking at a temperature of, Maybe like 360, unless a hair has been bleached and it's fine, in which case I would step it down even more so like 340, if you have normal hair or like normal to medium hair, I would say you would want to go with, like maybe 380 at Your max and then, if you are until maybe 3 83 85. If you are someone with more coarse hair, you could go up to 410, but I would really caution to stay at like 400 or lower just keep in mind. You don't even bake cookies at some of these degrees. These irons come at like now, they're making irons are like 465, which 450 was ridiculous enough, so just be be cautious as terms of how much you're using because he damage is often irreversible, and I don't want you guys doing stuff. That'S gon na burn that hair out or have you know just where you're losing Carl or losing natural, texture and definition. So I have my mannequin here. Her name is Vanessa she's, a pivot point: mannequin. I'Ve got her right here, section off in this back section here. You guys can see it's still curled from Lord. I think this is from the pin curls that I did with the flat iron literally in October. This is April. Okay, telling my cells on that I'm gon na be using rests a hair spray, because, even though it says that it's an ultra firm whole extra firm hold, it's not. I honestly prefer, as a curling spray are working on spray, so I'm gon na go ahead and give Vanessa here a quick mist and you want to just give it a pretty even miss all the way from the top portion of the hair here, not on the Scalp, but from the top portion later on down to the ends of the hair, it's just gon na give a little bit of texture while you curl, so I'm gon na tilt Vanessa forward here and hopefully that way, it'll help you guys to kind of see what All is going on all that we're gon na go ahead and take our rat tail comb and section off, like a 1 inch by 1 inch section now. The way that I select this is at the widest portion of your barrel, which is about an inch here. You don't want to take your subsection any larger than the size of that barrel. Otherwise, you're gon na have a lot of hair on there. It'S not going to go through properly and be burning portions of the hair and not fully curling the other portions from there. We'Re gon na go ahead and select that hair out comb it nice and smooth, and I'm going to place this iron heading downward. Now you can honestly place it whatever direction you like, if you'd like, to place it across like this. That'S fine! If you like place down this way, how do you want to do if you'd rather go up? That'S fine, too, and then from here, I'm just gon na go ahead and grab this hair. Now I'm gon na show you the correct way as well as the incorrect way to do this to get one curls, so I'm gon na go ahead and grip up close and we're going to place. Remember that part with the nibs I've shown you about earlier. I'M just gon na place that right against the scalp okay from there, I'm gon na go ahead and begin wrapping. This around be careful not to burn yourself just like so now notice. I'M not loosening this hair, I'm just letting it wrap around there. The way that it naturally does so I want to take it down as far as I can without releasing that here and we're just gon na. Let it sit for about I'd, say maybe ten seconds or so so once we've done that I'm just going to go ahead and release and let that baby cool don't go messin with it, while it's still warm because then you're gon na lose some of that shape. That'S in there, but you guys can kind of see that curl there one of the mistakes I see people frequently make when they are doing this is they do it and it ends up looking like a curl, so basically what they do is they take the hair And they're wrapping it around like this. Do you guys see the difference when you do that, it's kind of like you could curled it around the curling iron? It'S just going to look like a big Shirley Temple curl and you guys can see just from the difference of those two curls. I want you guys to have a look at that. This looks more like a standard kernel. This one is more like a wand curl. So if you're looking for one curl that beachy wave looseness, that's the way you want to do it if you want a standard, curl, just use a curling iron. Now let's say you are worried about burning your hands things like that, honestly, what you can do to kind of help that out - and it sounds a little far-fetched, but you guys know those shower gloves that you can use like the the Jesus. I find myself the shower gloves could happen while I'm talking about not burning yourself, it's like an exfoliating shower glove and it's like the stretchy ones, not super thick, basically with those. If you put that baby on there. Surprisingly, it doesn't burn, but it'll also keep you from burning yourself so good to know. For those who are a little scared of heat, you know you can go ahead and usually take care of that. So I'm gon na do across this back section and then I'll. Let you see, and in the next video I'm gon na, be showing you guys how to do soft waves after you have done a full head of curls like this all right, glam fam see you guys can see. This is just one row of these curls like this here. If you want it to have more of a full look like this, all you have to do is take the bottom of those curls and just give them a tug like that, and they loosen right on up for you. You can actually even drag your fingers through them, but look at look at how much they change just by pulling the bottoms versus leaving them together. It'S going to give you a lot softer of a feel to that hair. Now, the next video I'm going to show you guys how to do those soft Hollywood style waves with this type of curl. That gives you that very red carpet look stay tuned, take care until next time you guys stay glam, and you know I love you. Boo, bye, bye,

enternamehere: I’ve been a tomboy my whole life and am starting to get in touch with my “feminine” side. I‘ve been learning how to doll myself up with makeup and hair, but curling/straightening hair has totally scared me the most. This video was so helpful, I’ll definitely be getting those gloves after this! Thank you!

Erin: Finally. Finally! I learned to curl my hair *properly* with a wand exactly like yours. I've had it for five years and kept getting Shirley Temple curls. I wanted beach waves. I finally learned out to do it. You have such a clear, easy to understand teaching style. Ty!

Lynn Simpson: Thank you for getting straight to the point! I learned everything I was looking for in a short amount of time. I'm going to a concert with a friend. It's going to be epic! Well, as epic as it can with two middle aged women! Thank you for your helpful advise

Daniela Ochoa: I've been curling my hair wrong then omg I learned so much from this video thank you so much you describe these steps so well

Robbyne Inglis: Hey! I was a complete first time amateur trying to Curl my locks with a wand my parents gave me years ago. You seriously helped a girl out with her first time doing her hair with a wand! Thank you so much I was able to navigate the rest pretty easily ☺

Erin Frizzell: Thank you! This is a awesome tutorial! Well actually all of them are! Also what really helped me was not turning the heat on while practicing wrapping the hair around the wand to get the motion of it!

Ms Hunni: This was so helpful because I can’t curl for nothing. But I’ll give it another whirl

Jackie Hammond: Thank you for explaining the different hair types and heat settings. Also, how to wrap to get and beach wave VS a standard curl. Soooo helpful!! You are amazing.

Velvet Brown: Thank you so much for the video! I learned everything. How to hold, possible product to use, technique, & that I'm cut out for a flat iron - the best. My daughters had the wand sitting way back in the back of the closet & this was a spring clean find.

Lady Plantagenet: I twist as I wrap, and the curl ends up amazing! And it lasts for days!

Rebeca Andrade: He meant what he said. BEGINNER tutorial! So informative and by far the best video for beginners! Thank you!!!!!!!

Jaymin: Once again, I’ve learned a lot. Using the little stand portion to balance the curling wand while curling is an awesome tip. Thank you Linwood. Be blessed

nicolle n.: wow, this was so informative. My curls always came out like the curls you get from a curling iron even though I was using a wand. I have both though. Sometimes I prefer the bigger curls I guess but I am glad to know the correct way now :)

Nyx: Your videos are always so great and informative! Can you suggest a curling iron or wand for thick hair? My hair are super straight and so far nothing can really curl them. I end up with pin curl them or use rugs - old traditional style. Which isn't bad, but it's certainly time consuming

NoFace Just Games: I followed your advice and my hair came out perfect !!! Thanks for your video ❤❤❤❤

MelStarr: Great tutorial! Quick question: can you use a styling mouse with the curling wand, or is it best to stick with the holding spray? I am looking for ways to repurpose what I already have instead of having to buy a product just for the few times that I use a curling wand .

Amber Davis: Thank you for describing the different ways to wrap the hair around the wand!!! I never realized that was my problem lol

Tammie McLean: Love the way you teach this video, excellent, thank you

Capri Gold: This might sound a bit odd, but I'm very new to using a curling wand, and I'm having a lot of trouble sectioning my hair. So I curl one piece, and it get's lost in all the other uncurled pieces, and It ends up being a big mess. Any tips on how to just section my hair so that it is easier to manage? I tried just keeping one side tied back, doing a half up half down, just going in blind, but it always ends up messy and I loose my curls I've already done. Also, I have long hair (which isn't extremely thick). Sorry this is such a weird question, I know it might seem simple but I really am a mess!

Victoria Hehn: very informative and professional. great pointers!

Kersha Beaver: Perfect I have never been able successful with doing wand curls

Isabel Biggin: This was so helpful!!!!! The wand I just got has a glove that came with it!!

Sheri Soltes: My stylist Beau Sutton, in Austin, shared your video when I asked him for guidance. I’ll be following you from now on. Thank you. You’re awesome!

Christa Lopez: I love this. Personality and tips are amazing!

A: The gloves are silicone and fairly cheap and are the best. Also it may seem odd but using silicone lubricant in your hair also does wonders! Also is cheaper than most hair products that are of the same thing, like Paul Mitchell's smoothing hair serum ... just lose the great smells

Jhayne Baluyot: Thank you for this vid! You were on the top on of my search list and you didn't disappoint. I learnt things and you made me laugh!

Toasteee1986: Thank you for the temperature information. I'm not trying to fry my hair over here. Side note: my curling wand came with one of those gloves you mentioned. :)

Cynsational: I wish I would’ve known about heat damage as a teen in the early 2000’s I literally damaged my naturally curly hair from straightening it all the damn time

TheBinisaMix: So it's okay to spray hairspray on hair before curling? Never knew that! I thought it might damage the hair as it is a flammable substance. Might try this to see if it holds the curls longer. ♥️

bluelover929: I got a glove with my straightener/wand kit! it does look like a shower glove lol. I never did anything like this with my hair because my hair is fine and doesnt hold any styles, and im afraid of damage (colored hair) but this new infrared technology is less damaging and seems to hold even my hair type...it gave me hope that I can feel pretty and like my hair :) So, i have the tools but not the know how! thanks for these tutorials, they are easy to follow and not filled with bad info like some homemade tutorials can be. <3 much love

Annabelle Dibs: I would trust this guy to do whatever he wanted to my hair. Based on his presentation and professionalism you can tell hes a pro and turns whatever hes doing to gold.

Cecilia Hobbs: I watched 4 other videos before watching yours. And yours was the most helpful! Thank you for your tips!

Laura Graham: You are such a great teacher!!!

Katlynn S: I got a Remington rod today. I found it at a thrift store for cheap lol and even though I have burned my fingers a few times it ACTUALLY curled my hair. Which is great because my hair don't want to ever hold them. Its like one side I'll get a few curls the rest just roll out. And I don't mess with it either. It comes out straight too. And I've used many different curling irons like with the clamp. So I'm happy that this rod actually does something.

Lillth: Thank you ×100!!! I have super thick hair and I kept putting it on the lowest setting ‍♀️

Doris Kenner: Great tips and wand demonstration. I have a small wand and rarely use it for my extensions because I’m always burning my fingers lol!

Smiley: Thanks for this video. So helpful.

Anna: Thank you! The best explained video that i have ever seen, maybe i can learn this too! :)

CarolB: I couldn’t curl my hair to save my life. But you gave helpful tips that’ll help me out so I’m motivated to try again.

Shannon Rogue: Great video with lots of info, thank you for this.

Brooklyn's Baby: Any tips for giving Volume to the hair after curling it? Mine almost always ends up greasy and flat after two hours after curling it :(

Beth*: They actually sell (or they used to) ‘heat’ gloves that you wear so you don’t burn yourself. They are like those little tight stretchy ones they sell in winter. You can actually grab the iron and you won’t get burnt at all. However I wouldn’t recommend that! They came with this exact Babyliss curling iron he is using. Unfortunately I lost mine. . I just came across your videos and love them!

Lesley Osler: Would you recommend a heat spray first ? And I love your video very informative

stefaniamariamancini: What do you do with thin fine hair to void frizz? My hair gets more frizz when using heat. Nothing I've tried works

Kierra Malone: Your videos are so informative .

Nadine Keating: I'm just curious... its something I tend to wonder about every time I turn on my flat iron (so pretty much daily, as i also use my flat iron to create curls/waves in my hair) is if your saying the maximum temperature anyone should go with their heat tools is 400 degrees (and that would be for the most coarse hair types)... why do they go up so high in temperature? My flat iron is digital and goes up to 450° (and I have to admit, it is very tempting to just out it up all the way to the highest temperature to make the process quicker by needing to only do one pass with the iron to get the results you want..especially when like me, you have LOTS of long, thick hair to straighten and you're looking at about an hour and a half of work ahead) I would imagine the manufacturers of these hot tools know the risk of heat damage beyond a certain temperature, so why are those high temperatures even options on these tools?

Claudia Finlayson: Very well explained thanks

doritos: thanks so much for this!!! i have the same wand

Maddy Morgan_2006: Thank you so much this helped me a lot!! you are the best!!

Princess Lay: Thanks you really helped me ❤️

Brianna Begaye: I learned Soo much thanks for the video!!!

Andrea Welch: Linwood I learned so much. I am truly addicted to your channel. I watch all your videos and learn and laugh and feel like family!! I looked all over but - I can’t find the second video to this one. Did you post it yet? My hair is naturally wavy and I have ALWAYS wanted to learn how to do those old Hollywood waves. It is probably the only thing my mixed head of hair is good at. Can you posy the link?? Love you and your gorgeous family!!

Indi Jane: New sub here! I found your channel while looking for fish braid tutorials and I love your videos! You have a beautiful family!

Amanda Y: I finally know what to doooo! Lol I've always wanted to use a wand but I over think wayyy to much to the point where i just decided not to touch one ever. Now I have renewed confidence and curiosity. Todays the dayyyy!

trishalachell: Thanks for the video Linwood. I've been wand curling my aunts hair while she watches me in the mirror. She went and bought her own and l sent her a video. She still can't get it right, she's too FLICKED as she puts it. So I am going to send her this video. Hopefully she gets it or she said she will be taking them back.

vicky tavarez: This helped me so much !

lphuongq: thanks for posting; i liked the way you presented the info; the audio and video are both clear; the voice was warm...in short, very informative, i will try it next time.

L O: This is wonderful how good he explains step by step

Ms. LaMar: Thank u! Just bought a wand today and needed this!

Tricia K: Oh, so *that's* what I was doing wrong, I was wrapping the hair round the second way! Also, can anyone recommend a good heat resistant glove, which has some grip? I tried an exfoliating glove but it just melted - and preferably in a longer length, so I can stop burning my wrist!

Shari Carver: Thank you! I had no idea what to do with the curling wand! (of even that it was called a "curling wand!")

Tracy C.: Great tutorial. I don't see this working however for those of us with really long nails. Maybe the glove would help.

NoVacantNames: I bought a wand on accident, when I meant to buy a normal curling iron. But oh well! Gonna give the wand a try. Thanks for teaching me how to use it :D

Claudia Ortega: Will the curls work on short thick hair? Btw love your videos ❤️

Sue Davies: Brilliant video. I've just got a curling wand and am practicing. I have fine hair and my lowest setting is 160 which sort of gives me curls should I go up to a bit further to say 200? Thank you

Latrice Byrd: I'm so glad you didn't fall. . Love the shrit. This is so good that you have the break down on the temperatures, so many people think that they can use any heat tools at there max temps, I was one of them cause I was always told thay my hair held heat well, I have fine hair. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Nadia Jumale: Thanks for the tips im a beginner and it really helped!!
