First off. Remember to have fun with your hair. If it doesn't match perfectly that's ok.

Color Codes for Wigs. The lower the number the darker the color.

1 = Black and 60 = White with tons of shades in between.

If new to buying wigs. Ask the manufacturer for a color sample. PaulaYoung.com does this for free. Some places charge a few dollars. Better to spend $5 than pay $100 for something you don't like. Or visit a wig store or beauty supply store. All wigs and extensions follow the same basic color number with slight differences.

Hi there today I thought we would talk about grey wings and how to choose your colors and what all those crazy letters and numbers mean for the color kids, so getting started wearing wigs can be kind of daunting. So I thought I would go over what each color means and I have color swatches. So I don't work for Polly young, but they do give you free, color swatches when you sign up for their newsletter online and they'll mail, you a catalogue and stuff. But if you don't want that, you can't opt out, so you can pick blondes or brunettes slash black colors Reds. I have videos on the brunettes, blacks and blondes and I'll put links below to all of that. So basically, the lower the number, the darker, the color, a true black is a 1 and a 1 B usually means very, very dark black and then Browns get up into like 12 8 colors like that, and then blondes are 16 17 and Gray's get up to Your 38 and then 60 is pure white, and then you have some hundreds, which are usually platinum blonde, so let's go over each color swatch and what they mean. What I have on right now is a fifty one sixty which is usually referred to as silvery moon. For Polly Young, but each brand uses the same color codes, so you can kind of go across brands. If you want so it's a little complicated. You see adorable kitten in the background, that's Athena! So at the bottom we have a 38. That'S a light ash brown with 25 % gray and then a 44 is a salt-and-pepper 50 % gray and 50 % brown. Black 51 is 75 % gray, and a 25 % brown black 56 is 90 % gray, sometimes called a soft pewter and 10 % brown black and then 60 is pure white. So that is very bright, blue tone, cool white and they don't have all of their Gray's on this. They also make a 60 B, which is a beige white which is kind of a warm toned, but still pure white. A 101 is actually a blonde, and that is a platinum ash blonde with beige highlights. So a lot of the Grays have a mixin of this kind of warm blonde in it and that's a good way to transition. If you find a kind of a brown wig with a highlight of 101 platinum blonde, then that can kind of ease you into wearing it for a couple months and then going more gray as time goes on. A 17 101 is a light ash brown with the Platinum ash, blonde Frost. So and then my favorite is the SF 5116 called silvery moon and these do all come out and you can put them on a ring if you want. But that's what I have on here and it's very flattering, and it has a little bit of dark strands mixed in there you so the wig I have on right now is gray, that's kind of a mystery color, because I don't have the tag on it still, But if you look at this is a silvery moon, 5160. It'S pretty close. This is mostly a 16, which means pure white and kind of a blue tone color. But because it's a poly, yung wig, it's never gon na be a hundred percent one color for the most part, because your bio hair isn't a hundred percent one color. You have highlights and lowlights so there's still a few strands here and there that are darker gray and so I'll kind of zoom in so you can see now my my hair is not gray, it is dark brown and you can see it peeking out at the Edges, so if you are trying to wear gray wig and your hair is not at all gray, I mean you want to get an extended nape. This is not an extended Nate. This is normal. An extended Nate comes down an inch or two more in the back to help hide your own hair, and then I just have to make sure that I have this kind of brush forward to hide the edges of my own hair. Now, if you get a more mixed color, then you wouldn't have to do that because often your hair underneath is darker than your hair on the top, and that brings me to SF 5160. What does the SF stand for that stands for salon, Frost, meaning it is lighter at the top and a slightly darker at the bottom? It'S not a rooted wig, because those would say rooted whatever color. It happened to be, and that would mean you would have a dark root as if your highlights were growing out. That'S less common in traditional gray, wigs, but, as gray is getting more popular, you can find gray and silver with a root and even a really long. Like long root in like several inches as young people try to experiment with kind of fun colors of hair, so I've definitely experiment and try it out. It'S a lot of fun with wigs, so don't be afraid to get started, and it can really give you a boost of confidence. So this is spring honey by Noriko and it's not a great wig at all. It is a blonde wig. So if you're trying to start out look for wigs that might have a little bit of blonde. So if you hold them right next to each other, it's a big difference. But if you don't, then you can at first glance start to transition by using blond, highlights, and I happen to have a wig that is 38. So if you look at it really closely, you can see it's mostly kind of a pewter Brown and then every once in a while. There is a strand of gray, so kind of a beginning color for if you're going to transition to gray wigs. This happens to be Emily, I probably on, and then I also have further up the spectrum and I've done a review on this topper and a wig in a similar color silvery moon, which is SF 5160, which is a much lighter, predominantly pure white, with a little Bit of 75 % gray, 25 % brown black, which is the 51 and then the 60 is the pure white. Just to let you know, this is indoor lighting, but I do have a window right here. So all of these colors are a little more light and bright than they might be in a normal kind of office, indoor setting and then we'll also go outside to look at the color swatches in the sunlight. So here it is outdoors and in direct sunlight, and then this is the brown wig that I normally wear just as a comparison. So if you have any questions, please leave me a comment below or suggestions on future videos. Just let me know you as always. Thank you for watching and don't forget to Like comment or subscribe.

Dorothy Lee: Thank you so much...you have created the perfect video for me .... color is so confusing! Also the description of the extended nape is helpful. Also, can you tell me if there is any wig that is shown in the 60B color? That sounds like it would be perfect for me. thank you!
