Hi, you guys welcome back to my channel if you're new here my name is romance and i do a pretty fun mix of things on my channel. There'S everything from makeup to hair videos like today's lifestyle videos. So if you are into that kind of content, definitely consider subscribing to my channel and while you're there make sure to hit the notification bell so you're notified when i upload a video. So in today's video i'm going to be showing you guys how i actually went from my dark jet black hair to this gorgeous ruby red color - that i just love so so much i've gotten! So many compliments on this and i should state that i've actually been coloring my hair, this color for a very, very long time, which is literally the only reason i feel comfortable, filming this video right now. I should throw a quick disclaimer out there. I am in no way a professional, as always, if you are someone who has never experimented with hair, color and you're looking to lighten your hair in any sort of way. I highly highly recommend that you go see a professional when it comes to saving the integrity of your hair. I think it's so important to really really make that investment. Do your research and find someone who knows what they are doing just so that way, you don't damage your hair. Now i stand true to the title of this video. There is absolutely no bleach involved within this process which i'm so excited about, because obviously we all want super healthy, shiny hair. I know personally, my hair absolutely cannot tolerate the smallest amount of bleach. It will literally scream at me and dry up, and it also doesn't help that my hair is naturally dry in texture. So bleach is just completely out of the question for me, but luckily, with this hair coloring technique, my hair stays super super soft and shiny. So if you want to see how i went from jet black box tied hair to ruby red, then just keep on watching alright guys. So, let's begin with what you're gon na need to begin this process before coloring my hair, i always like to make sure i'm working on at least two or three day old hair. I also like to make sure that there is no styling product in my hair. Just so that way, the products can really adhere to your hair and do their job as best they can. Now before i even color my hair red. The next step i like to do is to go in with a hair, color remover. So what hair color removers do? Is they basically break down any permanent hair dye on your hair and basically leave you with the shade that you had on before you dyed your hair that shade, for example, my hair was a dyed jet black? However, before i had that black shade underneath was like a dark brown with a few light brown hints in my hair also, i should state that the hair color remover doesn't actually damage your hair. The way that bleach does like i said i have done this process. Multiple times in the past and never has a hair, color remover left my hair feeling brittle or dry or left it breaking off the way that bleach has, which is why i prefer to use them and honestly just swear by them. I think it is a great way to really make your job easier when coloring your hair. Now i have used the color oops hair color remover in the past, so i do recommend that one. I think it works really really great. However, this time around, i ended up trying a new one and it is actually by l'oreal. I found it at sally's and it's called the l'oreal color zap and i was actually really really happy with it. I believe the color oops and the colors up are around the same price range. So either way is fine. The only thing i don't like about the color oops is the fact that it smells really really bad. It has like a strong egg scent. So, if you're going to work with it, maybe try applying it outside or you're going to want to have some windows open to really ventilate the house. So just something to keep in mind all right. You guys so now we're going to get into the easiest part of the process which is actually applying the hair color remover. So if you're using the color zap product you're just going to want to mix both of the components within that box and shake the products together, next up, you're going to want to prepare for application and you're going to put your gloves on and begin to section Off the hair, so i usually like to section off in one inch sections and i usually like to apply my hair color remover in little zigzag motions. I just find it's the easiest for me and then i'll just go in with my fingers and kind of just run the product through the strands really making sure to saturate as best i can. It'S super important to try to coat these pieces really really well, because you really want that hair color remover to break up as much of that permanent hair dye as possible. Also, it is a very important that you only keep the product towards the middle and ends of your hair. You do not want to apply this to the roots, reason being that you don't have permanent hair dye on the roots of your hair. That is usually where your new growth is. So, if you do get this on the roots, most likely you're going to end up with hot roots, that's definitely not the look. We'Re going for in 2021 we're trying to look cute and even so, make sure to keep it on the middle and ends of your hair and work your way through each section once the product has been applied all throughout the hair you're gon na. Let it sit for around 60 minutes once the time is up, you can wash your hair as normally and then dry the hair, but you're not going to want to put any styling product in it all right. So now you've removed that hair, color and you're left with this really really weird brassy orangey yellowy shade on your hair and you're kind of freaking out, but i'm here to tell you that is completely normal. That'S exactly how the hair is supposed to look. That is why they recommend that you have your hair dye ready, so you can go in directly with your hair color of choice. So now, let's talk about the hair color, so i personally like to use the l'oreal high color highlights in the shade magenta and i ended up using four boxes on my hair. I would always recommend you purchase more boxes than less just because you don't want to be in the middle of dyeing your hair and then realize that you don't have enough and you're left with like half your hair done and the other half not so again. Save yourself the trouble and just grab some extra hair dye. If you have any doubts - and you can always bring it back, if you don't end up using it all right, you guys so now we're gon na mix up our hair, color you're, definitely going to want to wear gloves, because i'm telling you this will get everywhere And it will stain now when measuring out your hair dye you're going to want to use a 1 to 2 ratio for each box, there's about 1.2 fluid ounces of product, which means you're going to use a 2.4 ounce of developer. This case, i ended up using four boxes of hair color, which meant i would end up using around 10 ounces of developer, which is a lot of product. So if your hair is as thick as mine, this is probably how your mixture is going to look. Now, since i am going from a box dyed black shade to this vibrant red, i want to get as much intensity as possible on the first try, which is why i opted for a 30 volume developer. If my hair had been a little bit lighter, i probably could have gotten away with a 20, but 30 is just my safe zone, and it is what i recommend if your hair was around my base shade at the beginning of the video. Another thing to know is that this hair color should only be used on dark hair reason being that this is a high lift color, which basically means it has a built-in lightener, which is what allows the red to show up so vibrant once the mixture is all Set you're going to want to go in with your red protein filler. This is really great because it basically fills in any open cuticles in the hair and allows the hair color to go in more evenly. I usually like to do a capful and then just mix it all in once. Your mixture is all set. It should look a little bit like this, a little bit lumpy and creamy. That just means you're ready for application. Now, before i color the hair, i always like to protect the hairline as well as the back of my ears and my neck here, i'm just going to go in with some petroleum jelly and apply that pretty generously. Now, as far as my hair coloring technique, i pretty much do the same exact thing i did with the hair color remover and i like to work on the ends of my hair. Before i do the roots. Now because i stated that the hair color does have a built-in lightener, i want to make sure that it really tackles the ends of my hair, where the permanent hair dye was first before i do the roots applying the color. This way is really what's going to keep me from getting hot roots, and it's going to let my hair color look as even as possible, so i'm just going to repeat the same process all throughout the hair, making sure to saturate both the front and the back Of each section, so so once the hair dye was all applied, i just left it on for around 30 minutes. I washed my hair out and gave it a really really good conditioning, and this is pretty much what i was left with now. I do have a few of my hair extensions in, but i'm going to go ahead and insert a clip of me with just my natural everyday hair. So you guys can see what the hair color looks like on its own. Hey guys, i'm just popping in to show you what the hair looks like in natural light and also with no hair extensions. As you can see, it is super super vibrant on its own and super dimensional. You know, because i have those natural little highlights. It'S going to be a little bit brighter around my face, which i actually really like, and then it's going to be a little bit deeper towards the ends which is expected because, obviously that's where your hair is the darkest so yeah, that's what it looks like now. Since i dyed my hair, it has been around three weeks and, as you can see, my red is still thriving and super super vibrant, and i think it has a lot to do with the products that i use. So i definitely want to follow up with a part two on this video and kind of show. You guys how i take care of my red hair. However, in this video i just really wanted to focus on how i was able to go from the black to the red in one day that is gon na, be it for today's video. Thank you guys so much for watching. Romance: Hi guys! As stated in the video I am not a licensed hairdresser, any advice given below is just what I would personally do given your hair history. Sidenote: my hair was bleached years ago which is why you will notice my color being brighter in certain spots, (this will correct over time) what you are left with after the color remover will always depend on your hair history. FAQ: 1. Yes, developer needs to be mixed with the dye in order to activate the hi lift 2. Hair color remover is only needed if your hair was previously dyed with a PERMANENT hair color (brown, black, etc)

yahayra 💛: after crying about a boy who is sooo not worth my tears I decided to dye my hair red and my sister said to do my research & she would help me! So I watched your video and it’s all the research I need lol! Haha I’ll do more but I was a magenta hair girl before and I loved it!

Chantel Herrera: This was literally the best video I have seen for black hair to red without the use of bleach! I love it I’m going to go from black to red this Friday and I am so excited for it. Your video really helps so thank you I will for sure be watching this video again while I dye my hair

Carmie McDavis: Just found your channel, love your videos and this tutorial! I’ve dyed my hair with L’Oréal HiColor magenta on and off for the past 10 years and then started using box black dye but I’m ready to go back. Always had someone to dye it for me but now learning how to do it myself and your tutorial is perfect! Subscribed ❤️

Nessa Torresxo: ive been using this dye for YEARS. Im so happy to see someone actually use a color remover. This hair dye is meant for VIRGIN HAIR OR HAIR THAT HAS NOT BEEN DYED IN YEARS. SO many people never get the results they want , just because theyre not educated on this hair dye. Color removing is so much more less damaging , but honestly if your hair is damaged already take a break between removing the color and then applying the red. This turned out amazing girl ! you look beautiful <3 New subbie xo

Apri ASMR: You have inspired me to do this color I have had dark hair for 9 years it’s time for a change lol thanks girl!

Mariana Rodriguez: Best video I've seen for going from dark to red. So well explained and not long! Will definitely try this way this weekend. Thanks !

Catalina Does Life: Red hair goals!!! ♥️ I can't believe how healthy it looks after the black!

Jocelyn : Yo!!!!! I’ve been getting my hair did to a red color for about 4-5 months me and it falls off so freaking easy. 3 weeks and still looking vibrant on you! Gotta try this!!!!!

Jennifer Ramirez: Omg this is perfect for my damage prone hair I love it!! I’m def using this technique

Kay & Lay: Brad Mondo would be so proud of this color! It looks amazing but now I have to fight the urge to dye my hair this color omg ❤️❤️

ridddiii a: Hi!! this is the perfect video omg thank you so much for explaining everything thoroughly! I just dyed my hair red without any bleach today - when do you recommend me using your method? Should I wait a couple days to do your method or should I wait a little bit longer? My hair is naturally black and I used red dye yesterday but it just left a really unnoticeable dark red shade. Please respond when you can! Thank you!

sandra mendoza: I’ve been dying my hair forever and have never been able to get a vibrant red like this. My natural hair color is black but I’ve bleached and box dyed time and time again. Today I tried your process and my hair is beautiful and bright. I’m so happy, thank you so much for sharing!!!♥️

Mademrielle Royal: I love the red! I’ve been wanting to color my hair drastically but haven’t decided which color! You look gorg!

Claudia Ortiz: i did this, step for step, my hair is BOMB! looks exactly like this, thank you sooo much! i love it :) red phase activatedddd leggooo

Ashley Rae Boyd: This is like my 100th time watching this !! The results are amazing

Shaniah Leota: I came across your videos a few days ago , now I’m sitting in my bathroom waiting to wash I followed everything you told me to do and bought everything you got including the hair mask so I’m praying it’ll turn out exactly like yours Update : turned out nothing like yours and my roots are brighter than my whole hair

Sylvia Vang: Omg so gorgeous!!! I’ve been meaning to dye my hair red too so I can’t wait! So happy to come across your YouTube! Super gorgeous and very informative!

Gemini ♊️ Mom: Ty so much for this video! I tried 4 times to get red hair and it never worked, tried this step by step and my hair looks SOOOO GOOD! .

Dana: Do you feel like dying your hair damaged it a bit and if so, what products do you use to minimize the damage?:)

Daisy Pinon: such a great video! thank you for all the details

Romy Donks: Hi you did a very good job it looks amazing! I just want to give everybody a few tips: with normal hair dye you should start with the roots bc "most" of the time you have virgin hair at the roots and they proces slower with hair dye and faster with bleach, and then do the ends bc the ends dont have to proces as long as your roots(with bleach its Middle first then your ends, roots) also a lot of People don't know that you should wash your hair twice when you rinse out the dye. First wash is to clean the dye of your hair and the second wash is to take care of your hair so the shampoo can really do what its for. So you wash your hair with your shampoo twice and then use conditionor or a hairmask ❤ this is not hate or me trying to be anoying i just want to help People with dying hair at home (i am a hairdresser from the Netherlands my English is very bad sorry) good Luck everybody ❤❤❤

Quannas Touch: Thank you Romance!! This was very helpful!! Time for a change and I’ve considering going red !!

Mari Gonzalez: Your hair looks so beautiful and shiny before and after .. love it so much ❤

ꪑꪖꪗꪖ᥅: Thank you so much you cheered me a lot to dye my hair red even more <3

Patty Castillo: I absolutely love your video and I’m looking forward to trying this down to the tee this week! I only have one question: if after I’m done I find that I missed spots or it’s still not the right shade, can I reapply immediately?

Sydney Langlois: just came across this video while trying to figure out how to go back to red without bleach since i bleached and dyed my hair black a year ago from a previous hair dye fail and this was exactly what i needed, just ordered all the products thankyou so much for all the information

Romelia Arredondo: Omggg this is exactly what I was looking for thank you!

kay :D: the hairdresser i went to kinda did my hair completely wrong , now i see where she went wrong so thank you for this video!! i told her i had box dye in my hair but she didn’t use a color remover so the red is barely noticeable, she also did my roots first which gave me hot roots unfortunately.

Mssandra0206: Hi Romance! Great video! I wanted to ask how long did you wait until you applied the hair dye to your roots? I want to make sure I follow that so I don’t have hot roots. Thank you!

Dede Brown: Your hair looks amazing!! I have a question so basically I am going from virgin dark brown hair to a medium deep red so should I go straight in with the hair dye you have and 20 developer? And do I need the protein color filler since the dye is going on virgin hair? If you have any advice I would love to hear it thanks. ♥️

Chayarei Marie Baldonado: Just did this and I love the result thank you

Katya: SO helpful! thank you!!!!

Jeremy: love how informative the video is, I am getting back into my cosplaying next year and a few of my cosplays are for characters with red hair, so instead of buying expensive wigs for each I decided to just get my hair dyed. I wanted to try a semi-permanent dye shampoo and so far the only thing it's made red was my scalp. Went to Sally's, the girl there told me a few choices, I just picked one and went. Well guess I picked wrong so came online for more research. I'm going to give the Loreal Hicolor a try but I wanted to ask a question, I've seen a few say to get the Magenta but I'm wondering if the Intense Red or just Red would get it just a bit more brighter? Only thing I've heard so far in the difference is that the normal Red will fade to more of an orange over time and the Magenta more a pink.

amanda s!: thank you so much for making this video!! your absolutely gorgeous and i love your hair! do you know if it would be okay if i did all of these steps without the hair color remover? mine is at a natural brown right now.

Maria Jessica: I literally dyed my hair black like 5 weeks ago, but it’s already washing off I wanna do red so badly I think ima go for it thanks for this video

stephanie vialpando: Your hair was darker on the bottom because of the fact that the hair color removal unbalanced your hair color before the applied the red. Your roots are always the darkest if your hair is naturally black. No matter what color you're trying to apply to your head after bleaching or even in your case using hair color removal you should always have a balanced base before applying any other hair color.

Lizbeth Alvarez: TRIED THIS MY HAIR WAS HALF DYED WITH OUTGROWN HILIGHTS AND I WAS SCARED IT WASNT GOING TO WORK FOR THAT AREA BUT IT LOOKS AMAZING

Angelica Santiago: This video has been so helpful, I’m about to tackle this myself lol, but I had one question, I have dyed my hair in the past about 2-3 years ago was the last time I dyed it with permanent hair dye, by now my hair basically virgins again, has grown out and it’s almost fully my natural hair color besides the very ends of my hair...would I still need the color lifter in all my hair, or should I lift only the ends where the very old permanent hair dye shows?

Veronica Lozano: Omgeeeee I’m so glad I found your video, I have stubborn grays so I’ve been using black boxed dye for a long while now. I want a change and wasn’t sure how, thanks to you now I know how!! Simply gorgeous hair!! Thank you!

kitty katglittergammer: This was the best video ever I did everything you said and it worked perfectly .

AHMED ABDELBAKY: I am very impressed with your elegant style of performance and also the color of your hair and your attention to yourself is a dazzling thing. The best makeup makes you a real beauty queen. You are charming.

KrayKrayKiara: this was sooo helpful! thank you so much

Izzy Perez: Your name is Romance? That's sooo fking beautiful and this hair color definitely fits your name. We are loreal hicolor magenta twins.

Janay Gonzalez: Worked wonderful for me and I have my beautiful red hair

boriqua510: Excellent video! This is a huge help for me

Sadie Villanueva: Your red hair looks gorgeous!

Teacher Maddy: Amazing! What a beautiful color on you! I’m going to get the same color as you.

Jessica Shing: Wow thank you I have been dying my hair box black for years on and off letting it grow out or yes using bleach ( which my hair does not do well with either) but I have that little voice in my head that every once and a while is screaming for some color! I’ve done the red definitely not even close to how good yours looks, I did purple last year and it came out great but after a while I couldn’t keep up with it.. I’m sapphire black right now and want to do some nice blue highlights since the box black has always been a blue black or similar .. I was about to do it with bleach and saw this video and omg it made my day! So just wanted to say thanks and if you see this.. any tips? I’m excited to be a new subscriber! ❤️

Hideky Keiko Lopez: Wow i love it ❤️ definitely trying this out i was so scared since I’ve been dying my hair black for so long

Esther Faruk: Very informative and detailed. I will follow this . Your hair looks great. ⚘

Mary Williams: I love how the color came out. I tired that hair color before but every time I took a bath the water turned pink for several months.

karina rose: This is unbelievable omg !! From jet black to this is crazy ahhhh I'm in love!!!! thank you!

Ágata Falcão: I'm glad I found a dye thay it's made for natural dark hair and apparently works! There's a lot of videos of girls using this dye. But I'm so sad it isn't sold here in Brazil, and in Amazon it gets super expensive when I do the currency conversion

Evelin Resendiz: I bought everything you listed and loved your outcome wish me luck and did you make part 2 ??

D C: This video was so helpful and it looks amazing! Could this same process work if you were trying to lift natural black hair to a light brown? just with a different product(s)?

Sandra Nicole: So beautiful! ❤️

ReemAlshaher: It’s been about a year since I dyed my hair any color and 5 months since a keratin treatment, should I still use the color removal on my hair? My hair is currently a dark almost black color, but that’s how it is naturally

tabora _: I mistakenly thought my hair would be light enough to dye red and ONLY MY ROOTS were red I know it would go over my natural color but im hoping these tips help !! I'm terrified to do bleach no matter how professional the stylist is

Faith Elhajj: hey guys also if you have copper or light brown hair this works! I used the loreal Red and 30 volume developer- nothing else and my hair turned just this bright :)

dahli&pitaa..: do you always have to use a color remover if you already have dyed hair cause I already have red hair so can I just go in without the color remover? genuinely curious :)

Jessicastarsinspace: Do you recommend any specific shampoo, conditioner, or other products to keep the color for as long as possible?

Everything Valenz: Trying this today! I will let you know how it goes <33333

Christine Cano: Hello romance! Love your hair and content I i’m actually going to do this color on my sister‘s girlfriend today I am license hairstylist but haven’t really used this product line my question is I will be using 30 volume for her mid to end but I will definitely be using 20 for her roots in that case I can start my application as a normal root touchup with the 20 and follow up with the 30 for the ends?

Regina Obico: Hi, I’m planning to do the same as what you did here and I just wanted to ask, did u put shampoo and conditioned your hair after the color remover? and did u dye your hair right after?

Ros: Love it, great video!!!

Niki: If you wrap your hair in a plastic bag with the color remover AND THEN wrap a towel around that it helps a bit with withholding the odor- def use a ventilated room too tho

Leticia Vasquez Villegas: Magenta Red look beautiful on you! Your skin stands out. I did exactly as you did in Video... Love my Red hair❤. Thanks.

Milena Jave Ganem: Hello! Thank you for this video, I loved how you explain in detail every step. What would be the steps if its natural Black/Dark brown hair? I haven’t use any product for over 10years

Ashley Rush-Zipperian: I absolutely love the video and how your look turned out. I am about to follow your advice to revive my red!

leah davis: Looks amazing!

Milena Lehmann: hello love, awesome video! thank you! But my question is: are you doing the lengths first and when you´re done with all the hair, you go back and do the roots? So you go bottom to top for the lenghts and then bottom to top for the roots again? Thank you in advance! ♥

GuiltFreeFood: Hello, i just did my hair for the 2nd time using the loreal w/ 30 volume developer but some parts are still not as bright as my roots. The 2nd time is reapplied it, i focused more on those areas where its still dark thinking it will work for sure since i applied it first on that area and it’ll have more time to process but after washing & drying it, the same areas are still dark . Do you think 40 volume developer would help fix the problem?? My hair is fully virgin before using the splat double lift iconic red that only lifted my roots.

Ana k Garcia: I love your video!!! So pretty I was wondering if you would recommend this process but using a 10 developer if I already bleached my hair and applied artic fox wrath color but it's fading within a week, I want something more permanent.

Brandy: After you do this process and you are at your intended red… what do you use to maintain or fill in the roots since you don’t recommend this product if your hair is no longer dark?

Tori White: I have been using the loreal magenta for a few years it's my favorite color but I feel like every time I do a touch up of the color it gets a little lighter and the red washes out faster leaving my ends brassy orange after just a few washes. I've tried finding loreal magenta color without the "for dark hair" lift to it but I cant find anything like it. Any tips for touch ups?

Sm3483: how long did you leave the red hair dye on for? and if i’m using color oops to take out black box dye, should i redye the same day or wait 24 hrs? thank you

✨MADDIE ✨: Best video! Explain to the best ability thank you!!!!!!

Eva 👹👍: Hello! Hope your day has been well. Does this work with any other colour dye (purple, pink etc;) or does it only work with the colour red?

april may: Such a helpful video!! I’m ready to try this

B: Ugh !!! I got hot roots even after waiting 25 min with the color on my ends before applying on my roots ... any suggestions? ♥️ love how yours turned out !

ALESLIFE13: I love how you actually showed removing the hair color !!

Ali Tyree: My hair is dark brown. Haven't dyed it in about 9 months but I'm sure some of the color may still be there. Do I need the color remover? And what developer?

blissellie: THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL

Ashley Garcia: Ima try this thank you girly

YbJenyaaa: Hey, I know this is late but can I redye my hair again with this if I missed some spots in my roots and around my hair? Will it damage it?

Sera Toprak: I’m hoping to dye my hair exactly the red u have, what can I use to avoid the fading in the bottoms ? Thank u in advance

kay :D: i have a question !! so i had a dark box dye in my hair previously but my hairdresser didn’t use color remover and just put this dye on, so the red in my hair is now barely noticeable. i got this process done 2 days ago so should i wait about a month to do it myself and use color removal first and then the dye like you did in this video again? would it still work?

Serafina Knight: How long does your red hair last? How often do you retouch it?

Badmoonrising: Love that look on you!!

Nancy: Doing this to my hair today !

Eva 👹👍: Hello! Hope your day has been well. Would this work with any colour dye (purple, yellow, pink etc;) or does it only work with the colour red?

Lacey Payne: This video is AMAZING! How did the dye lift the black that the color remover didn’t lift? I was planning to do color remover, bleach, then dye…but I’d much rather skip the bleach!

Kelly Burt: THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!! Other videos left me looking for more info you gave me it all I don't subscribe often but I got you lol TY

stephanie: how long should i wait before applying the color to my roots??

sofia: this was really helpful and youre really pretty !! thank u sm

Shayna Johnson: Does the red wash out for or do you have to wait until it grows up

Sakshi Shrestah: hey babe, i've followed the same process, and after few washes the vibrant hair has faded and now is more dark and I want to redye it to get the vibrant red again. should i repeat the same process of using 30 volume developer and hicolor highlights magenta or do I do smth else? please help

Rhane Effect TV: thanks for sharing sis! u rock!
