In this video, I'm going to show you how to go from this to this, with a little bit of this, we're going to be using the asset perm to curl hair. That is not already curly, I'm going to be using these two different perms, the apple acidic perm and the one-and-only perm. As you can see, the instructions are on the inside of the box. Please keep in mind the instructions say they are for professional use only. I will be following these instructions to a tee, be sure to note the processing time I'm going to be doing 25 minutes items needed are a large bowl, a tee pin or any other kind of pin or needle clarifying or chelating shampoo you'll be needing your perm Of course, as well as some protective gloves, a fine-tooth comb and some clips your rods or rollers and, of course, your hair, I will be using processed hair as well as some virgin hair. So we can see how the results may differ on the two different types of hair step: number one is going to be wash and roll first thing you want to do is wash the hair with your icky lating or clarifying shampoo and rinse. Then I'm going to take my fine-tooth comb and detangle the hair and I'm going to clip it to the edge of a flat surface just to hold the hair taut. While I am rolling it now, I'm going to be using different rollers, the first one I'm going to use is what we call flexi rods using the blue size. I just want to show you guys how the different size, rollers and different types of rollers and rods will work. So what I'm doing with the flexi rod, I'm wrapping the end of the hair, and then I roll it all the way up to the very top of the left, pulling taut and making sure the hair is smooth, then go ahead and curve the ends of the Flexi rod over to secure so the hair doesn't fall off. I'M going to do that with just a couple of more flexi rods, so we can see how those curls turn out. Next, I'm going to be using perm rods. Now I'm just going to show you guys. The different sizes of perm rods, these rods have the elastic ends with another plastic piece that slings over and clips into the top. You can see the different colors are all different sizes. Most of them are about the same length and I'm going to be using several different sizes in this video. So you can see how they come out. The first one I'm going to use is the mauve colored rod and that should give a loose body, curl or body wave. You see I've combed, the hair out, smoothed it and I'm just rolling from the ends up to the top of the left and securing it I'll. Also do a couple more of these. This swept that I'm doing, and this is the processed hair by the way, the web that I'm using now is hair that was processed to a relaxed texture, and it was also colored. So we can see how this one will turn out. The previous weft was processed to a relaxed texture and also processed to a wave these rods on this particular weft. I am twisting the hair first and then wrapping it around the rod or rolling it up to see if this is going to give us a different type of curl. Now I'm going to move on to the virgin hair. Now you see the hair that I'm using. It'S already curly, but it's not as curly as I want it. It has been heat damaged, so we're going to go ahead and wash with a clarifying shampoo and continue to ride the hair. So this hair - I am using gray rods and white rods, I'm using two different size rods, but they're still similar in size, I'm using the two different sizes so that the curl will not be too uniform. I don't want to curl that's too uniform, because I don't want the hair to look processed. I want the hair to still look virgin and I'm hoping that by me doing this on virgin hair that I'm going to get a better result. Now it's time to apply the perm for the process here, I'm applying the apple acid perm, which is for normal to and tinted hair up to 20 volume. I take my rods and put them in a bowl use the t pin to poke a hole in the at the waving lotion and then I apply the activator to the waving lotion, apply my gloves and shake them up. Now I'm going to apply this mixture to each rod, I want to saturate the hair on each rod really well make sure you don't use all of your solution on one side, because after we've saturated the rods really really well with this solution, we're going to go Ahead and flip the weft over and then begin saturating the other side of the rod or the rollers, you want to make sure you get them nice and saturated really really well, and you also want to go ahead and flip them over again. Andry saturate remember we're following the directions that are on the box, so we're going to saturate them really well take the bag that has come with a box with a perm and put the rods in there and clamp it close with a clip for this particular perm. We'Re going to process it with heat, I'm using a space heater now for the version here, I'm using the one and only perm. This is for normal tinted and resistant hair comes with a waving lotion and an activator and we're going to combine the activator with the waving lotion, shake it up, puncture a hole in the top of the tee, pin and begin applying our solution again saturating each rod. Flip it over a course and continue saturating. I have multiple web, so I'm going to go ahead and do one weft at a time and then I'm going to go back and of course, flip them over research. Your a swish them around in the bowl and put my rods and weft in the bag that came with a perm clamp it this one. You don't want to process with heat, then we're going to rinse for about three to five minutes continuously and towel blot. Each rod individually next we're going to neutralize now to neutralize. You only want to use half of the solution. Only half at this point in time, so we're going to apply half of the solution to each rod, we're going to make sure they are thoroughly saturated on both sides and after you've done that you should still have half of your solution. Left wait five minutes and we're going to do the same for the virgin hair using half of the neutralizing solution. After five minutes are up we're going to gently remove the rods from the left. You can see a little bit of how these curls on the processed hair come out. This is the first work that we did in the video you can kind of see how the different rollers gave different curls after taking the rods out. What we're going to do is take the remaining half of that neutralizing solution and we're going to apply the rest of it to the weft after we've taken the rods out and work it through you're going to work it through by squishing it into the hair scrunching. It just making sure short: it's work through thoroughly we're going to repeat the same process on the virgin hair gently, removing the rod, and you can see the girls that I've got with these rods, don't mind the orange rods. I thought I ran out of gray, so I used orange when I really didn't so I'm just removing the rods so that you can see the different curls that I'm getting on each different left. After removing all of the rods I'm going to go ahead and apply the rest of that neutralizing solution, you should still have half of it left and work it through by squishing and scrunching it into the hair. Usually, if you have any in the bottom of your bowl, you can swish it around in the bottom of the bowl as well. Next we're going to rinse the hair with rinse for about five minutes three to five minutes and then let it air dry. Now. This is the virgin hair right after air drying because of Prime you're not supposed to wash the hair or condition it for at least 48 hours. So you can see right after air drying the hair. This is what it looks like. I'M also going to show you the hair, what it looks like after deep conditioning it as well. You can see that the hair did retain all of its texture, a virgin hair kept this texture, which is why I wanted to use this particular hair. So I could have it curly and really textured and on the left is the curl pattern that I was initially trying to match it on the right as the hair that I perm as you can see, they look similar now right after air drying and y'all can See, I'm really loving this version here right now and also on the right is another wet I was trying to match, for the virgin hair and on the left is what I perm. They look fairly similar and again just showing you a little bit more of the Virgin West that I perm I actually perm. Quite a few of them. I'M trying to go for a really short curly with this summer. Now sorry about me, goofing around it. Let'S go ahead and move on to the processed hair. This is the first West that I did of the processed hair, the very first whip that we started with in the video, as you can see, right after air drying, which is immediately after the firm. This is what the hair looks like. The curls aren't too defined right now, we'll see if they get any more defined. Now the hair does look a little limp, but I will say that it actually does have a lot more body after doing the perm, and I don't know if you can tell from the video, but this hair retained all of its texture. It is still very textured, of course, relaxed texture here now. This is the hair that was processed to a relaxed texture as well as color, and, as you can see, this hair didn't come out too well, there's also the hair where we twisted the hair before rotting. Now the hair did maintain its texture and it does have a little more body, but, as you can see as of right now, the pattern is not all that great. So once again, here's the virgin, hair and the process here now I'm going to leave you all with some pictures of the hair after it was deep conditioned. The first set of photos is the virgin hair and on the left, is the hair pattern. I was trying to match here's all the hair together and now here's the processed hair, as you can see that first with the curls, are a little better after deep conditioning and I'm just showing you the different areas of the hair where we use different sized rods. So you can see how the curls came out a little different and some of them actually came out nicely and, as I mentioned before, this hair retained all of its texture. So you can't permit and not worry about losing the tie. Sure now this colored weft it retains its texture, but as you see, the pattern didn't come out too well.

Amber Campbell: Great video! Us Curly girls appreciate this. Just a tip... You will get a much nicer, consistent, curl if you do not remove rods before Neutralizing the perm. Remember you are Neutralizing the hair, not the previously applied chemical. Neutralize, rinse, then remove the rods post-rinse. You will achieve a more successful shape.

MissBossyLIVE: Yes! I am so happy it turned out well. Now I can do my summer look without having to buy new hair!

COCO Lve: Amazing you just saved me money on a full lace wig. It's always hard to find a curl pattern similar to mine now I can make it.

ADORE7373: love how you teach. Always professional but keeps it simple:)

Caitlyn Jones: When you perm straight extensions, how long do the curls stay vibrant and bouncy?

HairIstand: What a GREAT video !!! This is what some of these fly by night hair companies do to hair and then try to pass off as "Au Natural". Now you have exposed their secrets. Great informative video !

Traci: In my opinion, you have some of the BEST tutorials. This helped me out so much. Thank you for taking your time to show us ladies your tips. :)

SQ Lin: Amazing tutorial. Thank you so much!

Jo B: Thanks! EXACTLY what I was looking for! Very well done!

MissBossyLIVE: so glad I could help! As far as conditioning and maintenance, if the hair is high quality, you can go with simply doing regular deep conditioning treatments alternating between protein and moisture. if the quality is not the best, I'd do a deep conditioning treatment with Silicon Mix at least once per month

Giovanna De La Torre: This was really helpful ! Thank you . The only useful video I found about perms :)

James Hadfield: this is how i did mine :) awesome tips thankyou!

Anna Smith: Soo doing this on my wavy wig!!

MissBossyLIVE: I think it depends on the hair texture. Most use other chemicals to get looser curls like texturizers, cold wave/wave nuveau, etc

Piano Challenges: Thanks for the video :) Im currently relaxed but have recently become very interested in permed hair. You seem quite knowledgeable in perms, so wondered if you could help me with a few questions? 1. You mentioned in the video that the relaxed hair retained it's texture, but what type of hair did you use? For Eg, (going on the Andre Walker hair typing) relaxed 3 hair type or relaxed 4 hair type? Because i was curious if i did use the perm solution but the curls didn't take, would my hair just look like iv had a regular relaxer? 2. I am currently relaxed, and also wanted to know if you knew what might happen to my relaxed hair if I were to curly perm it, then revert back to a regular relaxer a few months down the line? Could this cause serious damage or is it safe? Thanks.

MissBossyLIVE: yep, but I left it out since it was an experiment and too time consuming. But on this type of hair I noticed it still came out well without end papers as long as I wrapped carefully. But thanks for mentioning it so others will know to use them :)

Adana Sam: I think it could possibly be the different perming solutions that you used on the various hair that gave you different results. The virgin hair really took the curl nicely though. Good job. Keep it up. I love your videos.

MissBossyLIVE: you can request it at any salon or do it yourself at home. You just need a good protein-based deep conditioner, such as Mizani Kerafuse or Joice K-pak

dimple76: Really informative. Never knew a perm worked like that. Now I see why they are called perm rods, u actually use them when doing a perm.

KaptainRogers: Thanks. i wanted to get a perm using the larger rollers. I know what it looks like :) very helpful

Mila speed: This takes me back to beauty school ;-) we did this the first couple of weeks in school

Amber Brumine: Your hair is beautiful i wish i have the guts to perm my hair like yours

ellen: this is the best tutorial i saw on this subject, you are amazing!

september181985: Genius, I wish I had seen this video before I tossed out my old virgin hair:(

hail storm: Your hair is beautiful! is there a perm that could look like yours? im in love!

mszeee: thank you soo much , you are a wealth of knowledge and I appreciate that you share this willingly with the world. Thank you

Noel1685: This was a great video! Love your channel!

Rachel Kpekpe: Dear MissBossyLive, I had just ordered some hair, Indian Brazilian and Peruvian but the curls were not all what I wanted and I already said to my clients that i have curly hair and i was wondering what to do when I stumbled across you video. Thank you so much for pouting this out there because you save me. Could you post some tips on conditioning and maintenance.

En Rya: Soooo Informative!!!! THANK YOU <3

MissBossyLIVE: if the hair is good quality and you use the same size rods then yes, it should turn out very similar

treyobsessed: Which rod size would you recommend to make 3b/3c curls?

MissBossyLIVE: I agree. I thought the Apple would work well since I've used it before, but on virgin hair. I may try the One & Only on some more light yaki I have to see if it works better

MissBossyLIVE: thanks. Since the perm is a chemical treatment, it should last indefinitely. I know it does work on natural straight hair, but I would consult with a licensed cosmetologist before proceeding with applying it to your hair

Sharleyne Margo: a very much needed video to educate most of my clients.. here in singapore most clients felt like hairdressers are magician.. so the color n would love to perm on d same day and when a hairdresser advice not to, they felt that the hairdresser is not a professional.. i loveee ur video and im so gonna share this video on my page!!!! thank u for an awesome video!!

MegaMeatballs123: Thankkkk you so much for doing this !!!

the Cupcake Sisters: How long will this last after being permed ??

A S: Could I use this on my relaxed hair? It's been about a month since I've had a relaxer put in. I want really tight curls.

MissBossyLIVE: You can boil it, but I don't like to boil. The heat can damage the threads in the weft and can make some hair limp. Many perms are formulated to help give the hair body and you can get the curl closer to the weft. Maybe try a test piece for both methods and see which works better on your hair

MissBossyLIVE: it's about the same amount of damage. Both processes denature the protein in the hair. Perming is just a little faster and smells bad lol

Lady L: Do you know if the curls will come back after straightening it with a flat ironing if you do this method? BTW... This is so cool!

Doxwifey1999: Bossy is the TRUE Hair GURU!!! #BowDown

blacklily624: I've noticed hair companies charge more for curly hair... shoooot i'm gonna buy the straight hair and perm it. Thanks Chica!!

A A: Could you get the same results if you use a regular straightening perm?

Darmstadt7: This video is the bomb! What size rods did you use for the curly jehri curl style? Also what size rods did you use on the jair you had in video?

MissBossyLIVE: I wouldn't use any chemicals on your damaged ends. The best option is to trim them away slowly over time until you are left with only your healthy curls

Kate A: Does it damage your hair?

CeeKay: I think this is a great tutorial but how long does the perm last? And also I have naturally asian hair which is fairly straight will this work for my hair?

MissBossyLIVE: I did, I used grey, orange, green, pink, mauve and the blue flexi rods. I think the type of solution I used may have played a part in it as well.

LaShae: Great video!!! You just gave me a new hair project for my old hair lol!!

Evony Thompson: Your hair on your head is beautiful! Did you perm that too?

HerHairIsSnatched: I mentally smelled the perm when you started putting the activating lotion on

TheTurlupine: My hair is also growing slowly, what do you recommend?

MissBossyLIVE: Not sure, I haven't tested that out yet. I'll be sure to update once I do :)

Jae Sparkles: can you name the products that you used for this video? :) im gonna do it!

efayse: GET YO LIFEEEEE!!!!! I loved it again thanks for teaching us something :)

MissBossyLIVE: you're welcome and thanks for watching :)

Loretta: You are an absolute genius!! Wow!

Cee Ivy: i saw this on the forum BUT you have the only vid thanks its worth a try my hair is 22 so i will use smaller rods i know the length will stretch out the curl THANK YOU

GTPrincess123: who's gonna go do a curly perm right freaking now... my ass..... a beauty store was selling a bunch of the one and only for $1... im going to work...

Measha Jensen: This is great!

Joi C.: Hi Miss Bossy! I was told to use an alkaline perm. I think I used Quantum??? Anyway, is there a specific reason you used an Acid perm?

MissBossyLIVE: I would not use this on hair that has already been chemically processed. It would further weaken your hair and possibly cause major breakage

Meeka V: Where did you get that closure ? The knots look great

Natasha Mosby: The processed hair actually looks good to me maybe a little better it reminds me of ripple wave

prettyfacebundles: Thank You So Much MissBossy!!!I I just bought some Virgin hair,,It was quite expensive and I want a Curly C pattern and I don't want spend more money,,If I can do it myself,,What do think about Boiling the hair to get the same result?

MissBossyLIVE: It should work, but I would do more research and/or consult with a licensed cosmetologist before trying it. To get a tight curl you would need to use a small enough rod and roll it properly

MissBossyLIVE: did you do it? How did it turn out?

MissBossyLIVE: thanks for the tips

MissBossyLIVE: you should definitely take it out of your head first. You should have a clarifying shampoo to make sure the hair is clean and the porosity is balanced

rbaskin: Oh and I just scrolled thorough your videos your one of my new favorite youtubers:)

T Adore: Can I try this with a relaxer?

eleisha26: The virgin hair came out to be the ish!!

tishacake mckay: would this work on hair that has slight heat damage?

MissBossyLIVE: yeah, I think steam may work better on certain processed textures

LoganMeridethNicole: Incorrect. While your video was REALLY helpful as I've never chemically altered my extensions on my own, this tidbit is false. The hair, once permed, is....well, permanent- IF done correctly. It chemically alters the hair. The only way to reverse it is to let your hair grow out and cut the curly bits off, or get a relaxer. I'm not trying to be rude, I just wanted to let you know as may people are unsure and confused by this. (Source: Two years of cosmo)

MissBossyLIVE: I would color it before perming. The color may loosen the curl if you do the perm first

curlyfro: If i curly permed a 18 inch weave how long would it be after i curled it?

Lady L: Ok thanks! You're the bomb!

MissBossyLIVE: Awww thank you :)

MissBossyLIVE: thanks. If you can find rods that size, then you can create a similar look

Tuamotu: Will this process lower the lustre of the hair? I bought hair that's too silky and I want to be closer to my relaxed 4c hair.

nastypuppie: thanks good video. i have some virgin hair but wanna do this or maybe boil it 1st. i never did either one cause i jus normally buy it already curly but i got the straight on sale at wagmans. the curly is always more expensive, even tho its virgin too. i like this perming method cause this will keep the pattern. but can u still color it? oh & i always do the experiments with the different rollers, twisting, etc. thats the fun part to me.

MissBossyLIVE: definitely try it. It just may save you some money (and hair)

MissBossyLIVE: definitely let me know when you do!

MissBossyLIVE: I wouldn't try it. Your hair will be over processed. You can try doing some protein treatments to rebuild your curl, but ultimately you'll have to allow your hair to grow out and trim off the damaged ends

MissBossyLIVE: my natural hair is naturally kinky curly. If you straighten your hair a lot, that is why it is not curling anymore. You will need to allow it to grow back out without putting heat on it

Vani Jay: It actually should. A perm is the opposite of a relaxer; Instead of curly to straight, you're going straight to curly, but both are permanent processes. Now if you do the boiling method, it doesn't, because it's only temporary

Erica Curry: Great video

MissBossyLIVE: You could, but I'm not experienced in using perms on natural hair. I'd go to a professional cosmetologist for a consultation

LadyLA01: Sorry to intrude but I just wanted to add some other tips since I'm a cosmetology student . First tip you never want to put a perm on your hair by yourself. Secondly you can perm curly hair but remember that if you already have curls it will alternat your curl pattern. But most importantly ask a professional what you should do before taking a big step when it comes to your hair.

LavishGlam ByLasha: On the processed hair I think it would've came out better if you would've used the grey perm rods. Just my opinion though. Thanks for sharing

MissBossyLIVE: This is not meant for kinky or curly hair, only for straight/wavy hair

Sadiyyah: what is that curl you have in your head? i love it all! get it mama! :)

MissBossyLIVE: thank you :)

MissBossyLIVE: thank you :)

antiona collins: I think u should try the boiling process works much better:)

Tamara Alvarez: Could i use this on my hair?? I just want curly hair i have straight/wavy hair , my texture is like a medium..im Puerto Rican&&white.

PurpleRedKisses1: What name brand is that perm luv the video :)

TheTurlupine: Protein treatment? Can I do that at any salon? Do you know how uch it costs?

MissBossyLIVE: on my way to look :)
