Comb Out Locs In 20 Minutes Without Cutting Your Hair {Loc Tutorial}

Today I will be sharing a loc tutorial on how to remove your locs without cutting your hair. Like some of you, I never knew that combing out locs was possible. I used to think the only way to end your loc journey was by cutting your locs; but that is not true. You can comb out your locs and have a lot of length retention of your natural hair.

In this video, you can expect to learn how you can comb out locs in 20 minutes without cutting your hair or damaging your hair, what you need to comb out your locs, how long it takes to comb out locs and how much hair you can expect to lose after combing out your locs; when ending your loc journey.

What'S good guys, it's your girl, Keisha RVL, and welcome back to my channel in today's video. I will be sharing with you how to safely comb out your locs without damaging your hair. So, let's get into it to safely remove your locs without damaging your hair. You will need some conditioner water, a pintail comb and an all-purpose styling comb. So let's begin working on one luck at a time. You first want to saturate your locks with water to soften your locked hair strands. Next apply a generous amount of conditioner to your locks. To add moisture back into your hair, because trying to detangle dry hair is quite painful and you will also lose a lot more hair. This way, once you've coated your locks, you want to use your pin tail comb to gently start unraveling your locks, starting from at the ends, depending on the ends of your locks, whether they are more blunted like mine. Well, it may require a little more effort to unravel. I find that the rounded or blanket tips take much more effort than the pointed tips well. This is from my personal experience. However, when you do run into areas where there are build-up, you want to be a little more gentle and, if required, add more water and conditioner to avoid whipping or damaging your hair strands. I would suggest using a cheaper conditioner rather than one of your favorite branded conditioner, as you will be using a lot and as long as you are gently and safely combing out your locks, then don't be too worried about the amount of here you lose when combing Out your locks, because these hairs are your shirt hairs that have shed over the months or years since you've been on your long journey, but once again be very gentle and combing out your locks, especially if your locks are thinner. When you want into areas where they are build up, because I know, when you run into these parts with build-up, it can't be a little bit. Frustrating your all-purpose styling comb will come in handy when combing out any shed hairs along the unlocking process as well as once. You have completed combing out below, bear in mind that Jaden's Lucknow measures nine inches. It took me roughly 20 to 25 minutes to unravel one lakh at a time, and this is the amount of hair he lost after combing out his first knot. So since Jaden's length check video, his hair had grown to more inches, but after combing out his locks. His loose natural hair measures 12 inches. I hope you guys found today's video very helpful and if you did then please be sure to like comment share and subscribe if you are not already subscribed so until next week, Sunday at 5 p.m. we will be right back here with another video

Rae Ojone: Thank you for this! My daughter came to me and said she didn’t want her locs anymore and it saddened me, but I came across your video and her locs take about 20-25 minutes each and her hair is 6 inches longer than the locs! Her hair is literally almost touching her butt. She has a looser curl pattern but the shrinkage is real! And was loc’d almost 2 years. Not much hair loss and very healthy hair. I appreciate you, your method worked well for us. I’ll remember this when I’m ready to take my own down!

Khadijih Gore: Hey guys! This will be my third time doing this and the best advice I can think of, is don't lose your patience. You might even want to consider taking them out in a flattering pattern so that you can still wear it in public halfway through the process. If you lose patience then you lose all your hard work of combing them out in the first place and you'll end up wishing that you had just cut them. The first time I did it, I lost my patience and my shoulder length dreads ended up being half an inch long it was a nightmare. So take your time and don't lose patience.

Darbria S. Moon: I have had my locs for almost 10 years, started in 2013 my junior year in high school.. After watching this video, I am determined to start my daughters locing process, and my detangling process for when it's time. Thank you so much!

Sharmetta Williams: I'm sure I watched this same video the last time I combed out my locs. Works very well:) Combing out another set today to restart again in October 2022 lol

Amari Nichols: I’ve had my dreads since 1st grade and I’m graduating high school in two days so me taking them out counts as my graduation present. The only thing is I would have to do it myself and I have around 138 dreads and the longest is 13 inches. Wish me luck! Update: I took it out my hair is longer than they were in dreads, I saved a lot of dreads and my mom didn’t talk to me for a good 3 weeks before she cane to terms with it.

Lorenz Dominique: This is very helpful. I have had loc extension installed for the past six months using the wrapping method but they're far too heavy. I have been considering instant locs as a replacement thanks to comments referring me to the method on one of my videos. This lets me know I can start down that journey and I have some wiggle room to change my mind. Great video.

Chin_Ellis: U made it seems so easy it all comes down to patience I see. My daughter started her journey 7 months now and she’s ready for it to be out. Tomorrow imma start taking them out for sure.

Terrance R: Wow this is a much easier process than I originally thought. Thanks for the help!

Aria Ayla: This was the first video I watched in order to learn how to unlock my son’s hair! Thank you So much! This is a literal life saver for us! ☺️

Cortes Turner: Thank u for this video! My 14 yr old son has been locked for 4yrs and now wants his dreads out. He came to me like I knew what to do lol so I came to youtube and found your video very helpful and straight to the point! I will be trying this on his hair this weekend and will update!

Shashanna Dunlap: Thank youuuu I’m restarting my parts I did on my own 3 years ago. Does it matter if it’s leave in or leave out cond?

Erica Williams: Thanks for this video. I’ve had locs for 11 years and I’m ready to comb them out. I know it’ll take longer because I can actually sit on my hair but I’m going to start. Hopefully, it’ll only take me a month to complete it

A. Richard: I've contemplated getting dreads for a long time. Didn't go through with it because I didn't want to cut my hair if I got tired if them. This video has given me confidence to try a style I've avoided for so long. Thank you

Jane M: You're a life saver. I want to take out my instant locs and was so sad that I'll have to cut them off. Thanks and I'll sure will be taking my time and a lot of patience too

Arabella McCullough: This made me so comfortable so when I do get dreads and take them out, I’d barely have to worry about the length, thanks!!

KY: this technique works amazing I started combing out my sisters locks yesterday and she retained so much length I didn't know locks shrink up that much it's just time consuming. Thank you for making this video!

RAY WILL: Didn’t know it was possible to unlock my hair. Hallelujah! Thank you!

Jayda Simmons: Thank you for this video I’m currently taking mine out and it’s been a drag! But your comb suggestion is def making it quicker

No rudes allowed: I’m so excited! My hairdresser said this is impossible because the dead hair will fall off and you can’t keep the length! What are your thoughts to what she says? I want to start some and do this after a year

Shanai St Bernard: I was seriously contemplating cutting my locs….but I think I’ll try this! Thanks!

She Izm: Thank you, my journey has be only six months and I was ready for a big chop but may I’ll try this just to do a length check

Psusennes Bey: Great video, i had some minor build up and started the process , so thanks for thia, i knew i was missing a step

Love.Britt_: Wow I just might loc up my hair now that I know I won’t have to cut it all off if I change my mind down the line.

Pretty LaShea: I'm redoing my son hair right now. And it's working.. Thanks girl keep doing ya thing

Juliene Wilkinson: Thanks so much! i have mixed hair and started my journey 5 months ago but now that i know more about how my hair responses, i realize my parts are too big. This video is encouraging me to know I can safely uncomb what I have so i can restart! yay!!

Herb J Nelson: This process takes about a week depending on how long your dreads are. It takes patients

Rukayyat Awwal Gambo: This was very helpful.. thank you

YoYo’s Journey: Love Yourself First: I needed this video! I want to start over with mine because the first time was a fail. I will go to a professional after I've taken them out!

Kaylee Sawuli: Thank you so much this helped

Lizzy: I have a bunch of lint towards the back of my locs and I’ve tried everything but it’s still there. I realized it was really embedded in my loc. I’m planning to comb out the locs with serious lint and then re-loc them afterwards. Unfortunately when I started my locs I wasn’t so much aware of products I should use and not use. A lady with locs helped me start my locs and she uses a certain beeswax product. Which was the worst mistake ever. I used it for several months before realizing it was a bad idea. I don’t want to cut the back of my locs, so I hope the method of combing out will help ❤

hippiegirlie 44: Yess!! thank you I’ve been wanting locs now but I thought I couldn’t untangle it. I heard it’s a lot of work to do but I think it will be okay

Darius Fowlkes: This worked so well!

XO ZOEZO: There is no way it took 20 mins to bomb out one alone when i first started it took damn near a hour. But being that my hair touched the middle of my back i could see how it didn’t take as long

Jabali Ronnie: How I'm I here ? Well, 10 months into locing and I wanna comb my loca out ! Thought of chopping them off but thanks to this video, I'll be combining them out !

Altaïr Pearce: I have smaller locs for about 12 years now and I cut them to my shoulder a few weeks ago and because I want to keep that length and just have it curly. Do you think it's better to cut it really short or take my time and work on each strand until it is all done?

True_Gift 23: Thank you for this video he has the same locking method my mom use Plaits, I didn’t even know I was going to loc my hair but my sister was like you might as well because my hair wasn’t growing any other way right now I currently have 34 locs in my hair but I want it to be at about 50 something I just go to the hairdresser to ask them to take this out though when I’m ready.

Mya Lore: i need to do this for my boyfriend cause he doesn’t wanna shave his head so i’m trying to surprise him, i work at a hair salon but we don’t do a lot of natural hair and my boyfriend has natural hair so i’m so lost, this helped me tremendously thank you so much for this

dgrahamdgraham: Thank u so much for this. I’m 8 months in with the 2 strand twist. My parts are too large and I’m considering sisterlocks. I have 4c hair and don’t care for the look at alll. May I please have your opinion? Did u have major thinning after removing yours? What’s your opinion of sisterlocks? Thank you in advance!

CEO 50: Definitely doing this. Had my dreads since 2015 but I'm ready to try something new.

Kardox Fabricanus: Decided to use artificial hair and braided it into my real hair and it looks cool. Am surprised it does kinda help the hair grow. Hoping to eventually not need artificial hair and also have it long enough to reach my knees.

Simply Mika: I am definitely going to try it. Thank you

TheWriterWalker: Thank you. Truck driver here, in a hotel at the Indiana-Michigan border because of a truck repair. Will fill my day by using your video to unlock my years-old locks. Thanks!

Jai Bie: I love those locs! Look at that beautiful hair either way! Glad to know that hair loss will be normal!

R J: Wow!! I am tried - locks are over 10 years OLD. Thanks. I have decided to cut off locks and stop at my new growth. Question ❓ What type of treatment should be provided to your hair after the locked hair is removed. Thanks

dominique w: My boyfriends locs were not taken care of correctly and they're very large, uneven and flat. And he was ready to start over but didn't want to burden anyone with taking his hair out, and was just going to cut. His hair means alot to him and I would've hated to see that I happen, I came across this video and it has helped a ton! It takes about an hour for loc for him because of how flat and large they are so it's a multiple day process. But I'm so thankful because now he can start over with all his new growth and treat them right. You're a savior with this video!

AYEitsjada: U don’t understand how much this helped me because I’m getting my locs out this weekend and my granny’s doing it for me

Healing Sounds: Very helpful imma do this later when I'm fed up with my dreadlocks

Evan: What method did you use for starter locs? I can see some sort of a pattern on the loc before you comb it out. I wonder if the starter lock method changes the end process

dexter sh...: Thank you so much ! Before i thought it was impossible

Myel Simmons: Awesome video! Is it possible to use this method on loc extensions you want to reuse as well?

Inderia Harvey: How long should one wait before perming their hair after pulling out their locks?

Roxana 🌿: Thanks for this video. In the back of my head my locs are thinning so I really want to comb them out and start over

Malakot Foster: My dreads are extremely tightly matted. Will this still work? My dreads are super dense and have been locked for 5 years. I want to try this because I can’t imagine cutting my hair!

Tatyana Harvey: Thank you very much for sharing your technique. What is the name of the conditioner that you used?

SonNakaru: after learning people that had locs for 3 years was able to calm their hair out it help me decide to start my loc journey last week. Which my sis said if I ever want them to be calm out she will help if that time comes

Tamara Magloire: Yessss it's very helpful cause am about to do that on my client. So thanks to that .

G TheBeatNik: So I’m gonna take down my 7 year old Locs that she had had for 4 years. The ends of her Locs are unraveling and always have since she started her Locs. hopefully this makes it easier. Thanks for the video, I’m a dad who has been responsible for my daughters Locs getting done since she started. Not go lie. Im terrified to do this!! but it’s too expensive to pay someone. Wish us luck

Kevin Long: Great video!!! I was just thinking of cutting my Locs because i only have 34 and the parts are too big. I wanted too start over and get more smaller ones. This will save alot of hair 4 years worth LOL.

Sydney Sturge: Considering this I have so much color damage though.. so I’ve also been thinking of just letting the roots grow and no retweet

ajah D: thank you so much i’m combing them out now but my fingers hurt so bad

Mojito: I have locs and I want to start mine over instead of combining mine. I’ve had them about 2 years and I’m definitely gonna try this tonight

Ftw: Now I can take my dreads out to see what I'd look like with waves and curls

Skyla S: The title was a bit misleading because it suggests that she completed the entire head in 20 minutes. But then in the video she said it took her 20 minutes to comb out each lock and it made more sense to me lol. I just got my hair locked yesterday. It came out very short which made me a little sad but I’m going to stay on my lock journey for a little while to see how they progress and when I’m ready to switch it up I’ll be using this method to take them out. Thank you ☺️

Doo Doo Fart: this is amazing when summer comes im combing out my locks but since mines are skinny im scared that i might loss a lot of hair

Noxolo Ntshangase: This is really going to test my patience , I’m so scared. I’ve had my locks for 12 years and I really need a change

Sable 711: The kids are always adorable and Jayden's locks or combed out Locs or so long!! You make it look so simple so can all locks be remove that way even if they were installed by a stylist?

Franchasca S Harvey: My hair naturally curly so I was able to take some apart by hand. The ones in the back will probably need detangler and leave in. I like locs, I'm just over them. I love crochet better

H3v V3n: It’s also good to use vinegar it helps breaks down the dirt easier

SimplyRenecia: Does this work to remove loc extensions also?

Štäsįa Clãrk: I knew there was a away for removing dreadlocks but didn’t know exactly how. My 5yr old son had his for almost 2years and don’t want them anymore because they have grown so much and is now shoulder length, it hurt my heart when he said he just wanted to cut his hair to get them out but I’m so relieved this was an option that works

kimmiiboo bernard: 20-25 min for 1 lock this is crazy !!! But I wanna lock my hair soooooo bad but I really don’t wanna chop it

Itsadorablezizi Events: Tysm for the heads up I’m thinking about getting rid of my locs since I miss my beautiful curls and now Ik wut to do

R: Amazing video thank you

Shari Nicole: The conditioner she used was xHC (xpel hair care) Hemp Conditioner

Burak: Does your hair eventually go back to your natural hair after washing? For example i have curls so will it go back to my curls and if so how long will it take?

Giggs Tshienda: Very helpful

~Libra Arbil: Thanks alot now I shall start the comb out

Dianne: i m thinking on trans from loc to natural - saw this and i love it - will try to do this myself - and / pay someone too

Official KeenanX: Can you still comb out locs if you have some loc bumps/ knots?

Nia Mitchel: So does this same method work if you want to remove instant locs?

Grace John: Could you also use a regular comb??

NaNa: So 20 mins on 1 loc, how long did the entire head took with your process? Looking to take mine out!

Shakira Mccaffity: Good job

phenwman: 20 minutes?!?!? I combed out just 1 of my daughter’s Locs last night and it took exactly 3 hours! She has 97!! I’m trying not to get discouraged....

Hadar Kadosh: Wow!! That’s great

Freda: What method was used to lock his hair? I'm about to get locs and the salons I've been to can only do interlocking. I'm afraid I won't be able to take it down later and it won't be as neat two strand twist locs

Braedyn23: Thank you so much

DOO DOO FART: Ok I combed my dreads out after 5 years and not bad I didn't lose length

Kinkycurlycoil: Nice. He retained his length

jermaine holton: Would i need to trim my hair after the process?

Be As A Rose Co: Thank you for posting!

Peridot: I'm currently combing mines out have 18 more to do but it's definitely time consuming

HippieChic96: Well shit fire. I’ll be shaving my head again

CallMeSupreme: Some of mine hard to undo I have lumps in my locs cause of my texture so I’ll need a deep conditioner and water with a sharp pick comb

Sadah Makshnada: Helpful

Sephoronce_ _: I got a question does it depend on how the Locs were made ?

Angela King: Does this work for instalocs as well?

Justin Thaing: How long did it take to comb out one loc?

Guevara: Does this also works for dreads made of straight hair?

Jorduan Griffin: Anyone know if I can do this with a metal comb or is a rat tail comb best? I want to retain maximum hair
