Hey everyone. Thank you so much for being here today. My name is Denise, I'm also known as Hey wig's sister on Instagram and Facebook. Today, I'd like to answer a frequently Asked question, and maybe do a little bit of myth. Busting question is: will Wigs cause my hair to fall out the answer to that question? Maybe is coming up, so if you want to know more about this, stick around so how's that for a teaser okay. So let's get right into this. I don't want to spend a ton of time talking about this topic. I think it's a pretty straightforward conversation. The first thing I want to say, though, is a bit of a disclaimer. Most questions that are asked in the wig wearing Journey have multiple answers or a uh. It depends type of answer because we're all such different people. We have such individual stories. Individual preferences, individual circumstances, individual conditions, individual needs, individual individuals, you kind of get that theme. So it's really hard to give someone a straightforward answer to a question without knowing a lot more information. I get asked questions every single day. Many times a day. Do people reach out to me either in a comment on a video or on by email on Instagram, wherever it might be, and I am asked questions most of the time. I really can't answer the question because I don't have enough information. So in this case, let's talk about some of the information needed to really give a good, thoughtful, accurate answer. First of all, what medical condition you have that is causing your hair loss in the first place could be potentially exacerbated by wearing things on your head. Now I'm not a medical doctor, I don't know every single condition out there that can cause hair loss, but I can imagine that there are some conditions out there, where the having any kind of pressure or friction on your scalp could be a challenge. I would say: for the majority of people: a wig is not going to cause hair loss. It'S not going to increase your hair loss here is why I think that let's take the wig I have on my head as an example. Right now, this wig is putting really very little pressure on my hair line up in front. It'S just sort of sitting on here. It'S not pulling it's not tugging. The ear Tabs are sitting on my hairline just a little bit but again they're just sort of sitting. There there's not undue pressure on my sides here from the weight cap. Similarly, on the back here, the back of the wig cap, so the bottom of the wig cap is putting a little bit of pressure, creating just the tiniest little bit of friction on my hair right at the nape of my neck. But first of all, I've been wearing wigs for four years. I do not see any extra hair loss in those areas at all, and I don't feel as though it's going to cause any problems now, if you have a condition where you find you have hair loss from wearing hats, and things like that, it could potentially be That putting a wig on your scalp would create the friction or pressure that could exacerbate your condition. So that's something you really want to explore if you're concerned about this, but for the average everyday wig wearer here are some things that you can do to mitigate any extra friction or pressure that you feel along the hairline. The first thing you can do is you can adhere your wig. My two favorite things currently to adhere the front of my wig. Are it stays it's a roll-on adhesive, an oven spray. I have reviews of both of these out there. I will link them in the description for you. The reason why let me take my wig off for you guys. This is a human hair, wig um, One of a Kind wig from lose wigs by the way I've talked about it in other videos. The reason why I like to adhere my wig is because I find my head gets a little bit itchy when I wear wigs, and I think it's because when I don't adhere my wig, it's shifting around just even microscopically just a little bit here and there can Cause some itching on my scalp, especially now that my hair has grown out when I was buzzing, my hair, I didn't have that issue at all, but I'm having that issue again now. So I find when I hear my wigs, they don't shift around. The itching goes away likewise, if you adhere your wigs, then your wig isn't going to be shifting around in those pressure point areas if you're concerned, but you guys you can see. I mean I've got my hair loss is up here. I don't have hair loss down here. Really, I've got thin fine hair, I always have, but I don't have hair loss down here and I've been wearing wigs pretty much daily for four years that you would think. If that were going to cause hair loss, you would see some likewise. I don't really have too much trouble with hair on the sides here. You can see it's a mess right now, but I haven't seen any hair loss there. So I really believe, if you don't have a condition that is unique, very unique, very rare. I don't think a wig is going to cause you to lose your hair, but putting some adhesive on the very front will help keep that wig in place. Keep it from shifting around and creating any extra friction. Now, if you do that, please keep in mind how you remove your wig with the adhesive will either neutrally impact your hair or it could negatively impact the front of your hairline. I hate I hear sometimes of women in the black community, the African-American Community, the community of color that are so great at wearing wigs and they've been wearing wigs forever and ever and it's a normal thing for them. You'Ll hear them sometimes talk about protect your edges, so a lot of times if somebody wears a wig and they adhere it with super heavy duty adhesive that they plan to keep on for a couple of days, if you're, not very careful and very gentle when you Take that off, you could pull on your hair. So let's say, if he's adhesive on here, I don't fully release the adhesive when I go to pull my wig up, I'm pulling on my hair like that that can cause what's called traction alopecia, which we will talk about, because I have a Topper to show you Because these can cause hair loss, and so you want to be careful when you remove your wig, if you use adhesive again, I have been wearing wigs almost daily for four years for a good three years of that I adhered my wig every time I wore it. Now I don't always depending on the situation, but I did not get any extra hair loss that I didn't already have up here in the front, because I make sure that I fully released the adhesive before I pull the wig off and the reason I do that Isn'T really to protect my hairline, because I really don't care about my hairline at this point: it's to protect the lace on my wig. So if you pull on it and it's not released you're stretching and potentially tearing your lace. So there is a very good reason to make sure your adhesive is released. I don't believe if you fully release your adhesive and do zero pulling of your hair. I really believe this will not cause hair loss either. It'S what causes the hair loss is pressure and damage to the hair follicles. So some you'll hear sometimes men who wear baseball caps all the time, maybe thinking they're, getting a little hair loss in the front from their baseball cap, it's hard to say for sure. But what I do notice is sometimes when people wear baseball caps, they wear them very tightly because they don't want it to accidentally blow off. So if you've got the baseball Rim, putting tons of pressure on your hairline and you're wearing it way tighter than we actually wear our wigs that could cause potentially some traction, alopecia type hair loss. I don't believe wigs will do that, though another thing that some people do is they wear a wig grip and they put a wig grip on to help secure their wig again. These are so soft and they're slightly stretchy, so I don't believe wearing a wig grip on your head here. Unless you have a unique condition, is going to cause you to lose your hair, it's just not putting enough pressure on that part of your head, even if you're wearing it for 10 12 hours a day. I just don't see it happening and you guys I've asked lots and lots of people. This question every person I've asked has agreed with me. So this isn't just my opinion. I got ta let a dog in the house hold on for a second. So let's talk about Toppers, because Toppers are a unique situation and I do believe that if you're not careful, Toppers can cause hair loss. So this is a Topper in case you're not familiar. A Topper is like a top piece and it's meant to go on the top of your head so that if you've got hair loss on the top, but you have bio hair, you can put a Topper on to cover up where you have hair loss blend it. In with the rest of your hair, then you don't have to wear a full wig now Toppers generally, there are some that don't, but Toppers generally come with these pressure Clips. So this is a clip, so big snap in to close and snap to open. So this particular topper has four Clips: it's a smaller topper and so the the way that you would wear this is and I'm going to do a video on Topper. So I'm collecting Toppers right now from wig sisters who are willing to donate them to me so that I can show lots of different styles and help you, if you're watching my videos but you're not ready for wigs, yet maybe you're ready for Toppers but anyway. So, that's why I have this one. I don't wear Toppers, but what you do is you take the clip and you clip it into your bio hair and then you snap it shut. I'M not good at this because I don't do it and then that way it will stay on your head, but - and I never could wear Toppers number one, because my hair is so fine. But my scalp is so Ultra sensitive that these clips hurt my scalp really badly, but even brushing my hair has hurt my head since I was little so that's may not be you, but anyway this puts pressure on that part of your hair and it actually is Tight enough and pulls on the hair enough that if you were to wear a Topper every day, the same topper clipped in the exact same spot, you may start to see some hair loss there. It'S called traction alopecia and it's common in people who wear toppers. So, while wigs, I don't believe if you wear them properly, are going to cause hair loss. Toppers may now. What do you do about it? Let'S say you're not ready to wear a wig, but you don't want to cause more hair loss. Well number one. I would get as big of a Topper as you can um and add Clips to it and then alternate the clips that you use, so you can, for example, this isn't a very big piece. So there's not a lot of room on here to add, but let's just say I added a clip right here. Maybe sometimes I would use this clip and maybe sometimes I would use this clip or um. You can add a band if you have a big enough. Topper, you can add a band to it. To give you a little bit more security just like they sometimes add bands to the underside of a wig, and then maybe you don't have to use as many clips. Maybe you can get a they make um wig grips. I don't have one, but they make wig grips where the top part is the wig grip and the bottom part is just a thin string, and so you could put the wig grip on so that you've got your wig grip top to hold your topper so picture. This this is the wig grip. It'S probably about this big and then the rest of this is a string that you tuck, underneath your hair, which I could never do, even if it was a thin string. But let's just pretend you tuck it underneath your hair and then you can put your topper on now. A little topper like this probably won't work, but a bigger topper might so then you can have it held on by maybe even use the clip somehow on the topper and then you can protect your head. So, let's summon sum this up do Wigs cause hair loss. I would say for the vast majority of wig wears, the answer is no, that does. I do not believe that Wigs cause hair loss. I do think there are exceptions to that. I do think there could be situations where it might exacerbate hair loss. I think you can wear wigs in such a way that it could cause such as adding clips into your wig wearing wigs. That are, you know, maybe inappropriately sized for your head and way way too tight, so they're putting a lot of pressure on certain parts of your head, um and then using adhesive in properly and not removing it fully before you remove your wig, thereby pulling on the Hairline causing traction type alopecia, so I think if you are currently looking into wigs, I'm not sure if I got this on right now that my hair is growing out, I'm struggling with my wigs, I'm really thinking about cutting buzzing, it all off again um if you're Looking at these videos, you're not sure you're not wearing wigs yet, but you think you're headed in that direction. You'Re looking for some solutions to hide your hair loss, please don't let yourself be scared by some of the misinformation out there. On this topic. I'Ve had women. Tell me that their dermatologist or hair loss specialist that they were seeing, told them that wigs will cause their hair loss to become worse. I don't know where that kind of information is coming from, but it makes me really angry because um when people share information, that's not it's well researched or experienced, it can really hurt people, and I believe there are some people out. There purposely giving misinformation to sell products if someone's bread and butter is selling you, hair, regrowth, serum and pills and vitamins and things to grow your hair back. The last thing they want you to do is start wearing wigs because most of the women that I know once they get used to wearing wigs, they start to figure it out. They know what looks good on them and all of that there's no going back. Most women, I know who are enjoying the wig Journey, would never stop wearing wigs, even if their hair grew back. That'S some lost business for someone I hate to be jaded that way, but I just see it too much and it really upsets me because there are women out there really hurting who need good information who need support and don't need someone to mislead them. For selfish reasons, anyway, that's my soapbox, that's enough of this. I hope this helped you if you were wondering about this, if you have a different opinion, please share it in the in the comments. If you have a different experience, please share it in the comments. I'M not a doctor, I am a wig sister. Who'S been wearing wigs for four years, who's been losing her hair for over 20.. I have a reasonable level of intelligence. I pay attention to what people say. I'M I ask questions all the time, so I feel really confident that what the advice that I'm giving here is reasonable and generalized to the general population, I always know that there are going to be outliers, there's always going to be a different experience, but I think For the vast majority of people wearing wigs should not add to your Stress and Anxiety over hair loss. I think it's a great solution, a difficult one at times a challenging one in the beginning, but one that can help you get your confidence back. It'S done that for me, and it's done it for hundreds and thousands of women, so many of whom I personally have had interactions with in the four years. I'Ve been doing this, let me know if you guys have any questions. I hope this helped you I'm always open to feedback, though thanks for watching you guys, I will talk to you soon.

Terri Simonsson: Hi I wouldn't nec. disagree with you on this matter but As a wig wearer with very brittle bio hair, I have noticed that my hair is much more broken off &/or missing due to wearning Wigs & Wig Grips. However, also I believe it's the medicines I take that cause the Brittleness which encourages the breakage/hair loss (especially around the front hairline. Thanks for a another great video ❤

Debbie Conrad: I've been wearing wigs for 2 years. I don't see hair loss, but I definitely have breakage in the areas under my wig grip. I haven't had any hair growth along my front hairline since I started wearing wigs.

Kimberley Coombs: Beautiful and so encouraging, Denice! My husband was just asking me about this, so thank you! Perfect timing!

D Murphy: This wig also looks great on you. I previously stated that the short bobs made you look better. I've decided that it's the straighter looking wigs that look good on you. It's the fuller, fluffier, curlier wigs that I think don't suit you. Obviously my opinion, but my opinions usually pretty accurate.

Charlotte Forrester: Love the wig and those beautiful earrings! Love the blouse too. I’ve worn toppers and like them. I’m just starting my wig journey. My hair has thinned on top and sides. Plenty of Hair in the back. I really like the wigs . You are so knowledgeable an I appreciate you sharing your experiences.❤️❤️❤️❤️

Mint: Hi Denise, a well balanced and informative presentation. I’ve wondered about this and am glad you addressed the question. Love, Sharon ❤xo

Misty Water: I think you are fantastic. I'm learning a lot. I'm a new wig wearing person and I don't get the advice I get from you. I appreciate it

Vivian Polner: Denise I have the same hair loss pattern as you. I have lots of thick hair in the back of my head. I’ve been wearing toppers for years. I do wear full wigs from time to time getting used to them. The hair on the sides of my head have thinned so in the very near future I will have to wear full wigs all the time. It’s a challenge because I get so hot. Do you think it more comfortable to keep your hair real short in the back? I’m not ready to shave it all off. You always are so encouraging and have very helpful advice. God bless you!

Janis Huey: You gave the best tips I’ve heard about how to protect your hair with toppers. Thank you! Very good content!

Aimee: That's the most gorgeous wig I've seen you wear yet, Denise! ~WOW!~ It looks like the hair is growing right out of your scalp. I'm definitely going to buy a Lu's wig.

patricia bryant: I love your Lu's hair on you. Your eyes are stunning today!!!

Elaine: You look gorgeous in that wig, really suits you ❤️

Patti Emanuel: Hi Denis ! I love that HH wig on you ! I agree 100 % with all you said.

Gloria Jean Shaby: You look just beautiful! This is the very best wig I have ever seen you wear. The color is wonderful on you. You are lovely inside and out! Thank you for all your knowledge and encouragement. You have helped me more than you know! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Clara: I definitely agree with you Denise good video for us all

Kat Pham: I have 1 topper and 2 wigs so far, and I don't plan to buy another topper. It tends to pull the hair, but it is good for summer wear.

Michelle Diekman: Great info to get out there. You look Beautiful! I Hope your doing Better. Hugs

Karen Woodall: I absolutely love that wig on you. You look beautiful

Judy Grayson: I love my topper. I wear a short bob I have hair loss on the top. I wear the Estetica mono wiglet 36/LF. Used to wear 6/10 but wanted to grow my color out and go gray but I am not fully gray so I got the 38 color which matches my hair perfect. I think it says 25 percent gray. The topper is the largest coverage on the top of any of the companies. It says and looks curly if I remember correctly but have been wearing this for 4 or more yrs and once you wash it I feel it really smooths out. A few more washings and wearing it, mine is like almost straight. Thanks for all the information! Judy

Patti MacLaughlin: The most hair loss I have, the more my head gets sunburned. So wigs don’t make me lose hair, but the sun does!!!

Judy's Ink Pad: The wig you are wearing is STUNNING on you. So very flattering!

helpfulnhappy: Hi Denise! I was just wondering if you have looked at the email I sent you two weeks ago? You had asked for video recommendations, and I answered the call and emailed you 9 video ideas and one of them would create many videos too. (I did receive your automated response, but I hope you look at my email since I was trying to help you.) Hope you have a great weekend!

Darlene Gera: I always heard wearing hats caused hair loss, I think that is where the comparison to wigs and hair loss come together

glasshalffull: Denise! That is the BEST color on you EVER!!!

Debbie Hall: Wonderful video. I feel your sincere passion.

Angela McClain: You look especially beautiful today ❣️

C W: What do you use to release the wig? Isn't there a product to help that?

Lo Presti: i have alot of bio hair n i been wearing wigs for many many years.

Vivian Polner: Oh, I meant to tell you how beautiful your eyes are. Love your make up!

Karen Fiddy: Your the best ❤

Susan Pearce: Love the wig you are wearing here, it is human hair???

Donna Q: I think the hair in the forehead area is permanently smooched back, lol.

Sharon D'Amico: That is so true. I would NEVER go back to bio hair. Wigs are easy and fun. It IS a process but youtubes like yours help to move the process along. Like everything else, we learn as we go. Thanks Denise. Another great video. P.S. there is a very popular blonde youtuber out there who has a zillion wigs. In no way do my wigs EVER look like hers, especially on color so there again, I learned. If anyone suffers hair loss, try wigs!!! You will wish you did sooner!!!!

Di Hinegardner: Hi Denise, what are your thought on the "Hair grip"?❤

Rebecca Rambo: my hair flourishes under my wigs
