We talk about vitamin D deficiency, especially in black women iron, but no one talks about vitamins, hey YouTube. What'S going on super excited for this video, if you are new to my channel, welcome to my channel, I am so glad you are here. I'M a cosmetic chemist specializing in natural hair care and the creator of this amazing Channel called Curly chemistry. Where I help you guys understand your hair and ingredients from a cosmetic chemist perspective, and I also hope you guys start Hair Care lines as well, and today I am sharing three things. Your hair cannot get enough of. Okay, our hair can't get enough of water. It can get enough of protein and it can get enough of products too, but the three things I'm sharing your hair cannot get enough of okay. So let's get started. Okay number one! Our hair cannot get enough of protective styling protective styling has so many benefits too, and it is honestly a one for our hair. Some of the benefits include less manipulation, less breakage increase, hair grow health and it's easier on you because you get to wake up and do nothing to your hair unless you're with your edges and stuff like that, but outside of that is very, very low maintenance. Some great protective styling can be passion, twists, lace, front, wigs, half, wigs headband, wigs braids. All of these things can be great protective styling for you now with that being said, of course, let's go into the things to look out for, because I have a few rule of thumbs when it comes to you know, wearing protective style number one. I do not recommend going longer than four or five weeks because your scalp needs to be cleansed. We cannot go weeks and weeks and weeks without cleansing ourselves, there's going to be excessive buildup of product oil, dirt bacteria sweat. All of that can mess up your scalp pH, leading to scalp issues. Okay, so you don't want that. That'S number one number two: I recommend doing a deep conditioner or a protein treatment prior to the installation of your protective style, and I just kind gon na boost up your hair defense mechanism so that it can be thriving even in that protective style. That'S number two number three for scalp care. During the protective styling a lot of times, women will have dry, flaky scalps. During that time you can easily purchase a stout serum. I talk about the patent South serum all the time because it's so hydrating and you can use that if you have a dry scalp and follow up with the oil on top of that to lock in that moisture. So little techniques like that can help your scalp Thrive during your protective styling and last but not least, I would say, is whoever is doing the style, whether that's a stylist or you doing the style. Please do not do it super tight, because the last thing you want to do is cause any type of trauma to the scalp or your hair. You know that there's trauma when you start seeing like little bumps around the edges of the the braid or the twist or whatever you're getting okay number two, our hair cannot get enough of good nutrition and good nutrition is not talked about enough. In my opinion, in the natural hair care, healthy, Hair Care Community, but it is essential for our hair, especially omega-3 and omega-3, is involved with the synthesis, the makeup of our hair. It can promote healthy hair, it can promote softness and shine. It does an amazing job with partnering with you on your healthy hair care Journey. You can get this from salmon and different types of nuts, but I love taking omega-3 capsules. You know Omega-3 supplements number two B vitamins, so I actually just found out recently that I am deficient in a few B vitamins who wouldn't know who wouldn't know we talk about vitamin D deficiency, especially in black women iron, but no one talks about vitamin B deficiency. So getting a good B, complex, vitamin b supplement will be essential for once again that healthier hair and, as you guys know, biotin is off the part of that vitamin B complex, and this is essential for growing hair, healthy growing, hair. Last but not least having a limitation on processed and fried foods. You guys know that inflammation plays a huge role when it comes to hair loss. So if you can limit the amount of processed and high inflammatory food in your diet, you're going to see a huge change in your hair, your body, your skin, is going to do some amazing work externally, but also internally as well, okay and number three. The last thing your hair cannot get enough of is TLC, and I'm not talking about the music group, I'm talking about tender, love and care. Okay, I want you guys to really treat your hair like an expensive fabric, some silk, some satin, okay like oh! No, I can't do no. We must do that too. You know what I'm gon na say like treat it like an expensive fabric. Number one don't be afraid to deep condition, your hair on a weekly basis. It is absolutely okay. I know we thought we had to just do it once a month, but no you don't have to you want to do it once a week once every two weeks, whatever do what your hair needs and if you know if it needs that extra um, that extra Moisture girl, deep condition your hair once a week if you need to okay number, two: invest in a steam treatment a lot of times when I do like my lives on YouTube and Instagram, I always get asked a dry question. My hair is super dry. It'S brittle! What can I do to make it more moisturized? One of the things I always say is the best in a hair steamer, because hair steam, the water, the moisture encompassing the scalp and the hair is absolutely phenomenal and you'll see a huge change in the moisture of your strands and also moisture retention. That'Ll be super helpful in not only reducing dryness but also reducing breakage as well. Also gentle detangling, I'm loving to detangle my hair prior to getting into the shower, or my wash day. My wash day is Flowing so effortlessly because I'm intently detangling my hair prior to and a lot of time I'll do is with my pre-poo as well, because that extra slippage makes it easy for the comb to guide through and then the last bit of TLC. I will say is get in the habit of doing scalp massages at least three or four times a week, just like we have like our skin routines at night. Scalp massages, if healthy, hair and hair growth is a goal for you, I would recommend getting like a electric scalp massager, which I have in my Amazon store. I'Ll put the link below or you can use your fingers whatever works best for you, but doing that would be a great tender, loving care and treatment for your hair. Alright, guys hope you have enjoyed this video video and learn something new. Curly Chemistry: Hey Curlfriends! Thank you for watching and sharing this week's video! Here's the link: https://curlychemistry.com/product/flashcards/

Mia: I absolutely adore your channel. You were suggested to me by my son's therapist, and I can't stop watching. You have significantly altered my hair. I have so many notes.

Jeannette Guess: I learned last year that I needed to treat my hair better by keeping it healthy. What I’ve taken into the new year, is watching your videos too stay educated about proper hair care. Thank you.

janice wright: Omg. I have learned so much from you in these last few months. It’s hard do pinpoint one thing to carryover. I’m gonna have to state 2 things . Prepoo and oil rinsing. Gamechanger Oh and the TresLife gel did flake with me. I spoke with a TresLife rep and I found out that I should be using a lot more water than I was using. So now I’m using it on soaking wet hair and no longer have an issue with flaking. Wash and go’s are popping!

Brenda Geater: Happy Friday Tonya thanks for the encouragement, I've been following you for over a year & my hair is thriving, thanks to your videos

Nad Wil: Thank you sis! I love your videos, I've been binge watching them for the past week. I can't wait to purchase your flash cards!

Fran J: I love your videos. I’m retired and have been wearing my hair in braids. In the morning, I started misting my hair with water or a tea rinse, applying a leave-in, then massaging my scalp with oil in November & there has been a significant change in my hair… it is less dry, and is holding moisture and shine better

Here for It: My problem with the term “protective styling” is the general consensus it means using added hair: wigs, weaves, feed-in braids and twists, etc. My hair is in a “protective style” 99.9% of the time, but I don’t use added hair. I’ve been on my hair journey since 2016 and haven’t worn braids (or twists) with added hair since 2012 and have only done so four times in my life. I bought a non-lace wig in December 2022 that has bangs and doesn’t require glue and so far have only worn it once. That said, for me and many others, protective styling is with my own hair. These styles can last anywhere from three days to two weeks. My hair has thrived without using added hair. Since my journey began, my hair feels denser, healthier, and I have *definitely* retained more length than I ever thought possible.

April: HelloGreat tips! Recently I incorporated omega into my daily vitamin regimen. Mainly for my heart health and better health overall. All of the tips you suggest I actually do. I am now in protective mode with box braids and my hair seems dryer than when not in protective mode. So what I do while moisturizing is bring out my hand held steamer which opens up my cuticles and I apply the products to my scalp and hair while steaming to insure I'm getting the most out of my moisture sessions. Because I don't add product every day as to avoid build up, I do the green house affect with water only two or three nights a week and that activates the product on the hair. I believe my eating habits/lifestyle scalp massages, deep conditioning and a hair steamer are my saving grace as far as my hairs health is concerned. Last year I decided to do away with combs and I see less thinning and breakage. What do you think about adults using haircare products and vise-versa, what are the differences between the two and why or why not?

Venessa Philips: The one thing that I have learnt last year about my hair is that it doesnt love thick creamy products but instead loves heavy water based products. So I started sticking to those for this new year.

154angel154: My hair benefits GREATLY from PS! I wash every seven to ten days and the BEST part is that my PS consists of 4 braids (two front pinned back and the two back pinned across). I wash my hair every 7 yo 10 days and my hair thanks me. It is fine (low-med density) and it detangles very easily!!!

MyNaturalMyChoice: Great video! love the advice and I definitely learned a few things from you! The # 1 Thing I learned about my hair last year???? My hair loves protein! I do a protein treatment 1x a month . Thank you for always sharing amazing , educational information on hair/scalp care.

T Johnson: After my dad passed, I got my first braid install and loved it. I was able to maintain a healthy scalp while my hair was in the braids by shampooing bi-weekly, massaging my scalp and hot oil treatments. After taking them out, my hair was very manageable and it appears I kept the length. 2nd install 6 weeks later and am preparing to remove them because I miss my hair . So, more protective styles for me.

Wendy Hill: I learned how important it is to think of my scalp as it's own environment separate from my hair itself.

MissBrendaLee Gertman: Last year, I learned last year that it is important to maintain consistency with my moisture cycle this year.

Ebony Brown: Yes!!!! Now that I use the steam treatment machine to deep condition my hair every two weeks it’s soooo soft and manageable now!!! ☺️❤️

Jeannine Gorden: The way my hair is set up, prepoo and detangling before I step in the shower for a shampoo is non negotiable!

Janice Beneke: I've learnt that protective styles helped alot, but to keep the protective style moisturized during the week. And to tuck my ends away helped to keep my hair moisturized for longer and avoid breakage. Thank you for your video

Jada Robinson: Penetration oils vs. protection oils is a beg game changer for me. As a professional hairdresser, I was shocked about the things that was not in our text books. Ex. Babassu oil is a great replacement for coconut oil. I use this oil before I dampen my hair and skin. It even aids in cleaning the skin on a deeper level. I use grape seed to seal my ends. High porosity with fine strands. Curl pattern ranges from 3B-4B. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. I am also doing research on Afro hair routines. Ex. How much oil should one a person use? How much oil is too much oil? What are the different butters that exist, and how big are they on a molecular scale?

sharon gross: The purchasing and use of a hair steamer every two weeks. My hair has naturally been so soft & moisturized.

Tashaneal Walcott: I've learnt a lot from you... Especially in moisturizing my hair and then lock it with a good oil

Jeannine Gorden: I am on WK 3 of a protective styling {butterfly locs}. I did a clay wash and protein treatment with a moisturizing DC before my install.

Anne El: Using clays and having good hydrating and moisturizing shampoos have helped my hair tremendously

Gloria Garner: I learn last year the benefits of pre pooing. Doing this even if I can only do it for 30min instead of my hour..it makes the biggest difference with my hair., the biggest game changer that I will never stop doing. I am now going to do the hair streamer, thank you for this tip.

Here for It: I have a friend who for years has been a traditional every-two-weeks press-and-curl salon goer. I don’t know if it matters, but her stylist uses a traditional thermal pressing comb on her hair and not an electric flat iron. My friend’s hair was gradually getting shorter over time. I advised her to start using oils and taking breaks from heat styling. At the onset of the pandemic, she was forced to stay out of the salon. She found a braider and for about two years was getting box braids. She also began oiling her scalp regularly. Her hair grew a LOT. So for her, protective styling with added hair worked wonders!

Adriana De Marco: Scalp massaging before sleep. It did bring maneagibility and shine to my hair.

HrhSophia TheFirst: I learnt last year to keep my hair off of my clothes, wear a hat with satin liner and always always travel with my satin scarf.

Tahesha M.: Be consistent with taking my vitamins and cutting my ends✌

Cheryl Sherrard: I learned that using green tea instead of H20 along with carrier , essential oils and aloe vera juice in my spray bottle has reduced shedding alot definitely will continue this into 2023 and putting amla and moringa powder in my smoothies has helped alot will continue to do that as well

Emeth: I learned that my hair loves tea. I will definitely be doing those this year.

Melita: Soo I have heard about pre-pooing for years! But I Just didn’t feel like putting the energy and I’m able to retain my length. BUT since I started doing it. I’m retaining even more and I plan to keep it up.

ElegantPaws01: My hair game shifted when I deep conditioned every week. Going to get the steamer this week.

Sable 711: I've learned I have few to no single strand knots if I stretch my hair with my new revair reverse air hair dryer. Before getting that I had not used heat on my hair since 2016.

Sheryn Ngofa: Loose buns are my favorite protective style. I don’t want braids or wigs.

Melvina Sampson: Liquid B12 is always in my residence. Biotin is another, Horsetail and now Neem Leaves.

Jass: Could u do a video on hard water damage? Recently been coming to realize that my hair was slowly falling out overtime bc of the hard water on my campus. Not sure what to do to help my hair at this point

Dawn AKA Pookie: TFS ❤ I'm not sure I learned anything. I can't seem to get lightening to strike twice. Smh

Helen Abraha: Hey! Can you make a video on what texture releases do to your hair?

D xxoo7: Thank You so much. Surfactant cleansers along with creamy cleansers a must for not having itchy scalp.

Here for It: One thing my hair (my fibers, not my scalp) cannot have too much of is oil. For me, oil cannot be overdone.

Keondra Duncan: Doing more DIYs I save so much more money when I can make my own products & they work the same, if not BETTER!

Weird Myst: Washing my hair every 2 weeks was a lot and pricey, washing it once a month is fine, washing it everytime I remember would be too much. My scalp itches so bad I have to wash it, it's how I know it's clean or dirty. The dirt and loads of shed hair on there would drive me crazy

Vanessa Mannings: You didn't mention drinking water. Our hair needs that so much.

Jo Green: Hi and thank you for another great video

Uzeni Chupa: What do you think about the aussie scalp serum? Can u do a video on Bond builders? I have used olaplex, inkey list Bond builders and now Bouton try the aussie one. Made a difference on my bleached hair. Thanks for your content

Glenda Perry: I Learned last year to use oil after conditioning Thanks

Rebella: Loved the info in this video, thxs so much. Can you recommend a place where I can purchase a curly half wig

Lady T: Thanks so much for sharing Curly Chemist!!

Sabrina Moffitt: What do you think about shea butter on the hair for low posality hair

NuNu Huda: You’re so gorgeous thank you

Serenity Hill: Thanks sis… appreciate you

Jonelle: Your hair "drops" so nicely. My high porosity hair could never

Renee Pulliam: Hi Tonya, What about grey hair & dryness? I’m letting the relaxer go.

Lady T: I am trimming my ends every 8th weeks !!

Rachel Morosky: good source of b vitamins in correct balance is royal jelly --also good for energy

Sabrina Moffitt: What do you think about glycerin on the hair

Deborah Coats: To start my detangling process from the bottom up to the top

A M: I have a video that would be good for you to do how to regrow your edges. Minor - severe - possible permanent loss.

Miss T: What brand of Omega 3 and milligrams do you recommend?

🍀 Lucky#13: Protective styling… good nutrition….0mega 3 …. B vitamins ie : b complex … tlc

V M: The weekly masks are annoying bc it feels like I JUST did my hair. I may start doing them every two weeks. But I am seeing growth

delma Louisrubin: Love your videos. What is the South serum?

Weird Myst: I'll take a bunch of pieces of bottle tops and glue them to a bottle and massage my scalp feels great.

kecia doleman: To not allow my hair, to have Moisture overload with watery products but to still to Moisturize, Moistourize, Moisturize to prevent breakage. Oh. Oh..Oh! The ACV rinses to keep the scalp clean and the PH balance of your scalp. What to look for in store bought hair products. The importance of Glycerine.

mister don: I love your hair.

perpetual muzac: I started locs. What's a good product for locs. Can I use oils.

Elizabeth Jefferson: Do you have videos on proper hair massage?

King hill: Happy Friday ❤️
