How To Curl, Tease, And Finger Wave Style Drag Queen Hair!

Watch Part 1 where I straighten and detangle this wig! https://youtu.be/u9aPmJAze-c?list=PLaZ...

In this episode I show you guys how I roller set and tease out and style my wig and achieve big, old hollywood, jessica rabbit - esque hair. I've looked for so many tutorials online for this exact style and couldn't find any so I learned a lot of this through trial and error. But if you want more wig videos from real pros check out Bobbie Pinz and Wigs by Vanity on youtube!

Hey guys, it's kind saw my last video. I showed you how to take your old ratty crusty wig and bring it back from the dead and turn it into this silky straight Pantene: commercial, ready, hair. If you haven't seen that video, yet you can click up here to watch it or here I think it's here now, silky straight hair is always a good look and a really easy look to do. But it's not really my preferred style of hair. I tend to like my wigs to have a little more shape and body and volume, so in this video, I'm gon na show you guys how I curl and tease and style my wigs. The only reason I really straightened it was to get out all the knots and tangles and frizz when the hair is smooth and silky. It takes the curl a lot easier and it looks a lot more smoother and cleaner. So if your wig looks like it just went through the seven circles of Hell be sure to watch that video first otherwise in this video we are gon na go from this to this. So I'm going to start off by parting, my wig. The way that I want to - and I like to go first side part so just choose a direction of the part and then brush the hair. That way, the rollers that I'm using are a wire mesh roller from bobby pins calm. I think the diameter is a three-quarter inch. If I'm not mistaken, you could get rollers from pretty much anywhere. Although I have tried my fair share up doll, the soul rollers and was not happy with them, I they had like velcro on them, which I guess was like meant to adhere to the hair better, although when I took it out, the crow wasn't smooth because it Like stuck to the velcro, so it was like frizzy and gross, so I'm gon na be doing a diagonal set here on the bangs, which just means that it's gon na be set in this direction and then on the part, I'm gon na. Do it like that? Just so that the parting is well-defined, so I'm taking a section, that's about the same size as the roller and I'm gon na curl it towards the head, so that when I take it out, it gives the kind of smooth bang that I like. So just take. That section and then wrap the hair around it make sure it's wrapped nice and smooth and tight if there are any kinks in it. It'S gon na show up when you take the curl out, so be very gentle with it and be very patient. You can see. I'M just rolling it down and then, instead of keeping it like this straight on the head, I'm gon na. Do it a little bit like this just to kind of push the hair that way. This is a three inch long pearl pin, which I also got some bobby pins and I'm just pinning it into the head in those holes that the wire mesh roller has. I want my hair to kind of resemble this thing body wave, so it's really important that the roller sets are all done of equal sizes and equal widths, so that the hair is all uniform. Otherwise, it's gon na come out kind of messy, which is not the style that I'm going for so now that I've reached the part instead of setting the rollers diagonally like this, I'm going to be doing them, diagonally like this, so that they go a different direction And then the part is just well defined, but I'm still gon na try to curl them facing outwards. So this is a finished Roller set on the bangs. It'S really easy. Once you have some silky straight hair to run your fingers through. It really only gets hard when it's hard to part the hair, but this is what it looks like. I'M gon na continue the same exact pattern just for one more row right behind these just so high. I have really big thick bangs and then, after that, I'm gon na do something a little bit different, but I'll be right back. So, as you can see, all of the rollers here on the bangs now have little partners to go with them. I now have this. Second row of rollers that are just the same exact direction and same exact parting as the first row. Now all this left to do is the back, and I don't really care that much about their role is on the back. I'M still gon na make sure that they're, nice and neat and clean all I'm saying is that parting in the direction of them. Don'T really have any rhyme or reason just make sure the entire back of the head is put in roller so that it's nice and curly and wavy so you're gon na take your hot steam. Sorry, if it's log, you can tell that it's old and you're. Just gon na wave it around the wig and the hot steam is just gon na help to set those curls in place in the same way that hunter like a flatiron or a blow dryer can change the shape of the hair. This is gon na mold. The hair and kind of almost melt off plastic, not really melt the plastic, but just make it a little bit flexible to make it mold to the shape of the roller. As you can see a lot of the steam that's blowing out of this machine is actually a rising up, but it's not really hitting the wig. So one trick that I like to do, I'm just gon na set this aside. I'M actually gon na take a plastic bag and then put it on top of the wig like so and then, as you can see, I'm gon na take my steamer and then just put it under there and what this does is that's gon na drop the steam Right inside of this bag, so it doesn't blow up into the air and it's forced to just create a halo of heat and steam right around the wig. I think I learned this trick from bobby pins here on YouTube, and it's just so: oh my god. It got my iPhone, it's just so efficient, as you can see. If I lift it up, a bunch of steam is gon na escape. So I'm gon na leave this bag on here to just kind of let that hair cook for a little bit to get a really tight curl. You want the hair to cool down in the same position that it was heated up in, so I'm gon na leave. It in the curlers, even for overnight, if you want, leave it there for probably a good hour, I'm gon na go eat some dinner and I'll be back when the hair is nice and cool, Oh God, okay, okay, I'm back! Let'S see how those clothes turned out. So one by Juana, I'm just taking out each roller and you can see just how bouncy and tight these crows are because we let them cool in that position. But I'm just gon na take out all these rollers. You can see how here there's an automatic part created, because I separated the roll this differently in part of them different ways, and this hair even has a little bit of a lift, because I had the curl going outward so even without any teasing at all. I already have a little bit of a smoothie bang going on, but obviously this needs a lot of brushing. So I'm gon na go through the hair and you can see after running your brush through it, that the curls just transform into these nice big voluminous body waves, which I just think it's so pretty alright. So now that I've brushed all those curls out and they're. Looking like nice loose waves, all that's left now is to tease it I mean you could go out like this spray, some hairspray on it and then call it a day, but I'm gon na tease it to give it some more volume, especially here in the bangs. I don't really like to tease this back section. I think it's pretty enough as it is. I just like to add a little extra lift here to this thing and then tear to this side section. So the hair is a little bit bigger, like straight on, so to tease that I use a brush that looks like this. It just has a lot more bristles and is a lot more dense and brush. They used to detangle but use whatever you have and then I'm just going to backcomb at the roots behind this section, where you don't see just backcomb like that, creating almost a little cloud of hair right at the roots to create that lift and as you can See it almost stands up right on a limb because of all about teasing, just gon na lower this, and then I'm gon na do the same on the top, selecting a strand of hair and then teasing the back right at the roots. And then I'm gon na continue and tease all the hair along the hairline, like I said, I'm not gon na do any hair at the back. Just this hairline. Now what I'm gon na do. I know it looks like a huge mess, just like what I started with, but I'm actually gon na smooth it out and it's gon na look a lot different. So taking the exact same brush, they used to tease it with, and then I'm just gon na go over the surface of the hair. You don't want to go too deep, otherwise you might undo the teasing and with a stuff you're gon na inevitably do undo. Some of the teasing, but you want to still maintain all the body that you put in you just want to make it look like the surface, has not been teased and that the surface is clean and smooth and if it still looks really frizzy and cloudy. Don'T worry about it too much I mean worse, comes to worse, you can always put it back into rollers and steam. It again, but just fidget around with it with your hands and you'll, see that the curl that you put in earlier just naturally appears again. If you set it right and you set them all equally, so the next technique that I'm going to show you guys is actually something that I just recently started doing and it's to help both lock it in place and really solidify the curls and make the curls Look that much tighter and bouncier. So what I'm gon na do is I'm gon na bring up my rollers gun, except instead of putting the hair in rollers? I'M gon na use the rollers to accentuate the curls that are already in here. So the first thing that I see when I look at this is that this piece of hair right here doesn't really sit. The way that I want it to. I wanted to kind of go out a little bit more. I'M gon na take my roller and kind of set it just right here and pin it into place with some purl pins. So then, next I'm finding where the curl naturally is from the rollers, because that's the most natural place to put it, take my roller and then put it right in there and then put another proponent and now I've just put in another roller underneath that curl. So the hair kind of goes like this and wraps around all the rollers. I'M gon na do the same thing on this side of hair. Now, except whereas here I have the hair going on that way. Here I'm gon na use the roller trick to help the hair stand up. That way and, like I said, just listen to the hair, find out where it naturally wants to curl cuz that is gon na, be the place where this trick is gon na, be the most effective. This trick, I learned from wigs by vanity here on YouTube. I'M going to use a blow dryer on low heat and some hairspray. Then these two, as a little mixture, is just gon na make that hair like rock hard. So I'm just gon na take out all of these rollers and then let's see the final result. So this you guys is the finished, look still a little bit rough around the edges. I guess I know I still have lots flowing, but it definitely looks a lot better in my opinion than how it started out cue, the flashback to that look. It just goes to show that, no matter what kind of hair you're starting out with whether it's really old and ratty and crusty, or if it's really cheap and low-quality, with nothing more than a steamer and some rollers and a hairbrush, you can really upgrade it and Customize it to make it look like this expensive, glamorous looking fantasy. The only drawback I think to this finger wave style is that it leaves the hair kind of dry and almost rock hard to the touch, because we use so much hairspray. So maybe it's not really a practical solution for all the girls out there looking for their wigs to look more natural, um cuz, my goal is to look more supernatural anyway. Anyway. I hope you guys were inspired by this video unless you learned something cool. If you try this out on your own wigs and definitely let me know how it goes I'll leave all my social media down below. So you can send me pictures and tag me in them, be sure to leave all your questions and concerns and comments and any tips you might have down below in the comments I'm always down there reading and responding to you guys anyway. This concludes the end of my little two part wig series. If you want to see any more videos from me, let me know what kind of styles you want to see from me and I'll try to get back to you on that. But thanks so much for watching and I'll see you guys emetics by

ChristiJae: I AM LIVING!! Loved this tutorial!

Dazey Mayhem: Quick tip to cut down your setting and waiting time: after you steam it, throw it in the freezer. Once it's cold to the touch, your curls are set. It's a matter of 5 or 10 minutes versus waiting for it to naturally cool down and the sudden, super cold from the freezer really locks the curl in place.

Miss RooBee Vetiver Nosit: That roller trick......is genius! Heck I'm a hairstylist and I was like," why haven't I ever thought to do that? "! Thank you, I'm off to go play with some wigs!

Ho Mi: I like how you shout out all the other youtubers youve learned from. You did a great job

jarofcocoabutter: This is TOO BOMBBoutta do this for my prom !

Skarlet Starlet: Make sure the rollers you use around the back of the head align with the front. It ensures your curl pattern aligns when you go to style, enabling you to create a uniform fingerwave effect. Pro tip: tease each curl from bottom to tip then spread them horizontally, flattening the curl. You'll get a finger wave that holds it's shape. Tease and spray accordingly.

MzGlamourAddict: FABULOUS!! I am all for the big hair. This video saved me some coins, I'll be whipping out my old ratted wig and follow your steps. Thank YoUUuu!!!

7swordMary: Brushing gently down, starting a couple of inches above the ends, then gradually making your way to the roots, a couple of inches higher at a time, will stress the hair far less, and leave more curl vs fuzz, especially with a drop or 2 of arnorall / liquid silicone applied to each hair section you part out.

FadhiliTheOne: Cosplayer here! I’ve tried this technique with a longass wig from arda wigs and bruh. THIS WORKS RIDICULOUSLY WELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you do want to curl a really long wig Just make sure to use smaller rolls and give yourself extra time to make sure the steam goes through ALLL the hair. But other than that I vouch for this technique if you can’t do the traditional ‘dip in boiling water than dip in freezing water’ technique
