All right here I have two boards on the bench. One of them is a PS4 and the customer covered liquid metal with this plastic piece and that's a good thing and we have an Xbox One X. This one came in for what looks like an HDMI connector replacement and the HDMI connector is not even on the board. So, let's take a look and see what's going on, we have about 23 consoles that we need to fix, but I do not know how much I can squish in this video the more repairs I do in one video, the more editing and the more time it Takes to render upload and do all that stuff, so maybe we'll do one or two repairs. It depends on how long it takes and right now I do see a missing pad on the board. Look at this, so whoever worked on it. They got the connector off and they stopped one rip fat all the way on the right. We still have what looks like on. Let It solder I do not know if it's unleaded or a mixture or flooded and unloaded, but we're gon na have to Wick the solder of the holes. We'Re gon na have to restore the pad here and solder a new connector, and I said this is a PS4. I made a mistake: it's a PS5 okay, so we see a missing capacitor here. Hdmi connector restore a Trace and we should be good now. The customer only mailed the motherboard and did not mail the whole console and that's very bad, because we cannot try it we're gon na fix the port and we're gon na charge. The customer full price and he's gon na have to reassemble it, spend the time to do all that work. It would have been free if he mailed the whole console here. We disassemble fix, reassemble, test it and send everything 100 right. Now we can do nothing but replace the connector and mail it back to the customer. So let's go ahead and do it quick? Let'S talk more work, even though a lot of people like more talk and less work, so everyone is different and let's take a look at the Xbox One X, it's expedited. What about the PlayStation? Is it expedited? No PlayStation 5 is not expedited, but the Xbox is and on the ticket it reads: a retimer chip. What'S new right when you say Xbox, One X, think about retimer. When you talk, PS5 think HDMI port, it's very uncommon that the retimer goes bad on 1s, but we see it happening on every one X that we get in the shop View. If we look here, it looks like whoever worked on this board attempted to replace the chip, whether they did a good job or not. It'S not working and the customer also mailed the board. Only and not the whole console so go figure. We need to look and see if we have any missing components. I forgot if we have a component here or not, even though I keep a graphical image in my brains of every board I work on. I cannot recall if we have something here or not. Maybe I need to install more memory in my brains, I'm running out of space now, hopefully, nothing else was done on the board, but the removal of the HDMI connector. I do not see anything obvious except for that missing capacitor, which, by the way we sell on our site just search for PS5 HDMI capacitor. We sell them in tax of 10. all right. So if we do not start we're not going to finish so, let's do it and what I'm going to do is apply low, Mount solder, mix unleaded with low melt and that will make the wicking process a lot easier. It comes in a pack like this. Whatever we are using to fix the connector here, you can purchase from our site lomal solder, the wig flux pad strips UV light tweezers. I always repeat this for all new viewers on the channel and we're going to use just a tiny bit of that. Stick. We have six sticks inside here and one stick will last you a long time, because a little bit of Flamel solder goes a long way, so we're gon na apply low melt, as you see here and of course, I'm using a big tip, because big tip means More heat transfer and we're going to do the same here now we're going to do the same thing here. Take some of that one out from here all right, foreign. Let'S make use of all three hands because you know I have three hands one for the wick. One for the soldering iron and some help with hot air, I'm grabbing all three at once: I'm grabbing the wick and the soldering iron with two hands and I'm using my foot to hold the hot air station, the hot air nozzle, not the station, I'm not that Good, okay and we have one more: let's go back to the front and take a look at What's Happening Here. Let'S use our grinding pan and we're gon na have to pre-apply solder on all those pads anyway. So, let's do it now and now to restore the pad we're going to be using strips for pad strips four, and this small sheet contains 2500 plus pad strips on it. You can find it on our site, just log into northwestfix.com click on shop and search for strips or pad strips, and this one is pad strips number four. Okay. So if you look under the microscope, I want to show you what's on that sheet. You have different pad strips circular long ones, the ones I very commonly used this here. You seem to use them in almost every video and you have big dots, small ones, smaller ones, rectangular ones, round Edge, rectangular ones, and then you have these and over 2500 pad strips on this one small sheet. So let's go ahead and grab this one should be the other way around like this, and we can use this ultra fine needle probe to hold it down. While we solder see done how easy is that and the reason I use this ultra fine needle probe, because look at the difference between a tweezer and this needle probe, it's a big difference. Now we need to solder that capacitor before we Reflow the HDMI connector and I need to add more solder here but I'll add more solder after we mask it. So we do not lose that pad. Er mask will hold it down in place, UV mask and now we're gon na grab a PS5 HDMI cap and, like I said, those caps are being sold in quantities of 10, one two, three four, five, six, seven, eight nine ten and if you happen to be Lucky, maybe you get 11 or 12 caps for the price of 10, because we got one customer that sent us an email that you sent me 12 caps instead of 10.. Maybe we missed cut the strips I mean those components are extremely tiny. I told them great. You owe us 600 for telling us that we sent you two extra caps. Some customers are just too honest and that's a good thing. It'S not a bad thing. Honesty is the best policy. I had some flux here. The reason I'm adding flux now is so I can wet the tip of the tweezer like that, and so I can grab that component See Magic, beautiful and now we're gon na apply UV mask a little bit on top and a little bit on the bottom. Just like that, and it's just a tiny bit on the bottom here and then grab our 10 watt UV lamp, which you can also find on our e-commerce site, we're gon na press the button and wait. It goes like this with a cup over, so UV does not spill. It'S not good to look at UV, and what's nice about this is that it will shut off after 10-15 seconds or maybe 20 seconds you can see it's still on. Is it off and now it's off okay done we're done. I just want to apply a little bit of hot air, so we can clear that shiny coat on the UV mask and just like that, and that's a trick. I shared in a previous video talking about solder mask now that we have the fat strip secured down by the UV mask. Let'S apply a little bit of solder onto that strip and then we can solder the HDMI connector we're gon na have to apply flux. Anyway. All right, very nice and now comes the fun part. Hdmi connector soldering we're going to Reflow that connector We're Not Gon na solder, it 10 by 10., because we want to do it better than Factory. Now I want to show you something cool. We recently created a box called the game console HDMI box and it looks something like this 10 compartments. We have HDMI connectors for Xbox series X. We have five pieces: Nintendo switch, USBC, connectors, Nintendo switch all that USBC connectors Xbox One S, HDMI connectors Xbox, One X, HDMI connectors five of each, and if we look on this side, we have the S5 HDMI connectors. We have PS5 USB 3 connectors, you know which ones I'm talking about the blue ones and those they come in quantities of four. So everything is five, except for the USB connectors. They come in four PS5 USB connectors, and then we have PS4 Pro slim HDMI, connectors. Five pieces and we have PS4 HDMI connectors five pieces, so you have 49 pieces of HDMI connectors and USBC connectors and USB connectors inside this box. Now the box is a little bit expensive because you have 49 connectors inside some connectors. They sell for six dollars. Some connectors they sell for five dollars, some connectors for three dollars: uh, the most expensive ones inside the Box, are the USB 3 PS5 USB 3 connectors. But the rest are like five, six or three dollars, but it adds up and you got the box for free. We label it, we organize it for you and it fits and the palm of your hand, but this box will make you a lot of money. How much do you charge for an HDMI, connector replacement? Let'S go over to the microscope and just place. The HDMI connector make sure the legs are inside to like zero, two legs there and we're gon na Reflow and we're gon na watch. The magic happens. Oh and no, my daughter is here. Not again, you look beautiful. I, like your clothes, know this koala shirt. Priscilla has the same shirt as this really yeah. I like it. Why is she winking where's, my Frappuccino, you forgot. No, actually I have my coffee right here. Okay, can I get a boost? Did you know in one week I'm gon na go on level four, no way level, four in swimming great job, so you're a gymnast you're good in swimming, and what else are you good at cartwheels all right all right? My most favorite thing is to study and learn how to fix things. Okay, can you tell me what's most important in life, you know: uh family comes first great job, iPhone 8 yeah. Okay, I'm gon na have to check this later I'll, be back okay. So, let's continue, the last step is to apply heat and Reflow that connector down in place, and just as I sat down it cool from my wife, she was just outside hello. Can we not get any more interruptions, so we can finish up with this HDMI connector. We'Re gon na apply hot air and press down on that connector, just like that beautiful okay. So, let's start with pin number one and I'm putting a good amount of pressure on those pins to make sure that we do not have any loose pin. The pen is soldered from front to back, not only from the front, it's a long pin or a long pad, and it makes a connection with the pins from front to back. And, of course we have the final pin here and you can tell the pad is soldered on to the PIN one more time. One more time, final test, and if we send this back to the customer and the customer tells us that it's not working, then he will have to mail the whole console for testing. We do not just go by what the customer tells you, because not everyone is honest and now we're gon na solder, those bad legs all right and we're good, let's clean up. So how do we know that we did a good job? One method I use is look at the solder joints. Look at the shoulder blobs if you can fix your hair or, if you're a lady. You can fix your makeup by looking at those shoulder blobs, then you're good and we're done we're gon na invoice and mail. Instant Muffin: Hello Alex, I would really enjoy a mini series of Big Boss showing how to open up devices, specifically the ones you are not supposed to get open. I do have sprudgers etc. however most of the time I do break the plastic hinges/clips and have to weld them on with a used up soldering tip. I am sure there are a lot of intricate details and tricks that he can share just like you do in your field of expertise. Thank you for your continued efforts!

Fraser Thomson: I find these videos relaxing, there's some real skills here. If I ever need repairs done, I'll send it here, regardless of international shipping charges, these guys are true craftsmen.

Super Hiro: You are a fantastic role model, and clearly a loving father.

Benji Lomsanga: I learned from you that low melt solder works wonders. Thank you sir.

Toby Prior: Hi Alex great repair. Just a suggestion which I know I'm going to regret saying as it's clear on here that some people really don't like other people having thoughts or opinions but that's life. With your hdmi box I think it would be worth considering adding some caps in there as well. This board repair would be a great example of why it would be handy and it wouldnt really push the cost up that much more.

Marcello Medini: Just when you think you could not like this guy anymore you see he is a great dad as well. Have learned so much from this channel. God bless you and your family!

c_hegge: There is an easier way to solder that tiny cap in. Last time I did one, after applying solder and flux to the pads and sitting the capacitor on the pads, I just heated the two pads on the HDMI connector that connect to it with the soldering iron. The heat actually conducts down to the solder on the cap and it just settles on to the board. No hot air needed, no need to hold it in place, and no risk of having it fly off into the 9th dimension.

Andrei Holingher: Hi, one idea is to make a live streams. This will save you a ton of time. Just do repairs live - start the camera and forget about it. When a customer comes in, just pause the stream, nobody will get mad. We like how you do the repairs.

coladict: Thank you for offering useful advice in your videos. I have completed two home electronics projects of my own since I started watching your channel, and I'm about to do a third by replacing the dead rechargeable batteries of my electric screwdriver. Your video about the FLIR camera using standard batteries in a wrapper gave me the idea that this screwdriver probably does the same, and I was right.

Robert Page: You should make it mandatory in EVERY considered repair and a header at the top of the website to tell the customer to mail the entire device in or NO FIX. I saw much more potential problems on both boards and suspect components that look like trouble. If a customer gets angry after reassembling their device and it still does not work, I'd assume that they would not pay you even though it is their fault. Upon opening any device mailed in, if it was not the complete device, reseal and back to the customer with explanation. It is just insanity to even try to make a conscientious effort and waste of time to try and repair these separate components. Like dropping off your car for repair without the key.
