Hey everyone and welcome back to my channel so in this video i'm going to be taking down my knotless braids that i installed about three months ago and i'm also going to be detangling my hair in this video. If you're interested in this video, then please stay tuned. So now i'm just going to show you guys the new growth that i got while my hair was in a protective style for three months. So during the time that my hair was in a protective style, i did not wash my hair. I'Ve said this in previous videos that i do not wash my hair while it's in a protective style. If you would like to know why, then you would have to watch my previous videos also um frequently asked questions that i get is um did my hair stink, while my hair was in a protective style for so long and without washing it? No, i don't have that issue, i don't know if it has something to do with like body chemistry or maybe the products that you may be using, but i don't have an issue with my hair having a smell to it or anything like that. Also, i do not suffer from dandruff or psoriasis of the scalp or any type of scalp condition like that, and while my hair was in a protective style, the only thing i really did was my moisturizing routine, which i have several videos on my channel about my Moisturizing routine, you can always click on my hair, routine playlist. So that way you can check those videos out. So now i'm just unraveling all my braids. I already did the back section and i'm going to be working on the front and, as i'm unraveling my braids, i do not like to detangle my hair. At the same time, i like to just finish unraveling all of my braids and then i'll go ahead and start the detangle process. Also, i do not like to finger detangle, my hair, i feel like i'm just not able to really get all the tangles out properly and it's very important after you had your hair in for a very long time, in a protective style that you detangle your hair. Properly before you go into the washing phase, so as i'm unraveling my braids, i kind of want to talk about if you are doing protective styles, to kind of help, your hair grow but you're not seeing any progress. I just kind of want to talk about why you may not be seeing some progress because i know i had somebody comment saying that they had their hair in a protective style and then once they took their protective style out, they didn't really see much growth um. So some people just think like because you like, put braids in your hair, like your hair, is just going to automatically just grow, but, like your hair does grow every single day. The problem is: keep um retaining the length so um, while your hair is in a protective style. You got to make sure that one you are properly moisturizing your hair. I know me: i have low porosity hair so um when it comes to like low porosity hair. Basically, it kind of takes um a while for products to actually like penetrate your hair shaft. So when you first put products in your hair, it's kind of just sitting on the surface of your hair and it's not actually like penetrating your hair shaft. So you have to be mindful of that. You got to kind of know what your porosity is and then also you got to find the proper products. That'S going to keep your hair moisturized for a long period of time as well. So you know if your hair is very dry, when you remove your protective style, it can be. Your hair can be prone to breakage. So if your hair is very dry and you got a protective style in it, and then you take your protective style out, then you most likely are causing breakage when you're removing your protective style. So you also got to be careful about when you are removing your protective style like you got to be very patient when you are removing a protective style as well like it's, not a process that you could just rush through real, quick. Another reason why you may not be seeing progress is because you're not keeping up with like your regular trims. So if you're somebody that's prone to having like split ends when it comes to having your regular trims, it helps to prevent the split ends from traveling up. Your hair, which can also cause your hair to thin out and then it could also make it appear, like your hair, isn't growing so having regular trims is very important. Have you ever seen somebody that had like long hair but like their ends, look really bad like their ends, look very thin or like their ends were like see-through, like you could see right through their ends. Well, if you're having that type of issue, then you need to cut all that hair off like i know, there's some people that they just want to hold on to that hair because they like the length but the ends just look really bad like you got to Cut that off um once you cut that off, then you know you could allow your hair to like flourish and you can hang on to length a lot better. That way. Um because, like i said, if you suffer from split ends, all the split ends is going to do is going to travel up your hair, your hair strand, and it's going to cause your ends to look thinner and then it's going to make. It seem like your hair, isn't really growing um when i used to suffer from like split ends. What i would do is like right before i would go into a protective style. I would trim my ends and then i would also do like protein treatments and then, before i go into a protective style, i still do protein treatments now. That'S why i feel like also. I don't have to trim my hair as often anymore um. I think i trim my i trim my hair, like maybe twice a year now, but if you have really bad split ends, i think you're supposed to get like a trim every six to eight weeks. I think um, but don't quote me on that. So after i removed all my braids, i'm just going to go ahead and go into my detangle process. So when it comes to my detangle process, i just like to um use a detangle brush and then i like to use like a like a cheap watery base. Conditioner i'm going to be using the v05. I think it's the kiwi squeeze conditioner um. I just like to use that because i like how like watery it is um. I don't like doing the whole like spray, your hair with water and then do conditioner. I feel like it's just that. I don't know why. That'S just too much work for me, so i just like how it's like kind of already watery, and it just gives me enough slip to work with and then um and then i just go in with my detangle brush. I like to just um section my hair into like medium sections and then just work in that way and then, after i finish detangling that section i go ahead and kind of like braid it like braid, my hair kind of like a quarter way halfway. I don't know and then um, because i kind of like to wash my hair in braids or plaits or whatever you want to call it just because the whole detangle process it's a lot. So i don't like to really kind of wash my hair. How do you describe it? I don't like to wash my hair when it's just like out um, i kind of like to wash my hair in braids and because i feel like it just saves time on me having to detangle my hair again. If that makes sense, so my detangling process is pretty repetitive. I just go ahead and section. My hair off then apply conditioner, and then i go in with the detangle brush and then once i've detangled. That section i go ahead and plait that section um. So that way, it's just like out of my way um. So while i'm detangling my hair, i'm just gon na continue the conversation of why you may not be seeing progress so, like i said in previous videos, i'm not a professional at this. I'M just talking from like my experience and things like i've kind of learned along the way. So you know you don't have to take my advice at all, but another reason why i think, maybe you may not be seeing progress - is that maybe you're braiding, your hair too tight when you braid your hair too tight like it, can cause your hair to fall Out, if you repeatedly do this pattern and get super tight, braids installed into your hair, you can cause permanent damage, such as traction alopecia. So you got to make sure that when you're getting braids done, if you're doing them yourself or going to a professional that they are being very gentle with your hair, because if they're not you know, they can cause your um edges to fall out, they can cause The nape area of your hair to fall out they can cause. You know you can like. Have you seen, people like where the crown of their head is like bald, like they don't have no hair there anymore. So you got to be very careful when you're, installing braids twist or any type of protective style. I know for me like i've had like people install my braids and then i've had, and then i've done my braids myself. So i know for me uh when i would have like somebody do my my braids. I would like make sure like they wouldn't touch. My edges, like i, would literally like brush out my edges and i'll, be like don't don't braid, my edges. Don'T touch my edges. You could braid everything else, but just don't touch my edges um, because i've had experience where somebody like braid my edges too tight and then that caused my edges to fall out. I'Ve also. You know i do my own braids um, i'm not the best braider in the world. I'Ve said that in previous videos - but i remember like when i was when i first really got into protective style and i was wearing like um. I was doing u-parts and i would braid my own hair down like i would like cornrow my hair and i didn't know what i was doing. I still don't really know what i'm doing and um. So i would like cornrow my hair, while my hair was dry, which is a big no-no and because of that, and because i didn't know how to really braid properly like, i would get so frustrated because, like as i'm braiding, my hair, like my hair, would get Really tangled and i would become so frustrated and impatient that i would literally like rip my hair out because, like my hair would get like so tangled so bad that i didn't have the patience to like just kind of like take my time to unravel that knot Or tangle or whatever you want to call it, and i would just rip my hair out and then over time of me repeatedly doing this, like i noticed like one time, i straightened my hair or i attempted to straighten my hair and, like my ends, look like One side of my hair was like thinner than the other side and was shorter than the other side. So when i noticed that about my hair, that's when i realized i was like okay. I can't i need a new method and i think i have a video on my channel. It'S like one of my older videos, but that's when i started to um cornrow, my hair, while my hair had conditioner in it. I noticed like when my hair had conditioner in it. I had enough, i had slip and i was able to braid my hair down better that way and then like um and then what i would do is like after i would cornrow my hair with the conditioner in it i'll just wash the conditioner out. I think i do have a video somewhere on my channel i'll try to see if i can find it. I may link it in the cards um, but if not it most likely should be in my hair, routine playlist, but and then that's when eventually i just started because i remember somebody asked me they were like. Why do you um? Why do you do like the mini braids um, instead of actually like cornrowing your hair when you wear a wig and that's when i eventually just stopped um rolling my hair, because i don't know why i thought like you, could only have cornrows when you wear a Wig but that's when i started doing the mini braids like it's easier for me to do the mini braids, because i cannot really cornrow my hair. So another reason why you may not be seeing progress is because maybe you might be keeping the protective style in too long, so i know um, i tend to do a lot of long-term protective styling, but that is not for everyone. I'Ve said this in previous videos that i think the the longest i've kept. My protective styles in is like four months. I'Ve not gone past four months. I feel like four months is good for me um, but even even with that being said, i don't always keep my protective styles in for four months. Sometimes i may do a month, two months, three months and like i said the longest is four months. I probably could go longer than that, but i just stick to four months um. I don't really want to go past four months um and for some people like you, may not be able to go three four months with a protective style. Like maybe the longest you can go is a month which is okay, you got to do what's best for your hair and what's best for your scalp, and some people just may see other people keeping their protective styles in for a long period of time and think, Like oh i'ma do the same thing too. I'Ve said this in previous videos too, like you can't just go from keeping a protective style in for two weeks or something like that, and then try to do four months like it has to be gradual, like um, i would suggest if you kept the protective style In for a month like maybe try a month and a half and see how your hair does and then the next time you know maybe try two months and see how your hair does but don't go from like two weeks to try to do four months or A month and try to do six like that, that might be a bit too much um, also, if you're somebody who does suffer from scalp any type of scalp conditions like dandruff or psoriasis. You may not want to keep your protective style in too long. The max. I would say is maybe a month just because you want to be able to give your hair the proper care that it needs. So that way it can thrive. I mean yes, you can cleanse your hair and moisturize your hair while it's in a protective style. But if you do suffer from those type of scalp conditions, then you want to be able to cleanse and moisturize your hair to its fullest extent. And the last reason why i think you may not be seeing progress is because you're not giving your hair time to rest in between protective styling. So it's not really good to go back to back into protective styling. Just because when you are doing protective styling, like you, are doing a lot of manipulation to your hair, so its best in between protective styling, that you give your hair adequate time to rest and give your scalp time to rest as well. You know during that time, while your hair is resting, you should basically be moisturizing your hair, washing your hair, deep conditioning, your hair and just giving it time to rest um after i take out my braids, i'm definitely giving my hair time to rest um, i'm normally. I try to go for a month, but if i'm able to go longer than that, then i will go longer than that, but i feel like you should give yourself your hair time to rest in between protective styling. So those are the reasons why i think, maybe you haven't been seeing progress after you've had your protective style in for a long time like i said before, i'm not a professional, i'm not a licensed. What is it dermatologist or a cosmetologist? So these are just what my opinions - these are just what i think maybe is going on um. So let me know in the comment section what you guys think or if you guys have maybe some other ideas, why you may not be seeing progress but yeah. That'S what i got for you guys. I hope they were helpful. No i'm gon na need. Your food is yes is, is, is me so so after i finish detangling my hair, i'm gon na go into my wash day routine, so i do have that video coming out soon, so stay tuned for that also towards the end of this video, i'm gon na, Be showing you guys how much shed hair i got from detangling my hair, and that is all i hope you guys um enjoyed this video, don't forget to like share comment and subscribe, and i will see you guys in the next one bye. So you

Ares: There are a few reasons why braids might not help your hair grow. First, if the braids are too tight, they can actually damage your hair and cause breakage. Second, if you're not taking care of your scalp and hair properly, the braids won't be able to do much. Make sure you're using a good shampoo and conditioner, and that you're regularly moisturizing your scalp.

LaGail Williams: Braids have grown my hair out tremendously!

zzajamu: So I also do NOT wash my hair while it's protective styled. Because it leads to severe matting and hair loss.. However I have never found anyone else who does it too, so I'm curious as to why you don't. I'm wondering if we have had similar experiences. Can you point me to which video you speak about this in?

Lola Ready: I’m natural and I wear protective styles but my ends shed , what do you suggest ? Thank you

Humble Butterfly: Great tips! ❤️

Sharon Cooper: Nice hair and video.
