Hello and welcome to our Channel in today's video we'll be exploring the evolution of Michael Jackson's hair over the years from the afro hairstyle. He sported in the early days of his career, with the Jackson 5 to the sleek and smooth looks of his solo years. Michael Jackson's hair has always been a major part of his image and Stage presence, we'll take a look at some of his most iconic hairstyles and discuss how they've influenced pop culture and fashion so sit back, relax and let's dive into the evolution of Michael Jackson's, hair Mini afro, yes, this Photograph appears to be from the late 1960s around the time that the Jackson 5 were signed to Motown records. At this point, Michael, would have been around 11 years old. The hairstyle that he is wearing in the photograph is known as an afro, which is a natural hairstyle that is characterized by a full round. Shape and tightly curled hair African hair tends to grow in this way, and the afro was often referred to as a natural hairstyle, because it allows the hair to be worn in its natural state without the use of chemical, relaxers or other styling products. In this Photograph, Michael's afro looks welcomed and neatly packed likely with the use of a pick or comb to shape the hair into the desired shape. The afro Michael looks 14 here. This is an afro similar to the one worn by Ronald McDonald. Michael'S hair looks thick and healthy, not at all what it would look like 30 years later, but I'll get to that in a minute. This was the early 1970s and the black power movement was in The Jacksons were not militant, but any black person wearing their natural afro hair back then was supporting social change as well as the black is beautiful phrase. It was all about embracing your culture and being happy with yourself. The following is a picture of Michael from 1976 or 1977 sporting. What he called his crown afro Crown afro Michael, looks unhappy here, and it's no mystery why his life was hectic during this time. A changing voice, a growth spurt, leaving Motown and Big Brother Jermaine and a traumatizing case of acne. Worst of all, he hated his nose sure enough. Michael'S Crown afro was the king and would have swallowed the smaller ref Rose, worn by his brothers, Jerry curl. In the 1980s, the afro was replaced by an emerging style, the Jerry curl, to get a Jerry curl, a person straightens their hair with a chemical called a relaxer spraying. An expensive bottle of hairspray called activator into the hair will provide a glossy Sheen and bring the curly texture to life. The curl is often called a wash and wear hairstyle, meaning the wetter. It is the better. It looks Michael kept up with the urban trends. He knew all the latest break dance, moves, fashion statements and was no different when it came to popular hairstyles in 1979 he trimmed his crown afro and opted for a new look. The beginnings of Michael's, Jerry curl Journey, began in the music videos for the Off The Wall album and the Triumph tour with his brothers Thriller curls in 1982, Michael Jackson, released his hugely popular album called Thriller. At this time, his Jerry curl hairstyle had grown to be quite long in order to set himself apart and establish his own unique identity, Michael decided to wear a part in his hair. He also allowed a few curls to hang over his eye, which eventually became one of his signature. Looks in this video. You can see Michael getting his hair styled for the cover photo of the Thriller album. The relaxer has already been applied to his hair and he and his stylists are working to comb and style it into the desired shape and look one of the things that really set Michael Jackson, apart from other artists, was his constantly changing hairstyles. He was never one to stick with the same look for too long, and his hair was always a key element of his signature Style. If you take a closer look at the iconic Thriller, music, video you'll, see just how diverse and varied his hair could be in the opening scene of the video. For instance, Michael's hair appears to be wavy and relaxed the result of careful combing and styling. However, as the video progresses you'll see that he switches up his looks several times: sporting different styles and variations on his signature, Jerry curl, this attention to detail and willingness to experiment with his appearance is just one of the things that made Michael such a memorable and Enduring figure in the world of music later in the video, his hair looked more curly and wild the result of picking out the curls with the comb. He probably preferred it this way because of the dancing after all, even Superman's trademark curl would be a mess after executing a superhuman dance routine with The Walking Dead. Remember he's wearing the same hairstyle, just alternating the look of it. Michael'S co-star Ola Ray also had a Jerry curl in the video, a stringy curl one of Michael Jackson's. Favorite grooming habits was wetting his hair. This was especially evident during his Bat and victory tours when he frequently sported a wet stringy look style was achieved by wetting. His Jerry curl, which caused the curls to become much looser and more relaxed in appearance. In fact, even during the unfortunate incident in 1984, when he was burned, Michael was still seen with a wet head wetting, his hair seemed to be something that he enjoyed doing and it became a signature aspect of his iconic image. A fiery setback when Michael Jackson was burned during the filming of a Pepsi commercial in January 1984. It changed his life forever. Not only was this the start of a drug addiction, but the beginning of his fondness for wigs and hair pieces. I know this picture is not pretty, but he suffered second and third degree burns on his scalp. Your hair is not coming back from that. If it does, it won't be in its original condition. Remember how thick Michael's afro looked in the earlier photos. If his hair returned at all, it would not be that thick, not even close, regardless Michael carried on wearing a hairpiece that covered his bald spots. I honestly can't tell you how much of his hair grew back because he kept the burned areas covered for the rest of his life, but I suspect that his hair became thin around the burn areas. Bad in 1987, Michael Jackson's, Jerry curl hairstyle, had grown into a long shaggy style, but he was constantly tossing around as he danced on stage. He kept a part in his hair and combed out the curls to make them appear larger and looser, rather than the smaller tighter curls he had previously. His hair looked amazing, but I have to admit that I'm not completely convinced that it was all his own hair. It'S possible that he may have added some extensions or other hair pieces to achieve the longer length and fullness. In fact, it's worth noting that in the black and white portion of the bad music video Michael's hair is much shorter, but when the song really gets going and he starts performing his signature, dance moves, his hair suddenly appears to be much longer. This could be due to the use of hair, extensions or other hair enhancements to give Michael the benefit of the doubt. The black and white scenes were filmed in January 1987 and the color scenes were shot that summer, but that still isn't enough time for Michael to grow his hair out that freakishly long his hair also looked healthy and full even where he had been burned. He was obviously wearing extensions to make his hair appear, Fuller, thicker and longer. In 1987, many people, both black and white, were perplexed by Michael Jackson's, Sudden Change in skin color. At the time, it was not widely known that he was suffering from a skin disorder and some people speculated that he was attempting to obscure his ancestry. However, we now know that Michael could not help his skin condition and that millions of black people were wearing Jerry. Curl hairstyles at the time, so it seems unfair to label him a sellout or accuse him of trying to distance himself from his racial identity. It'S important to remember that Michael was a pioneering figure in the music industry and his influence and impact have been felt around the world with that being said, let's fast forward to 1991, when Michael's career was reaching New Heights dangerous, as the 1990s began, Michael Jackson, embraced A new sound and look signaling a shift in his artistic Direction. One significant change was the replacement of Quincy Jones with Teddy Riley as his primary collaborator. Along with this new musical partnership. Michael also made a change to his appearance by trading in his signature curls. For a loser, stringier hairstyle, while there was still a slight curl pattern present in his hair, this new hairstyle suited him well and complimented the New Jack Swing tracks on his Dangerous album. This hairstyle known as The Wave Nouveau, is similar to a Jerry curl, in that it involves the use of chemicals to create waves or curls, but it places a greater emphasis on the waves rather than the curls. The wave Nouveau is a stylish and modern look that suited Michael's image and helped him to continue to evolve as an artist. He straightened his hair with a hot comb or a straightener, but I honestly can't tell you which method he used, like the Jerry curl Michael wore the wave Nouveau for years, but constantly modified the appearance of his hair. This picture is a rare shot of Michael from behind the scenes of his Give In To Me music video. He decided to enhance the Curls by using activator. He wore his hair. This way on the dangerous tour as well in 1993. It appears that Michael Jackson made a number of changes to his hair, for example during his performance at the Super Bowl on January 31st. His hair was styled in a loose curly fashion. However, just a few weeks later, on February 10th, when he was interviewed by Oprah, his hair appeared to be straight. This Sudden Change in hairstyle could be the result of various factors such as the use of different hair products or techniques, a change in stylists, or simply a desire to try out a new look. It'S also possible that the differences in the appearance of Michael's hair may have been due to lighting or camera angles, which can have a significant impact on how a person's hair looks in photographs or on television. Ultimately, it seems that Michael was willing to experiment with different hairstyles and looks in order to stay current and maintain His Image as a trend setting artist. The man certainly had the money to get a fresh relaxer put in his hair each week and evidently was doing just that his hair looked great, but getting too many perms will thin your hair out. Another scary thought is that Michael had been wearing relaxers non-stop since 1979. He never once gave his hair a break Little Richard and James Brown wore relaxers quite often, but occasionally went natural to give their hair a break from all those chemicals. Michael. Never did that. The last time we saw his natural hair was his crown afro on the original cover of the Off The Wall album in 1979.. I think all those years of chemicals had caught up to him by late 1993.. His hair doesn't look healthy here. It appears to be thinning and breaking off in places Michael, probably didn't care because he had bigger issues to worry about, including allegations of child abuse, but a change had to be made to save his ailing hair and he made that change in 1995. history hair. It appears that the 1995 MTV Awards marked the last time that Michael Jackson was seen in public wearing all of his own hair. Despite the fact that he had previously received a chemical relaxer to maintain his curls, he did not appear to be wearing any sort of weave or hair extension. At the event, some have speculated that he may have been wearing a small hairpiece towards the back of his head in order to cover up any burn marks that he may have had. But this has never been confirmed regardless. Michael'S, hair and overall appearance at the awards show seemed to be well received by his critics and fans alike. During this time period, Michael's hair seemed to fluctuate in length appearing short, in some appearances and suddenly long in others, despite any speculation or rumors. It is clear that Michael was not concerned with hiding the fact that he sometimes wore wigs and seemed to embrace them as a creative, styling choice, Invincible, hair. It is not surprising that Michael Jackson chose to name his 2001 album Invincible, as it seems that his hair was similarly Unstoppable during this time period, despite the fact that he had been wearing wigs for nearly a decade. At this point, Michael's hair managed to maintain a sense of mystery and versatility appearing short one day and flowing down his back the next in this Photograph. It is evident that he is wearing a lace front wig, as the hairline appears artificially smooth. While some people may not have been fans of the wigs that Michael wore during the 2000s. It is clear that he was able to pull off a variety of different, looks and styles with the help of these hair pieces. Despite any criticism, he seemed to be confident and comfortable in his choices and his hair remained a key part of his iconic image. Wearing a lace front, wig Michael Ponders, a question from British journalist Martin beshear. This long wig is referred to by some as a wrap the whites he wore from 2000 until April 2009 were usually bone straight. Some were curled under at the bottom. I suspect that he was wearing his natural hair underneath and giving it a much needed break from perms, since he wasn't performing much during this period. I suppose it was the perfect time for a hair hiatus. This is it. It looks like Michael returned to the wave Nouveau for the ill-fated this is at concerts. Michael is wearing his real hair for the first time for years, but there are extensions to make it appear Fuller and longer than it really is. This wig appeared a lot more natural than the recent ones he wore and, unlike the others, he actually wore his own hair with the wig. In this case, that's true, Michael Jackson was known for constantly Reinventing himself and his style, and his hair played a key role in this evolution throughout his career. He wore a wide range of different hairstyles, starting with an afro in the 1970s and transitioning to a Jerry curl in the 1980s. As the decades passed, he continued to experiment with new looks often modifying his hair in unique and attention-grabbing ways. Overall, Michael's hair was an important part of his image and helped him to stand out as a performer. He was truly an innovator in many areas, and his hair was just one example of his creativity and boldness. Thank you for watching this video on the evolution of Michael Jackson's hair.
