Hi Sam, via here and Andrew Carruthers education, director and we're glad to be here with you because we're going to talk about blending shears, I don't know about you Andrew, but I get the question all the time. When do I use a blending shear? When do I not use a blending shear, I can tell you this. One of the things that I would not use it on is natural curly hair. It tends to frizz natural curly hair and that's important yeah, and what I've noticed is one of the one of the things that we always say is the ends need friends when it comes to curly hair. So if you take a blending shear and you really come in and you soften overly soften those ends, those ends - don't have those friends to grab ahold of and form a nice smooth, curl love that, because ends need friends, because it needs to wait. Curly hair needs that I love these it's about. When do you use them or when do use a straight blade? Remember these are made to take out weight. Yes, so anytime, you want to take out weight on the proper texture of hair you're working with work with a blending ship, and I think, there's so many different techniques that you can use when you're blending share because a lot of times, I just think people get Stuck with this Jess totally agree, so they they don't think that it's a very versatile tool. So, let's share a technique with them. That'S very, very cool, vertical acceleration with a blending shear. This is great when you want to go in, take weight out, and you want to go and put a steep angle from working from short to long, so just work vertical work with a vertical section: okay, we're going to come through. Take the blunt blade place it on your ring finger, so you stabilize, then I want you to angle out diagonal, that's critical, so you keep the line, saw now just open and close loosen up your tension so that your left hand you're holding in it can slide. So, what's going to happen, is you're going to get a very steep angle from short to long, but what's really great about this, is that you're getting this edge? That'S a lot more soft and a little bit more textured as you work from short to long. So it's a great way to go in and you take long hair that you just want to give it a sense of movement without going in and doing really aggressive layers. So take vertical sections and do it to every other vertical section. Yeah. And I wonder how many of you -- home, have ever just cut a haircut with a blending and that's the cool thing about the Signature Series blending shear is it does remove enough? It removes enough weight with each cut. You can do full haircuts with this blending. Share so true, I've got some buddies out there that are doing that now, working with the blending shear. Let'S talk about Andrew the difference between the signature and the essential okay, so the biggest difference between our signature and are essential series. Blending shear is the tooth spacing and the number of teeth so on this year, you're going to have many many more teeth and they're going to be closer together versus the signature or excuse me the essential series where it has fewer teeth and there's they're spaced farther Apart so logically, which one's going to take out more yeah, you got it. Signature Series is going to take a little bit more out. The essential series is your option when you want even softer, and you only want to take a very minimal amount out. So I keep both of these within my kit, and the nice thing is: is it's two different price points as well, so you can always find something, that's affordable for you, we're talking about taking weight out one of the ways that we've been teaching you to take Weight out or if you're joining us for the first time is simply going in and controlling never let a shear control you in terms of the amount of weight you take out. So simply take the blunt side of the blending shear and weave it like you. Would a highlight - and you can also adjust your color this way. So it's way, let's say I want to add more depth to color, then I'll weave the highlights out. If I want to add more lightness, then I'll weave the darkness out, so you can control the color now watch I'll close on that. So I'm just taking a small amount of hair out so weave it, and you really control the amount of hair that you want to take out. Talk to me about blenders. Just give me a quick tip on blenders. You use them on men's haircuts, scissor over comb. Yeah, so especially, this Signature Series is incredible for blending shear over comb, because again it takes a little bit more of the hair away with each cut. I do a lot of full men's haircuts with this. I actually have this great guy who's, a college professor. He pretty much just one's a buzz cut, but I talked him into coming. Allowing me to do his buzz cut. I did a buzz cut with the signature series. Blender contoured his head shape just slightly. The guy is in every four weeks and will just love, so it probably gave it a little bit more movement, a lot more movement, a lot more texture. I love it. He calls it Duffey texture now finish it. So there you go here. We go again new language new ways, not really just a different way of thinking, different way of saying in a different way of doing its time. I remember Sam via we're here to help you do that if you guys have any questions any comments on this video, please add them to the little box right underneath this screen down there we'll help you out thanks for watching you

Alexis Cornu: I love the concept you shared about curly hair-- that "ends need friends", and that the weight is necesssary at the ends to form a curl...but what about a blending shear on curly hair that is relaxed or otherwise chemical straightened?

Nina Aguirre: Always looking for new ways to use my blending shears, great tips! Would love to see your "buzz cut" with the blending shears and a full haircut for mens/women's hair as well!

HazelwithaJ: Hi Sam! Love your videos! I was wondering about your weaving technique. When you cut with the shearing scissors, do you keep the same angle of the scissors as you cut downwards or do you decreases the angle of the scissors to cut thinner?

Robin Quinones: I'm intrigued by the method you showed using the texture shear to add steep layers in long hair.  I would like to see more of this technique and a full hair cut finished and styled.

Elisabeth Wawersik: Thank you so much! I'm still new to the hair industry, loving the awesome techniques you guys are serving! :)

Cynthia The Hairdresser: Very informative Sam and Andrew. Thank you for sharing these great tips

Saroarrr Mchadderz: Thanks for doing this video. It is really helpful. I am new to hair dressing a complete beginner and in the future would like to do a hair dressing course. However at the moment I am teaching myself through YouTube videos. I would like to see a full video of hair being thinned with long hair and men's hair if possible please. I have also now subscribed to your channel.

Maria Citronvert: Wonderful video - thank you for sharing your expert tips with us!

Anastasiia S: I agree,it's good for taking weight. prefect for dense hair girls who want to have more bouncy, light and textured hair. I have fine hair and after several years I realized this is not for me. My hair lays better with simple cut.:)

Corietta Padilla: I have naturally curly hair but I have short hair and I feel like I carry a lot of bulk at the bottom. I want alot of lift and volume. What would you recommend. I have some layers but it still is weighed down looking. Thank you. I love watching and learning with you and your whole team.

Cherry Lane Monroe: This is the best video I have seen regarding WHAT these scissors do AND why NOT to cut curly long hair with these. SO, what do you suggest I tell the hairdresser regarding my daughters long FULL curly hair? She has a lot of hair and she has a hard time doing her hair. I think maybe a lot of layers all around? Or are long layers better all around?? What would be easier do you think?? THX! :)

Holly Gallant: I love you guys <3 Thank you for making my life and my job easier!

Rebecca Stone: Interesting on the long curly philosophy... I have had great success with thinning long curly hair. I didn't know this was considered taboo,... oh well different strokes for different folks. Love the videos though. Always something new to learn after 20+ years in the biz.

muskndusk: I have naturally curly hair and have started doing the ponytail cut at home after getting some bad cuts from stylists. I'm having problems achieving a face framing shape starting from my fringe and adding wispy bits down the sides. Will thinning shears do this? I can't achieve it with normal hairdressing scissors.

Fabulous: My thinner had thinner teeth, it only removed 15-20% of the weight, compared to I believe it's 40% in most others, I'd rather it take out less and make more cuts than have my scissors take out more than expected in one go

lupitaa chavez: i love these ways to work from sam villa. fast and easy and clean.

Cynthia Spitzer: Hi, do you use the thinning shears on wet or dry hair?

That Bitch: I'm a makeup artist but I love your videos and very glad I found this Chanel.

peejowner: Great video, however it's rather frustrating that because I'm not a hair student nor licensed pro I can't buy from the site.

Liz Mclaughlin: Short, sweet, and simple than to the point ...That's great Now I'm going to cut my hair with my new blending chairs thanks

MeTube: Amazing video. I am a bignner in this field so it'll be helpful for me

Christine Walters: Love you guys! You have so many great ideas!

eisha920: Can you please do a full hair cut with those shears? I'm in hair school and I'm having a really hard time. We do each cut only once! I'm really struggling! !!

Djenne Freeman: can these shears be used on relaxed hair?

momof2: I have curly/wavy hair and have had to get my hair thinned out my whole life. If I don't get it thinned out, it gets bushy and poufy

Beth Kate: Hi! I'm looking for my first pair of blending scissors, how many teeth would you recommend?? Thank you!

L H: What type of shears for military or faded type of haircuts? I've noticed some stylists use what I would guess is blend shears to blend in the longer top to the fade after buzzing to the skin on the sides and around 3/4" on the top. I've been buzzing my hair to 3/4" and then using a mirror to shave the sides and fade it in myself. Double mirrors to get the back or ask the wife cuz I struggle with the back. Anyways the fade tends to have some longer hairs (3/4") that can fall over the fade afterwards. Need a proper solution and thought maybe this blend shear is it??? Thanks

OnyxFaith aka Chelle: I actually love cutting my own short hair with blending shears.

G Gonz: Worst thing to do to thick hair! I got my haircut and the hair dresser went in with the blending shears and left me with no hair! She didn’t even ask if i wanted my hair thinned out! If she had asked, I would have said HELL NO!

Sincere Presence: Thank you. I have naturally curly hair.

NefFy: ACTUALLY☝Both your shears take out the EXACT same amount of hair. It’s 50%..... (That’s just how comes work with the same amount of ups as downs between the teeth) it’s just a matter of chunky versus fine.

SABRINA CLARK: If this tool should not be used for naturally wavy/curly hair, what should I use? Someone with long naturally wavy hair with the typical triangle, bottom heavy, flat top shape. Need to lose the bulk in the middle to help lift the top up and help make it more manageable. Thanks so much for the videos, extremely informative! ❤️

Rainha Laureta: Evertime i ask a hairdresser around my area to use the shears on my hair they refuse to They say my hair is going to grow out very bulked. Ps. I hv so much volume on my hair (they probably don't know the technique for using it)

Robyn Wolf: Help!!!! I have natural curly hair! I just got all my hair to one length past my lower bra, so all my tight ringlets lay flat w/the correct hair products & I let air dry. Well, I went to to get my color highlight/lowlights done & @ the end the stylist took out those “texture scissors” telling me this will help tremendously w/the weight & thickness of yr natural curly hair of looking like a lioness!” I said, “that’s ok I love that look about my natural curly hair hair, one long layer after the next!” Next thing I knew “he was using them ON MY HEAD!!! WTH! So I saw yr video!!! I was legit crying in the chair!!! I knew once he started there was nothing I could do!!! Can u please tell me what the heck is going to happen now? Yes now my length is gone! My thickness! But, he blew it out straight! Nut I know my hair! I can feel how thinner it is! It’s horrible! I’m freaking out & crying! I know that if it is this short & thin & frizzy straight it is really going to look a mess curly! It took me over 5 years to get my natural curly “all one length & healthy again, ONLY TO HAVE THIS JERK RUIN IT! HE DID WHAT HE WANTED NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR! HOW DO THESE STYLIST EVEN GET THEIR LICENSES?!?!?! He absolutely should not be working on women’s hair! He didn’t know what u said, “right off bat,” about “NEVER USE THISE THINNING SCISSORS ON NATURAL CURLY NOW MY NATURAL TIHHT RINGLETS WILL NOT HAVE THE WEIGHT TO GRIP ONTO & THEY WILL FRIZZ MORE!!! please help me??? What can I do to help fix the mess out??? Please please reply to me??? I’m very very upset. Also, what can I do to this “Stylist??” I paid a lot of money to get thinned out & my hair was so very thick!!! I loved my thick hair! I’m in shock still! My gut was to run just run as soon he did the first cut! Or grab them from him! But my brain said, “oh no no he already started, yr head will look lopsided??” I honestly was in shock!!! But, I didn’t know what u just unveiled? But, I knew in my gut IT WAS WRONG! ALL WRONG! Like a reverse layer! N U NEVER LAYER MY NATURAL CURLY HAIR UNLESS IT’s just a few long layers around the face!! Please tell me is my curly hair going to be like a “bush now” like a “mushroom head” like the old fashion “bob cut” CAUSE I JUST CANNOT DO THAT!! It’s a mess! Like “Edward Scissorhands cut my hair but in a horrid way!

Shari Cook: Great tips

Cassandra De Alba: Wait, don't you have to wet the hair first? I want to make sure because I'm attempting to fix my daughter's hair since my husband just put in a ponytail and cut it straight across shoulder length (her hair was waist long), so now it looks uneven from the back and just unmanageable, she initially wanted her hair short and decided that letting him cut her hair off like that was a great idea for some reason. Her hair is some where in between wavy and straight (Hispanic hair, you can see it alittle on my profile pic where shes hugging her baby bro), I've never cut hair in my life and the other day when I tried practicing on myself I cut my finger pretty bad, so yeah.... Santa Nikkels: I love your texnic

Shocktroop: mind blown

Denise Hites: My shears stopped cutting....I know it sounds stupid....but it's true. It's like the blades aren't matching up or something. No point cutting, no traditional cutting. What do I do? She likes how the texture shears take out the bulk, but she feels the shears is what causes her hair to almost look like she has "fly aways"/"split ends". What can she tell her hairdresser to do to create the style & take out the bulk without creating a problem?
