In this video, I will try to explain 10 reasons why some black women hide their natural afro hairstyles, using a straight or wavy hair wig. In this type of analysis, I will try to talk about all the excuses, reasoning, beliefs, unconscious motivations, suppressed desires, internalized fears, and deep emotions, when a black woman decides not to show her afro hair on the most important day of her life and chooses instead to wear a straight or wavy hair wig, to feel, pretty, accepted, and praised by men.

Many black women prefer to wear long hair wig or wavy hair wig as a way to feel more beautiful and attractive. Other African American women prefer to wear a wig to hide the natural afro pearl, especially the afro kinky hair because it is a style that is in trend. Perhaps this is one of the reasons why black women wear wigs instead of natural afro hairstyles.

Product of racial stereotypes, the need to be accepted, to feel pretty or the fear of being rejected by the texture of the afro hair, many black women in the United States prefer to wear a wig on the most important day of their life. Wig preference which is part of the culture of African American women in the United States.

In this video you will see a series of afro hair style, using natural hair extensions, braids and straight hair wigs, long and short hair wigs, wigs with wavy hair, but also curly hair. Why not? You will also see photographs of beautiful black models, wearing some samples of beautifully treated straightened hair with a straightening iron.

Beautiful images of black women showing the most popular natural afro hair styles right now, which are the hair styles that the great figures of fashion are promoting. If you as a black woman want to have the latest in hair style, be it straight hair or natural hair, risen, ironed or natural, these images of afro hair style will serve as inspiration.

Good morning, everyone, no one, doubts that for any black woman that happy emotion when she considers herself beautiful is important to feel. Perhaps that is why the hairstyle that black women wear is important. It does not matter if she uses a wig extensions or afro hairstyles in this video. We will talk about a question that many people have when talking about african-american women in the united states. We will try to find an answer to the following question: what are the reasons? A black woman wears a wig on the most important day of her life. In this video, i will try to explain the 10 reasons behind this choice, in which some black women hide their afro textured, hair or kinky hair using a straight hair wig. In this type of analysis, i will try to talk about all the excuses, reasoning, beliefs, unconscious motivations, suppressed desires, internalized fears and deep emotions. When a black woman decides not to show her afro hair on the most important day of her life and chooses instead to wear a wig to feel pretty accepted and praised by men from my point of view, the number one reason is searching for social approval, personal Validation and feeling beautiful, but also as a mechanism to avoid the feeling of rejection of afro-hairstyles in a society which imposes the european beauty model, such as all nations colonized by european empires, especially the united states, in a post-slavery multiracial society. Like the united states, black women want to accept it or not. They are pressured to fulfill these ideas of beauty where the phenotypes of the white woman are the idea to follow. Perhaps that is why black women on the most important day of their lives may choose to wear a wig with straight hair as a way to conform to the beauty standards imposed by the group. That is in a position of power. In this case, we are talking about white people. For me, the reason number two is without knowing much about the psychology of women. One of the great challenges that black women face is competition with other women, in which the opinion, good or bad is extremely important. When assessing how beautiful she is in front of friends but also a co-worker, and let's not talk about social media, some psychologists and couples. Counselors think that the opinion of the social group formed by friends have a greater impact on the woman's self-esteem than that produced by the opinions of a black man, black men, who need to please women and everything she wants sometimes even lying to her. There is nothing worse than competition that exists between women to attract the attention of the man she likes, but also to be considered by her friends as a beautiful woman. Let'S talk now about reason, number three: why black women wear wigs when many say that european white women's hairstyles are what is trending now when you look at the latest hairstyles, no one doubts that white women hair is the center of attention. When you look at the latest clothing designs by the most important fashion houses in the world, which is designed taking into account the hair texture of european women, many times black women rationalize the use of straight or wavy wigs as a mechanism to be fashionable and attractive. According to the fashion trends of the moment, many wigs with straight hair they're high costs. From my point of view, it's not worth the thought of making this type of investment as a mechanism to create the illusion of beauty in black women just to satisfy the social expectations of female beauty. Right now, there is a trend in which many black women are showing their natural hair as a mechanism of racial acceptance. Why are few black women not enthusiastic about this type of trend? This lack of support for afro-natural hairstyles, which is the trend of the moment within a group of black community that tell you that the trend of that moment is not the real reason why a black woman uses wavy wigs on the most important day of our life. It is something much deeper than many want to admit now. Let'S talk about reason, number four, which is the pursuit of racial privilege in a multi-racial nation, like the united states, knowing the history of america, we could come to the conclusion that the search for racial privilege is part of the collective conscience in black women. Maybe that's why african american women mostly use wigs black latino women have afro hair straightening as a custom, historically and all post slavery nations, especially when we talk about the united states. The lighter your skin is the more privileges you have, the more you meet the european standards, especially using a straight hair, wig or straightening afro hair. As a black woman, you have the belief that more chance you have to be successful. This is where the use of straight or wavy wigs, and why not the natural afro hair straightening comes into play. The use of straight hair, wigs by african american women and hair straightening by latin black women, are a simple strategy to gain access to racial privileges of those who occupy a high ranking position. There is an emotional reason, personal value and low self-esteem, which is associated with black women. Let'S talk about reason, number five, which is personal insecurity as a black woman in a multiracial nation, afro hair is viewed as demeaning, vulgar, unethical and ugly, a lower class style, but also not accepted in many eurocentric minded societies, as is the case in all post-slave nations, Especially the united states, all those negative stereotypes associated with afro hair, especially the natural kinky hair. It plays an important role in many black women who must wear a straight hair, wig or straighten their hair if they want to be accepted in a position where personal image is an important part of the presentation of the corporate image that the companies want to promote. To the public personal insecurity of some black women plays a fundamental role when presenting the best of themselves in front of the world in which the looks not intelligence is the factor to consider as a result of this personal insecurity of the negroid phenotypes, where afro hair. Now is the norm: many black women try to fulfill the european beauty standards as a way to feel accepted by hiding their natural afro hair. Now, let's talk about one of my favorites wigs and straightened. Hair is much easier to manage than natural kinky hair, which is reason number six why some black women don't use natural hair. Anyone who has dealt with afro hair comes to the conclusion that the texture of natural afro hair requires much more care than straight hair and straightened hair. And let's not talk about the different hair styles that can be used on natural afro hair, which is limited compared to straight or wavy hair, but above all the time and effort it takes to handle afro, textured, hair or afro kinky hair right now, where everything runs Fast black women don't have the time to manage their natural hair when it comes to trying to go to work, a party, a family reunion, and why not a job interview? Maybe that's. Why reason number six is one of my favorites when you analyze the reasons why african american women use wigs and hair extensions and latin black women straighten afro hair, especially the afro hair of young black girls. For this we will talk about reason, number seven, which, from my point of view, is the feeling that you are pretty, but, above all, that you are extremely beautiful. As a woman, there is no better feeling than looking in the mirror and feeling that emotion that you are an extremely attractive woman. You see that smile on your face. You enjoy that feeling of personal satisfaction and how beautiful you feel at that moment. It is a moment that for many can be unforgettable when your insecurity as a woman disappears, because at that moment you consider yourself the most beautiful woman in the world, a good makeup that goes according to your personality and the type of clothes you wear, but especially When you use a white woman's wig, which has a hairstyle which will make you look gorgeous and more, if you are a professional woman, where appearance is important to you, a type of look that makes you look like a sophisticated, confident and modern woman. That kind of sensation is worth millions. Maybe that's why african-american women, no matter what price of wig they use, pay the price with pleasure, not so much because of the wig itself, but because of the emotion of feeling beautiful that it produces in the woman when she looks at herself in the mirror and Everything fits according to plan that feeling of internal happiness when a woman can see that she is extremely attractive according to what is recommended by the fashion style and the trend of the moment. It is a difficult feeling to describe if you are a black woman rejected for being ugly, a woman who, for the first time, feels like the princess in a fairy tale. Now we will focus on reason, number eight, which culture is responsible for this behavior of black women when they use a straight hair wig as a way to meet the beauty standards of the moment. No doubts that european beauty is the standards which is part of american culture right now, just look at the most famous figures in the united states. The hairstyle produced by the straight hair of these famous white celebrities is the model that is in trend in a society. Like the united states, where the popularity of african american female figures, such as artists, actresses political figures, singers, who use straight or wavy, hair wigs, no one doubts the enormous influence that black women have in celebrity positions. Young women who follow their life lifestyle, type of clothing, fashions that are in trend, but above all the hairstyle that these famous figures are wearing. It is normal for girls to also use straight hair wigs. This is where the culture influence is important to understand why a black woman prefers to hide her afro hair and show a straight hair wig, trying to imitate european women. Many young african-american women, for whatever reason, wish to look like those black women who are considered a role model of beauty, black celebrities who all wear wigs of european women. We have to understand that black girls will follow the same steps to feel beautiful as the women they idolize in all post-slavery society. Like the united states, cultural factors are what determine the models of beauty to follow. An american culture which idolizes the beauty of white women and penalizes the beauty of black women, especially afro-textured, hair or kinky hair. This is where the straight hair of white women and what is in trend contrary to afro hair, which many african-american women cover it with a straight or wavy wig as a way to feel pretty. The truth is the use of wigs and hair extensions is part of the culture of african americans in the united states. In the same way, the straightening of afro hair is part of the culture of black women in latin america. When we talk about reason, number nine, we have to talk about the negative feeling that causes being rejected to having natural, afro-textured, hair or kinky hair. It is a reality that many black women don't want to face or feel this is where the social rejection of african hair in the united states, but also in many latin american nations, is an element to consider when using a european straight hair wig as a way To avoid feeling rejected in many societies with the past of slavery, where there is a huge social exclusion of black women, the texture of afro, hair plus skin color are racial characteristics that negatively affect the self-esteem of black women. For some reason, african-american women in the united states see the texture of afro hair as something that prevents them from achieving their goals, dreams and aspirations as a woman, but also the feeling of acceptance. The only way a black woman has access to some jobs is by hiding her natural afro hair, many african-american women as a way to reduce the social exclusion product of skin color and hair texture trying to fill the parameters of social behavior and which the use of Natural afro hair is prohibited or not accepted. The discrimination of afro hair is a factor to understand when a black woman wears a straight hair, wig or straightens her hair discrimination, which is still part of the collective consciousness of many black women in america, which negatively affects self-esteem. Now, let's talk about reason, number 10, which is that black women wear a straight hair wig, because men like it. For me, this conclusion is the product of seeing black men who prefer a white woman and think that straight hair and skin color is the reason for this choice. Many women don't understand that for men, a woman's hair is not the center of attention, but what she has between her two legs asking some black men on this subject, on which i asked the question: do black women look more beautiful with natural hair or with a Straight hair, wig and the answers surprise me when some told me that they never paid much attention to the hairstyle that the black woman wears as long as the hair is well cared for. When a black man looks at a black woman, her physical beauty is a factor to consider, because the most important thing for a black man, not how pretty the black woman is. But how attractive that woman is. It doesn't matter if she wears her natural hair or wear a wig. Many black women, as a mechanism of self-deception, create the idea that they are more attractive to the black man when they wear wig. The truth is black: woman does not use a wig to attract a man. She uses a wig to feel more beautiful accepted, but above all, to avoid the feeling of rejection that natural afro, hair may or may not produce in certain people. Mixed Race Stories: Observing African American women in the hair style that they use the most, no one doubts that many prefer to wear a wig instead of showing natural African hair. There are many reasons for this behavior of black women in the United States in which the need to be accepted, feel beautiful and avoid being rejected for wearing natural afro hair could be some of the reasons. But, the most important thing is how beautiful a black woman feels wearing a wig or showing her natural afro hair, in the end it is what matters most.

Grace Boyce: They dont know how ridiculous how they look in these wigs. Excuses Excuses Excuses. Lack of self love We should appreciate the way how the creator create us. Serious mental health problem . Every nation is laughing at us . We would get more respect if we loved self.

sunnc: I feel more beautiful in my own hair. Wigs that don't match me texture make me feel self conscious tbh.

WELLO: What do you do when you meet that man wearing wig, weave...?? Hide your true self forever... damn that's stressful! Just be yourself!!

Peace & Happiness: I don’t see anything wrong with getting any type of braids extensions(box braids, knotless braids etc) but when you put on a entire wig with a texture that is way different than your own and a part that look unrealistic and stupid that’s where I draw the line. Our hair look way better than these wigs made for other. I’m not talking about people with medical hair condition. I don’t see anything wrong with adding extensions for length with the same texture as your own hair and it’s blended with your hair (naturally/permed). These hair industries are making very good money off our hair insecurity. It’s a business for them!! Wigs costing hundreds of dollars and look who’s selling them Chinese people. Whites making our people insecure and Chinese people are cashing in off that!

Denise: My hair never grew as long and as thick as it did until I consistently wore braids and wigs. When I decided to wear my real hair, people were surprised that I had so much hair. Sometimes it's not about self hate. Our hair is different from everyone else's and thrives best when we don't pull, comb, curl, brush every single day. And let's not talk about the weather... that's murder on our delicate strands.

Vana Phill: What's in your head matters more than what's on it.

Love simple things: Comparing yourself to others or wishing to integrate and be accepted by others and fit in is the road to having no self confidence

Ariana Lovelace: When we start loving ourselves and stop letting the media and conditioning control our perceptions then we will have change.Afro hair is so beautiful my hair is curly semi Afro and it’s natural it’s what my creator gave to me why would I not embrace that.Look after your hair and it will be beautiful.Wearing wigs and weaves is back for your hair

Joe Igber: My wife, who doesn't wear wigs, once told me straight hair is easier to look after. I realized many years ago most women do things for other women, not necessarily for the attention of men. I also learned in my youth, women seek certain attention, so men such as myself can tell them up and down how beautiful they are, but if it's not the man/men they're look for attention from, it doesn't matter. It's too bad other races never purposefully try to recreate afro style, or kinky hair, at least not at the rate our women do. I can remember smelling the searing flesh when my sisters used to use the hot combs and I never understood why, now I have my theories. I'm old enough to realize fashion doesn't necessarily follow logic so I meditate that my daughter and all my beloved black women of all colors are able to feel the love and support they need regardless of how they chose to present themselves

ruby jewel: How tiresome this subject is.Wear wat u want look after your own hair so you can wear that also. Tired of this subject

Guerly Daphnis: I wear wigs because I have alopecia , not for men, not for the society.

Meki s.: It's funny how black women are not the only people to "appropriate " hairstyle; wear wigs and weave, but we're the only group who has to defend the practice.

Dave Jackson: As a PROUD BLACK MAN who LOVES his RACE and adores BLACK women, I can honestly say I do appreciate it when a BLACK WOMAN wears her natural African hair. BLACK WOMEN who told you kinky is not attractive? I absolutely love it when a BLACK WOMAN where's her hair natural, OUR WOMEN are the original QUEENS of the earth without being racist a white woman or any other woman has nothing compared to a natural BLACK SISTA from head to toe furthermore BLACK women come in ALL colors where as a white woman is only PALE who wants that? YUCK!!!

I Am Naturally Blessed: I love my natural hair. I have locs now but I was natural for years. I have very kinky hair and I didn't always embrace my kinky short hair. But now I do. I still wear kinky units when I want to change my look. I use to wear straight hair wigs, but I don't anymore. I wear only kinky hair wigs because it mimics my natural hair. But my locs are not a trend, my locs is the way of life for me and I'm lovin' what God gave me, very beautiful kinky hair.

Stylish 101: I wore a wig with my curl textured everyday to work for easy maintenance, when I wore a straight wig I got more compliments than I did with the kinky curl I wore ! So it’s society that gives black women the low self esteem about ourselves.

Cori Lia: Well as a white woman, i have moderately naturally curly hair and i always wanted to have that long golden straight hair of the 70s. I did do extensions in my 30s and i did feel like a queen with the longer hair but the reality is, that has to come out. Now my hair is still curly but about shoulder length. I think society makes us believe that the longer your hair is the more beautiful you are. I do think some black women rock the wigs. And many men like it too but you gotta just do what makes you feel good. The girl in the white hat in this video is really naturally pretty. But all of these women are stunning. Just be you.

That Girl: We don't need wigs, our hair is the strongest of all and our hairstyles are unlimited ..our hair us limited like clay and their hair is more like sand ..it doesn't hold its shape where our hair does.

KALEIDO jess: If I was dark skinned and had four c hair I’d still wear my hair natural. Wigs and extensions are uncomfortable and not worth it at all. Natural hair is way prettier IMO. I remember when I straightened my hair in high school and got compliments, I went straight back to curly and felt good. Why do we care so much about what people think ?

Anna: Afro kinky hair is not limited, it’s the most versatile hairstyle out of all hairs. It allowed for many styles. I love my hair

Wadlyne Charles: Good question, growing up, wigs were worn mostly by elderly women, over the years I've noticed a shift....

Ella H: Great video! Very accurate!

Aliyah Harmon: It all circles back to insecurity. Justified insecurity. My hair is big and long. I get a lot of questions how I got my hair to the point it’s at now and I’ve even inspired some to go natural or focus on hair care for their real hair.

Teresa Regu: As a Woman... It's doesn't matter whether you were black, white, orange, blue... Wearing wigs or not every woman got her freedom and every woman is always beautiful.. Never think negative on every woman because they are beautiful and amazing ❤️

WELLO: I ROCK MY NATURAL KINKY DARK AUBURN CURLS... I'VE TRIED PROTECTIVE HAIR STYLES BUT CAN'T DEAL WITH THAT EXTRA HAIR ON MY HEAD... WAAAAAY TO HEAVY CAUSING DAMAGED ENDS.... WIGS ARE WORSE...

Abhinab Dutta: The author consistently puts emphasis on European beauty standard but never highlights the low acceptance of obesity (a.k.a plus size/curvy) traits. Selective narrative at best.

sunny cookie: There is no illusion of beauty even you are or you're not there's nothing wrong with accentuating what you already have there is nothing wrong with that overdoing it no you shouldn't overdo it but to accentuate that's why they make makeup the Egyptians will make up and wigs love yourself take care of yourself and don't worry about what other people think about you

Sydney Pettrone: It's not just European beauty standards.. Every other race of people on this planet (except for black) for the most part has hair that lays down.

Vana Phill: I wear wigs to protect my natural hair. I do rock my natural when the mood strikes.

Is Blessed: Rephrase…why do SOME black women wear wigs

Nancy Mosby: What is the most important day if their lives ?

Kenia Sharpe: Chiiiiile I can not stop watching these videos

Patricia Brooks: That’s not true to me a love my kinky hair. I will wear a wig when I have a bad hair day. I never had a men tell me that he didn’t love my natural hair. No matter what race he is he loved me for me. I love the skin I’m in no matter what I put on my head. This is your opinion cause black women was not allowed to wear their natural hair at work. They just pass the law that we can wear our natural hair. So this opinion is absolutely not the reason I never had a low self-esteem about Myself. All black women are not the same, please you are not speaking for all Black women.

Aviyah Chaverim: I disagree. Many women of all skin shades wear wigs. The only way to know why is to ask. I feel, it's really no one's business as to why a person decides to wear a wig. I find it very interesting that only women of color are questioned for this practice when it began in Europe and Asia. It was chick to wear ponytail falls or hair pieces not long ago but now that women of color have fun exploring different hairstyles, it's somehow taboo? Some may wear our of shame for their natural texture but some wear wigs simply because they love the versatility and ease of donning a beautiful hair unit. After all, who doesn't enjoy a good hair day?? Once again, the question is posted. Why can't we simply live and let live. I'm sure each one has enough issues in their own lives to be so concerned about what someone else is doing with their own head. Smh

SharronLovesYah: Our ancestors before the slvry era wore wigs as well, and they were of royalty. Learn your history. Why should this even be a topic? We are the only people who air our laundry in public. Let people wear the hairstyles they choose. Stop trying to put your reason why you need Blk women to wear their hair as yours. Think about it. Are you confident in being you? If you were, you would not do such videos. America did a number on us. There is NO natural hair v. straight, extension, weave. Stop!!!

Tribe of Judah Lion (Zion): *You're not going to get to many sister on this Comment Section self hate is a mofker Koreans making a killing off our sister and the Koreans don't even wear weave and eyelashes *

Catherine Jones: all weman wear wigs and have been wearing them since the beginning of time it's not just a black think it's just what a person want so if you want to west your. natural hair that'd fine but wigs are afro are braids are bald what ever you want him m 58 years old in the 70 s we wore afros in the 80s geri curls but we always wore wigs to because we want to not because of low self-esteem so for the world look at jada pinkett she is beautiful with no hair so wemen wear what you want

Linda Avant: Why are we talking about hair, when our schools and neighborhoods are a mess.... I don't care if one decide to wear , what ever....!!!!! WE ARE NOT OUR HAIR.....!!!

Jacquelyn Ramsey: It is easier to change a look and work with an outfit. Other women besides Black women wear wigs.

sheila grayman: Ironically, a natural hair black woman with pure confidence has got the admiration of many white European men here in Europe than in the States. Although many white American men are married to highly melanated black women! Confidence. CONFIDENCE IS THE KEY!❤

Grace Harris: I. Love. My. Self. And. I. Wear. Wigs.

latoya ramnarine: L know that care for our hair is lot of work for us one thing taken of in night L use olive oil . L all of you and hair tell lot about culture

L H: Why? Bc they dont take the TIME to take care of their REAL HAIR

Just RED: Why are wigs a problem? I wear wigs because I think some wigs are pretty…and why would anyone care about my wigs? It’s stupid..

brandyrama1: Our African culture calls for the covering of hair, using a wig, automatically does that stylishly. Second, the European or American weather is not the ideal weather to display black hair as it will damage it break it, so it cost lots of time and energy, products to display the hair. Further, women of all races use wigs or hair extensions, so people should stop targeting African women's hair.

Terrance Watson: Black women been wearing wings since their EGYPTIANS year

ISLANDGURL: Wigs been around since ancient days. Can we all agree to disagree. This is so overdone. I don't use relaxers to make my hair European looking. I don't want the same hair as white women. Their hair smells when it gets wet. Then they are prone to getting lice infestations in their hair whether dirty or clean. I may use a relaxer only to get some contol in maintaining my hair. That is it and that is all! Wear your hair that grows from your scalp proudly. But don't put us all in the same box. Maintaing 4c hair is not wash and go hair no matter how anyone puts it. It takes me at least two hours to detangle, get out knots and or try to unmatt my hair on wash days. Our hair is unique, wonderful and beautiful. But reality is it is not easy hair. Even some naturals don't tell everyone that they might use a texturizer to make their hair more manageable. Please don't be another natural hair nazi. I am tender headed and always been since a child and laughed at by my siblings and others when my mother combed out my hair. It was painful and sometimes left my head sore because many bw don't know how to come out their children who are tender headed hair because of scalp sensitivity. Natural hair and tender headedness is why our children cry and it is a real thing to them to experience pain from pulling, combing. I know bc I am tender headed as a child and an adult. I wish we had some engineers to study our unique hair and help us to better take care of it without it being time consuming if it were possible. Let us all just breathe and be.

K C: Sad

Lynne Hood: Don't follow...LEAD

Fashionjoy: I disagree with many things about this video. I am a 100% African btw. We have no time to deal with our kinky hair as many of us don’t know how and don’t have access to professional salon to take care of that specific hair. I am always looking forward rocking my natural hair during summer and feel always beautiful with them. This have nothing to do with slavery, white or whatever. Why do Americans always talk about this. So boring!

dark matter: Why is this a mixed raced issue?...... who laughing at yall hair

Vana Phill: The founding fathers wore wigs!

maureen bennett: Not only black women wear weave white women also wears it’s just that it’s not noticeable because of their hair texture. I myself have never worn a weave or wig because I have beautiful thick curly hair which I inherited from my dad who is dark skinned

C.J. Sales: WHY can’t people just leave us alone! If you want to change your look or enhance it with hair accessories they are there for you! Get off off the BLACK WOMEN and our choices, it’s NONE OF your business what other people wear or why they wear it! If you have your own issues you need to seek therapy if you choose to do so. Humans have been wearing hair pieces since people began to,wear CLOTHES! COME ON SOMEBODY!

Maria James: WHAT IS THIS MESS?! ALL RACES WEAR WIGS AND MEN WEAR THEM TOO

Daisha Jones: I understand the history but currently I've been natural for 5+ years. Im 100% black, my hair is butt length, and after experimenting for years on my hair, getting a silk press keeps my hair detangled and throughly moisturized for the longest period of time. My goal was an afro but my 4c hair is an outrageous amount of upkeep at its length especially during the summer. Crochet protective styles, braids, and wigs are what get me by day to day and i get them all to look like my own hair so straight styles and curly styles. Do whats best for you and take care of yourself!
