Part 2 of 2 on how to crochet a Kokeshi Doll. I originally designed this Kokeshi Doll in order to sell the pattern and the doll's themselves to raise money for Japan after the tsunami and earthquake. I managed to raise over £200 which was fantastic.

Now the doll pattern is available for free here: https://www.happyberry.co.uk/free-croc... as I don't have the ability to make them on scale anymore. The video tutorial to this pattern has been highly requested so here at last I bring you my Kokeshi Doll pattern. I hope you enjoy!

So for the hair bun parts we're using the black again same hooking everything and we're going to do 10 single crochet into a magic circle again. So it's actually the same as the hair and the head starting off the same, such a 10 single crochet or Magic Circle and, like I said before, you can chain 4 slip stitch into your first chain and then what the 10 single crochet is left. Loop 10 single crochet right one at 10:00 and pretend and then we're going to slip stitch in our first single crochet. Two joints check. I'Ve got 10 2, 4, 6, 8, 9 and is 10.20 top. I can't even see myself so black there we go and just work a slip, stitch like so, and pull your tan end to close that hole best. You can and then exact at the same for the main part, the hair, we're going to do two single crochet in the next stitch and then we're going to do two single crochet in each stitch around so we're doubling up to 20. So that's one single crochet in the next stitch and another one in the same stitch and in the next stitch we did two single crochet in the next stitch as well since one and another one in the same stitch, so you're doubling up so just do two Single crochet into each stitch around until you've got 20 stitches same as before, 19 and 20. So by in the background, you should have 20 stitches and then we're just going to do two rounds of just one single crochet in each stitch around so you're keeping the stitch count of 20. So we just do one single crochet in the next stitch and then one single crochet in each stitch around you just doing one single crochet in every stitch to keep your stitch count of 20 and we'll do that for two rounds and 20 okay. So I've done two rounds of one single crochet in each stitch around, so you've still got a stitch count of 20 and then on the next rounds. We'Re going to do one single crochet in the next stitch and then we're going to single crochet two stitches together. So we go into the next stitch, grab your yarn and it's the next stitch and grab your yarn. So you got three loops yarn over pull through all three loops and we're going to repeat that again until the last two stitches. So we do one single crochet in the next stitch just by itself and then in the next stitch, I'm gon na over the next two and a single crochet two together, so you go into the next stitch. Grab your yarn and it's the next stitch grab your yarn. It took three loops you'll, neither pull through all three loops, so just repeat that doing one single crochet and single crochet 2, together, one single crochet single crochet, two together until the last two stitches, 17 and 18, with single crocheting together and then the last two 19 And 20, the last two stitches we're just going to do one single crochet in then last to the second look to last one: we do one single crochet by itself and then a very last stitch we're doing one single crochet by itself as well. Okay, that brings your stitch count down to fourteen, and what we're going to do now is I'm going to leave a tail quite long tail, because we're going to use it to sew up going on to our main hair. So just pull that pull that and what we're going to do is we're just going to try and close up hold as best as we can. I'M going to stuff a little bit of twist stuffing join my table, so creaky I'm going to stuff our bun okay. So when you're happy stuffing your bum we're going to sew a bun on to our hair, so take your hair off. First, I'm going to do is get rid of tail so that in the main hair part and to do that just going to come from the outside and then back up just to keep the shape on, keep a nice crisp corner and then we're just going to Sew through on the inside a little bit like practice for few more little stitches enough to be perfect, it's not going to see and trim excess. You can trim down the larger one. If you wanted yes right so then we take our bun and sew. The tail end onto yarn needle and what you want to do is we don't want to sew it right on the top of them. Put it just to the back slightly at an angle like so to make it look a little bit more natural and all I'm going to do is just sew through to the inside and then come back up and then threw the bum. The next stitch. Y'All needles. Come on it's coming up through the bun and then back down, that's stuffing on the inside, so come back up through the bun and then we're going to go back down for the main hair onto the inside. Like so and then just come back up again through the bun um and then back down through the hair, and it's complete copy that just repeat that all the way around to get back to the beginning and your bun is securely in place. Okay, so when you finish sewing that on I'm just going to trim our talent, let me hidden on the inside and it should look there in something like I'm going to do now. Is I'm just going to hide this talent on the actual doll as well? Can you turn that off and then we're going to start working on the hair accessories? Just take this to the inside confusions trim the excess. So here we go so we're going to work on now. Is some hair accessories? I'M going to work some simple wraps around her bum, so it's just stunned her up kick and so I'm going to take. I think I will take mmm color schmooze. This is where you got to think about your colors. So I'm going to do some green and some white. I just want to take some short length of one of your colors and short lengths of another color bout. I need a huge amount like just a couple of short lengths and we're just going to wrap these wrap this around her bun couple of times. That'S tie those into place so just wrap it round and then finds place and do another knot. This just adds decoration and it was good shrim. It'S a nice spike up might say there we go okay, so we're going to do that once more like say and then in the middle, we're going to be putting some little rose, petals and a little fan as well. So, let's work on the rose petals, so we're going to get all pink and make the rose petals we're going to do is we're going to chain six take off pink a little pink rose petals, so I'm going to using the same hook we're just going chain. Six, so that's one two, three four five and six, and then we're going to do one single crochet in the second stitch from a hook. So we don't count this loop on a hook. There'S our first stitch. So there's all seconds we're not! Second, I'm going to do one single crochet like that, then we're going to do two half double crochet in the next stitch, so in the next chain. Long and do two half double crochets to do. First, one and you're on over again go back into the same stitch beyond pull through all three to do a half double crochet. So that's two half double crochets in the next stitch, then the next stitch we'll do three double crochet through yarn over again into the next stitch, do double crochet. We do another double crochet in the same stitch like in the same stitch, do another double crochet. Then we do a another double crochet in the same stitch. Okay, now I'm going to do two half double crochets in the next stitch, so yarn over go into the next stitch beyond yarn over pull through three four, a half double crochet and we do another half double crochet your new book and same stitch and inve last Stitch that last chain we're going to do a single crochet, and I want to do the slip stitch in there as well. So going back into the same stitch, I'm going to do a slip stitch there. We go just trim just leaving enough tail to sew all through and there's our little little rose, petal, which should curl round into a little rose, petal mini rose, petal, and all we're going to do is we're going to sew both of these ends onto our hat. So I'm going to pop pop 1/2 again, so you can work a bit easier, so we're going to take one end of our rose. Petal sense: why yarn needle then we're going to do is we're going to go into the middle so where those knots are we're. Just going to go into the hair in the middle in there come out for the bottom, and then we do the other end and go down there as a while making a short keep with tassels in the right direction. Let'S give back through out for the bottom, then all we need to do is double knot this on the inside. It'S nice and easy. They all quit sewing it's all hidden when just got our hair so again make sure that's nice and tight on the inside double knot and just trim the excess I trimmed ahead and there we go. There'S our little little rose. Petal make sure all spikes face. My thing my way so there we go, I'm gon na do another one of these and it just put it to the other side and then I'll come back and show you how to do a little fun. Okay, okay, so I just repeated those same steps to make another little rose petal and I've just shown that through and double knotted it on the inside and one gon na do now is I'm going to make a little fan as well? So I think we'll make the fan in white filling some yeah and to make the fan we're going to work seven single crochet into a magic circle. So again, you could chain four slip: stitch into your first chain to form a loop and then with the seventh single single crochet into that loop. We'Re going to use the Magic Circle, so do a little dummy stitch and then work, seven, single crochet, one and seven, and then we're going to pull to tighten and we're going to slip stitch to join so check. We'Ve got seven two four six and seven so put your hook into that first single crochet and then work a slip, stitch. Okay! So then, we're going to chain three one, two three like so, and then we're going to turn right back in the opposite direction, and this is going to counter the stitch, these three chains as a double crochet and we're going to do a double crochet in the Next stitch: they're, not the stitch here at the bottom of all chains, because this is going to count as our double crochet. So in the next stitch, I'm going to do a double crochet so yarn over and we do a double crochet in there. Then we'll do a double crochet in the next stitch as well and the next stitch, and in the next stitch you and in the next stitch as well, and a double crochet in the next stitch, which is going to be our last stitch so you're technically chain. Three and turn turned and then you've worked one double crochet in the next six stitches, so you've got seven in total, including your chains and then we're going to cut our yarn a little bit bring back in here. I'M just going to pull that through and what we want to do this piece of yarn in middle just need to get to the other side, so get our yarn needle I'm just going to sew it roughly to the other corner there. So we get done over and then the other end. I just want to come in from behind and then just up just in that thick a bit of yarn and then what that does. Is that sort of knots it into place and there's our fan. So all we need to do now is just sew. This onto our hair make sure it's facing like right. The way round, I'm going to slot it in between the two petals so and so one end into the hair, just like we did for the rose petals, bring that through the middle and then take the other end and come over this side a little bit. Maybe she'll not get in the way of our little tassels so that through as well, take off our yarn needle it's going to tie this tie this in a double knot. Nice and tight trim the excess from inside house, and there is our little fun just shake that. So there we go, I've got a little rose, petals a little fan, little spiky bits and there's our finished hair accessories like so. If you're fat and we're going to do now is we're going to work on her body parts we're going to keep the hair just to one slide. For now we're going to work on the band that goes around the middle of her little kimono and do that we're going to get what colors are we going to use? I think I shall use the white the dark, pink, okay, so taking the white yarn, I'm gon na use white yarn going to chain 28 so going to chain 28, one to 27 and 28, and then we're going to do one double crochet in the fourth stitch. From hook so yarn over to do a double crochet and we don't count this loop on a hook, there's our first second third and fourth. So, in our fourth stitch, from hook, we're gon na do a double crochet and I'm going to do a double crochet into each stitch. That'S the beginning supposed to need to chain along do a double crochet. Let'S go pups the last one: okay, so I'm one double crochet in each stitch along we're going to join our next color and it's a little chain one. So, instead of chaining one with the white we're going to chain one with our dark pink, I think I'm not going to count this as a stitch and then we're going to turn we're going to work. A single crochet in that first stitch like so, and I'm just going to work one single crochet into each stitch along back in the other direction. Okay, just go up to the last one. It always looks like you've got to the end. There is actually another little stitch on the end there we go, then we just trim down to the side and then all we do is choosing which side you want to have at the front, as we then just put that round out of the keshe doll, we're Going to use the tail ends to sew this into place just to sew these together, so example get one of these pink ones and we'll just say that to the other side, okay, and just keep using the end pieces to sew together, we use the pink for That bit top half and then we use one of these white turns this one to join the white. So just repeat doing this until it's nicely sewn together for the pink you can get another and then when you're happy just hide the tail ends. Okay, so I've finished just hiding in all the tail ends. I just sewed through the similar color and then just trim the excess off. What I'm going to do now is going to work on some eyes so making sure your sowings at the back can do I'm going to take a short length of our black yarn same yarn. We use for the hair and taking a yarn needle all we're going to do and there's some really simple eyes and we're going to do is okay need to come up from the inside making sure that's at the back, and I think or in the middle row. I think about this row. Here'S that sort of the middle looks like the middle row. The bottom of the middle row is where I'm going to work the eyes and we're just going to do to the lines either side just to make it look like she's got her eyes closed and she's thinking. She look very peaceful, but she's been there relaxing doing some flower arranging being very peaceful. So there we go and come up on the inside. It'S about awesome that middle row going over about, say about two stitches who's going to go back in and then we're going to skip one two three four about four stitches and bring the needle back out again like that and that creates amplify and then going over A couple of stitches again put the needle back in and then we're going to come up through the bottom, just feed that out through the bottom, making sure lots of catch anything and then just pull that through and there we have it and you can just either Trim a little bit of these Jim, a bit of the black yarn off and just shove, the rest up into the head like so, and there we have our little eyes and that's all that's needs to be done and in fact I do believe that is it. So we can put our hair back on make sure it's nicely positioned and all it's left to do is to stand her up and she's complete. So there we go, got all the hair accessories, little rose petals and the fan and a little hair up in a bun there, she's she's finished. So I hope you enjoyed that tutorial. I hope it wasn't too long. I hope you manage to follow along. There is a written version of this on my website at happy, berry, dot, k, dot, UK and I'm also going to put a written version on my blog as well.
