Hey so what's going on, i'm so excited that you are here watching this video, because i need to share a few things with you that you may not have known about your hair care products currently in your house as a cosmetic chemist, i've seen a lot. I'Ve done a lot and i could show you guys some things that actually might make your life a little bit more easier, and maybe some things that you just did not know about you know so stay tuned. Okay number one now this may vary depending on the brand, but you ever notice how a lot of hair care brands will have different lines of product under that one brand. So let's say susie has a natural hair care brand and she has her mango line in her shave. Butter line a lot of times the conditioner, the leave-in, and sometimes the moisturizer all will have the same face. We call them chassis, okay, they'll have the same type of formulations like very similar formulas between those three cream based products. So i will say this: if you are trying to decide if you want to invest in the conditioner they'll leave it in the moisturizer start off with, like the leave-in conditioner. If you like, the leave-in conditioner, more than likely, you are going to end up liking, the conditioner and possibly the moisturizer as well, because of the bases of those formulas are pretty similar. Once again, this will vary based off the brand based off the product, but that's just a quick little tip in regards to trying to see what will work and what won't work for you, and so you don't have to like. You know, waste your money on stuff. You don't think so. Yeah, that's number one all right number, two, a lot of your products are multifunctional, which is really awesome, especially when you run out of something or you're like i'm in the shower. I left my such and such in the closet. I ain't trying to get out because i'm cold, you know you know if i'm not like being showered rich, i got your shampoo can also be used as body wash really yes now. Should it completely replace your body wash no, but in the case that you forget your body wash, you can totally use your shampoo, because your shampoo has cleansing surfactant that are designed to remove dirt and oil off of the scalp, and our scalp is awesome skin. So when you are washing your body in the shower, you can use that shampoo as well, because this is skin next is conditioner, so you can totally use your conditioner as a leave-in conditioner and sometimes a moisturizer as well. Now. This is only in the case. If you are using a regular, moisturizing conditioner, if this is like a protein conditioner, i would not recommend it, but regular conditioners, totally use as a leave-in or even a moisturizer as well. On top of that, you can also use your conditioner as shaving green shaving. Cream is actually very similar also to a conditioner. You have some fatty alcohols. You have some glycerin in there to moisturize the skin. You have water as the first ingredient. So if you ever brought a shaving cream in the shower, you know put some little conditioner on and good to go. Okay and the next is oils. So, like your favorite hair oils, of course, you guys know can be substituted as body oil as well. Now we'll say this: if your hair oil has like peppermint oil in there essential oils are designed to grow the hair. You may not want to put that on your body because your body is going to start to grow some hair unless you wanted to you know understand, but for the most part, if you want to use your hair oil as a body oil, you completely completely can But just make sure there's no like hair growth, actives or oils in there, because you just might not want that. Okay, so number three. I don't think this is talked about too often, but a lot of times. You know a lot of you guys are adding things to your conditioner, to your moisturizer, to enhance it and make it better. That is great. That is completely fine, however, depending on what you are adding, they can actually mess up the preservation system of the formula. Every water-based formula has some type of preservation system within it to make sure that no bacteria mold yeast growing in there. Now, if you're, just adding things like oil to a conditioner, you know like adding the conditioner to like a bowl, adding your oils mixing it up. Putting in your hair, that's completely fine! Now, if you are taking a jar of a hair mask or a conditioner and you're, pouring water like an aloe vera juice or some type of water based ingredient into that formula, mixing it up and kind of just keeping it and storing it somewhere and not just Using it one time like a one-time use, you could potentially be introducing microbes into that formula, which is not good. So i would say this if you want to enhance your conditioner in some way, stick to more of the oils and stick to really just separating it from the main vessel or the main jar or bottle of the conditioner. Just to make sure the preservation system is not being compromised. Speaking of preservatives number four is something interesting. You guys should know is that your oils are not going to have preservatives within them, so any type of hair growth, oil, regular hair oil, whatever oil typically is not going to have the preservative within it only because there's no water in the formulation. However, a lot of the oils that you guys do purchase for your hair, especially it's like a blend of oils from like a hair care brand, will have vitamin e within it and that's because oils will go rancid over time. But vitamin e within that formula helps those oils to kind of delay the process of going rancid. It kind of inhibits it. For the most part, the vitamin e is an antioxidant and it's the oxidation that causes those oils to go bad over time. So your oils are not gon na, have a preservative which is okay, because once again, water is what introduces microbes into the formula. But the absence of water is very difficult for microbes to grow in an oil environment. Okay and last but not least, is functional. Ingredients are better than marketing ingredients. If you have been part of curly chemistry, if you have purchased my ebook, you already know what i'm upset you right now. Okay, but if you don't know, i'm always going to say this when you're looking for hair care products, you want to learn the functional ingredients. The functional ingredients are typically the first five or six ingredients on the ingredient list. Those are typically the the workhorse the performance ingredients in that formula. That'S giving you the effect that you want a lot of times. We purchase things based off of the marketing, for example, pineapple blueberry, coconut shampoo. You know strawberry, watermelon moisturizer. You know that sounds pretty. That sounds great. It sells that's wonderful. However, i want to make sure that you guys are purchasing with intelligence of knowing what you are putting on your hair. That'S really going to give you the effect and the performance that you want. So functional ingredients like the ones listed here are going to be more ideal for your hair, especially for curly hair. So look for things like that in the ingredients list and like i said, marketing is okay, but you know functional is where it's at all right guys. We have reached the end of this video. I hope you guys enjoyed this video and learned something new. I have a question for you, of course, because i just you know, have questions um. I love you guys so much and i'll see you guys soon. Bye, you

Alisha: I’m absolutely thrilled about all the cosmetic chemists, the dermatologists, trichologists, chemical scientists, that are coming forward with what they know so we can all move past the using products that influencers recommend based on their lack of knowledge. So happy about it

Jessie Landsburg: Best piece of hair advice for me was to use plant gels to “seal” my hair instead of oil. So marshmallow root, slippery elm, aloe vera and more help me moisturize my hair and detangle better than any other ingredients I’ve used. I can also re-moisturize easier after a few days if needed. Still use oils, just not for sealing in moisture.

Ashley Williams: Best hair advice I’ve received was to leave my hair alone! I’ve been protective styling way more (twists and cornrows). I’ve been able to retain length and I’ve seen way less breakage! Also, I really enjoy Ayurveda in general for my hair. I’ve definitely seen less shedding and stronger hair!

Ms Ms: Learning about porosity that is a game changer and the pH level of hair.

iAmLeslieJones: “Try the no heat challenge for 1 year.” It’s been 8 years and I haven’t pressed my hair yet. I’m in love with my curls.

Umeca Douglas: The best advice I can give is to "love" your hair. The healthiest my hair has ever been was when I had a beautician who loved my hair. I had never experienced seeing my hair flourish that much because I never met anyone before or after her that loved my hair. Anything you love and nurture will grow that's not what I heard it's what I KNOW! Some people say leave your hair alone...yes it will grow but learning to accept, embrace and love your hair will make it thrive. It's a struggle with the difficulty of managing my natural hair but that's my goal.

ZeeCurlGirl: I always try the DC first and if I don’t like that I don’t buy anything else from the line. When products “stop working” it could be that your hair’s needs have changed. “Listening” to my hair’s needs instead of just using the same products over and over and over has helped me keep my hair suuuuper shiny, bouncy, and healthy

Tamago: 1/ you're glowing 2/ I'm always learning so much with you 3/ Could you do a video about protein because I'm so lost and scared of using it even though I feel my hair needs it (thin and high porosity... I think ?) 4/ Thank you for your amazing contribution to the society ❤️

Ivy Alston: Best hair advice has been "get a hair routine" ---thank you for all your scientific hair knowledge that you provide

Jahnell Rich: This knowledge right here is EVERYTHING. Especially the functional ingredients part which I will most certainly be referring to when purchasing hair care products from now on. Best hair advice I got was to STOP using relaxers on my hair. I have been natural for awhile and though it has been difficult dealing with my hair in its natural form my hair has been able to grow and overall become healthy and strong without the creamy crack.

SkyeTheBlueOwl: Ive actually been using my conditioner as shaving cream since i ran out of shaving cream and locked my hair (stopped using conditioner on hair). It's nice to feel validated ☺

Maimunah Nuru: Best advice i received was 'oil is not a moisturizer' . Changed my hair game for good

Sable 711: Love your hair and your blouse! Since I have low porosity hair, best tip I have been given since I can't seem to open the cuticles with warm water because the water won't stay warm is to moisturize my hair and then apply a plastic cap for 15 to 20 minutes. The moisture gets in, yay!

Raa E: Using good old fashion hair grease to lock moisture into my hair.

ThePhoenix217: It was an expensive journey back to natural hair. Research is paramount. The very basic ingredients and what works for your hair is a gem! Thanks!

Candice Famber: 2 amazing pieces of advice. 1. You don't need both a rinse-out conditioner and a deep conditioner/mask. The rinse-out conditioner basically blocks the deep conditioner from working. 2. Keep your hair clipped or twisted away in sections during the ENTIRE wash day process until you are styling. It's tedious, but it prevents you from having to re-detangle your hair if you have already detangled prior to shampooing.

Eliza Rose: Hydral fatigue was ruining my hair. Your channel taught me what that was and now my hair is thriving!

Ali HC Gardening: Hey girl been following you for about 6 years now, love your content relaxed and natural:)

Toyin Aina: best advice 1. Prepooing & washing my hair in twists 2. maintaining a good moisture/ protein balance GAME CHANGERS!

Memi M: Great video chocablock with loads of useful info, as always. The best advice I got was from my sister (natural, twa, uses a sponge to enhance her coils and curls). I was new to natural hair, had a twa, loved her hair, tried her regimen and sponge method, but my hair just wouldn't coil up like hers. I do badly wanted it to look like hers, but it just wouldn't cooperate. One day, as I was woefully complaining about my hair, my dear sister looked at me and just gently said, "you must learn to love and work with the hair that grows out of your own head instead of wishing it was like the hair growing out of someone else's." So that's what I did, and she was right, the moment I stopped wishing I had her hair, I started to embrace, work with, understand and finally love my own. Her advice DEFINITELY worked. But my sister sure is wise like that. ❤️

My-Yoshi: Best advice....Cocunut Oil is not the devil and bad for low porosity hair. I've avoided it for years and recently added it back, especially in a pre poo and I love it! I was using it all wrong in the past and now I know how to use it properly. Best pre poo for my daughter to remove tangles and shed hair after a protective style. I fancy it up by infusing amla and its a win win.

Lizzie Clay: Hey Curly Chemistry, The best advice I actually received was telling myself to go natural and it's one of the best decision I made other than getting saved. I bought your curly girl guide and so happy I did. Thank you for all you do.

Genia Seavers: Best advice is putting on leave-in conditioner in the shower and put on a shower cap until you style. GAME CHANGER! It locks in that moisture like buttah!

Eva Capri: My best advice was deep conditioning. It completely changed the way my hair behaved. Then when I learned about moisture protein balance that really took my hair to another level.

_khepera_: Best Advice: wash hair often: at least once a week. My hair needs/loves water... @CurlyChemistry Thanks so much for this video! How should we manage our water spray bottles? Store in the fridge? Empty and refill each time? Sterilize weekly if left sitting out?

Tucsha: Best advice I received was : always pre poo, form a hair regime and stick to it, deep condition every wash day, know ur porosity, put leave in on in the shower, detangle with slippery products, and know ur ingredients !

Carol Harper: Love this video. Thank you for sharing. The best piece of advice I got was to put your conditioner, deep conditioner and leave in while in the shower. Because you moisturize and hydrate the hair. Then sit under a heated cap or hooded dryer for 30 to 45 minutes. And I have seen a difference.

Lucy Lemmons: Yes for the functional ingredients! Best advice has been from your channel and Green Beauty. Thank y'all.

AwesomeAJ: using rice water as a pre poo, or olive oil, using castor oil to seal in moisture, keep ends sealed and tucked away, adding heat while I deep condition, using satin or silk pillow cases, writing down my routine to help figure out what works how and why.

CShemica: Great video per usual. Best hair advice I received was to cover my leave-in with a plastic cap for a few minutes to let it marinate... Being lo-po it has been a game changer on how my stylers perform.

NeNe. Portier: The best piece of advice that I have received for my natural hair is stick to the basic of hair care. Water, leave in conditioner, grease. I have been doing this for the past year on my 4th big chop and I see results. The first 3 times I did the big chop and listening to all this YouTube natural hair people got me nowhere. Keep it simple with the hair care and you will see results

Apara: Yup. I use shampoo that didn't work for my hair (and I cant return) as hand soap, and I use the conditioner as shaving cream. Best advise I received was to treat your leave in as a deep conditioner...meaning, put it on and sit under a dryer with a cap for bit, before styling. Ever since I've learned that, I never experienced dried out hair. I never have to remoisturize in between wash days .

Naturally Crowned By Novella : Love this! For me, purchasing products based on my hair needs and functional ingredients has been a game changer for my hair.

¡Shawny!: I'm so glad you answered the oil question! Omg!!! Girl I'm ready to create & market this diy oil that I use, with you!!!!

Faith Ogumka: Best advice I that improved my hair journey game is pre-pooing and deep conditioning. Thanks for always sharing great content . I add peppermint or eucalyptus oil to my body lotion because I love the soothing feel... but now I am laughing because I imagine having wide hair growth on my body

Shakeela: Best advice ever - using film forming humectants like aloe vera and marshmallow root

CurlyV SeedStar: JBCO was the best advice ever given to me when it comes to hair!!! It is the best oil for curly hair you just need to learn how to use it plus it gets use to so patience is key but it is an amazing oil for strength, elasticity, growth, any scalp issues, shine anything

Rachelle88xoxo ohwhu: Awsome video as always! :) I started implementing hair grease to seal my hair and it has been doing wonders for moisture retaintion

Tiana Nadirah: The BEST advice that I've received was to read ingredients on hair care products & once I completely cleaned my hair/scalp from over the counter ingredients & started using clay washes, & organic vegan deep conditioners, leave ins & stylers my hair hasn't thrived like this ever ‍♀️Ambunu is amazing also

Cherimor: Best advice was to create a hair regimen for myself. It’s definitely working! I have fine high porosity hair that’s doing very well. Tried to pass it on to my daughter but she said it looked like too many steps lol.

Wild Storm: Best piece of advice : do what works for your hair, by experience, not what you're TOLD what works for your hair. Example: I've had countless people tell me to brush my hair. Why? I have curly hair! I've had people tell me I have no business putting oils into my hair. Again, why? My hair is coarse, tangle, frizzy, and curly. I've had to ignore cultural based advice (umm, I'm white, and in my community I'm expected to have "straight" hair) but argan oil for hair and shea butter for my scalp eczema , plus satin sleep coverage (hair wraps, pillowcases ) have literally helped me turn my dreads into locks. I've had to ignore every in personal advice I've been recieving my whole life and learn to love and listen to my hairs needs.

NaturallyTD -: The best piece of hair advice was to trim regularly. When I started trimming properly and regularly, my hair freakin flourished!!!

Sandy Robinson: The best advice I received from the natural hair community, is using the correct oils for my 4C low porosity hair...the products recommended, sucks! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us...I'm constantly researching better ways to take care of my hair, yet your scientific advice is on point!

GodBless: Always love your content. Best piece of advice would be putting on a shower cap after applying the leave in to help it absorb.

Bluebuzz30: Best piece of advice thus far has been to have consistent wash days! It has made a big difference in my moisture and length retention.

Lexi Lomax: Best advice that Ive received: learn YOUR hair and keep it moisturized.......other key advice that has helped me personally: always pre-poo, stick to natural ingredients, deep condition every wash day, have a consistent protein treatment schedule, use a satin cap/pillow case at night....its a mouthful lol but I've been natural 7 years now and its worked!

Jacky Wairegi: I have just received the best advice. To try out the leave in first ☺ THANK YOU! The other is to use film forming humectants because my hair hates glycerin as a leave in.

Ta9 Ta9: the best hair advice I've received is protective styling and deep conditioning to grow out hair. I hit rock bottom with my hair late 2019 and shaved it all off. Before shaving it I used to say "Oh my hair is growing backwards" as a joke to everyone who asked me if I got a hair cut. However, I discovered natural hair youtube and found out about growing hair with protective styling: wigs as well as different style braids and locs using weave. My hair was growing but it was a bit dry for my liking, and that's when I discovered deep and leave in conditioning. My hair has only been thriving in the past year. best hair advice ever!

mary mayfield: Because of my age, one of the best advice I received is to find out that we women's of color NOW finally have ones that care about our hair and Now have Curly Chemists that stand behind there studying or

Esela Segbefia: I stopped using leave ins with glycerin in my high porosity hair. It stayed moisturized much longer. In deep conditioners, glycerin works great!

Sasha Dimetries: best advice I got is 1. Don't trim often, you really don't need too unless your hair is severely damaged and 2. oil hair 30 mins before washing. You will get so much less breakage.

jackie powell: There are so many good tips, so I will just mention the most recent one. Adding Conditioner to my water spray bottle. I love it.

Joceline: Best hair advice was to choose health over length all day any day. Ever since then I’m not worried about fast growth anymore. I was also wondering what your thoughts are on DMDM Hydantoin in hair products

SMarti: Best advice: use watery leave-in conditioners after shampoo but to use a plastic cap and let it really get into my hair before styling or the drying process. Fay in the city gave me that one and I love it.

Ali HC Gardening: The best advice is dont constantly (excessively) comb or handle my hair instead do longer lasting styles,, moisturizer & seal be gentle and finger detangle sometimes if you can, instead of using combs all the time

Juanita Bobo: Faye in the City: Put a plastic cap over your leave-in for a few minutes before styling. It worked so well! SheRea DelSol: Put DC on damp NOT wet hair. I've been afraid to try it but today's the day!

T156 T: Hi. I always initiate my analysis of a brand based on the leave-in. If I like/love it, then I spend more on the other products in the line. Has saved me some . But it's not a completely hard rule. I have gotten some good deep conditioners & wished the brand made a leave-in that was just as effective. I have sometimes left a little bit of the deep conditioner in as a leave-in, if it absorbs well into the strands & not leave a dull cast. I didn't know Vitamin E lengthen the shelf life of oil based products. Info is key! Thanks!

Blair Walker: Best piece of advice was that although products aid in hair health, technique warrants hair growth. Remember clean scalp, proper timely detangling and stretch styles.

Jo: Best piece of advice I’ve received is “Leave your hair alone”. This helps tremendously with length retention every time.

Lyndsey MacPherson: So great to hear about using shampoo as body wash. I actually use a particular brand of affordable shampoo as hand soap all the time. It would a bit harsh as an ongoing body wash, but as hand soap--way better than the leading brands of liquid hand soap, which are watered down.

LoveMyCurls: Sis always speaks the truth! Almost @ 100K!

MonieLove88: Take care of your scalp... Can you do a video on the difference between Castor & black Castor oil & how they benefit the scalp & hair(do they penetrate the hair/scalp)

Na: Hi, my daughter just had a baby girl ( 4 months) and noticed the infamous bald spot on her daughter's head. She brought a satin baby bonnet and is doing research on what to use on her hair. I told her to use coconut oil and black castor oil, is that okay to use on babies? If not what do you suggest?

Amina *****: The best advice I've received that has worked, was to use an ACV rinse after washing my high porosity hair. It closes the cuticles and makes it much more manageable throughout the week with less breakage.

Favour O: A lot of naturals say you should always wash your hair in sections, I never followed that advice. For many years I would have to cut off an inch or two from certain sections each wash day (every two weeks) until I followed that advice.

Maddy 63: To deep condition - I had dry damaged ends which completely lost their curl after lack of haircuts due to covid, like straw!! As soon as tried a deep conditioner for the first time they curled right up again!

DomsDominion: Best advice was from curly chemistry❤❤❤ she educated me about putting my essential oils in a carrier oil to use for my scalp messages and how to determine the best oils to use that best suited my hair porosity and hair density

Todne Woods: "Keep your hands out of your hair". The less manipulation and just playing in my hair, the more it grew.

pink rainbow kennelz: Best piece of hair advice 4 me Don't be fooled by false advertisement on the front of the bottle because whatever it says on the front of the bottle is what you're really not getting just look at the ingredients and you'll really know the facts I couldn't figure out why my hair was kept drying out because I was full for so many years olive oil works better in my hair then mostly any product on shelves

Natasha Daniels: I haven't used shaving cream for like 20 years or more. I started using my moisturizing body wash instead then I switched to my moisturizing conditioner

Jeannine Gorden: Recently I decided to transition to primarily using oils instead of lotion and creams for my body. I am using sweet almond oil cuz I have a large bottle from my DIY hair recipies. I stopped using castor oil because I got scared it would cause increased body hair growth. I know u mentioned essential oils could cause that. Was I right about castor oil or is it ok to use. I am part wolf so I don't need any extra hair below my scalp!!

Fly Away: Doing hot oil treatments twice monthly, using hair mayonnaise once a month, & trim ends when seasons change-4 times/yr.

Carol Newman: Thank you, this I learned on my own, a good beautician is gold. If the hair on the beauticians head looks like hell, RUN!!! A beautician who rushes through your hair, RUN, a beautician who tries to sell you their products constantly, RUN. When you love what you do, we can see it.

Natasha Roshanali: Your videos are always so awesome!!! Thank you for this. How do you feel about ayurvedic hair treatments like fenegreek, henna, amla...etc? Love to get your take on it.

Blackberry- Rose: These are some good tips I’m here for all the tips to save money, time and product. Adding avocado mask once a month has been a good treatment I’ve noticed that my hair is shiny and healthy since adding this mask to my hair care regimen. ❤️the twists very Pretty.

The awesome person Chuney: You told me I could use my conditioner as a leave in & that’s one of the best pieces of advice that I use & I haven’t bought leave in conditioner since. Thank you

LittleNicole94: I always appreciate your knowledge; I would say the best advice would would be rice water as a protein treatment and using coconut oil as a pre-poo.

A. Williams: Best piece of advice: shampoo less. My hair has improved significantly from reducing the frequency of my washes.

Fredonique Arnolds: Best advice: do what is best for YOUR hair and focus more on your hair health rather than length!

Felicia Dunn: Always shampoo my hair and use hair grease to seal in the moisture!

Bees Knees: I found your channel a few weeks ago...best advice...every word out of your anointed lips. I started with doing a PrePoo and using oils and Blue Magic "hair grease"...all game changers that my hair loves.

NaptrulyMe: I always used my moisturizer, conditioner and leave-in conditioner as one because it never made sense to me get so many products that will do the same (with almost or the same ingredients). Still, great info for those who didn't know. I always enjoy watching and listening to you share your knowledge. I agree. Functional ingredients are the best! This is why I chose to go fully ayurvedic on my haircare products (I made sure when I purchased herbs, powders or plant that I buy a preservative too).

Beverly James: I've been using this prickley plant on my hair. It makes my hair soft, it's from from the cactus family. I use It as a leave in conditioner, and I still moisturize and use my oil sealinant.

Armami A.: Best piece of advice? Pre-pooing. It’s a tip I got when the natural hair community was just starting off, maybe in 2012. Over the years, I’ve had periods were i did it and when I didn’t do it... I promise u... pre-poo’d hair holds moisture better and it behaves better.

Natural Born Queen: I always love the knowledge you give. I began using an Ayurveda oil mixture early in my natural hair journey. Within 3yrs my hair is just about at the length it was when I big chopped.

Sharese Nicole: I have definitely used conditioner as shaving cream I thought it was only me ✨

Camille Christophe: The best advice I got that's working... Deep condition weekly Wash and go's for ( tension, itch and headache free ) hair growth and lenght retension Wetting & Detangling hair every 4-5 days (to reduce knotting and tangles ..ie keeping on top of shed hairs) less shed hair less tangles less knots Know your porosity Know your ingredients Love you your hair as is ❤

Aquata: HiiiYou look gorgeous and I enjoy your content so much! Such a blessing to the Natural Hair Community!❤️

Shari-Lee Davis: The shea mositure jbco rinse out conditoner is my current shaving cream lol. Hated it for my hair!

BeaunaturelleFeb11: Using heat on my low porosity hair to open up my the cuticles. Game changer. Oh and also NOT doing cold water rinses!!

Ashly Gonsalves: Best hair tip I've learnt the hard way is not leaving ur hair out n about for extended period of times

Crystal Jackson: What do you think about adding Jamaican black castor to a ready made oil like camille rose, mane choice alikay natural oil growth oils? Does it change that current formula making it less potent or too potent?

ayomide loye: the best hair advice i heard was to massage my scalp at least 5 minutes a day. with an carrier oil and essential oil.

Bella Fresh: Best piece of hair care advice or shall i say my favorite was to get a satin pillow case. I seem to almost never be able to find my bonnet (I have a 3 year old) but I can go to Sleep knowing my hair is still protected to some degree
